The BeamItDown Book Collection uses a very different approach to reading that is absolutely ideal for the screen of the iPhone and iPod Touch. Other reader applications display the text of the book you are reading in individual pages. The number of words that can be displayed on the screen at one time is determined by the size of the font used. This forces you to choose between reading with a very small font size or using a large font and changing pages every few seconds. The problem is that reading with a very small font induces eye strain, while frequent paging disrupts concentration.
The BeamItDown iFlow Reader solves this problem by using an entirely new approach to reading. Instead of paging, the BeamItDown iFlow Reader scrolls text much like a teleprompter. Large, easy to read text scrolls by smoothly as you read. The precise scrolling speed is controlled by subtly tilting the device, which quickly becomes very intuitive and natural. You can personalize your reading experience by selecting the paper color, text color, text size, and the font that you prefer to create a truly enjoyable reading experience.
- "iFlow Reader" is a trademark of BeamItDown Software.

Amazing value - my favorite app!!  rating of Great Books Mega Collection
By: coffeebean345654 - Jun 12, 2009
Version: 2.1.5
When I bought this app it had only 50 books and I'm pretty sure I paid about $9.99. I loved it at that price; with updates I've picked up another 100 titles - thank you. I would like to see a progress bar. Right now the only option is to check the number of chapters in the book relative to what chapter I'm on. I have a lot of apps on my phone, but the simple wonder of having a small library in my pocket outshines all the rest.

Best App I've seen so far  rating of Great Books Mega Collection

This is absolutely awesome. I am a big big reader, and nothing makes me happier than laying in bed at night, holding my iPhone instead of a big heavy book with a too bright booklight. All the books I've wanted to ever read are on here, and I'm literally telling EVERYONE I know about this app whether they have an iPhone or not. Crazy thing is they keep adding more books ALL the time. I bought this when it had only 50 books and because of the nearly biweekly updates i have well over 200 books. Seriously, if you love to read, stop reading my review and buy it. you wont be sorry.

Great app! Can you add "The Diary of Anne Frank" please?  rating of Great Books Mega Collection
By: miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii - May 27, 2009

Thanks so much for making this wonderful reading app! I just bought it and I have been looking through all of the wonderful books you have on it, and it is just amazing! It makes reading fun and easy! If I may suggest a title to add though, please, please, please add "The Diary of Anne Frank". I love this book SO much, it's so powerful and inspiring. And I would so very, very much absolutely love to read it on here! So, if you are able to, PLEASE add this amazing book! =). Thanks again for making this app!

More Options Please  rating of Great Books Mega Collection

I love the selection of books and the auto-scroll feature. Great that you are adding more books all the time, too. One complaint...I would like to see the option of having the title list shown alphabetically by title instead of just alphabetically by author. I don't always remember the author right off hand and scrolling through 100+ book titles can be annoying. Otherwise, I love it! Great bargain, too!

Wow  rating of Great Books Mega Collection

I am amazed at the number of updates! When I bought this it only had 100 books. Now it has 130! The selection is wonderful and the interface is great. Very easy to use and very practical. I dont always have time to sit and read at home. But now if I am out somewhere and I have just a few minutes to kill, I pick up on a book that I left off on. I love it! I must say though, I am dissapointed that I bought it when it was $10! Anyone thinking about this app, GET IT!

Great app!  rating of Great Books Mega Collection
By: twistupgirl - Nov 11, 2009
Version: 2.3
This app is fantastic. I have been interested in reading the classics that I never was assigned to read in school lately and this app has almost every one that I am interested in. It is so convenient too. For example, I was in the hardware store with my husband a few days ago and he was taking a long time to get what he needed. I was able to pull out my phone and read Pride and Prejudice while waiting for him. The font size, type, and page colors can be adjusted to your liking and the scrolling is fantastic! I paid $4.99 for it and it has been well worth the price. As many books as you get, you can't beat it. And new books are constantly being added by the developer.

Brilliant app  rating of Great Books Mega Collection

I really didn't expect to like this, but I tried one of the free stories and enjoyed it so much I bought the library! Makes reading on the iPhone a pleasure and (I hope I don't sound stupid here) maybe even moreso than reading a bound book. I miss the illustrations from apps like Classics, but I really enjoy this and the price for what you get can't be beat. I'm rapidly making up for all the great books I neglected to read when I was in school. Get it now!

MUST HAVE APP  rating of Great Books Mega Collection
By: Runz W. Scissorz - Aug 13, 2009
Version: 2.2.1
This is a must have app for any iphone owner. What do you think ancient scribes from eons past would think of the opportunity to carry 150 classic works of literature around in your pocket for only $3? Its almost a crime to not have this app. The tilt scrolling features are awesome for 1 hand reading (subway, long line, etc). The books provided are excellent, I have read many, but am not even sure if I will ever get to them all. This is certainly one of my most prized apps for my phone.

I bought this back in April 2009 when it was $9.99 for 100 books, this is a steal for $1.99. I have read so many books; well worth the $$$.
I really like the ability to dial down your font, size, colors (including background), the auto-scroll, the night mode to read in the dark, etc. You can totally personalize it, have bookmarks in multiple books, and your wrists won't tire from holding a giant book. I thought I was a purist and would always prefer paper until I tried this app.
I do have the Classics book collection, but it really pales in comparison to this. Try a freebie from BeamItDown just to see the functionality.

