“What are boys really thinking about girls and love and sex?” “Why are my parents so angry and moody?” “How can people hate other people enough to kill them?” These are just some of the gigantic questions haunting 12-year-old, Lanie Spurdle. Of course, she's equally troubled by the smaller questions like: "Why do I have to wear a bra?" and "Does Clayton Murray like me as much as I like him?" But as she begins to write in her journal and as she discovers and secretly reads her father's World War II journal, the world comes into sharper focus for Lanie. Journals by Louise Palanker By: Juggling Joanne - Aug 30, 2009 Version: 1.5 The book deeply touched me. I have thought about our men and women in uniform often but this gave me an "inside" to the feelings of the family since I don't have any relatives that have chosen this honorable profession. Having said that, the best part of the book for me was how it inspired me to get back to journaling. I kept a diary from the age of ten to thirty but having children kept me from the hobby I loved. Now at 50 I'm back at it thanks to Louise Palanker.
Wonderful! By: Toodly - Aug 29, 2009 Version: 1.5 This book is sweet and funny and meaningful. I love the iphone app. The new version fixes a few missing lines, so thank you. This is the first book I have read all the way through on an iphone. It was so smooth. I actually read the entire thing in the dark without disturbing my boyfriend! I also stayed up way too late because this book is just too tough to put down. I will be making sure that everyone I know reads this. Write another one!
Wow! By: matsumotojunlove - Aug 15, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I was suprised with how great this book was. Originally I was just looking for something to read when I had free time but I couldn't put it down!! What I loved most about it was the fact that it was short but the impact it had on you afterwards was indescribable. If your thinking of downloading this you definately should! Pretty much anyone can relate to the thoughts brought to light by this short book and more over it's free!! It's really a must read!
AMAZING:) By: Missaeropostale87 - Aug 13, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 This is sich a great story by the way things were going I thought one thing was going to happen but then it surprises you and takes a turn you would never expect I highly reccomend this book it made me laugh and cry I do wish it was a little bit longer or had a sequel or something because I would like to know more about lanies and her mothers relationship also the relationship between her and clayton
Wow! This was so amazing! By: Jillybean081596 - Aug 12, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I love this book! It was so cool! I am going to be 13 in 3 days. I learned a lot from it and I understand some things in life a little better too. I think every teen and pre-teen should read this. It teaches a lot of things that everyone should know. Also I burst out laughing a few times because it was so funny! I am still laughing this minute! :) Some parts were kind of sad though. But it was still a great story and it always will be! I do wish it was a little longer so we could see if she and Clayton every got together. That would be great! Make sure you tell your friends about this, everyone should read it. :)
Can't Put That Book Down! By: Peace.Love.Truth - Aug 3, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Journals was one out of many amazing books I have read. Lanie is an average every day 7th grader trying to get through her 12 year old life. It is amazing how she connects with her father and how the war journal helped them connect. I am 13 and it seems that this kind of thing is what goes on in an average teenage girls life boys, friends, school, and family. This should be a book every teenage girl should read. I give it 5 stars and 2 thumbs up!
Wonderful, just wonderful. By: Very Impressed! - Jun 30, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I was planning on downloading this app to read on a plane ride the next day, but I was so interested that I read the entire thing the night before. As a thirteen year old girl with a soldier for a dad, I related to the the main character on the first page. The app was easy to use, and aside from a handful of grammatical errors, the author did a spectacular job. I truely hope that more are to come! (a sequel would be increadible. I just want more of this story!)
Amazing By: vane_4real - Jun 15, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 This book was just great it helped me learn alot I find that stories like this one inspire me to be a better person I learned about the war and how I really am lucky to be able to have what I have and that I should be glad that I have a mom that understands me and how life now in days life is much better than I in the past. Thank you for putting this app up I enjoyed it alot and I hope that others read this it is a very touching story full if insite and wonder. I just can't stop write about it any ways I must this is a must read
This.is.SO.Amazing.period. By: Its_one_in_the_morning!! =] - May 18, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 This is by far one of the greatest, most touching piece of writing i have read in a long time...EXTREmely happy i have this app, except for the fact that i did not want it to end! I sincerely recommend this to anybody and everybody, honestly, it is such a wonderful story. :) it made me smile, laugh, and even force back a tear or two!! I LOVE IT thank you so much for having this app in the store, and for FREE. And kudos for keeping me up reading this (in one sitting). Thanks again!!!!!! :):):):):):):))))))))) ^_^

Great story By: Madameblue - May 17, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I downloaded this book with my 8th grade daughter in mind, and ended up reading it myself. I had to wipe tears from my eyes several times as Lanie's experiences and attitudes mirrored mine at that age. I'm 41 now. It just shows that some things are universal, no matter when you were/are 12-13.
The criticisms I have concern a number of typos: mostly misplaced punctuation, and one or two misspellings. Also, at the end, the page containing Lanie's confession is missing. If you would correct the book to include the missing part, I would happily give this book 5 stars.
Edited to add: Thank you for adding the missing page at the end! :D

I liked it! By: Vvgfsjibv - 25-Aug-2009 Version: 1.0.1 I really loved it... mainly the part about her father, actually. He might have been my favourite character. It was a good read and a good story... however, being almost thirteen... I couldn't relate myself to the main character. She seemed younger than her actual age to me, and those weren't really what I've worried about in the past. Overall it was a great story to me, however... I can't connect to the main character.
Loved It!!!! By: sillygirl99 - Sep 15, 2009 Version: 1.5 I'm a big reader & when I found this app I downloaded it. It's perfect for reading on the go when you catch yourself in a waiting room, long check-out line or anywhere else bored out of your mind. This app solves the issue of having to read 2 mth old fashion mags!
I loved reading it! Thus author is great.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was after reading the entire journal I kept the app to read again maybe.
When I tried to re-open the book app it would start loading & then promptly close. I never could open the app again. Guess I should be happy that didn't happen when I was in the MIDDLE of reading it.
Good Book By: Arnyek - 26-Sep-2009 Version: 1.5 The story wasn't at all what I'd expected, and not the type of story I usually read, but I still quite enjoyed it. I initially thought there'd be more war journal and less teenage girl journal. Instead it was the other way around. You'd think that once I caught on I'd move on, but the story was engaging enough to keep me interested right to the end (which was definately worth sticking around for). Story aside, I really liked the presentation of the app. The chapters were short, making it easy to pick up and read for a five or ten minutes without feeling like you're left hanging. I wish more books were like that. Thanks for the read.

Heartwarming Story By: Goldalocks - 29-Aug-2009 Version: 1.0.1 What an excellent book! Well worth your time to read it. It was a clear, insightful look into the thoughts of a young girl struggling with all the questions of an early teen. Very well done!
