iPhone App as good as Kindle

I bought a Kindle because I was getting headaches reading small type (the Kindle font can be enlarged). Reading a Kindle book with this app is equal to the Kindle. You can enlarge the font but it doesn't have to be as large as the Kindle because the screen is back-lighted. This is also an advantage if you want to read in dim light. Don't know if the illustrations would be in color, but that would be awesome!

A great app. I own a Kindle an use both. One suggestion: Can you add a feature to be able to reverse the page turn/advance so that it will advance by touching the left side?This would enable easier advancing of the page with the left hand. I hold it in the left hand and have to "reach" my thumb across to turn the page. It can be difficult for someone who has limited (or no) use of the right hand. Thank you.

I was very skeptical about reading a book on my iPhone, but I took this for a spin and ended up loving it! I love that I can just read anytime I find myself with two minutes of free time. Elevators, lunch lines, you name it. I thought I would want the horizontal reading, but once I got used to the screen, I actually think upright is more convenient on the long run due to the single hand operation. Not that I wouldn't wanna have the option, so I hope they throw in horizontal reading in the next upgrade.

I am very excited about this advance in ebook tech. The combination of the Kindle and iPhone with synchronization is a big step forward in reading. What is so, so weird is the vitriol the Kindle and this iPhone app are raising. This is clearly an unwelcome advance by many -- even those who are clearly tech savvy. (They're interacting in a online debate.) Oh well, I love conventional books and ebooks. Bottom line -- I love reading. And I think this app (and the Kindle) is great.

I've used (and loved) the Kindle app since it came out. I was thinking of switching over to the B&N's app because the Nook looked cool and I thought it would be better to invest my money with that store, but I'm glad I started with free books with B&N's eReader, because it is buggy as all get out for me. I've got duplicate books. And books missing. Very frustrating. Makes me realize that there were things I was definitely taken for granted with the Kindle. Go, Kindle!

I don't own a kindle, and I'm very cheap, but I love to read. I downloaded this when I was bored on the ferry one day and though I'd sample Dan Brown's new book. At first I thought I could never get used to the screen, but then I discovered that you can view the book as white on black rather than black on white. This makes all the difference, and I can read for long periods of time this way. Very excelent, allows me to sample/purchase books instantly that I can never find in bookstores but don't want to buy online, and for cheaper! Wonderful, wonderful contraption, this phone of mine. : )

5/19/09 Update Now it's worth 5 stars, as you can adjust the text color & size, for day and night reading. Another bonus is that you can alter the text to vertical or horitontal & lock it there. I love it & am now going to buy books! The black on white is better than I expected, because you can just dim the brightness through the phone settings. But at night, this is still way too bright (gray on black would be perfect). I prefer having the text vertical, so this format is great. It's so quick to download books & I love being able to get a sample chapter to preview. Kindle books are a lot cheaper than Stanza. My only dissapointment, aside from the lack of screen/font color choices, is that turning pages could be smoother. I'll flick the screen, the page moves a little, but remains on the page I just read (I don't have this issue in Stanza). Perhaps I just need to work on my Kindle technique :)

I never really want to lug around a book or a separate device (Kindle) to keep myself occupied, so I usually just mess with my apps and games when I have 5 or 10 minutes to kill or even an entire hour or more. This is perfect! No additional hardware, just my beautiful iPhone providing bestsellers at my fingertips. I personally don't really care about newspapers or magazines - DIGG is good enough.

I use my ipod to read with this app rather than listen to my music. I have about 200 books in my ipod and I have all my books all the time, everywhere. It works perfect for me, and now that you can input notations is absolutely wonderful. They have free ebooks every 1-2 weeks. And what I love the most, the files are small so you can buy a lot with minimal memory use. You cannot beat the price of the books too! (Except for Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie which I bought form B&N ereader but the file is bigger). I am so happy with this. I am not drooling over the kindle as much anymore. =)

I absolutely love this application. OMG it is so easy to use and just the perfect application for someone like me that reads on the go. I have no complaints!!! I have read some of the complaints and I don't have any of the issues that I read from other critics. I found the downloading, shopping, and reading experience excellent. I get the fact that I am reading a book on a small iphone screen and it makes this even more amazing and useful for me. I am a very mobile person and I travel a lot so this application is my best friend on a 10 hour flight somewhere. Thanks for such a great application!!!!

