Description:
FINALLY -- This is the PREMIUM DIALER app everyone’s been waiting for! Never scroll through thousands of contacts again! No need to search your contacts with a qwerty keyboard! Smart Dial allows you to quickly dial your contacts by spelling their name directly on the number keypad. (e.g. Dial 6275 for Mark or 826637 for Tanner) Why Smart Dial? • No contact sync required. Most dialers sync on start-up which can take up to 10 seconds or more. Start dialing with Smart Dial immediately. • Large familiar keypad. Why bother with small keys that make dialing more difficult? • The ONLY dialer with smart logic such as default phone number and recently dialed calls to keep your number of taps to a minimum. Features: • NEW! Speed dial. Assign 'Favorites' to keys 0-9. Hold the number to speed dial the contact. • IMPROVED! Send SMS with the press of a button. • Find contacts by first and last name • View contacts by default phone number or other alternative numbers • Create new contacts immediately when a new phone number is entered • In-app editing of contact info • Keypad dialing sound • Clear searches by holding delete key • High performance - even if you have over 1000 contacts, search is instant! HOW TO USE: Spell your contact's first OR last name with the keypad. Note: To spell 'C', there is NO NEED to press 2 three times. Once will do the job. Tap the down arrow to view next contacts. Tap the contact name to view alternative phone numbers of that contact. OR, simply spell the rest of the name! ***Please contact support@emailmii.net if you encounter rare crashes or other difficulties. We are committed to making this the best dialer app on the App Store.***

Reviews:
Great App By: Ralphyipod - Dec 15, 2008 Version: 1.1 I love this app, I guess i never realized how much I would miss a "normal" phone. without speed dial and letter search, basic functions in even the lowest cost phone, the iPhone missed out. This app brings it back on par. The only comment I would make is to include an Up arrow, or Back arrow key in addition to the down arrow included. Sometimes the name you are looking for is at the end of the letter, easier to type the next letter and scroll backwards. Apart from that its almost perfect. Well done guys !!
This would get six stars if that rating was available By: msandman - Jan 1, 2009 Version: 1.1.1 Smart Dial is fantastic. Start typing in the name of a contact using the letters that nice big phone keyboard and the software will find the contact you’re looking for after just a few keystrokes. So if you want to find George Smith, open the keyboard and type 4-3-6 and George’s name & phone # will pop up. Not the George you wanted? Press the down arrow and the next George will pop up. Press Call and you’ve dialed. Using the 12 big soft keys on the phone keypad is way faster and more accurate than using the tiny QWERTY keyboard. So using Smart Dial is much easier than using the search feature in the Contacts app. It only works for people’s names not for company names, but it works for both first and last names and it’s very fast.
elegant, perfect- caused me to make 1st purchase of an app, write 1st review: By: leaseguru - Jan 11, 2009 Version: 1.1.1 Absolutely perfect, does all it says and fills a CLEAR rare absolute MISS by Apple on this topic of large contact nearly INSTANT very SIMPLE search ability to dial out. One glitch - developer pls fix and update! My voice mail includes pauses characters in the phone no. string and worked on blackberry, and works on iPhone too EXCEPT the speed dial won't dial the no. in this app, evidently due to these characters in the phone no. string. But this is so trivial a gripe that I still say 5 stars!!! KUDOS!
Must must have By: Medistudent - Jun 19, 2009 Version: 1.1.1 You need this app. Period. Instead of clicking: phone (pause), contacts, (pause), letter, then the correct letter, then scroll through the contacts to fiabbly find the person I want to call. I just hit smart dial, (pause), then dial the name. Takes 25% of the time with the regular method. Also, stop giving low ratings for non 3.0 comparability. The description says they submitted the update. So stop. It's a great app and I can't wait for the update.
Smart, Useful By: mqbd - 19-Dec-2008 Version: 1.1.1 Basically, what this enables you to do is to dial in your contact's name, rather than scrolling to find your contact. It boils down to a matter of personal preference. I use this app to make phone calls rather than the green phone button that comes with the phone. It's a clever, efficient way of finding a contact. But, as I said previously, If you prefer scrolling to find your contacts, you have no need for this.
