I love languages. I speak six and have been wanting to learn a non-Western language for a while now. Japanese was at the top of my list, but always seemed a bit imposing. I came across this on the App Store on day and figured I'd give it a try. I've been using it a week now and am just blown away and will definitely be purchasing the whole app for $9.99 (which honestly is the biggest bargain I've ever seen) The whole interface is beautiful and I like the conversational tone which makes it fun without seeming like they're underestimating the learner's intelligence. It makes a very foreign language (for English and most Indo-European language natives) seem very approachable. What's great is that this free version is almost half of the entire course, so it gives you more than enough of a taste to see if you want to purchase the whole thing.
I wish that this sort of formula could be implemented for other languages, particularly languages like Mandarin, Russian, etc. But for now, I will be working contentedly on learning Japanese! The beauty of this is, because I always have my iPhone on me, I just spontaneously pick it up and learn. I love books too, but this is better than most intro courses for Japanese I have seen. Just amazing. Keep up the awesome work!

This is app does a great job at explaining things in a logical and intuitive way. I'm very impressed with how much I've learned in such a small amount of time. I've tried japanese language CDs and sometimes the subtle differences in pronounciation of the syllables were hard to detect; this app makes all of that make sense in a very easy to understand way. I am definitely going to buy the full version once I'm through with the lite. Thank for the excellent work! Love it!
I do have some recommendations to make it even more fantastic (not sure if these are in the full version, so if they are ignore):
1. In addition to showing the way each syllable (character) is written, please include audio for the individual pronounciation - like is done in Chapter 5 with the "two-character combinations."
2. It would be great to have a summary section with each series and their respective ten-ten characters so they are all visible in one place for reference & comparison.
3. In Chapter 4, the a-series Self-Quiz: the audio pronounciation in third example in the fourh column (ei) doesn't sound like the two individual syllables combined; the "i" isn't prounced as the individual "i" syllable is prounounced but instead seems to make the "e" longer. An explanation of this discrepancy & any rules/reasons why would be very helpful!!

I took Japanese for several years, and I thought I would try this app to see how well they would do. I am pleasantly surprised! Although I have more than enough understanding in order to read and write Japanese, and pronunciation is no problem for me, there were a few tricks here and there that I had never heard of before (for example, tips on how to make your handwriting look better). I definitely recommend this for beginners. They did amazingly well and you can't beat the price!

If you are interested in Japanese you should DEFINITELY try this out! I'm thoroughly impressed by the method this program uses to teach Japanese and I feel like I've learned a lot! It teaches pronunciation and writing first rather than teaching you specific words and grammar first. I like that! Also the way that it's written really makes me feel like learning this is really something I can do! This lite version is free, give it a shot! You won't regret it if you like Japanese!
Oh yeah, and if you're concerned that this may not be a trustworthy source for learning Japanese, don't fret! I was worried about that too so after downloading it I looked up a lot of the information that it gave like pronunciation and specific characters. So far it's been accurate and I trust it already!

Yes I am an app junkie.! The apps I've bought have been a mixed bag, some great and some not! But now is the time to write a review, because in my opinion this is the slickest app ever. It's the best education I've had in years and I've learnt so much so quickly.... And it's fun, but succinct. It gets down to basics and then takes you to a level of incredible understanding. I never thought my iphone could actually teach me how to master a language. I love this thing. So step aside 'games'...... I'm learning Japanese!!!!!!! So I really wanted to try the non-lite version, but didn't want to put the money down to do so. I actually got really excited when I found the lite version. Since I've downloaded the software, I have learned more in the last couple of days than I have with the other Japanese apps in weeks. This is totally informative, fun, interactive, engaging... and all the other words I can't think of in-between. I'm sold now on getting the regular app. Please keep up the great work. I would recommend this to any beginner looking for an introduction into Japanese. It is by far the best Japanese learning app I've used. I hope the developer comes out with more exciting apps geared towards japanese language and culture.

This software is very well developed- Intuitive to navigate and pleasing to the eye. The lessons themselves are very clear, easy to understand, and punctuated with tapable examples to demonstrate pronunciation. I never had any interest in learning Japanese but I saw the lite version for free and gave it a shot-- now I'm going to buy the full version just because the app itself is so easy and fun to use! My only complaint is that I can't find a volume control; iPhone master volume doesn't seem to have any effect and I find it difficult to hear the examples (even with headphones) when there's too much ambient noise. (there may actually be a volume control, I just haven't found it yet). This app is wonderful. I wish all apps (and indeed all computer programs) were this simple, precise and fun to use.

Great explanations with recorded samples throughout. Also has animated tutorials for the kana. I have played around with learning Japanese for a few years and this looks to be the best thing I have seen so far. Think of it as a regular guy's approach to understanding Japanese. But don't mistake this for being a cheesy unprofessional attempt. This really is top notch. I can't believe this was free.

