When I bought 1.0 I knew it would get me by in a pinch to make small updates on our web sites. I also knew there was huge room for improvement and they just filled that room. Great job guys. Keep the improvements coming. My only feedback is that it's a little confusing when I edit pages with the same name saved on the iPhone even though they are in different hosting accounts. I also thought that if I clicked a file, then clicked web view that it would show me that file in the browser. That would be cool to check on any updates made. Maybe even a preview option before making it live.

A customer called because their Contact Us page errored out. I wasn't anywhre close to a PC so FTPOnTheGo came to the rescue. I pulled down the contact page right from the production site to my phone, saw the formmail script it was calling, and then saw that neither the directory nor file were on the server. A call to the hosting company straightened out a server migration issue and then I went back in to verify the fix. FTPOnTheGo just made me the hero, even though I didn't do enough post-migration regression testing in the first place!Thanks Developers. Keep up the great work.

I must say that i was a little apprehensive when purchasing this app. I had a few struggles connecting to the server over Edge and 3G but seems those bugs were worked out in the update. This is honestly the BEST app i have on my iphone! Even beats Pandora :-) Logging in works great, uploading files is perfect and the text editor is a real treat for making edits on the go. Thanks for such a great app and keep up the good work!

I must say that while I'm home on my network it works wondefully well, but it seems as if ATT's 3G just won't let me connect remotely. I will see if I can connect through another wireless.Update: I found out that I had an antivirus firewall after my NAT firewall that was keeping me from connecting from outside. Once I got it configured I was able to FTP over other networks, even ATT 3G. I must say I'm loving it.

This is a great app for the basics. I run a couple websites and several game servers and so far this app has been able to do everything I've asked it to. Update web pages, review and edit files, and it works well with any connection type (wifi, 3G, edge, and eveything inbetween). It's the best 7 bucks I've spent on any app. I can't wait to see what the updates will bring. I give it 5 stars because it does everything I need it to do and does i well. Keep up the great work guys.

I noticed some of the ratings were showing low stars based on the 1.x version and some people's opinions of what should have been included. v2 added a lot of these, like file saving and web-serving capabilities, making this as complete a program as I can imagine. I have had only one problem with the Auto Detecting of the page encoding, showing a blank sheet where my code should have been. I emailed the support and after a number of very specific, helpful, and thorough emails both ways they figured out the problem and I was on my way. Great program and even better customer service. Worth it to me!

I am not a web developer, but a graphic designer. I work remote and my internet service is sometimes sketchy at best. Without tethering ability on the iPhone, I can't get files back and forth from my workplace to my laptop when I am without internet. This program allowed me to easily log in to my server at work over 3g, download the 14 MB file I needed and transfer it to my Mac via wireless FTP. When done, it was able to transfer the file back to the phone, and upload back to my work server over 3g. Set-up was easy and it connected the first time. No need to scramble to find wireless at a Starbucks or McDonalds when my internet goes down.

Must have for all Web Admins and Developers!

This app was obviously created with the wayward web developer in mind. Essentially, FTPOnTheGo lets you download, backup, modify, upload, and test various files on your website - via FTP - right from your iPhone. In the two weeks I've owned it, I've found it so insanely useful that it's already paid for itself a hundred times over. The usual scenario is that a client will call with a request - usually a tweak or minor modifcation (Wordpress themes, etc) that requires modifying a source file - but while I'm out an about with no access to a computer. In the past, the request would have to wait and the client would get disgruntled - but now I can just whip out my iPhone wherever I happen to be, download the file via FTP, make a backup, make the changes, and upload it onto the server. Then (because the app allows you associate FTP profiles with websites), I can switch to web view and test the file to ensure everything is working the way I want. If not, I can restore the backup or make more changes and re-upload.
The only thing this is missing is tag-coloring. It would be neat if the editor recognized opening and closing php tags and gave them a unique color - but I'm really picking nits there.
The short hit is that if you're a Web Developer, this is an absolute mission-critical must-have app.

FTPOnTheGo is my single justification for purchasing my iPod Touch.
Previous reviews have already said it, this app has everything. Log into ftp, download, edit and upload your web site changes, quick and easy.
Sitting in an airport waiting for my flight; received an emergency client email (free airport W-Fi) for a website change. I brought up FTPOnTheGo, downloaded the .php page, made the change, and uploaded back to the client website in a matter of minutes.
Web developers: do not be without this application. This is simply the most useful utility on my iPod Touch.