Great App - Stopped Working with 3.0 Update By: y0u5uf - 23-Jun-2009 Version: 1.1.1 I really like this app. It's a feature I used to use a lot with my Windows mobile phone and really missed. When I saw this app I had to have it straight away. Should be built into the OS, but at this price you can't complain Simple and does what it says on the tin. What's great is that if you type Steve and you have the name stored on your iPhone contacts as Car Cleaner Steve Joby, it will still pick up Steve's number. Please update to work with 3.0 ASAP and add some more features, Voice call would be great.
problems fixed with 3.1.2, now dials directly! (finally) By: pendolino - Oct 26, 2009 Version: 1.2 Update: the problem has been fixed now and there is no redundant 'call' prompt when you click 'call' the first time. this wasteful and annoying step has been corrected (it was because of a change apple made in OS 3.0) but now this app is back on my iphone's dock instead of the main phone app. ----- great app and I am sure it will be fixed whence I will give it five stars. problem is that when I press the call button I get a popup dialog that asks me to select call or cancel exactly as you get when selecting any phone number in emails etc. this makes the app more cumbersome since you have to press twice for every number called. developer: please also add support website or page on getsatisfaction.com. update: I think the popup call screen that people are talking about is likely a requirement of OS 3.0 and not the developers fault although some feedback or clarification in the apps info page could be useful. oh and this thing really flies on my new 3GS.
Beats other dialers BY FAR! By: josh365 - 16-Dec-2008 Version: 1.1 An excellent app. Does what it says and does it SUPERB. What I like: - FAST. Launches in 2 seconds max while others take at least a good 5-10. - newest speed dial feature is simple and works great using the exact method I'm used to, holding the number down - Very easy to find a number particularly with the "Search recent first" function which allows me to access a recently found contact before the rest of the list. Other apps do not have this intelligence. Of course would love to have voicemail but this is not permitted by the SDK. Buy this app and you won't regret it.
Good enhancement By: smoothoperator - Dec 14, 2008 Version: 1.1 I had a guestion about the texting feature and the developer got back to me very quickly. Great support for a Saturday night. This is a good enhancement to the Apple phone dialer. I used to use these features and really missed them when I switched to the iPhone. Will be integrating them back into my daily usage. Speed Dial was a good enhancement. Am looking forward to any more improvements that might come about.
Finally!!! By: The_Dude101 - Nov 11, 2008 Version: 1.0 If you've used a smart dialer before; you probably miss it. If you haven't, you need to try it out. Dial the name or number from the same keypad. I've used WM and BB phones in the past, and so have missed the smart dialer feature ever since I went to the iPhone. Actually, most of the people I know upgraded from the BB Curve to the iPhone and miss this feature. Thank you Gary for adding it! This has been a great v1.0 app--installed without a hitch and was able to use it right away. If you have multiple entries with the same first name (850+ contact listings--I do), just use the number pad to type in a portion of the name, then use the bottom left arrow to go to the next entry. If you have "search recent first" on in the settings, that name will now be the first name that pops up the next time you search with that string. On top of the stability and usability of Smart Dial (and its keeping with Apple's aesthetic style), the developer has been very responsive. I'm not even sure what can be improved in an update; but if we find anything, I'm sure he'll take it into consideration. I'll be recommending it to friends.

Great application and awesome support By: SalahAswan - Jan 31, 2009 Version: 1.1.1 I find this application to be one of the best I have ever downloaded. I have hundreds of contacts and Smart Dial saved me the time I spent finding the contacts. The interface is actually much more elegant than the iPhone's own dial pad. The algorithm by which it finds the contact's name, despite of the presence of multiple letters on each button, is genius. When I E-mailed Gary; the developer, with a question, I eceived a reply from him within three minutes. I moved Smart Dial to my first home screen and no longer need to refer to my Contacts application. Would have paid several times this price for this very valuable and amazing application.
Must have for iPhone! By: Sadie'sMommy - Apr 28, 2009 Version: 1.1.1 I use this app everyday to make ALL my calls, the phone app that came preprogramed on my iPhone has had bugs since day one, and nobody seems to know what to do about it. This app has fixed my problems about 95%. I still have to keep my other phone icon on the main home screen to see my missed calls, and would also need it for VM--only I never bothered setting it up, but I know that missed calls & VM abilities aren't able to be recreated in other apps-and that's totally Apple's doing. That's no major thing for me. My only problem with the dial pad has been, if I'm searching using the number pad, sometimes I need to put more than 3 letters in to search the many combinations of contacts that are retrieved. Problem with that is, once I press the 4th number in the search it always just closes out the app. Every time. It also crashes if I scroll down when I get to the 4th person (ex: if I type in 238 to search for a contact named Bev, but 6 possible matches are found, when I use the arrow to scroll thru them, the app shuts down when I get to the 4 possibility). As I mentioned above, I've not been able to use my Phone App that came already loaded on my phone, so being able to add & edit contact info directly thru the Smart Dialer is a feature that alone would be worth the 2 bucks for the app, plus I'm loving the ability to program speed dial contacts, send a SMS from the app and everything else the programer advertised. I gave 5 stars even with the glitch I'm experencing, especially since it could be linked sumhow to the factory phone app by Apple. This is the only app I own that could delete half of its features but still be so useful and indespencable to me.