It is so convenient to be able to read just pulling my iPhone out of my pocket anywhere I go, not having to actually carry a book. My iPhone syncs right up with my kindle no problem, do you people with syncing problems have an iPod with no wifi?¿ This app is only missing click to dictionary, and text to speach... But that would be asking too much out of a free appIn my opinion though still  because i never used to read now i do just because of the sheer convenience!Thank you kindle

$360 in your bag or free in your hand. This app is great but it needs to be able to sync with Kindle devices for people who have them. And why does such a great app have to have such a boring playlist, unable to organize your books and none of the books I have show a cover as there icon instead it has the first page, makes me feal like I'm sorting through 50 year old documents, if it cant show a cover it should at least let us add our own.

Allowed me to register myself, my wife and my two daughtesr as iPod Touch user and share my archived library. Now we all have access to Kindle and I didn't have to pay $359. That is worth five stars right there.
I wish I could highlight and make notes. Perhaps in a future version this will be available. I also wish I could purchase straight from the kindle app. This too may be corrected.
Nonetheless it is easy reading, and easy sync with Kindle. I have first generation Kindle and in some ways iPod touch version is better (easier to turn pages, and book mark).
Great application!

I read almost exclusvely on my iPod Touch. I use the Kindle app the most because the book selection is much better. I usually shop for books on my computer, then use WiFi to download them directly to my iPod. I flew from San Francisco to Philadelphia and used the iPod Touch for both music and reading all the way and still had battery power left when I arrived.
I did not like the Kindle II when I tried it. It was heavy and unwieldy to me. However, my main complaint is that it is not backlit. I read in bed a lot. Adding the little clip on light just made the Kindle heavier and more awkward. Another plus for the small size is that my eyes don't track well when I read--especialy when I am tired. I find that reading in the portrait mode on a small screen really helps me stay focused on the text I am reading and thus improves my concentration.
I travel a lot and love being able to load up with a big seleciton of books and having them all fit in my purse.
As for news, I bookmark Google News and find that quite adequate. I could perhaps see using a larger format, color reader for text books and othe professional reading. But for now, I am happy with Kindle for the iPod/iPhone.

I was really considering buying the kindle but after crunching numbers, decided not to because I don't spend that much money on books each year and couldn't justify the cost of the kindle with the added cost of book. I was so excited when the kindle was released for iPhone and that the app was free!!! Totally made my weekend. I bought my first book and have enjoyed reading on my phone since. Thanks! it is a totally acceptable reading experience!

I wasn't sure I was going to like this app but I bought a book for 9.99 and started reading. I was skeptical but I really enjoy reading from my iphone. I don't have to have my light on at night and I have my phone with me all the time so I can read anywhere. It's easy to use, fast, smart and a great value. It's going to be hard for me to read from a real book from now on because I really enjoy my iphone kindle. Thanks for a great app!

My life is complete! This App is amazing: it results in the perfect sized reading device (an iPhone) with all the instantly downloadable books available for the Kindle (at a slightly higher price? I'm not sure.) Font size can be adjusted, but I have no trouble reading the default font. Backlighting allows me to read anywhere (even in bed without bothering hubby). I'm letting all my friends know! Get it!

As a writer, I love that this app let's my Kindle exclusive fiction reach a wider audience. When comparing this app to the Kindle, the touch screen is easily preferred over the Kindle's clacky buttons and sometimes slow interface. This being pocket sized is also a plus. The app lacks the wonderful e-paper screen and a few of the Kindle's bells and whistles (free Internet, dictionary, massive battery life, and text-to-voice) but no complaints. If you don't have a Kindle, this app is a highly worthy substitute. If you already have a Kindle, it'll come down to the type of screen you're in the mood to stare at.

I love this application - while others are doing the "blackberry prayer" in meetings; I'm actually reading a book! It does not have all of the functionality of the kindle; however it works well as designed - giving you the ability to read and sync your books between the kindle device and your iphone. You won't be able to search, add notes, use the dictionary etc. But if it could do all of that and for free - why would you even buy a kindle. It's free and it works perfectly.
