I'm happy with this app. It is well designed, has a lovely interface and performs as described. Excellent customer service department-I got immediate responses to questions from their customer service department - and the responses very helpful. Recorded files can be uploaded to the itunes folder on one's computer. The app is easy to use. It's easy to save files and to label them. The sound quality is good. The app even provides feedback as to sound levels to help one monitor sound levels during recording.

Decided to give it another chance and glad I did...

I had problems with the previous version but now it works much better. I also downloaded and installed Speakeasy connect and it works great with my Windows PC. The only problem I find is that when I turn the sound effects off it does not record and just hangs. The sound effects are much too loud - I wish I could turn them off. Would give it 5 stars if the sound effects were lower or the ablity to turn them off worked properly.

You have developed a beautiful voice recorder. ¡Keep it simple and with such neat interface!
The limitations of your app are more related to the limitations of iPhone Apple OS: lack of cut, copy and paste; very limited horizontal cooperation between applications, very limited multitasking which forces you to restart an app after living it (except when you are receiving a phone call).
There are also "artificial" restrictions imposed by Apple to developers: no proper email's attachments, in order to limit the size of these files, I suppose. The only way to guarantee high quality sound records is to send large files, and if you are not allow to do that you cannot have in place a proper emailing system for sending your recordings. Apple also impose the prohibition to do phone conversations recordings in his SDK, etc.
I have already tried SpeakEasy Connect to download your recorders to your computer. It works seamlessly! You can download your voice files to iTunes and from there you can do whatever you want with them (email, edit, file etc.)
All this restrictions will disappear in the near future as Apple keeps thriving with this game changer that is becoming the iPhone.
A great moment to be in venture developing for software for the iPhone. I envy you.

This is perfect ap for voice recording. I work in a loud enviroment, and this device records voice and ambiance or what we call in our biz, "room tone" exceptionally well. Also, the software is idiot proof. The sound quality is extrodinary. How cool would it be if Apple would write the next generation software for Iphone, so that one could save and email a recording just like one can save and email a photo taken on the Iphone? This would be a great time saver. Geotomas.

For a price tag of $1.99, I suddenly had a way to record a foreign language class I was taking. The program boasts an easily understood interface, which was another plus for me. While I am not planning on using SpeakEasy for recording music, a free companion program called SpeakEasy Connect allows me to transfer the recorded class information to my iTunes library. These two apps have given me a mini recording studio with the ability to playback while receiving decent sound pick-up in a small lecture hall.

this is by far the best mobile recording app out there. its ease of use and functionality makes it a must have for those who need to record quick ideas or thoughts on the fly. its also useful for long recordings such as lectures, speeches, etc. the ability to name and categorize recordings is a plus. but the best feature is the ability to transfer the recordings to itunes so you can scrub and preview better than on the phone itself. Zarbo also has excellent customer support, so any issues are addressed swiftly and courteously. highly recommended!!

Very intuitive and easy to use. First thing you should do after loading and playing is go to the Zarboo site and download the free application that interfaces with the recordings made with SpeakEasy. It will allow you to move the recordings selectively into iTunes and it will even make ringtones for you to transfer to your phone. We plan on recording the grandkids at Xmas time and then when they call.....Bingo it's them. Only 1 problem I have noticed as have others.....the volume is not great. Can't seem to figure out how to turn on the speakerphone from the application? It's great anyway!! Good job Zarboo & thanks!

After you purchase a piece of software from Itunes and there are other similar programs that do some of the same things out there. You hope that you've made a good choice. Been there, done that a number of times, knowing full well that you could pick a lemon. After I fired SpeakEasy up and used it for awhile, I knew that I had hit not only a homerun but also a grandslam, clear the bases homerun. I tell you this is the slickest, easiest and most user friendly recorder that I have ever owned. Any one can use this recorder in seconds without instructions, yet it is a full featured voice recorder. The recording quality is first rate, even when you are 4 or five feet away, it is crisp and clear. Start recording immediately, add notes, comments, categories, and photos later. Recordings are dated and time stamped.The program SpeakEasy Connect allows me to store recordings on Itunes for later use and editing. I do like the ability to make ringtones out of soundbytes. I love having my Wife and Childrens voices made into custom ringtones. If there is a weakness in this application, I have not found it yet. One of the best purchases I have made. Now I don't have to lug around my $200.00 voice recorder.

Alright, first things first. I LOVE this app. as it is by FAR the most often used app on my iphone, and as a music student, it is incredibly helpful. Now for the sweet stuff.......
TO ALL THOSE WHO WANT TO KNOW HOW TO IMPORT FILES ONTO YOUR COMPUTER, the software company who designed this app, Zarboo studios, have a website. On this website, you can download a program for your PC/Mac that will take your recordings and put them into a folder on your Itunes with you labelled as the artist. this program is EXTREMELY streamlined, and almost as easy to use as the Itunes sync process itself. I CAN NOT stress how fantastic this application is.

SpeakEasy was my first iPhone application which means I'm not a power user so I just wanted something to record fast notes and/or lectures. The interface is easy to use and understand, performance is reliable and produces high-quality results. Provides plenty of options for saving, deleting, pausing, and transferring to iTunes (via a separate and equally reliable app.) Customer service has been fast and courteous. What more could you ask for? I recommend this app to anyone who needs a straightforward solution to audio recording on the iPhone.

