Reviews:
BY FAR the best comic reader on the iTunes App Store By: ServiceGames - Dec 29, 2009 Version: 1.3 I love to read comics. I love the idea of comics on-the-go. And, I've been a big fan of digital distribution since I got my first taste of it years ago. Don't get me wrong, though, I still enjoy collecting books I can actually hold in my hand. All that said, I have tried several comics on the iTunes store. This is the very first one I've come across that has its own built-in store and library. Now, rather than having to slam my iPhone's pages full of comic icons, I can just use one icon to get to all the comics I've bought and/or downloaded from this app. The way the comics are shown panel by panel works perfectly so far. This application is a definite must-buy for all comic fans!
Theatrical convenient comic experience By: Aquanine - Dec 18, 2009 Version: 1.3 Excellent viewer that adds a little something to the experience of reading a comic that helps to off-set the fact that you do not get to hold the pages. Moving dramatically from cell to cell helps those, like myself, who too often jump ahead to see what happens on the next page. Other highlights:-the viewer gives a view of full pages after reading all the bubbles in detail when the art commands it.-convenient way to keep track of series.-terrific way to get introduced to independent publishers like Blue Moon, Arcana, Red 5, and Top Cow (with plenty of free first issues to whet the appetite or ward off the stinkers).-the art is treated well in the transition to the digital and looks spectacular on the iPhone/Touch hi-res screen.
Great way to casually read independent comics By: linzc - 20-Aug-2009 Version: 1.1 Comics does what might have seemed impossible. It makes reading comicbooks on an iPhone not only possible, but fun. The original 'guided reading' method shows you an overview of the whole page, then zooms in frame by frame, optionally even rotating to fit landscape or portrait frames automatically. The range of comics available is not yet very large, but there are some interesting, unusual and quirky titles and this app makes having a casual read a lot of fun.
Amazing App By: gameplyr10 - Nov 10, 2009 Version: 1.2 I love this app. This app's method of displaying panels to read comics is fantastic. I now prefer to read comics on my iPhone versus reading the physical comic books. Considering that I don't have the budget to collect many older titles of interest this app is perfect for me to build a library. I have found several more independent comics in this app which I like but of course the growing supply of Marvel is even better. I highly recommend this app and my customer service experience is great. There is nothing like having dozens of comics ready for reading offline while on long airplane flights!!!

Impressive Application By: AllYourBase64 - Oct 31, 2009 Version: 1.2 I normally don't write reviews like this, but i thought so highly of this app that i felt it was necessary. First, let's just jump right in and talk about the comic reading experience. It's the primary thing you'll be doing with the app, so it's what you should consider first. I've tried many comic apps out and this one is by far the best. Unlike some companies which cut up and butcher a comic, these guys do a much better job. Their reader automatically navigates from panel to panel when you tap right (to go forward) or left (to go back). I'm not how the reader figures out what panel is next, but so far it has done a *perfect* job. The panels are all readable, with crisp text and gorgeous colors. You can also zoom in/out with the standard iPhone pinch gestures of you want to examine something closely. The reader also has a bunch of great options you can use to customize reading. My favorite setting is one that lets you see the full page when you switch to a new page. This is great for seeing the whole page as the artist intended before you actually start reading the content. You can also change how fast it takes to animate to the next panel, as well as tell the iPhone to automatically switch to landscape or portrait depending on what would look best for the current panel. All in all it works great on such a constrained screen like the iPhone. Now, that's the reader, so what is the rest of the app like? To be quite frank, it's practically the app you would expect if Apple had produced this. You're presented with a storefront that is nearly identical to the ones provided by the iTunes store and the Appstore. i.e. you can browse through the full catalog of titles using many different methods (like price, or popularity). You can see previews of the comics and rate the ones you've downloaded. Most comics are $0.99, but a few are $1.99 (too high in my opinion). Buying and downloading is streamlined and efficient. Just the tap of a button and a confirmation button is all you need. So what's the catch? As far as i can tell, there is none. The only drawback i've found so far is that there are not that many titles. However, according to the authors and the product page, there are many dozen ready, but they all must be reviewed by Apple first. I look forward to when that happens. Final thoughts: the app comes with 30 free comics. Even if you don't like them all, you're sure to find enough to make the $0.99 purchase price more than worth it to you. And if you're lucky (like me), you will discover some amazing gems that you can then read the entire series for (Atomic Robo ftw!) 5 Stars comiXology. Great job!