This is a wonderful application. I ride the train from Philadelphia to New York weekly and carrying an extensive book collection on my phone instead of in my bag is a life-saver. The best part of the app is the iFlow reader. Once you get used to it, you can immerse yourself in a book and literally forget that you are on a train or reading or that a crowded noisy world surrounds you (yes, my ipod is running simultaneously). To use iFlow you just tilt and the speed of the words flowing down the page changes to suit your reading speed. No page turning necessary. It is nearly seamless and much better in my opionion than having to turn pages. I was on the subway to a Phillies game and never noticed we had arrived.
The application is not perfect; sorting could be better; downloading updates would be better than re-downloading the entire database. Yet, it is marvelous at what it does and that simply is to let you the reader immerse yourself in your book and become one with it!

Greatest app I have ever bought, even if it is the most expensive  rating of Great Books Mega Collection
By: TxBiolProf - Apr 15, 2009
Version: 2.1
I thought this app was wonderful when I bought it, when it was 50 books for $10, and then I got a free upgrade to 100 plus books at no additional cost!! Now I can go back and erase some of my other apps that contain the same books, so I have room for more stuff!! And I can hardly wait to see what else might be added to this app -- do we get 200 books eventually? Can we have everything in all the other BeamItDown apps, all-in-one? It really doesn't matter since I think I've bought them all, but what a concept -- I carry my whole library in my pocket, and can read several books whenever I want. I am giddy with excitement!! I strongly recommend this to readers everywhere.

Good books indeed!  rating of Great Books Mega Collection
By: mckyfan10 - Aug 2, 2009
Version: 2.1.8
I was somewhat sceptical of this app at first, but have fallen in love. I like to read in bed to wind down and this saves me both having to hold a heavy book and trying to deal with a book light. Also love the auto scroll, very handy if you're a fast reader like I am. Great selection of classics, just wish Jane of Lantern Hill was in with the Lucy Maude Montgmery section. Well worth the few minutes it takes to download. A+

much easier to read than classics  rating of Great Books Mega Collection
By: FredJ29 - May 20, 2009
Version: 2.1.4
ok so lets face it: it's not as pretty as classics but it's so much more functional. Where as a lot of book apps make you flip page by page on a small iphone screen on a fixed font (very unnatural and annoying ala classics app) this app actually allows you to just scroll on down and keep reading and adjust screen colors and fonts. Not to mention you get 100+ great titles, unlike the classics app where you only get maybe 15. So it really is true: dont judge a book by its cover b/c this is a superior app to classics and the rest. It should be the number one book app in the store.

Love it  rating of Great Books Mega Collection

I purchased all three classic book anthologies for iPhone. This is the only one still on my phone. Yes, the interface is not as streamlined as on the others but the book selection is incredible- especially for $5. I give this app five stars, because it deserves it, but because I'm greedy I also hope the developer adds all of the Louisa May Alcott books. Also, the ability to turn pages, instead of scrolling down, would be nice.

A must have for anyone that wants to read  rating of Great Books Mega Collection
By: Joe in SLO - Aug 5, 2009
Version: 2.1.8
For the price, I was willing to take the risk on this App. I was 280 pages into Dracula (400p) and had languished for a month. I bought the App, and finished the book in a day and a half.
There are tons of settings to customize the layout, including a night-setting, so I don't awake my wife. And, it is amazingly battery friendly. I have read three books in four days (counting the Count), and started a fourth.
Only 146 to go. Buy it and be pleased.

This is by far my favorite app of all! The book selection is great! The scrolling takes some getting used to, but once you get it down, it makes reading easy. You also need to find the right font, size, and background color to keep it easy on the eyes. However, all this is customizable with this app!Other features are also great, like how it keeps your place even if you switch books. You can also jump by chapter.I've spent hours reading and look forward to many more. Well worth the price!*Update: The app just updated from 50 books to 100+! I was happy before, now I'm thrilled! Kudos on the great customer satisfaction. I will definitely be buying more apps from beamitdown.

Oh YES!  rating of Great Books Mega Collection
By: dieflying - Aug 2, 2009

i was quite nearly about to soil myself with excitement over this collection. SO many good books, its quite literally a trough of stories and wisdom at your fingertips. i love the flow feature and the ability to change fonts and colors to fit your reading needs. places in each book are remembered as well as settings for each. takes some time to download, but so worth the wait. also takes a little time to open, but that is to be expected with 150+ books! definitely a steal at one dollar! i cant rave about this one enough.

Brilliant use of Apple's iPod touch technology!  rating of Great Books Mega Collection
By: JimmyMacG - Jan 26, 2009
Version: 1.0
BeamItDown is a brilliant use of Apple's iPod touch/iPhone technology! It is very intuitive and easy to learn and could turn millions of younger users into readers again! As its Help video shows, all you have to do is slightly tilt your iPod touch to adjust the scrolling speed as you read, or give it a tap to stop scrolling -- very simple and not possible with other readers.
I also like the choice of classics in "Fifty Great Books for Ten Bucks." There are a lot of books that I always wanted to read but never found the time nor the ability to carry the books around with me. Now I have both, a minute here and a minute there and I always carry my iPod touch!
One of the reasons I bought "50 Books," however (I hate the full title, by the way), was to read "The Arabian Nights," which is shown on BeamItDown's sample screenshots. I was a bit careless in that it isn't listed in the included titles -- "Anonymous" should have been the second title listed. However, it (well, many stories from it, anyway -- I once owned a multi-volume edition) is part of BeamItDown's "Fairy Tales - The World Collection" app. Which I also bought.
BeamItDown should make this a standalone app and sell the books individually or in groups to add to it. I can also see such an app replacing teleprompters for speeches and in the media! It would even be great for actors learning their lines. Like I said, a brilliant little app!
