I tried Voxie and iDicto (both are nice little apps) but I love the simplicity of iTalk - I started with the free app and decided to go for the $5 premium version (although I really didn't even notice the ads in the free version - they really ARE unobtrusive!). This does exactly what it says it does, and very well - really easy to transfer files to my computer with iTalksync (I'm on a mac so I can't vouch for how it works on a PC). I plan on using this while I'm lecturing, so I can remember & re-use those little "jewels" that come out of my mouth on rare occasions :) so I really needed something simple with a BIG BUTTON . Nice work guys!

I haven't tried any other recorders but this one does what I want it to and the sound quality is very good, though as other reviewers have mentioned, using the best quality recording level uses an awful lot of memory. That's ok, though, as I don't keep them on my phone but download them to my laptop. I find I'm using it more & more now that I've got used to it. I recently attended a conference & recorded my favourite speakers, fantastic to be able to listen to the talks again.

Excellent App - good free synch tool available for XP as well.

Quality of recording is very good. iPhone perched on edge of desk, and recorded myself playing acoustic guitar for fun. Was amazed with the quality of the recording - maybe that's testament to the iphone itself, but as far as I'm concerned - very pleased. Also the FREE italk sync application for windows XP could not be simpler to use (as long as you have Wifi). When started, it looks for your iphone and when synched, allows you to drag and drop the files to your pc. Great app.

Needs e-mail function, desktop app fails constantly

Great app EXCEPT it doesn't allow me to e-mail my recordings, and the desktop syncing app fails on me at least once a month, then I have to transcribe my recordings, delete my app from BOTH the phone and iTunes, delete the desktop application, and re-download & reinstall everything. Then everything works again for about a month (on average. Sometimes more, sometimes less). Very frustrating.
PLEASE fix this, because otherwise it's my favorite voice recording app and I'd like to keep on using it.

I was interested in moving from the free Lite version of iTalk when I saw that the Premium edition's price was reduced. I didn't see much incentive to upgrade because the two apps are basically the same. But because I use and love this app so much, I thought it was time to pay some respect and buy it.The ads in the Lite version caused me to accidently tap on them at times, now the Premium replaces the ad slot with an extra control bar which is nice. This app rocks!

Works great. Hey Griffin, how about 1 or 2 enhancements? Save a geotag from my GPS with each file, let me also link or save a photo with each file, and have the option of saving to MP3 directly. Oh and by the way, I love how it keeps recording even when I click the phone off just like my music keeps playing even when the screen is off. It saves my battery and is pretty stealthy at the same time. Love it.

I purchased this 5 minutes before our neighborhood association meeting, I was sitting at the back of the room and the sound quality of the final recording was surprisingly good. The room was about the size of an average conference room with carpet on the floor so the acoustics were balanced - this is key with any recording - so consider your venue when recording. The application allowed over 1 hour and 38 minutes for recording and probably could have gone longer. I ended up with a 500MB file, which I conveniently loaded into iTunes. This is a very convenient and effective application.

LOVE this app. I was a big iTalk fan for the iPod and really missed the recording feature when the iPhone came out. This is a great app for recording personal memos, class lectures, meetings, etc. I love that you can pause and edit the title. Had a bit of trouble getting the synch to work but now that it does, its a dream. This seems to be the only app you can have extended recording time AND get the recordings into iTunes. Thank you Griffin.

When I need an app for a certain purpose I somehow manage to buy a truckload of them that either don't live up to their description or have too many bells and whistles and require a rocket scientist to figure them out. Currently I needed a recording app that will do email, too. Oh yes…I had the FREE version of iTalk on my iPod Touch for months, and it worked as advertised. But did I just buy the Premium version and be done with it? Nope! I think I bought 4 voice recording apps yesterday. None of which I could call "the one". Thus morning I was back on my quest when I came across iTalk Recorder Premium. Read all the reviews and finally bought it, tried it out, sent myself emails with it, which showed up in my email box within seconds. I mention this because some email I sent to myself yesterday with a couple of the loser apps I bought still haven't found their way to my in-box. iTalk Recorder Premium is "the one" for me. Anyone want to buy some very slightly used voice recording apps?
BTW…I see so many complaints for all of these voice recording apps that the app won't record a phone conversation. This is NOT an oversight on the developers part. There are 12 states that it is still illegal to record a phone conversation with "one-party consent" even though the Feds allow it in all 50 states. Just sayin…

Decided somewhat last minute that I needed to record a meeting at work. Downloaded the app the night before, used it the mext morning to record in "best" mode, and was able to get the entire 1 and a half hour meeting recorded. When I listened back with headphones, I could hear all 7 voices clearly- no matter where the people were in the room (the phone was right in front of me at the end of the table so some were farther away). Was able to get the 450 mg file transfered to my desktop with no issues. Exactly what I needed!

