Fantastic timesaver  rating of DocScanner
By: Asz123 - 26-Aug-2009
Version: 1.8.2
One of the best apps out there. I am the most disorganised person when it comes to receipts and keeping track of bits of paper. But this little app sorts it all out. Get a receipt, take a photo, scan it there and then and upload it to your idisk all in one go. This means I can email out all my receipts to my accountant at the end of the month, without having to go through tons of paperwork looking for things.. Love the app!

Extremely useful app. Everything is set up perfectly for the scanning and the processing of documents. This would definitely take considerably longer using an art package and the in built camera - I did originally attempt this. Everything is so easy and the finished scan is very clear and legible. Obviously not the same quality as a photo copier but in my opinion not far off. I like the improvements in the new version - in particular the magnifying glass to aid easier cropping of documents. Sharper image mode is also useful. Another user mentioned that they were charged for the update - I can definitely say that I was not charged - my update was free as you would expect.I was so impressed with the earlier version that I descided to install the next update regardless of whether I was charged again or not.

I have dissed this a number of times for other apps of almost the same function but I always eventually run back to this. Please try to make it sync with google doc and make it purely OPTIONAL whether we want it to "recognize" the edges or not! It slows things up! Notwithstanding, I still think it deserves five stars.I am confident it can get better. If the developers actually use this app themselves, I'm sure it will get better.

This app keeps getting better and better. I hope that a future update will give us the ability to organize our docs in categories or sub folders. This is an excellent tool for making multiple page PDF files. I am amazed how fast it works. For what it does it is worth the money. It will help organize your papers. It is also good for sending multiple photos in a single email via a PDF. My thanks to the developer for developing this great app.

I went back through this app and found settings that I didn't see before. Now the new settings I don't have to adjust anything anymore and scan's come out great. This is one of the best doc scanner apps in iTunes.I'm using this without the Griffin Clarifi and it works great. The app works fine with no problems. It great you can attach multiple pages to your PDF's as that to me makes it worth every nickel. This is good for making copies of doc's when your on the road.

Very useful  rating of DocScanner

I really don't understand the negative reviews here. This software is inexpensive and does exactly what it says on the tin. As a senior academic I often work to tight deadlines; last week I had to email a set of author copyright forms to a publisher and my all-in-one flatbed scanner flatly refused to work with my mac. This software dug me out of this hole by emailing a set of entirely legible forms to my publisher very rapidly - somehow the app image-processing rendering the image significantly more legible than if I had simply used the iPhone camera..One word: excellent!

Good enough to replace my Lexmark scanner  rating of DocScanner
By: knaught - Jan 4, 2010

Very pleased with this app; works remarkably well (I'm using a 3GS with pages set under a table lamp).Page detection is practically 100% accurate; perspective correction is flawless; auto brightness/contrast good 95% of the time (using "Background Whiteness - Enhanced" and "Sharpen Image - On" settings) ... I rarely have to adjust anything. Multi-page scans are a snap (you can even insert new pages at any point within an existing document). Final quality is very good; often excellent ... almost always readable (and the zoomable preview mode makes it easy to know if you need to reshoot). Wireless web server access makes downloading documents to my computer as easy as clicking a link for each document ... it's my preferred solution. Files saved to iDisk take a few minutes to show up. Send to Camera Roll sends only the first page of a scan as a jpg.All in all ... excellent app. No regrets over spending $9.

Blown Away  rating of DocScanner
By: tveith - 4-Dec-2009
Version: 2.0.1
I did a lot of research before purchasing DocScanner and although this app was more expensive than JotNot and several others, it was definitely worth it. I am absolutely blown away by the quality of the scans. I tested with a two page performance review that was more than a year old. The corners were bent and it wasn't in the greatest condition. I placed the pages on an old wooden desk with the hall light overhead, snapped and scanned both pages and I literally gasped in disbelief as the application detected the edges (even though they were bent) and provided me with a quality scan that greatly exceeded my expectations. I then emailed the PDF and JPG files to my personal account to view the results, and again, I was not disappointed by the quality of what I received. This was by far the best $8.99 I've spent in the app store and I now have my own handheld document scanner. Thanks for a wonderful app, I look forward to future updates.