I'm no geek and I probably won't ever use all of the features of this app but it's awesome. I had no problems connecting to my FTP server. This app turned my iphone into a pocket computer. I can now view all of my client files right on the phone. I was even able to email a file from my ftp server to (well, i sent it to myself). Amazing. I might even be able to leave the laptop at home. This app works and it will make road trips and vacations much simpler.

If I had realized all this application could do, I could have avoided buying several other applications:1) Organize text files, images, movies, PDFs, and more into local folders.2) view movies, images, pdf3) edit text files4) upload anything to anywhere through FTP5) password protect the whole application6) resize images7) share files through FTP and web server, both built in8) view pages through a built in web browser9) Dowload any file that has a direct link on the webAnd more! This is more than an FTP program; this is like a mini-operating system.

This is an excellent app. and worked well for me. I manage a website, I get emergency calls ocassionally on weekends for simple changes. The text type editing works perfectly and tags are easy to follow on the iphone screen. I had no problem locating areas I needed to edit. It has "search and replace" and you can type in the line number also. I was a bit lost in the settings since the IT guy deals with permissions and such. It worked fine with default settings although I need to find out how to use the secure login. The only thing that I would change is add another step when deleting a folder. My first time logging in I was in the root directory. I hit the right arrow and was offered a few choices one of which was delete. If I accidently brushed against that delete button I would have been in a serious mess. It was bright red but still one more "are you sure" warning would be nice. Maybe there is another step, I didn't fully test this, but there wasn't for files so I assume once you hit delete it's gone This is a good program and worked with both 3G anf Wifi, on our host Network Solutions. It's also great you can put in your own password since our logins are complex. This way I can save all the login info without fear of it getting in the wrong hands. This is a very cool app and well worth the price.

I knew OF this application and just now downloaded it to prove to a prospective client that web edits can be done from my phone! Needless to say, they gave me the contract.. so thank you! I would have paid $20!
Here's a great idea for an update - color code the tags for easy navigation similar to how Dreamweaver color codes the tags. Right now I have to read through the head tags and scripts tags before I get to the body... gives me a bit of a headache... even if you just made the head gray, scripts red, and body blue, that would be extremely helpful... but get a little more deeper and make "Divs" blue, "Tables" Green "Text Black", and you're GOLDEN!
And just to help you out a little - if you don't know how to read and write html code, this program's not for you. The "RETURN" key doesn't give you a Second line on your website.. you have to know how to code a second line.

Just what I needed, now I can update my website from the top of a mountain. I'd wanted an FTP app ever since I bought my iPhone, but had envisaged keeping a copy of the website on the iPhone with all the associated syncing issues. Never occurred to me to just download each file as needed. Works very well.
Would be nice to have some means of copying an existing file, or saving under a another name, so you don't have to create new pages from scratch, but this certainly does the job for minor updates and fixing typos!

My favourite iPhone app. Perfect for quick fixes and small updates on the go, if you can be bothered with the touch screen keyboard you could easily code a whole site in this app. The app also provides most of the features found in a file management app (sharing files between phone, desktop via wifi, previewing images etc) meaning that you can use it to upload pages/images off your laptop over 3g when needs be. I would love to see syntax high-lighting in an update but this is a lifesaver for anyone who needs to maintain a website regardless. I have noticed a few people mention stability, I have not had any issues to date.

Really useful app. It's great for fixing problems with web pages and so on on the go. All I need is an equally as good graphic creator for iPhone and I'd be able to create a full-scale website with nothing but my phone.In the future I hope this app adds syntax hilighting and code hints, as well as a colour selection tool (although most good web designers should know their palette before-hand, it's useful).Anyway, this was definitely worth the money. Great app!

This app is easy-to-use,full-feature FTP client. I can now publish a website at my host provider, rename, move, delete and change the permission of files on a web server in order to maintain a website. Publish images for eBay auction listings. Transfer doc to a printing company. Submit advertisements to newspaper and mags. Move files between you computer. All this on my iPhone... All this from anywhere I go !

Within the first five minutes this became the best app on my iPhone by far. I've just begun to manage a few web sites and I couldn't be happier with how easy it is for me to do from my phone. A few, hopefully minor, things I would like to see are line number (for those hard to find errors) proper indenting (since I began web developement I have made it habit to keep things clean, especially because I use PHP and Javascript), and probably not so easy to implement I would love to see key word support that properly highlights keywords in at least a few languages (HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript). Basically I would like to see this app work like Cyberduck and TextMate for OSX, I use this on my MacBook and other than the few things I mentioned I would like to see, this is as close as an app has come. Again awsome app, keep up the great work.
