Reviews:
i like it! By: Stercesderised - Jul 2, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 I'm not sure why there's so much negativity about this app. I'm really surprised on many levels. If you like the Marvel app, you'll like this app. And, to boot...DC's app states at the very beginning when you setup your account that the comics are viewable on other devices and via the web reader on your desk/laptop (which is better than Marvel's approach). Yes, the comics are 1.99, but I really don't have an issue with this. The book medium is continously trending toward the electronic medium. Get over it, or go buy the copies in the store..it isn't rocket science here, there are other options for you if you HAVE to hold the physcial copy in your hand. The music industry encountered the same arguments about users feeling comfortable with physical CDs vs. downloadable data files, and look where it is today. Personally, I like the ease of carrying around my entire collection on my ipad, I think the colors are so much more vibrant than on paper, and I like going cell by cell when reading the story so my eyes do not wander, increasing the anticipation. For those who have not been into comics for awhile because of cost, or physical space, or even to avoid having to run out to the store, but are interested in checking out some comics...this app is great (same as Marvels). I have a decent collection going already, and 1.99 is more than fair to me. Hell, I want these guys to make money to enhance their app and provide better/more creative/diverse products. Also, these comic companies give out free comics on a continous basis. You just have to show up and click the free button while it's available (makes you want to return). The app is stable, works as designed, and the service is great (and as stated, better than Marvel's current model as you can access your collection via PC/laptop/other mobile devices...your collection goes with you!).Thanks DC for putting this out! I'm glad I can access your line of comics on my ipad now!
Great app but needs work on pricing By: TVTechGeek - Jul 1, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 The app is wonderful on both iPhone and iPad and I love how they have started a digital comic standard...hint hint....using the same reader as another comic company. Standards make the world of a MUCH better place. I'm still very torn on the pricing though. Why should I buy a digital comic for $1.99 when I can go out and buy the same comic in physcial form for a dollar or two more? I'm putting my money on the paper and not the digital. How will Wizard be able to determine the value on digital comics?
The way it should be done By: mknopp - Jul 1, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 The reader is the same great reader as another, ahem..., comic company. That isn't bad at all as the reader is superb. However, unlike the other unnamed company DC did it right. Sure, they still have a lot of comics selling at $1.99, which I feel is too much for a digital version. However, they also have several $0.99 comics mixed in, which I have bought, as that is the price point which I think they are worth buying, others may differ. That is the beauty of having different price points. They can find out what people are willing to pay.
Sense of entitlement By: Rnaoncfixd - Jun 27, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 I dont know where all this sense of entitlement came from, but anyone wanting these comics to cost 99 cents, clearly doesn't know how much comics actually cost nowadays. A new Marvel/DC comic costs around $3.50. Not only that, but you have to deal with the physical space it takes up. Now you have to buy boards, plastic, and a long box. My room is so full of long boxes, that it's to the point that I am using them as furniture. $1.99 is really not so bad especially considering that DC gives a fair chunk of profit to the artist and writer. These aren't like itunes songs, people! A lot of effort goes into the sequencing of panels to give the maximum flow of the story. You're not buying into the exact same experience as print media. A song on iTunes sounds exactly as a song on the radio, but a comic reads completely different with its panel pacing on the iPad and other related devices. This app is great because I finally get to read DC comics (mostly Vertigo) on my iPad! I've read Marvel's, and I'm really glad they look the same, and kept everything uniform between all comics; it makes things easier to collect.
The wait is over By: raw_dk - 27-Jun-2010 Version: 1.0.1 I've waited what seems like a life time for DC to enter the digital comics arena and boy was the wait worth it! This app is fantastic, yes it is basically the same as the Marvel app, BUT its all about the content people, the rich, classic and engaging tales of the DC Universe. For those who have Operating System issues I'm sure an update will sort that out and I hope you re-rate when they do. There's little else to say other than "I just finished reading Batman HUSH on my iPhone"… LEGALLY!! How sweet is that, only now I will consider an iPad.Great job DC & ComiXology!
DC App has made me a Planetary fan!! By: wuchmee - Jul 12, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 Had heard of Planetary but never read it. Bought the first two issues through the app, and now I'm hooked to the extent that I'm going to buy the trades or the Absolute editions. Fantastic series; Warren Ellis (writer) and John Cassaday (artist) really created something special here. Wholeheartedly recommended.Attention DC: Start stocking the shelves more plentifully. Choice is good. LCSs may not like this, but it would be awesome to have Brightest Day released on a delayed basis for this app.
Great app!! By: dyastrab - Jul 8, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 DC Comics the same way as the Marvel app. The reader is excellent on the iPad. The store is perfectly intergrated. The page browsing is very intuitive. The only issue right now (7/8/10) is the lack of selection. The main DC titles available are Green Lantern Rebirth, Batman Superman issues 1-13 and some Wonder Woman, Justice League, and GL titles. There are also Wildstorm, other etc titles. DC says that they will expand the selection by about 100 books per month. Hopefully we'll get some more current titles.