I had to play around with the smtp mail settings, but I did finally hit the right combo of parameters. I used my Yahoo account and it works great for sending. I gave up trying on my gmail account. The other features of the app are excellent. The straightening and re-proportioning function is really nice. The fact that it can send the result as a pdf attachment is really nice. I have a Griffin case with close-up lens which is needed for sharp close ups of documents. I am including this as one of my favorite apps.

Great Application  rating of DocScanner

One of the best apps if you scan a lot of documents to send to clients/coworkers at work. If I need to send a draft figure to a client, take a pic with this app and email it directly to the them. Need to copy a couple of pages from a meeting, use this app and save them to the phone. Beats having to run to the scanner in copy room than run back to the computer to email it to the client. The fact it can make multiple page PDFs just makes it that much better.

Worked for me  rating of DocScanner
By: jxx - Oct 10, 2009
Version: 1.8.2
My test: I took a photo ("scanned") a page of cello music I am working on. Emailed it to myself as PDF file. Printed it. Played from it. Obviously a flat bed scanner would give better results. But for a hand held scan, this was impressive. Folks who say just use the camera miss the point. White paper will not look white without exposure compensation or post processing. I don't understand the low ratings.

Excellent App!!  rating of DocScanner

Works exactly as described. No need for customer support, as this app is as simple to use as your camera. I use it daily for my business, and highly recommend it to others on the go. Great addition to the iPhone. I now have a document scanner which automatically crops and converts to PDF file or jpeg and emails right from app or save for later use, I have control/access to all of my computers-regardless of where I am(VNC), I process credit cards on the go (Merchantwarehouse), I am able to watch and hear everthing at my place of business and home via webcams (icam), and even have a complete turn by turn navigation system (navigon), All with ONE device. Plus much more, What more could you want. Bravo to the developer of (docscanner). Attention!!!!! HATERS, remember this is still a phone. Be happy and grateful for the developers for making your phone so much more. Without them the app store wouldn't exist. Their are alot of crap apps out their, this is NOT one of them. If you have complaints about apps and wish to rate 1star reviews, get off your butt, get educated and create something better!!!!-if you can. Kudos to above mentioned developers!!

I like the user interface on Scanner Pro a little better but the auto paper outline on this app makes it a little better. My advice with any of these scanning apps is to take a photo of your document on your photo roll, then process it with the 'Perfectly Clear' app (no I'm not selling that app it just works well for this), then load it into doc scanner---much better brightness and contrast balance, try it and see! ;)

Excellent - Does 100% of what I want  rating of DocScanner
By: neilboyd - 22-May-2009

I was nervous to buy this app having been 'burnt' by other expensive apps that did not deliver what I had hoped. Thankfully, DocScanner has delivered 100% of what I wanted it to do. It is worth every penny. I'm totally delighted with it.
It is easy to use. The sliders to adjust contrast and brightness work without problem. I can use photos from my Photo Album as well as 'live' camera shots. To select the area to crop, I can hold the line to adjust the corner point which means that I do not have to have my finger over the point I am trying to see. I can change what brightness and contrast adjustments are made. The email option worked first time with my MobileMe Mail account.
I have over 250 apps in iTunes. This is the first app I've owned that does exactly what I want.

Its good.  rating of DocScanner
By: CRS28475 - 21-Aug-2009
Version: 1.8.1
This App does exactly what the blurb boasts. I use it all the time. As a designer I'm often scribbling things down to then email to clients. Its very good at this with quick greyscaling and contrast settings you can easily get something explained though a scribble or note. Obviously i can do this anywhere as I have a scanner on my phone now. Documents scan well but i rarely do that unless i'm sending back a signed letter etc, for this again it worked perfectly. if anything the camera on the my phone (3g) is the only thing that lets it down slightly resulting in a bit of blur.
looking forward to better scans in ver2.
My 5p's worth of ideas for the future
the scanning box - should be broken into 4, each section designating to a corner, move that area-move that corner, at the moment you have to peer round your finger to see the alignment.
post processing - simple post processing like cropping, rotating changing greyscale/contrast/colour after your scan so you can complie a document to send to people.
Naming each scan/photo as well as the document
TEXT - in picture text would be well handy

Does exactly what it says on the tin...  rating of DocScanner
By: DrSoton - 04-Aug-2009

Was a bit sceptical of this, but after being asked to send a copy of a doc to someone that needed a signed copy, I thought I would try it out.. Use my office desk, which is a light wood effect, took the pic, lightened it a bit and mailed it to myself to check it out... You can read it fine, perfectly legible.. My only slight quibble, is the fact that that it needs good lighting - the pic I took, one half of the doc was grading darker... Maybve a future developmetn could be the ability to lighten part of the doc on a gradient, or pic a seciton of the doc to lighten, rather than the whole page...
Very please with it.. came in very handy for me, worth the fee....