We'll see... By: skellener - Oct 30, 2009 Version: 1.2 Just got this app. Downloaded a free comic and it worked just fine. I do NOT have access to any of the Marvel titles though. Something is wrong with the app. I am in the U.S. Wrote to developer (there doesn't seem to be a forum or support page so I just sent an email to their feedback). Looking forward to getting it working and will gladly award more stars. Got a response right away from the dev team. I deleted and redownloaded the app. All seems well now. raising the star rating!
Great Comic Reader! By: Myklsan - Oct 19, 2009 Version: 1.2 Very nicely done comic reader. I enjoy the transitions you've incorporated ala Ken Burns Effect. This App zooms automatically to tiny word balloons & frames. I can avoid a lot of tedious zooming in and out of panels. I like that I can set it to show me the whole page after (or before) I've read it. Will thought out and executed. Fast refresh and rotation response, too. Easily the most functional graphic reader I've come across. The setting for memory use is nice. I've other apps that could benefit from this memory concept. Fast customer response, too.Someone at their end must really like comics to set up all the frame transitions. Thank you for your fine work. Other comic reader apps seem so last century in comparison.
Love This App By: NBM05 - Oct 19, 2009 Version: 1.2 I love this app. I downloaded this about a week ago and have over fifty comics on my phone now. The app has a lot of great series -- many more than I expected. There are a few great high profile titles and a lot of really good independent work. Most series have a free first issue and then remaining issues are only $.99 each. The app has over sixty free titles to try without buying anything. I got this app before they made it free and I don't regret buying it at all. For free everyone should pick it up. I fully intend to keep buying titles through this app. The reader is great, the prices are fantastic, many of the series are really good, and I love having all the comics I buy in one place. The app makes it really easy to organize and find the comics you purchase, and just as easy to buy new issues when they get released. I really hope this app does well and continues to expand.
Comics book store in your pocket : ) By: Smofosho - 8-Jan-2010 Version: 1.3 Most variety of comics in the App store! Its a great app but there are a few little things that still need fixing. In landscape mode it still sometimes takes you out of the app when picking a comic to read, and also while reading comics the screen will go black and take you out of the app (seldom, but still annoying) those are the only two problems i have encountered with the new version. And just a suggestion, it would be nice to start on the "My Comics" page when starting the app. And mabey a shelf view of the comics as well as the landscape, as the landscape mode is very nice. thanx for the great app, keep it up!!

BY FAR the best comic reader on the iTunes App Store By: ServiceGames - Oct 5, 2009 Version: 1.2 I love to read comics. I love the idea of comics on-the-go. in my top 3 favorite apps! By: digitalbc - Sep 3, 2009 Version: 1.1 The way this app allows you to view comics is leaps and bounds cooler and easier then any other comic app. They also drop TONS of awesome comics on you for FREE!! The Atomic Robo series alone makes this app worth it! If you are thinking about getting this app, stop thinking and get it, the fact that you are here means you will enjoy this way more then you expected. I also enjoy this app more then iVerse's comic app, which also has Atomic Robo. I feel like it flows better and the frames fit better.
