A great value -- recommended!  rating of Recorder

I really dig that they added call recording, a pretty great add-on. The ability to edit down recordings before syncing is really nice, and I think the interface is really easy. Not sure why there are so many sour reviews about paying for call recording, I'm totally willing to pay a small amount extra when I really need a service like this -- it's a small price to pay for something I really wouldn't otherwise know how to do, and it was pretty upfront in the store info that recording calls isn't totally free. Highly recommended!!

excellent value!  rating of Recorder

For 99 cents it's hard to find fault about something that does what it says it would do - and then some. I am using the new $79 Apple in-ear headphones w/Mic. My first recording was OK but rather lo-fi sounding. Then I turned on the "High Quality" recording and sang the same thing. WOW! Huge difference! Now I can finally use the iPod touch as I had intended - to make audio notes and record melodies. I then used Bonjour through Safari to transfer my test recordings, which was almost instantaneous. My hat's off to Retronyms - you guys have done an excellent job - can't wait to see further options if any, but this is excellent!

Tweeting Audio New Possibilities  rating of Recorder
By: EduardoD - Feb 25, 2010
Version: 10.3
I have had this app since the very beginning when it first appeared on the app store with the original iPhone. When the Voice Memo app came with the 3GS, I thought this app was dead. Far from it. This app has always been one if not several steps ahead of the native iPhone app. Sound quality is better hands down. And now with the new Tweet option, that's so cool. I can now record a short conversation or do an interview withe call recording feature and share it on Twitter as soon as I'm done. Too cool. The icon might not be the prettiest thing out there, but this app has been solid for the 2 1/2 years I've had it. And although I haven't even tried to share with Garage Band, the capability is there, possibilities keep going. You won't regret the 99 cents. One of the few apps I have that keep getting upgraded for so little money.

Cheap but crap UI  rating of Recorder
By: Awayze - 24-Sep-2008
Version: 4
After other voice recorders, I got for this one because of the Wifi sync and email, the features that other recorders are missing.
It needs alot better UI, the Record button is a bit too large and no Pause button when recording. The editing of a recording name is hit and miss, sometimes the recording will start playing in stead.
Maybe you could adopt the method of where you select the recording and options appear to Rename, Play and the big record button changes to Stop, Pause, FF and Rewind buttons, Info, Email, Delete etc...
5* because it's cheap and has features which make it unique.
Sometimes I wish I developed the UI's for these apps but sadly I don't know how to code, yet!!!

Nice update  rating of Recorder
By: NinexPoundHammer - Oct 17, 2008
Version: 5
I've been delighted with this program from day one. The level meter in the update isn't just for looks. It gas helped a great deal, a eliminated worry about recording quality. Excellent, developers. For those wondering about recording phone conversations, the developers would have to deal with some touch stuff. If you record a phone call in a two-party (you and the caller must be in the know) consent state, if you don't make it known you're recording (even if the conversation is with your beloved mother) it ain't legal. Believe me, as a newspaper newsfeature witer specializing in investigative projects, I'd *love to have the ability to record phone interviews, but I've long learned I mostly have to live without. Nice job, developers. Thanks for the update.

The new updated version rocks!!!  rating of Recorder
By: Kayswah - Mar 27, 2009

I loved being able to use this app to record my musical ideas and then email them to my bandmates and then they could listen wherever they were at the time. Now they can download it as an mp3 file! that's what I've been waiting for. They have alot of recording apps out designed for music but this app for $.99 blows all the others away and it was designed under the business section. You can't go wrong with a dollar. I'm so glad I found this. I've also used this in the studio when everyone is playing load and it records distorted but it gets enough recorded for us to remember an idea. Great job guys on this one!!!! I do see me having alot of recordings soon and will be curious on how that will hold up.

To all bands!  rating of Recorder
By: The Sibling - May 7, 2009
Version: 7.1
Okay I use this for my band, the Sibling, all the time when we want to record something we've made, u may not be able to adjust the mic input level but we always have someone take the iPod farther away from where were playing until the input is correct then record from that spot, it works really well. Especially when I want to record individual guitar riffs when I'm by myself, it helps me so much with music!

Brilliant saves carrying a recorder around.  rating of Recorder
By: JOHNTY-NSW - 8-Apr-2009

Excellent and dead simple to use. It means one less gadget (Minicorder) to carry about and this program is fast and easy to operate.Looks very flashy too! I never realised what the iphone could do until I started looking at it carefully and realised that a gadget I nearly gave up on (PDA's/Smartphones have always stressed me out) is one of the best aids to productivity ever and once you fine tune it to your needs it is brilliant - just read the manual! I am just wondering now how many other apps are on the site to save me a bundle of time and stress.

Needs better quality  rating of Recorder
By: Nvictus - Jun 19, 2009
Version: 7.1
I've tested other apps that record, and this has the worst quality of sound. I have a 3G and I have to BLAST my sterio to hear anything, and I can still barely hear the distorted garbage that comes out of my phones speaker. I do the same with other apps an they'll distort a little but I can actually hear it. Plus with other apps I can record something at a crisp volume with a good outcome, instead of what's basically whispers with this.

Why does it skip?  rating of Recorder
By: jrad27 - Jun 21, 2009
Version: 7.1
Alright, this is a great app, record reminders, lectures, notes, hell even record your band! (see fourtrack) even without fourtrack it's pretty good. Now to my point, when recording a 5 minute memo or so it skips! Now maybe it's skipping because it cannot handle the "high quality" setting. I love the high quality feature it sounds very crisp and nice. But I think you should look into the skipping problem, or maybe I'm just crazy and my brain is skipping sounds. I hope it's the first and hopefully it is fixed in the next update. Keep it up!

