Helpful and Interactive By: stonecold33 - Sep 5, 2009 Version: 3.0.6 This is a terrific app! It's very interactive and uses a series of quizes and games to teach you the language. I'm amazed how much I've learned already. I've tried other ways to learn Spanish but most are so boring that I lose interest after a short time. This app actually makes it fun. I really like the way you can hear the Spanish spoken as many times as you need to get it right. The ability to track your progress via the scoring system is also good.
Really Good !!!!!! By: lee4everman1 - Nov 4, 2009 Version: 3.0.9 This is a really great app and it's free!!! I'm trying to learn some Spanish and French for my trip to Europe next year and this is so helpful. I've always found it very difficult to learn other languages and I'm really amazed how quickly I'm progressing using this app. The key feature of this app is the use of several different types of quiz methods to help you remember new words and phrases. Some of the quizes are more like games and this makes it more fun to use. So many other learning apps are rather boring, making it hard to stay interested. This app however, actually makes it kind of entertaining to study the language. Another nice feature of this app is the native speaker audio, which helps you learn how to pronounce the words correctly. You can repeat the audio as many times as you need to get it right. This app is really one of the most useful free programs in the app store. Thanks a lot!!!
Useful and Fun By: student25 in Cali - Aug 26, 2009 Version: 3.0.6 This app is really good. It not only helps me learn the language but is fun as well. It has a bunch of different ways to learn ... simple list, multiple choice, a hangman-like puzzle game, write in translation and a flash card function with optional automatic sequencing. The audio is available in every quiz/game and it's a real Spanish speaking person, not one of those awful sounding synthesized voices. A score can be recorded at the end of a quiz, letting you keep track of your progress. This is really important to me because I need some kind of metric showing what has been accomplished. This app really does a lot, especially considering it's free.
Very well done By: mark4your8 - Aug 11, 2009 Version: 3.0.6 I wanted to start learning Spanish again and this is just what I need. It's fun to use but at the same time seems pretty effective. I've learned the first category already and advancing through the second one. The aspect I like the most is the variety of quiz types. The multiple choice is easy while the write-in is pretty tough. The puzzle game is both fun and helpul. For a free app this provides an amazing amount of functionality.
Grandioso!!!!!!!!!!!!! By: Poquito a mi. - Dec 20, 2009 Version: 3.1.2 This app ROCKS for those of you learning Spanish. A great complement for this app is Free SpanishDict for other random words you need to know. The best part about this tutor is the voice pronunciation along with the spelling. SpanishDict offers some similar features so you get double the benefit. If you want to start with the basics- these two totally rock!! Sorry Rosetta Stone. FREE apps works for now =;op~
Bitesize Spanish By: Gipsychild206 - 23-Sep-2009 Version: 3.0.6 I downloaded the Spanish Tutor in the forlorn hope of learning a few key phrases for a trip to Barcelona. I initially found the application easy to use and more importantly - FUN! The combination of flashcards, study phrases and quizzes enabled me to pick up over 50 phrases / vocabulary in the first day alone. This is probably a better rate of learning than I achieved in several years of language classes at school. More importantly, it can be used for merely a few seconds at a time which means that you can use it anywhere at any time. An absolute gem!
Very Nice !!! By: sammart2003 - May 12, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 A very good language learning app. The key features I liked are: 1) native speaker audio - nice sounding, essential for pronunciation 2) quiz scores - you can track your progress 3) priority scheme - to focus your studies on what you haven't learned 4) multiple quiz methods - you can vary your study methods so you don't get bored The amount of words and phrases is limited but still a fairly useful set. Can't really complain though, because it's free. I would like to see the same type of app for German and Italian since those are the languages I'm actively studying right now. Additional comments: I like the change in how the categories are listed with scores, allowing drill down to quizes.
I like it By: MariaT83 - May 1, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 I can't believe this is free. It's a very good way to learn Spanish. It has both individual words and also phrases. A pretty useful selection although not a large number of items. It's really a lot of fun to use. You can choose between four different quiz methods as well as getting a simple list of the words. The puzzle game quiz is my favorite. The write in quiz is difficult but really tests your knowledge.
Impressive By: pat from oregon - Apr 17, 2009 Version: 1.2.8 I'm very impressed with this app. It's definitely one of the better foreign language tools available. PROS: - multiple quiz methods - audio by a native speaker - quiz scores to measure progress - priority threshold for optimizing efforts - having both words & phrases - fast startup & good performance - stable, so far no bugs found CONS: - content: limited but a reasonable start ... obviously they want you to buy the paid versions - need ability to reset the scores to zero - other languages would be nice
Masterful! By: l-o-quent - Feb 28, 2009 Version: 1.2.8 The program isn't for very, very beginers. It assumes the student knows how to pronounce the sounds of Spanish. But the progression through the quizes are ingenius! The first "quiz" (really should be called a drill - because it improves your ability) emphasizes pronunciation. The later quizzes emphasize spelling. By the time you finish, the words have been committed to memory and you KNOW you can use them. Really spectacular!