I bought this recorder after reading reviews of this and several other products. Ultimately, I chose SpeakEasy Voice Recorder in part because it was described as requiring fewer keystrokes than other products. I am VERY pleased with its easy-to-use interface and the quality of the recorded sound. 
Also easy: transferring the sounds to iTunes using Zarboo's free SpeakEasy Connect application. The transferred sounds are placed in the Music folder with "Me" listed as the artist, so they are easy to find. I've used the recorder to capture both quiet personal reminders and multi-person discussions. 
I recently used the recorder to capture two kinds of unusual sounds: soft/low (the voice of a chatterbox cockatiel going through his entire vocabulary) and extra loud (the bray of a donkey, whose voice is now a ringtone crafted by GarageBand). SpeakEasy Recorder is GREAT! It's a practical tool for business AND a fun recorder for the not-so-serious.

I really like this app because it’s easy to use and pretty strait forward. I really like the fact that I can make my own ringtones now instead of paying $0.99 for each one and not always finding the song I want. What I really like the most is that I had a problem with getting the recordings onto my iTunes so I asked the developer (s) for help. They answered me in less than an hour and I got the problem fixed in the next 30 minutes. It is nice to know that they care about the people who buy their product. I really recommend Speak Easy and anything else made by the developer(s).

Let me start by saying I have not tried any other voice recorder software on my iPhone. However, after reading a lot of reviews I decided to give this product a try. The interface is intuitive and I had no problem figuring out how to use the product. I have tried recording using the built in mic and with the mic on the earbuds and found the recordings came out as one would expect. I sync the iPhone with a MacBook so I downloaded the free application that allows my SpeakEasy recording to be saved in iTunes. When I first loaded the application I could not get the voice recordings to transfer from the phone to the computer. I send an email to the the support group at Zarboo Software. Now it is important to note I sent that email about 7 in the evening and within 20 minutes I had a response with the information I needed to address the problem I was having. Five minutes later I had everything working and was pleased to see my recording show up on my MacBook.
Nice software, great support. It has my recommendation.

Awesome with fine tuning!!!

In and of itself this is one of the more user friendly and functional apps I have downloaded yet. The quality is solid and the latest version seems to have addressed the sync problem with iTunes. My only suggestion is a sister app or app addition that allows users to upload to a web-based file storage platform like Box.net etc...Other than that, I highly recommend this for those who need thrive on quick access to info capture.Thanks

Solving transfer problems & using an external mic!

I'm a user who solved similar SpeakEasy Connect transfer problems to those I've been reading about here, plus I'm using an external mic. Here's what I've done:To solve the "missing" or "untransfered" recording issue, make sure that when you sync with iTunes you do an actual back-up. Sometimes iTunes only syncs your iPhone without doing a back-up. This causes SpeakEasy Connect to ignore new recordings on your phone. You can force iTunes to do a back-up by unplugging your phone while iTunes is running (but NOT during a sync!) and then plugging it back in. The next time you sync, iTunes will follow it up with an actual back-up. Now when you launch SpeakEasy Connect your new recordings should show up in the list.At least this works for me.Also, I've been able to connect this recorder and my iPhone 3G to my $600 Sennheiser mic!!!! The sound is stunning. Here's how I did it:First, I plugged a 3 channel (1 video, 2 audio) 1/8 niniphone plug into the earphone jack of my iPhone. This is the kind of miniphone plug that splits video to yellow RCA and audio to red and white RCA. The iPhone is made to work with a headset mic that appears to correspond with the yellow (video) RCA end of the cable (though I read in a forum that others had used the red end). Next, using variouse adaptors, I converted my mic's professional BNC cable to a mono miniphone plug, and then converted that to connect with the yellow (or red?) RCA end of the 3 channel cable. That's it! I suppose one could use any external mic with the iPhone in this way. I don't know if any of these steps violate warranty, but they work for me. I suggest you check with Apple and Zarboo before doing any of this stuff yourself.

I am grateful that Zarboo Software decided to make SpeakEasy application available to the public for such a rational price ($1.99).
I can record, save, & transfer my kids stories & songs, class lectures, shopping/ “to do” list, things to remember, etc. The sound quality is fabulous. It is fantastic! THANK YOU SpeakEasy Development Team!

The workflow here is really nice. You launch the app and it shows you a big record button, which turns into a big stop button as you record. You can tag a recording with a title, comments, category, and a photo so it is really easy to identify them later, even without listening. For example, tag a recording of a lecture with a photo of the lecturer. You need almost no prep time before recording (just the time it takes to launch the app) and the tagging is very quick and easy. Even after making quite a few notes, I found that I could scroll through the collection of recordings and identify them very easily by the title and photo, go right to the one I'm looking for. I'm really happy with this app.

UpdateEncountered a problem with transfering recordings to my mac. Emailed support and got an answer back with solution within one hour. Just required a desktop software update.Very impressed with the developer. Original review Without a doubt the best Recorder app I've used. The ability to sync to iTunes is the killer blow that knocks out all the competition. However, there are a few issues: too easy to accidentally delete, it doesn't ask you to confirm; can't pause record playback then carry on recording like a real dictaphone; the record icon (mic) is too small and should be swapped with the stop button. In spite of this I'm still willing to give this app 5 stars in its current form.

Hi - Just wanted to let you know that Ive downloaded quite a few voice recorder apps and yours is by FAR the best. Sure there is a bug with the sound (I personally LIKE listening via the headphone / earpiece as I hate people watching me) When the option is released to have a choice between the speaker and earpice it will be PERFECT. Don't let some of the other reviews get you down guys.... CONGRATS on the best voice recorder app on the store in my opinion. Keep it up :)

I've been using this excellent app for six months now and i really can't fault it. I looked at the other voice recorders and settled on this, it has a very intuitive UI, recording quality is excellent and i find the back up software on both my PC and Mac work great. I did have one issue with the back up process after the release of iTunes 8.1 (this was to do with a change in the way iTunes creates back ups and not a fault with this app) but the support from the people at Zarboo was excellent - quick, efficient and friendly. Highly recommended.
