Description:
The National Gallery in London houses one of the greatest collections of Western European painting in the world. These pictures belong to everyone and are presented here for you to enjoy and keep with you at all times. Explore the brushstrokes and hear the stories behind masterpieces by Leonardo, Renoir, Botticelli, Rembrandt and Van Gogh, along with lesser known paintings and hidden gems. Listen to commentary and insight from famous artists, writers and experts who will take you on an unforgettable journey into art. This is your collection. Please touch the art. The application contains more than 250 works, and includes video, audio, zoomable high-resolution images, theme groupings and image galleries. Love Art is a Pentimento application created by Antenna Audio, the world’s leading producer of mobile interpretation for museums and cultural attractions. The art term Pentimento refers to layers of alteration that reveal changes in composition and thinking from the artist. It is a lasting trace, often hidden to the eye, of the process and the maker.

Reviews:
The next best thing to actually being there! By: the real disco stu - Jul 12, 2009 Version: 1.0 Can I be a lazy american AND still enjoy the fine art of the world? You can with Love Art:National Gallery. Its basically a walk through of all their famous collections with history & back ground stories from the experts. Having been there numerous times, it was still very cool and there were many things I didnt even know about individual pieces. Its probably the closest thing to "actually" being there. I checked it out while lying in a hammock in my back yard, drinking a cold one - Now THATS the best of both worlds!! I would love more updates in the future and it would be FANTASTIC if other museums would port their collections to this type of app.
Fantastic!! By: AKMom83 - Jul 27, 2009 Version: 1.7 I do not know how they are offering this free. It is beautiful, sometimes surprising, and full of interesting information about the artist and the art itself. The only thing I can think of that would make it better would be if you could enlarge the art to see more detail with tapping on the screen as I do with my photos. I still think it rates 5 stars since it is so well done and I am still enjoying this app after using it a number of days during off moments.
Just Amazing By: malc150 - 17-Jul-2009 Version: 1.0 Somewhat baffled by some lukewarm and frankly snobbish reviews posted here. This is a FREE application - beautiful hi-res pictures, absorbing commentaries and thematic guides to one of the UK's art treasure houses!Quite breathtakingly informative and beautifully designed.Yes, there are a few gremlins and this is a very memory-heavy app. It seems to take an age to download and install and benefits from a "soft" reset before and after installation. Be patient - it's well worth the wait! This is a little iPhone gem and delighted it remains free to all!Only one thing beats this app - and that's a lazy afternoon in this awesome gallery itself. Even then, I doubt you'll learn quite as much as you can from this little pocket guide!Ignore the patronising snobs posting below - this is a must-have mini lesson in art appreciation and history. Many other app developers could learn a lot from this and, once again, it's FREE!

Great first Effort - but could be improved By: Lynjon - 26-Jul-2009 Version: 1.7 A brilliant first effort at this application. Some glitches - quality of audio varies from item to item. In some cases audio disappears altogether. Also the visuals are a bit static - it would benefit from a bit of zooming into particular parts of the painting (see the Leonardo Virgin on the Rocks section for example). But overall worth at least 4 stars. I'm sure future versions will be even better.

Amazing By: Ankur.25 - May 22, 2009 Version: 1.0 Absolutely stunning.
Bravo By: jGordy - May 22, 2009 Version: 1.0 It's great that they offered multiple perspectives. I like hearing from the curators and art historians but it's brilliant to invite artists and authors to share their thoughts. Makes me want to go back to London. I hope they will continue to update the app with more works. Well done!
Wonderful By: Jprawn - May 23, 2009 Version: 1.0 I wish more collections would try something like this.
Must have for anyone interested in art By: UnconventionalChica - May 23, 2009 Version: 1.0 Simply a wonderful, well thought out app. Once I started browsing, I could not put it down! I really hope that others will follow: Louve, MoMA, etc. I cannot afford to see these works in person, however, this app felt like a guided tour!
Outstanding By: Pepethedog - Jun 13, 2009 Version: 1.0 This so far exceeded my expectations it leaves me breathless. I hope they cover other museums soon.
Wonderful app! By: Jhstubbs - Jul 1, 2009 Version: 1.0 Wow! This app is so well done and provides such insight into the different art pieces at the National Gallery. I like how there is video and audio as well as the ability to show the paintings enlarged. This would so great if a lot of the musuems of the world could have something like this done. Well done to the developers
One of the best ... By: fashionista24 - Jul 2, 2009 Version: 1.0 This is a really well put together app, immensely enjoyable an informative.

excellent By: MuseumFreak - May 12, 2009 Version: 1.0 FINALLY, an app for museums -I've been waiting a long time. I love using this both in and out of the gallery. The images are great; love the pinch zoom to see the details of a painting. Most of all I love hearing the audio and learning secrets about all the paintings. Hope more museums catch on and get one of these.
Outstanding By: EthanTD1 - Jul 7, 2009 Version: 1.0 Very nicely done. I would happily pay for more content.