Lighten up. Hey! It's free. By: Donald Mansell, MD - Feb 24, 2009 Version: 1.2.8 The voices are pleasant and the accent of male and female native speakers from Spain.
Those who made the answers to the questions are helpful if not naive and you don't necessarily need to know Spanish to get the right answer.
Minor glitch:
Unfortunately, if you hit 'next' twice the app logs a wrong answer even though you made no selection.
I like the concept and the work the authors of this app have put into making Spanish Tutor a useful learning tool..
Suggestion:
Offer other accents beside Castillian, i.e. Gallego, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Argentine, etc.
Allow the user to choose male vs. female voice.

Pelotudo By: A Nother Thought - 30-Jan-2009 Version: 1.2.2 First review: if you can speak fluent spanish (a) why can't you spell 'gracias' (b) why are you downloading a free spanish lesson (obviously going to be basic) (c) maybe you should start with an English tutor to help with your typing - boludo/a !!!! The increasing numbmindeness of western 'thinking' scares me....By the way enjoy the application, its always fun encountering another language, I am self taught at (Argentinian) castellano as my wife is Argentinian and this was fun for us us both (particularly via my Northern English accent).
Needs Grammar By: Ryanf320 - Sep 13, 2009 Version: 3.0.6 For students like myself who have this application, there needs to be grammar because in school it's not just vocabulary that needs be known because that would be much to easy! So for vocabulary this application is incredible but I think and oretry much know that there needs to be some grammar and other stuff not just vocabulary so please listen to me you would make aclot more money off of students like me who need grammar where as like right now I'm not going to spend eight dollars on the real one for more of this but I would pay that price or even a littl bit more I the was grammar. Thatnk you and I hope that you will add GRAMMAR AND OTHER STUFF SOON!!!
Fun way to learn By: Gina Mason - Jun 20, 2009 Version: 3.0.4 It really does make it fun to learn and it helps me have more confidence to participate in my conversational Spanish class. I asked my Spanish teacher about the use of cerdo or puerco for pork. She said that both are used, depending on the country or region. Cerdo means pig (the animal) but is also used in many areas to refer in general to meat from a pig. In some areas, Mexico for example, puerco is typically used instead.

Helpful in some ways. By: iCM... - Jun 15, 2009 Version: 3.0.4 This is an excellent app for getting spanish vocabulary and spellings down. Yet it lacks the structure, guidance and clear meanings in the phrases/sentences part(s), which was odd being that the app had used all those vigorously in the vocab section(s). Now this is not to say that the paid version also has this problem. I don't own it.
But if your looking for a Spanish vocab/spelling and conventions this is a great app.
Good App.... By: Berkshire Zima - May 11, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 This app is pretty good. It has five categories of words and phrases ... town & country, food & dining, opposites, basic phrases and basic questions. While the number of words/phrases is not large, it is a fairly useful set. There are four different quiz types ... multiple choice, write-in, falsh card and puzzle game. This is probably the best aspect of the app, the nice variety of ways to learn. In addition, there is a list function. The audio sounds good with both a male and female speaker. This is essential for both comprehension and pronunciation. It's really surpising that this is free.
Great App, download it NOW By: C.C. the golfer - Mar 3, 2009 Version: 1.2.8 This is the first review I've ever written, and I only wrote this because this app is outstanding! I'm in eighth grade, taking Spanish, and honestly it is not my favorite subject. This app makes learning Spanish very fun, and I love the hangman like puzzles. The ONLY things I would like to see fixed are 1) A more extensive vocabulary (verbs, animals, ect.), and 2) The ability to keep an average score for the subject. Other than that thank you very much for this great app.
Works Pretty Well, Would Love a Little More By: AppJunky - Dec 8, 2008 Version: 1.2.2 It does a good job at quizing basic phrases, though a lot of times you can figure out the correct phrase without knowing much Spanish. I guess I'd like to see some more teaching tools in this tutor - maybe a few small lessons on tense, since that is important in the Spanish language. I do say, I love the idea of this app - I took Spanish a long time ago and having something to refresh the language is great!