What's next?!?  rating of Recorder

This app seems to get better and better! I don't know about the guy below but since 3.0 update it hasn't crashed on me. LOVE the new face of it! This app never fails on how great it is!! Even though apple has come out with their own recorder I will continue using this one...it's that good! PLUS: 1.I love the capability of being able to download them through wifi onto my computer. 2. I love that you can record in high quality or not. 3. Love the pause button…helpful recording class lectures.

Simple, Elegant, Extremely Useful  rating of Recorder
By: Earnest F Cavalli - Jun 28, 2009
Version: 8
As a videogame journalist I often need to conduct interviews with gaming industry figures. I've been through a number of audio recording devices in an effort to make it simple to record conversations for later transcription, and even the $200 dedicated handheld machines aren't as easy to use or simplistically useful as Recorder. For only one dollar you get an almost utilitarian program that records any length of audio (with surprisingly fantastic audio fidelity) that can then be uploaded to your computer via wifi or played back via the iPhone's speakers or earbuds.
I love that I can simply set my iPhone on a table, hit record, then conduct a conversation that will be picked up without flaws, even with those who speak far more quietly than they should.
It doesn't quite get a perfect score, though. One feature missing is the ability to record phone calls made with the iPhone. I have to conduct interviews via phone pretty often and not having to type while speaking (so as to not miss crucial details) would be a huge boon. Even without that though, Recorder is totally worth the low price of admission. Even if you don't need it professionally, a single dollar is a steal for a program that lets you take voice notes when you're out running errands.

Recorder is king!  rating of Recorder
By: omalansky - Jul 6, 2009
Version: 9
I've tried all the iPhone voice recording apps. Recorder was one of the first, and is still the best for making quick recordings on the go with an absolute minimum of fuss. Transferring audio files over wi-fi works flawlessly. If you want more features, give one of the others a try. But Recorder is the recording app I always reach for.
Update: Tried the new Voice Memos app that comes with the 3.0 software update. Still prefer Recorder. Transferring sound files via wireless ftp is much easier than emailing individual recordings. Long recordings would also be very tough to email from the iPhone. Voice Memos has a much cooler microphone logo, but Recorder is a superior audio recorder.

My favorite, most useful app  rating of Recorder
By: keviniole2 - Nov 26, 2009
Version: 10.2
I am a journalist and I use Recorder from Retronyms to record interviews. No matter where I go, from a noisy press conference to an intimate 1-on-1 interview, Recorder is the best tool I have to assist me. Customer support is responsive, too.
I highly recommend this application for anyone who needs to record sound on the go.
My only negative about this is if the phone rings, it interrupts the recording and there's no way to decline a call and let the recording continue.

Good Before... GREAT NOW!  rating of Recorder
By: donmcdonald - Jul 24, 2008

This is, by far, the BEST dollar I have ever spent! I am in radio and now will be able to record short actualities or feature snippets, then e-mail them for editing and broadcast. They have managed to get surprisingly good quality from a little phone mic. It's easy to record, preview, rename, and E-MAIL the .aiff file.
This is the kind of apps I imagined getting from the App Store. Professionally made and reasonably priced!

The Essence of Recording  rating of Recorder
By: leatherby - Nov 24, 2009
Version: 10.1
Update: Tried the new call recording feature. It works great. If I could upgrade my review to 6 stars, I would! It does cost money per hour, but it says so right at the start of the description.
This app is great. It provides a vital function that is inexplicably missing from the iPhone. Recorder just records and stays out of my way otherwise. The one button interface reduces recording to its pure essence. I love it.

Its works & its clear  rating of Recorder
By: Rick says thanks - Jul 23, 2009
Version: 10
Im in capital sales & record calls on the road because I obviously cant take notes & drive. This insures that I fulfill my obligations that can be very detailed & critical. I am very impressed & give it the 5 STARS it deserves. If I can offer improvement recommendations: 1. can we make the recording warning that goes to the person you call an option ? It puts people on the defense & my state does not require it. 2. it crashed a few times when I tried to call using the number pad button but worked fine on the contacts button. Thanks for a great app!

Update: Recording phone calls NOW WORKS!  rating of Recorder
By: S. M. - Jul 16, 2009
Version: 10
Update: Call recording now works! It took Apple's server a little bit of time to approve my purchase of 1 hour of call recording. After restarting the app, I saw one hour added to the available time, so I gave it a go. I called my best friend and talked for 46 sec before I hang up on him (he knew the call was being recorded; a female voice notified both of us before the call began). The recording downloaded in under 15 sec over Edge and exactly 46 sec were subtracted from the 1 hour. The sound quality is great, btw. Retronyms, well done!
---------------
I have been wondering what happened to the server that records the calls so I contacted Retronyms (hint: if u r serious about reviewing an App, contact the developers first) It turns out that Retronyms is waiting for Apple's approval of the pay-as-you-go call recording. This means that you can get an hour of call recording for something like $1.99, or purchase 8 hours at a discounted price. Unlike cell phone carriers, the time of a recording will be measured in seconds, not minutes! After a call is recorded, you get to download the recording to your phone, or keep it on the server. Can't wait to use this new service!