Great app By: ChopSueySide - Jul 5, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 By the sound of some of the reviews, I really don't think alot of you realize how much an actual comic costs these days. With 3.99 being the average price ,the 1.99 price point isn't as hard on the pocket as a store bought comic. It's a great deal.As for selection, give it TIME. Rome wasn't built in a day. By the end of a full year this app will have a ton of great books on it. But, I really don't think we will see current comics on it for quite sometime. A great app bubbling with potential. Low star reviewers need to get a grasp of what the comic market is actually like. 6 issues of Planetary on here is cheaper than the trade paperback in a comic shop. Sorry, but that smells like a boatload of awesome to me!!!! The future is here!!!!!!
Works now! By: SkepticalWV - Jun 24, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 6/22: Great idea, I was looking forward to this, but as a few other people mention above, it keeps crashing on my Iphone 3G (with ios4), splash looks great then stops. Iphone view is also small/hard to read, if it worked and had a good selection might get me to buy Ipad! UPDATED 6/23-24 -- NOW SEEMS TO WORK FINE! CHANGED TO 4* THANKS DC! ONLY SUGGESTION IS NOW TO HAVE A CLEARER 'back to library' button and would like to see SUBSCRIPTIONS AND ALL THE LATEST ISSUES AVAILABLE EVERY WEEK, AND MUST BE LESS THAN NEWSSTAND PRICE!
Great App By: BatmanFD - Jun 24, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 I was excited that DC finally came out with an app, and after using it, I like it a lot. The interface is very easy to navigate, and when reading a comic book, the guided reading option is great. I was worried that the iPhone screen would be too small for this to work well, but it's not, and I'm sure the experience is even better on an iPad. I have experienced none of the crashing problems other reviewers have mentioned running this app on a 3GS with iOS 4.My one problem with the app is the selection of books DC has available for purchase. It is all older stuff that I already own in hard copy, and I don't want to pay for it again in e-form. DC needs to get this weeks stuff up each Wednesday as it's hitting the stores, or at least within a week or two of the paper version coming out. I'm an older fan who's been reading comics for 40 years, and I don't really care about collecting anymore, I just enjoy the stories. If I could buy digital versions, it would save me the trouble of going to the store and storing them afterwards. Once the new stuff comes out concurrently with the paper versions, that's all I'll buy. I'm giving it 4 stars for now, but will change it to 5 when that happens. This app is free, and it has a bunch of free issues In it, so download it and check it out. You've got nothing to lose.

Very nice! By: Cadarnloz - 23-Jun-2010 Version: 1.0 Good app. Very pleased with this, well done DC. Would be nice to see more comics available soon!I'd like to offer some suggestions for future updates. How about a subscription option? More options to organise your collection would also be nice - as would a search engine in the store.Another point, and one I fear will fall on deaf ears whilst there's (extra) money to be made, is that I already own many of the comics available and am unwilling to part with money TWICE for the same material, albeit in a different, and at times more convenient, format. It would be a nice touch if future paper comics came with an 'online code' or similar, either offering a heavily discounted or free electronic copy. Please do consider we loyal fans and the families of starving moths in our empty wallets!
The pricing is flawed By: Hellfishy - 26-Jun-2010 Version: 1.0.1 At least Make us feel like there are some good deals to be had. $1.99 per comic just seems too steep. Give us a discount if we purchase a series or subscription based. I buy comics at comixology all the time but I usually pay $1 per comic. If readers don't buy into your pricing they will just end up pirating the same material so cut us a break! You know and we know the iPad may end up saving the comic industry so don't shoot yourselves in the foot with your pricing.
Awesome But Lacks Selection By: yensid98 - Jul 8, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 The interface is beautiful, easy to use and flawless. Love how you can just double tap to see one frame at a time. Suddenly comics have become extremely cinematic! Especially on the iPad. Comics on the iPad are a perfect match! I also appreciate how you can rate each comic after you're through. Nice touch!I think the price point could be a bit lower per comic ($0.99 sounds about right to me) though. Also the selection, is just barely decent but doesn't offer much in the was of current releases. There is a preview for Wonder Woman #600 but the physical copy has been out for over a week already and still no digital version. This should offer day and date release with the physical copies. Until that's the case, my buying will be severely limited.
Very Good App By: BRMey - Jul 2, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 Comic Books on the iPad (along with Magazines) are absolutely fantastic - makes the iPad (and the iPhone 4 with the amazing screen) that much more special and useful. I don't think the price per comic is too much at all. I only wish they had a bigger catalog but since it's a new app this will grow over time so fun lies ahead. If you're into comic books and have an iPad then get this, an iPhone 4 with its new screen is even nice. Even if you're not a comic book fan, download the app, download a free comic and see if you like it. Also as a side note the Comics themselves don't take up as much space as you may think. I think they do a good job of managing the size of each comic book issue.

Awesome! By: MobiWan - Jul 2, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 Now they just need to get LOTS more comics available for purchase. Love the app.
Amazing!!! By: Pattz-io - Jul 2, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 Wow, I love this app! Best apps ever, the comic style is amazing. I recommend this if you love reading comics. This app is really breath-taking. 5 stars!!!
Finally By: Wrkn4life - Jul 1, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 So happy for this app I know it will only get better
Great 4.0 App! About time! By: DoubleDose - Jul 1, 2010 Version: 1.0.1 The digital comics on here look stunning on the retina display. Love the way they move through pages and the store structure. Already spent more in here since I got my iPhone 4 than on iTunes.
