Reviews:
Perfect By: Bruce Fraser - 21-Feb-2009 Version: 1.1.4 Quite simply this app is as close to a real book as you are going to get. It looks great - but once you start reading you forget it is an iPhone and get into the book without any distractions. When I first got this, it was promised that there would be updates with new books. They have kept to their word, and the new books have been coming at a regular pace. This is the one app you need. Perfect.
Great App! By: Mom45angels - Jan 31, 2009 Version: 1.1.3 I really enjoy this application. I love to read and usually am carrying around books "just in case I have a few minutes to read". This application puts it all in my phone. The books are classics and even my 9 year old son has now been caught reading them (with no urging from mom....cause apparently reading books on mom's phone is "cool"). I can't wait for future updates...this is DEFINTELY a keeper!
I challenge you to find better! By: KingmonkeyUk - 26-Feb-2009 Version: 1.1.4 I have read several ebooks on the iPhone and none of them, NONE of them have been anywhere as enjoyable or easy to read as this. As well as there being great titles here which has really opened my eyes and mind to some classics the beauty of this app is fantastic!!!! If I didn't know better I would say this was Apple's official eBook App. Does that tell you how good it is!!!! Buy this. The best £1.18 (or how ever much it is) I spent. It's the same price as a newspaper and you'll enjoy one page of this a million times more than even the Saturday Times and it's 47 supplements!!!
Just the app I was looking for! By: Elbaajio - 02-Nov-2008 Version: 1.0 Lots of choice and a great way to carry a whole library without breaking your back! Nice way to bookmark without having to bend pages or use business cards hoping that they don't fall out.I have a few suggestions that may make it even better:1) if you could flip the book and read the back page before you dive right in it would help with choosing what I should read next.2) I know these books have been reviewed to death over the years, but if you could access a few, or even have a post your review/thoughts option (monitored ofcourse) it would only add to the experience, and help students develop their written skills, as well as get ideas from other like-minded people3) I don't know if this is possible, but syncing your bookmarks with iTunes incase you need to re-install the program would be very useful! This app is a must have if you love books! Great job guys
Incredible By: Piper2 - Nov 17, 2008 Version: 1.1 I bought this back when it was 3 bucks... But I still have to say it was worth it! I'm an avid reader. Now I can be reading when I finish a class by just taking an iPod out of my pocket. I don't have to carry around 13 books; not pay 130 bucks, but one! What an incredible moneysaver! I've tried all the ereaders on the iPod, and this is the only one that makes me feel like I'm reading a real book. Thank you so much developers. And thank you for adding 'A Christmas Carol' just recently. Yet another timeless classic!
Destined to become an all time 'classic' app ! By: loopingstar - 04-Nov-2008 Version: 1.0 This must surely be destined to become one of the most downloaded apps to date , it's like having a library in your pocket - everything is so well done and reading is very easy on the eyes . I'm trying to think of something negative to say but honestly can't ! I've not read a book in a long time and havn't read any of the included titles before - this could well be the app that gets me into reading again. Fantastic - just buy this now !
Great platform, excellent performance! By: PinkPapillon - Jan 10, 2009 Version: 1.1.2 This is a great app for readers because the books are good, and more are being added all the time! Some things you might think about reading but never find the time (i.e., Paradise Lost) are in this app and it's great to have instant access to it! It keeps your place as you are reading (as some other book apps don't), making it easy to start and stop at any time! Thanks, developers, you make it easy for book lovers to get their fix on-the-go!
fantastic ap By: Sagir - 01-Feb-2010 Version: 1.3 like it already.. although the small screen on the iPhone can be a bit of a hindrance, the font size is really good for reading... and since it is a free app, i have no particular complaints about it.. the selection of books is very good to start with and i hope that more can be added to the store later.. will be looking forward to that soon...for the time being it is good to pass time while waiting for buses and trains and just sitting at work while there is nothing much to be done..the interface is really good, interactive and reminds me of my bookshelf at home :)i'll say it is a must get app for all book, or rather e-book, lovers !
Worth every cent! By: fizzledes - Feb 7, 2009 Version: 1.1.3 There really isn't much to nitpick with this app. GUI is intuitive, no lag when going through the pages. I particularly like that the app allows you to arrange your books as you would a normal bookshelf; thought it was a nice little touch. The fact that they will continually add books for free is just great. Having a blast reading Treasure Island at the moment. Best of all, it only costs 3 bucks! Highly recommended. Keep up the great work, guys!
I cant even remember the last time I picked up a book! By: EVIL NOCTURNE - Jan 13, 2009 Version: 1.1.2 My sister has been telling me to put down the controller and pick up a book! lol , So she convinced me to at least add this app to my new iPhone and wow is all I have to say. I thought they were gonna be a bunch of short stories with like 25 pages or so . Little did I know that I was gonna get addicted to this app. One of these books has 379 pages . WOW yet it dident even take up that much space. It just seems so real . I actually forgot that I was reading off of my phone. Even the page turning is great. I could careless if it cost me 4.99 ...its totaly worth every dollar. Its a classic library on your phone. Thanks

On the cusp By: Matt Midgette - Nov 22, 2008 Version: 1.1 It would be great if major publishers would take a look at this and give it a chance - it would take just one NYT Bestseller converted to Classic to launch it. Beautiful book reading app and interface. Could give Kindle a run for its money. Not sure of the developers long-term intention. But still a beautiful way to read a book. Count of Monte Cristo guys? Would also be helpful if you had notification of upcoming books on your site.