The best image of several competitors  rating of DocScanner
By: TheFourEyedJack - Feb 24, 2010
Version: 3.0.4
I wanted to know which of the major doc scanning apps would perform the best, so I took a picture of a document in Camera (iPhone 3G) and had several competitors each separately process the image. I then emailed the images to myself to compare them. The result? DocScanner produced the best image by a long shot. I was surprised at how different they were, since they all started with the exact same document image, but DocScanner was the best. The image had good contrast and was the easiest to read. It does make a difference which app you use if you want a quality image. That said, DocScanner is missing some features one might like and it did not find edges as well as some, though of course the corners can be moved to the edge of the document as needed. I did not try OCR on the docs so I cannot comment on it except to say that good OCR requires good images and the better image produced by DocScanner would be an advantage. For my part, add printing capability by integration with Print'n'Share and I can get rid of all my other scanning apps.

What are the negetive reviews about ?  rating of DocScanner
By: Renegade Master - 16-Jan-2010

I have not tried ScannerPro or Jotscan but since reading the reviews here - I have gone on to read reviews for these apps to ! I negetive reviews for each of these apps were in some cases the same almost word for word. I think this app is overpriced. I would really like the makers of the app to objectively say what exactly we are getting for our money that makes this better than similar cheaper products - what makes this one special ?I have given this four stars - I took one away due to the price. I have not tried the update yet. Overall I am very pleased with this app. I use it for my buisness. I can scan reciepts "on the go" and e-mail them as pdfs. It's great ! One other thing that blew me away - I "scanned" my large A2 paper monthly desk calander (I like its format) and e-mailed it to myself so I could see it from my iPhone wherever I was - the detail was really good ! I can zoom in and read my handwritting for each day (I have very small handwritting). So I am impressed. I can not do this with the image I took with just my iPhone camera. I can not zoom in and read anything - it's is just a blur without this app. All I'd say is I'd give it the full 5 stars - but deducted one because although these guys have made a fantastic app they have not marketed it well compared to the other cheaper ones - the icon is horrible too. Yeah I'm being fussy. I will change it to 5 stars if they can tell me why it's £4.99 for an iPhone app ??? Sorry boys it's too much for an app - unless you can make it obvious why.

Can't make up my mind  rating of DocScanner
By: mrchris62 - Dec 23, 2009
Version: 3.0
I like all the features and usability of jotnot over all the other scan apps, however the docsscanner app creates consistently a cleaner and more usable scan, so I continue to use both apps on my phone with hopes that jotnot will improve on there scan technology or docscanner will improve there app with auto detection, rotation, and one touch zooming. Jotnots ability to auto detect the document as well as manually outline the document is awsome, fast and convienent, were as docscanner (that makes claim to the same features) uses some kind of magnifing thing that is awkward, gets in the way and time consuming. Either way both are at the head of there class.

Promising...but has issues: UPDATE  rating of DocScanner
By: smellsofmahogany - Aug 1, 2009
Version: 1.8
Update: not experiencing the problems I first had. Very good app. Some minor issues...like, make it easier to name your documents...but overall it's exactly what I was looking for.I feel compelled to write my first review...this app is very promising, but dissappointing right now. I was looking for something that does exactly what this app claims...quickly convert documents into e-mailable PDF files. Yes, there are plenty of ways to do this with the iPhone camera, editing software, PDF maker and then e-mail...but this claims to do it all in one...and quickly. The app works well up to the point of e-mail. Something is screwy about the e-mail. I have been able to send 3 of 8 of the documents I wanted to...it took forever to send the 3...and two of the documents got e-mailed 20 times instead of just once. Very buggy! But still very promising. I recommend waiting to purchase this app until these issues are worked out.