Now that the native iPhone recorder is limited to only thirty- something minutes of recording time thanks to the latest OS upgrade, I'm very happy having discovered this amazing app.I'm able to record lectures that last six hours (my weekend seminars) and I've had no problems quickly transferring my long recordings to my laptop. The quality of the sound is fantastic and I LOVE that big red button! Thanks to developers for doing such a great job. Please keep it up! I recommend your app to eveyone. P.S. To all those who wish that the app could record phone conversations: it's the iPhone that doesn't allow this functionality! Please feel free to forward your complains to Apple.

Great Voice Recording App. However...

I like the functionality of this app but there are 3 things that could be improved:1) The price! This app is way overpriced for what it is. There are cheaper programs out there that have used the iPhone code more extensively and are a lot cheaper or even free. But since the voice recording app market is currently filled with many poor offerings I guess Griffin have little competition2) I really like the design of the recording interface with the level meter. However, can we not have a similar interface when playing back recordings Griffin? The recordings are merely a list with a scrollable bar @ the bottom. To play any of them requires two touches. One to select it then the other to play (like voicemail). Griffin, can you change this so the 1st touch takes you back to a screen similar to the recording page, however, this time you have a big green 'Play' symbol in the middle which after you press, plays your message & instantly turns into a red 'Pause' symbol. You can then toggle between the two functions. You can still fit a scroll bar @ the bottom & put a 'Back' button to return to the list of recordings. Please also KEEP the level meter on display during playback as this looks kind've cool (make the LED's finer though so the bar mooves smoother)3) I don't know if Apple allow you access to this part of the iPhone code but if they do Griffin, during playback of messages, would it be possible to leave them playing via the speaker by default as they currently do, however, when lifting the phone to your ear the speaker is automatically cut off, the screen locked and the earpiece automatically used instead? Also when moving the phone away from your ear the speaker is reactivated & the screen unlocked. If this app had these two functions I would gladly give it a scoring of five!

The interface on this is awesome and well polished. Not sure how this compares to other recorders but the sound recordins are excellent quality. However as a result there is a trade off with recordings made using the 'good' level (which is the lowest of the available recording quality options) taking up an average of 1mb per minutes. The interface does show you the size of the recording as it records which is good. But could do with greater control over the quality

This is a great sound recorder but, I recently was recording in a conference and someone sent me a text while I was recording it was on standby I then slide to see if still recording and it went to my SMS to view the text and stopped recording did not even save. Please improve so that still records in the background even if someone phones or text or at lease save automatically if interupted. If this is possible then this app Is gonna be a 5 star for sure.

I have purchased and tested (almost) all the audio recorders and iTalk Recorder Premium with iTalk Sync is the best to date. Everything works as expected. No bugs that I have found so far - almost every other audio recorder for the iPhone have some sort of annoying bug. iTalk just works, transfers files quicker than others. If you are looking for the "best" audio recorder for your iPhone, iTalk is the best I have used so far. I am stingy with my five star rating(s), if I could I would gve this a 4.75 rating.

I bought both iTalk and also Voxie to compare them, since I found them to be the best, and iTalk is MUCH SUPERIOR.
Just one little issue. When I am recording and someone calls me, if I click on Accept, the application correctly pauses and saves the recording. But if I click on Reject or just ignore the call, iTalk automatically resumes the recording but only AFTER PAUSING MY RECORDING for the amount of time that my phone was ringing; IT WOULD BE NICE if the application doesn't pause my recording if I Reject or ignore the call.
I honestly don't know if iPhone will allow you do something like that (as a programmer).

Just downloaded. First use is flawless recording of my dictation. Expect to use on travels to record notes, guides, naturalists. Wish it was out a year ago, and look forward to upgrades to allow emailing file and some way to attach a photo made about the same time.We are fortunate to have you developing clean, useful, productive apps. Keep up good work and I, for one, will continue as paying customer.