Great App / Good Selection By: Cotton.Nero - Oct 22, 2009 Version: 1.3 I just installed this app after being intrigued by the glimpses of it we are given in the latest iPhone commercial. I have to say, the user interface is superb! I have tried many ebook type readers, and this one is by far the most attractive... I would like to see this app become THE standard for all ebooks. To do this, I'd suggest sharing with the public a method in which we could assist in adding to the already existing collection of great titles. I'd love to see Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, and I might actually read Shakespeare too, if his works were included!! That is definitely saying something about this app folks!! A+ (01/28/2009).
Whoa! By: Lindabobhat - Feb 21, 2010 Version: 1.3 Gives you the feeling of actually reading a book! P.S. Anyone worrying about Twilight getting on here: for crying out loud, did you happen to notice how old all the books on this are? PPS: Please add And Then There Were None for the next update!I should mention... Have you possibly heard of COPYRIGHTS??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Did you ever think that might be the reason there hasn't been updates?
Two Big Toes Curled Way Up By: DaAppGuruDudeFool - Dec 3, 2008 Version: 1.1 I've always wanted to be able to read books on my iPod Touch but found what was out there rather disappointing, that was until Classics came along! Absolutely awesome and I would have easily paid $4.99 for this incredible application. Attention to detail is excellent and user interface is friendly. Buy this app NOW you'll be glad you did. Some minor upgrades already mentioned would make an already good app great! This ones a winner hands down guys so spend the .99 cents and treat yourself to the Classics!
AWESOME By: Foshizzlemynizzle - Oct 31, 2008 Version: 1.0 I'm not even going to mention being first, this application is that cool! This is something I've really wanted since the app store came out. This will really help during those boring times, and well worth the price. 12 books for 25 cents apiece is a great deal, even more so when you factor in that they are going to release more books in the future. Get this now! And for the creators I beg you for some George Orwell in the 1st patch. "1984" and "Animal Farm" especially. Thank you!
Already Excellent, More Books Would be Awesome By: JackJones - Dec 3, 2008 Version: 1.1 This app looks great. The reading experience is great, the page turning is great. I would only say it lacks more books. I'm going to read all the current books (or at least all that I want to read) soon and then I guess I won't be able to use this wonderful app anymore. I'm not sure what sort of plan there is to add more books (free or paid- I don't care), but I hope there is going to be a future for Classics.
The Future By: WhySoSerious? - Nov 2, 2008 Version: 1.2 While I hate to say it, because I am a fan of paper books, electronic books are probably the future, and this is a great app to set Apple on that path. It is fluid and easy to read, and the whole bookmark thing is great. It also offers some great novels that I can now read on the go, right on my cell phone! This is a great start to a great app, and there is tons of room for improvement, particularly in adding more novels. Obviously, we're limited to what we can have on here, due to copyright stuff, but eventually who knows where something like this could go. Maybe we will start paying .99 cents for a book on our phone, much like the Amazon Kindle. I can't wait to see where this app ends up.
Very easy on the eyes By: thebuttermaker - Dec 5, 2008 Version: 1.1 Ive tried almost all the readers. This one is the nicest looking, and has the illustrations for Flatland, which are essential. To those that want certain books, you've got to realize most of the books on the app store are now in the public domain, which is why they are free (through stanza) or very cheap (when nicely packaged, like hear.) Stop asking for books that are still under copyright on the comments of every ebook reader app! If you want bestsellers for free, in an easy to read fashion, I am sure your local library would love to see you. Anyway, this app is worth the $.99 i paid. I look forward to updates and reading and rereading some old classics.
5 Stars All The Way By: IyaChan - Aug 17, 2009 Version: 1.3 I am a bookworm like many others, so this app is 5 stars from heaven!I love the books that were chosen, the page flips are fantastic, and I ADORE the bookmark! xD I usually read a book and want to save the page- I hate puppy ears by the way(folding the corner of a page)- and I try memorizing the page #. I usually forget it by the time I pick up the book again. Also, can I suggest 'The Wizard of Oz' by L. Frank Baum?Again, five stars and awesome job w/ the app~!-Apple
Beautiful, functional, fantastic value By: Yashin19 - 28-Jan-2009 Version: 1.1.3 The app looks gorgeous, as close to a book as I think anyone is likely to get on a device like this, and the original cover artwork is very classy. It functions exactly as you'd expect from a book, you pick a volume from the shelf, flip through the pages, close it, and when you re-open it, the page has been marked for you. The range of classic titles caters to most tastes and includes a great many books which for me were in the 'I've always meant to read that' category. Perfect for those moments when you have time to kill, but you haven't brought a book. If there's one flaw here, it's that I wish there was a way of downloading new books, I'd gladly pay each time for the privilege. I'm sure the developer would also love to take advantage of a content delivery system, but I guess that's an Apple issue. Fortunately, there have been regular updates to the app which have introduced several new titles, all for no extra charge. Very generous. Comfortably my favourite iPhone app.