The above Japanese characters are read KATAKANA. I learned every Hiragana character in less than a day, and so can you, with a little help from Human Japanese Lite!  At first, I downloaded this app because I recently purchased a Tamagotchi+Color, which, since it was shipped straight from Japan, is completely in Japanese - the Tamagotchi toy and instructions. I needed something to at least help me get comfortable with this quite unfamiliar language, and maybe aid a little in the translation process. Human Japanese Lite was the perfect choice! It is really a great way to learn Japanese. It is humorous, educating, and most importantly, altogether enjoyable! Even if you don't have a TMGC+C, get this if you're serious about learning Japanese, and you don't have the money for some of those pricier language learning apps. Easily 5 stars! 

This app is simply amazing I am really impressed with how easy it really is to learn Japanese I had attempted it before but because of my add I was never able to stick with it this so fun and easy to use I can stay focused on it and accually learn a new language and mabey learn how to apply it in the buissness world. There is only one thing that could make this better and that would be a translator which would help you make sure your getting the words in order.

I bought this app having no knowledge of Japanese whatsoever, and I have to say I love it. It is very comprehensive and I have learnt Hiragana in no time and I am now moving on to Katakana. the free version gives you a very good starting point to see if you are really interested in learning Japanese or not. It is beautifully laid out, shows you how to write the characters and you can hear the pronunciations well. There is only one point I think is not so good for me, and that is the quiz. I do use it for a change but I have got other apps with quizzes for faster learning, as gaining spacial awareness skills is not on my agenda here. My advice is, start with this and then acquire, Kana and Hikachan for the quiz.
I have loved this one so much that I have bought the full version, because even if I give up learning it i feel I have got my moneys worth.

I got this app less than a week ago and it is incredible! The content is great and the presentation is extremely well thought out and engaging. Quick animations show you the order of the strokes for each written character and each word and sentence can be heard spoken by a native speaker. The cultural comments that are included between the practical language lessons are priceless! I have learned the most enlightening things through this free app. Many thanks to the author!

I have been a Japanese student for over two years now and I really wish I started off with this app!! Although I already know a lot of Japanese I learnt even more with this app. It is hard to believe but it went into so much depth I was amazeddd. I added this app to scratch up On my Japanese before an exam and I am ever so greatful that I did. Don't think yu aren't able to learn a completely different language before adding this app because your opinion will certainly change! I would like to give huge credit to the maker of this app and really cannot describe how much I would recommend this app.

I'm not looking to become fluent in Japanese or anything, but this program may well get me there anyway because it's done so damn well. For those who love languages and linguistics, you'll go crazy over this app. For those who don't, you'll find the app's approach to br warm, funny and down-to-earth. The author of the program seems to be a fanulous teacher. It's a shame this is only for Japanese - it would be a blast to learn Chinese, Korean or Thai from him.

This is the best app I've ever downloaded from iTunes. The people behind this software really understand the Japanese language--from an English speaker's point of view--and explain it in an upbeat, engaging way. The graphics are perfect, the sound files are stellar. I already speak mid-level Japanese but I am always looking for ways to improve. If I had never studied Japanese, this would be an excellent way to start. The main writer/author really has an appealing writing style and has a comprehensive understanding of both English and Japanese and explains it in a way that makes you want to dive in and study more.
More importantly perhaps are fun quizzes, that include letter and phrase recognition, with audio reinforcement. The whole thing is incredibly clever and I am going to buy the full version.
My ONLY complaint, and it's minor, is the author does, ON OCCASION, kind of fall in love with his own writing and will go on a bit too long, in a sort of chatty, informative way. But he is obviously so witty and intelligent that I really didn't care.
I hope that the full version will increase my overall knowledge and ability and it would be great if this company would tackle the kanji writing system, because if they can explain it with the ease and simplicity that they explain this first level of Japanese, then they would have a lifelong customer.
The free version is awesome, so I can only imagine how great the full version will be.

I am a total noob to Japanese. In fact, the only thing I know is how things should be pronounced (yay anime!). Or at least thats all I knew a few days ago. This app is actually incredible. I got it less than 5 days ago, and I already know over half of the Hiragana! The Hiragana is basically the Japanese alphabet.. you know, the one with all the crazy characters that look so hard to write? They really aren't. Ah and finally, the author of the app did an incredible job keeping it interesting and whatnot. I'm actually enjoying learning it.. enough so that I decided to write this review! Yay. Oh, and this is only the free version of the app, but it has MORE than enough content on it to decide if its working for you or not. I'm only halfway through (the free version) and already very satisfied. The full version is like 4 times as long I believe. Definitely buying it once I get the time.