Very very well-done app By: TnIan - Aug 27, 2009 Version: 1.1 The interface is outstanding. A buck for thirty comics makes this a no-brainer purchase (assuming you like comics). There are a bunch of great titles I never heard of and probably never would have heard of otherwise. And it's a good use of the in-app purchase model - this is how a lot of stuff is going to work in the future. A note to publishers, though; I think you're going to do a lot better with the .99 price point. A $1.99 comic that I don't buy is $0.00 in revenue (and I don't get to read the comic, so we both lose).
Just gets it right. By: comixfann - Sep 25, 2009 Version: 1.2 Updated for 1.2 - it just gets better!! This app just gets comic books on the iPhone right. The quick rundown: • In-app purchase - no more dozens of apps for dozens of comics • 50+ comics included in $0.99 price?! • Incredible reading experience - it's like the iPhone is your eye on the page, ignoring the panels to the sides • Full page viewing options - so you can see what the creators intended! • Great start on the store selection
The best things in life.... By: MiamiMax - Jan 15, 2010 Version: 1.3 Are not free. This app is the best! It has the best variety bar none! I believe all media distributed via the net should be free. I know that everyone has bills but so do I and that's what sponsors and advertisers are for. You think that there would be some free Marvel comics here. Some of the Disney coin to entertain the masses. I have done my part to sponsor the giants of Mickey and Spidey for over 30 years and now what? I guess the best things in life are not free - but they should be! Kiss innocence (comics) goodbye, it has a pricetag and the salad days are gone.
Very innovative! By: SVT - Aug 20, 2009 Version: 1.1 I have always loved comic books as a child and have not picked one up In over 12 years. This digital comic book app is exactly what I needed to get back into them. I would love to see marvel as a vendor so that I can download many of my old favorites but these underground series featured in this app are actually pretty good. 5 stars. This app is very easy to use and brings a whole new experience to comic book reading.

This App is a Comic-Book-Geek/Tech-Nerd's Wet Dream!! By: Bango_Skank - Aug 12, 2009 Version: 1 Finally someone got comic books on the iPhone RIGHT!! As soon as I saw what the iPhone was capable of I dreamed of having a comic book library on it. I already use my phone for all my other entertainment needs - music, movies, TV shows, novels, games, internet - the only thing missing was comic books. So, as each new solution for reading comics came out I tried it and was dissapointed over and over by apps that came close but didn't quite deliver. Some let me load any .cbr but I was constantly resizing the page so I could read each panel and I had to spend hours converting and loading the books I wanted to read. Other apps had a good panel-by-panel display but I had to purchase a new app and deal with a new icon for every book I wanted to read, plus I really missed getting a sense of what the whole page looked like. Comics solves all these problems by letting you browse and purchase new books from within the app and then displays them perfectly. Each time you turn the page you get to see the whole page before going into a panel-by-panel view and it will even rotate the image automatically so you are getting the most possible art on the screen. Its almost as if you are watching a comic but the action all happens at your pace. And all of these setting are customizable in the preferences. The app has never lagged and the resolution of the art is perfect. The selection of books for sale as well as free content is pretty decent and hopefully if we support them they will continue to add more. This app is well worth the money and the comics for sale are all reasonably priced. If you are a comic book fan this purchase is a no-brainer.
Excellent By: Jammyn - Aug 11, 2009 Version: 1.1 At first I thought, "Great, another comic book reader app." Not that there is a glut of them out there, but I wasn't sure what could be added. Boy was I wrong. I think Comics has the best interface for reading comics, hands down. Rather than presenting you with the page for you to zoom and move around the page, Comics guides you through the page panel by panel. You can choose to see other parts of the page or "letterbox" it so that other portions of the page are obscured. Other settings allow you to customize your experience, but I've become addicted to this way of viewing comics on my iPhone in the the short time I've been using it. Comics also provides an easy way to get print versions of what you are reading if you like prefer. The only issue I see is that there isn't a file format that it reads... the comics need to essentially be coded to be viewed in the reader. With an ever growing library, this will be less of an issue, and perhaps there will be a way to make a format that will allow for this in the future.