Smart dial--a near perfect app By: fred949 - Nov 24, 2008 Version: 1.0.1 Hands down this is the best app I’ve downloaded—very fine idea. Just one little, easy to fix thought—the letters are hard to read for us old folks. The truth is that the dial screen for this app is actually more centered on letters than numbers, so why aren’t the letters larger and white and the numbers smaller? Small dark grey letters on a green background are a real challenge. This should be an easy change or a settings option and would make this screen MUCH easier to use by older users. Thanks for considering this change and thanks again for a great application.
Very good! By: lens_hood - Jan 8, 2009 Version: 1.1.1 When I switched from my Blackberry the one feature I missed was how the dialing/contact function worked. This program basically matches that feature. SMS access is included when you go to the detailed contact description, the only thing missing would be a “compose email” option in addition. Great user interface, fast and easy to use. I had a minor question and Gary got back to me in under 5 minutes. Buy it!
Awesome! By: Pain Producer - Dec 11, 2008 Version: 1.0.3 I agree with the other reviews. I too used WM and BB phones before the iPhone and greatly missed the convenience of a "Smart Dialer". I would like a "Space" key added. Also, I had a problem with a contact who worked for a company that started with a "A, B, or C". The designer got back to me within 5 minutes and has already fixed it in a update submitted to Apple. WOW! Great job and quick response!Update: Fixed all my problems. Works amazing!
Going on the Main App Bar! By: JDub1970 - Dec 10, 2008 Version: 1.0.3 I was really excited to use this app because I hate trying to sort through all of my contacts when I'm in a hurry. I liked the colors and general look of the application and that is the only reason I am giving it 2 stars. The application crashed after I pressed the first key. I tried trouble shooting by resetting my phone etc but to no avail. I hope they have a quick update because I am really excited to have an app like this. If it's fixed I would be happy to amend my review. I am revising my review. The developer worked with me several times via email and was very helpful and willing to fix the problem. We tried several different things and finally after the latest update the problem was fixed. This is now sure to be one of my most used apps. It's going on the main App Bar! Great job and thanks for all of your hard work! Sincerely Jdub70
Won't dial...? Apple limitation By: tranquiloloco - Dec 12, 2008 Version: 1.0.3 Updated: Turns out my problem stems from an Apple limitation: contact numbers containing special characters (pauses, etc.) cannot be passed by AppStore apps. Boo. Makes no sense. App performs as advertised and provides a much needed improvement to the stock dialer. Good work!--- Original Review --- The search is awesome and I'd happily replace the stock dialer if this app would actually initiate a call once the contact has been selected :-/ Looking forward to the fix. Once it's working it's a must buy. OS 2.2
Great app! By: john1027 - Nov 17, 2008 Version: 1.0.1 Nice to have this function back after having used in in WM for the past couple of years. No issues but would like to see some of the other reviewer's suggested features added. Also, it would be helpful, at least to me, to have a space key. I have a lot of contacts and many share common last names. I would like to be able to insert a space at some point in the search (e.g. when a last name ends) and then keep typing to further narrow the search vs. having to stop once the last name is entered and then use the scroll bar to chose the entry I want.
Almost perfect By: former-wm-user - Dec 12, 2008 Version: 1.0.3 Great app especially since I badly missed the auto search functionality of my previous phone. The one thing I would like to see different is a better presentation of the search list, I would gladly give up button size to free up screen space for the list so I don't have to use the scroll arrow button to find the correct name from the search list. With over 600 contacts this program is really nice to have.
The best search/dialer available and I've tried them all By: robdam1001 - Nov 15, 2008 Version: 1.0 Coming from a WM device, this was one feature that I truly missed until I found Smartdial. It is the best search/dialer that I have come across and I think I have tried them all, even Quickgold! I highly recommend Smartdial. Only negative is that there is noticeable lag after initial letter is pressed. Any way to speed that up? Granted I do have 1140 contacts. Suggestions would include adding an "up" arrow to the existing "down" arrow. Not required since you can just scroll through all found contacts but it would be nice. Also, to have the ability to text and email a specific "found" contact would make this app 100% perfect.
