Description:
Explore the brain from the palm of your hand! Learn about the structure and function of the human brain by interacting with rotatable 3D models in real-time like you've never seen it before! Brain Tutor 3D uses rendered head and brain models that were created from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. This allows to look "inside" the head using real-time slicing. For students, medical professional and everyone interested in the brain, the program contains information about major parcellation schemes of the cerebral cortex, including lobes, gyri, sulci and Brodmann areas. With Brain Tutor 3D, you can: - Explore 3D models of the head and brain in real-time - Slice the brain along three axes (sagittal, axial and coronal) - Present text information about lobes, gyri, sulci and Brodmann areas - Learn where brain structures are located both within 3D brain models as well as in slice views - To get started: Select a display mode from the buttons at the bottom. Select a manipulation mode (rotation, translation, slicing) from the buttons at the top of the screen. Move one finger to slice, translate and rotate, use two fingers to pinch-zoom.

Absolutely excellent resource - even for a brain surgeon! By: B Roy Chaudhary - 14-Feb-2009 Version: 1.0 I have downloaded hundreds of applications on the app store yet never left feedback until now...But I felt obliged to leave a 5 star review for this beautiful application (I would leave 7 stars if I could:) This program provides excellent localization of various cortical brain structures on both a 3D model (which can be rotated) and also MRI scans slices (in all 3 planes). I'm very impressed with the amount of details that has been rendered for a free application - includes all major gyri and sulci and all the broadmann areas. Also contains written descriptions of the sulci, gyri and lobes.... Useful to revise even for a neurosurgical resident like me! Cannot praise it enough... Perhaps you could bring out a more detailed version with labelled deeper brain structures/blood vessels/nuclei/ventricles etc....wouldn't mind paying for it either... I'm sure neither will many other professionals like myself if the price is not too exorbitant (eg. like the overpriced netter anatomy pictures)... keep up the good work...
More than very good By: Schapp - 10-Jan-2009 Version: 1.0 This application surprised me! It's fast, boasts quite a lot of information on the featured brain areas, and shows everything in a briliant 3D model! What a wonderful substitute to my wall wallpapered with thousands of prints and scans showing a tenth of all the info this app provides... just shame I didn't discover this before my exam from neurology yesterday, it'd make things a lot easier :-D Thanks, guys!
Wow By: Dhhdueyshfsag - Apr 4, 2009 Version: 1.0 I am impressed with how this has improved my overall understanding of neuroanatomy. Thanks! STOP giving this app bad reviews, u get what u pay for. Honestly are u gonna sit down for a couple hours a day studying with ur iPhone? I paid 40$ for netters' neuro note cards App, and while They are very detailed, I have trouble spending more than 10 minutes a day while I'm taking a crap to study them. For example, my 10 mins today were spent writing this review ;-)
In all seriousness, to learn the brain this should be one of the last resources u use. Right now, I have an atlas, a textbook, a high yield neuroanatomy text, a couple hundred pages of lecture notes, online neurosullabus, online sylvius, netter's iPhone neuro app, and and a lab study guide. For a free app, this is a great tool to brush up on what u know, get used to MRI pics, and understand the brain in 3D. It would def. Pay for a detailed version that included the spinal cord, but for this free app there is nothing more I can ask for.
Excellent User interface By: rpurrept - Feb 9, 2009 Version: 1.0 Very cool user interface for learning brain anatomy.
It could be improved by adding white matter and other subcortical structures, vascular supply and perfusion of different arteries, cerebellum, and brain stem.
Finally, descriptions of functions are currently a bit light. More functional information would be much welcomed. Maybe you could pull from some public domain source like Wikipedia?
Overall, awesome app. And it's free. Gotta love it.
Great for Med and Psy By: MyUserName0027 - Feb 21, 2009 Version: 1.0 This is a great application, great idea and good for those who are in the medical field dealing with the human brain and as well as those who may be interested. People can slice the brain digitally, look at it from the side and even just view the brain. The only problem I have with this Brain Tutor is just that there isn't enough detail as I would like. But it is extremely really great for having on the phone. Useful, and cool just to show off to a friend.
pretty cool, needs to be extended By: ins0mniac - Jan 20, 2009 Version: 1.0 I am a Neuroscience researcher and this is a great educational tool. But I would say this is a good start, needs to be extended. For example, white matter atlas would be a good addition. Also, the ability to switch on and off the visibility of a label momentarily (or adjusting the transperancy) would be valuable to actually learn the anatomy. Hopefully in future some capability of visualizing the user's own data will be added. That will be awesome.
Highly useful for a very specific audience By: Etherproof - 24-Jul-2009 Version: 1.0 I find this app invaluable as I'm studying psychology at university. It might not be suitable for a layman interested in the general functioning of the brain, but a quick and efficient reference for anyone with a specific interest in neuroscience.
Simply great By: Govindsingh - 30-May-2009 Version: 1.0 This is a great application perticularly those who are doing neurology training.

Comprehensive and well implemented application By: jepho - 29-Jan-2009 Version: 1.0 What an outstanding effort from the development team. I look forward to seeing a similar application for the skeleton and muscles. I would willingly pay for an application of this high quality. Thank you all, for your time and diligence.
These guys deserve a medal... By: Gerry (UK) - 24-Jan-2009 Version: 1.0 For anyone learning brain MRI/fMRI, this is a must. The graphics are incredibly responsive. I really hope this isn't a one-off, as there is so much scope for further development. But even if it did stop here, this is a tremendous utility with a very finished feel. And free!
Wow! By: SilentAssassin2000 - 15-Jan-2009 Version: 1.0 Fantastic. iPhone was made for this kinda stuff. Possibilties are endless. More please ;-)

Grisly By: marcdraco - 09-Jan-2009 Version: 1.0 Wonderful and easy to use. Very well done but not for everyone!
amazing! By: belizefan - Sep 12, 2009 Version: 1.0 i'm a neuroscience professor, and i'm blown away at the functionality and completeness of this app! i've recommended it to my students. great job. of course, if you're looking to expand it, there are many directions you could go with incorporating more data about the brain...
Amazing By: Skasem - Aug 21, 2009 Version: 1.0 I wish I had this for neuroanatomy last year. This is amazing. Thanks for making it free.
Great! By: Deadlydingo - Aug 14, 2009 Version: 1.0 Great program. Very intuitive. Quiz would be nice, but surpasses my expectations for a free program.
Great app By: Kurt Debono - Jun 3, 2009 Version: 1.0 well designed, easy and fun to use. Touch controls allow the user to rotate, slice and zoom into the brain to get a good perspective of different areas of the brain. I would love to see an unbuilt search function and maybe more information about the different areas.
Great education By: Perkins02 - May 30, 2009 Version: 1.0 Good reference for even the non clinical. Thanks.
Outstanding! By: Maxxfield - May 15, 2009 Version: 1.0 This is a wonderful app that works smoothly.
