This app will revolutionize star parties! By: Astronomy Guy - Aug 24, 2009 Version: 1.2 This app is an absolute home run! I just got home from trying out this app. As I looked up where the sky map showed a satellite would be (in this case Cosmos 1484 Rocket) my daughter watched the application count down to its appearance. I called out when I spotted it; she said that as I said "There it is!" the countdown clock switched to how many minutes it would remain visible. The prediction was absolutely spot-on. This will revolutionize star parties. How? Because newbies at star parties are amazed to see satellites gliding though the stars; I point them out when I see them. With Satellite Visibility we now have the ability to forecast when and where a satellite will appear and be able to name it. Right now my 7-year-old son is going through the satellite list and using all the app's functions. Not only is it accurate, it's so easy a 7-year-old can use it. Worth every penny of the price.
Add a little more functionality By: Terrapinwrangler - Nov 22, 2009 Version: 1.2 This is a fine program, but it would be great to have a link to read about the satelite data from heavens above. I have found every satelite I've looked for from their site. It could be linked right from the information page. It would also be nice to narrow the time gap of what is showing. Satellites that pass by two hours ago are of little use for general viewing. Also, this app does track the international space station for those wondering.

very cool app - could be improved By: kssmith - Sep 5, 2009 Version: 1.2 i've been hoping someone would put the heavens-above.com satellite pass visibility data into an easy application on the iphone, and finally it has happened. this application does a really good job of displaying the pass data clearly and quickly. it's easy to find a satellite passing in the night sky. however, i do think there are a couple wrinkles that should be ironed out. for example, the highest minimum magnitude (brightness) is only 3.5. this should be brighter so that only the brightest passes are listed. also, once you view the star map for a particular pass, there is no back button to take you back to the list of passes -- you have to quit and start the app again. there is also no way to backup from the pass list to the initial settings screen. finally, i think it would be great if you could select a given satellite and get a list of all the visible passes for only that satellite. and as someone else mentioned, it would be useful to incorporate the satellite descriptions from heavens-above.com as well. all in all, a worthwhile effort -- a useful and fun tool. i'll look forward to some improvements.
This app rocks! By: jzumsteg - Sep 9, 2009 Version: 1.2 I decided to download this app and try it, and it works as described! I got to see the ISS for the first time this evening using this program in conjunction with the compass on the 3GS. Pretty remarkable program nonetheless. I would only suggest a map with a picture of the object moving as that would make the program more interactive and to give you a clear picture as to when the satellite is going to be visible over you. Also, please add support for the space shuttle when it's in orbit.
Exactly what I needed By: Jk EMR Admin - Sep 11, 2009 Version: 1.2 This app gets it right. Perfect for watching satellites. Don't bother with some of the other more expensive those don't work the way you need then to. You simply want to get a realtime list of the next overflights and get info to spot them as well as good count downs.A couple suggestions:- allow an in app compass and accelerometer based finde so you can even more easily narrow down where in the sky the sat will be- allow for setting a push alert for when a specific satellite or ISS is about to overfly you
Very good app. Love it. Two features away from 5 stars. By: hojo19 - Sep 14, 2009 Version: 1.2 I've used Heavens-Above for some time now and I am delighted that there is an app that brings its information to the iPod. I'm very happy with this app and for anyone who is interested in catching a satellite crossing, its well worth the money. Two suggestions for 5 stars would be: 1) List Iridium Flares and 2) Allow filtering of list so I can display only selected (or one) satellites - like just a display of ISS crossings. Other than that, great job.
Great app but would love to see tweaks By: classmusfan - Sep 6, 2009 Version: 1.2 I think the whole concept is great but a few tweaks would make it better. First, give practical information where the satellite is coming from (North - West, etc) not just technical longitude and latitude which means NOTHING to me. I still have no idea in which part of the sky to look. Secondly, tell us something about the satellite - country of origin, type of satellite (weather, communication, etc), date launched, etc - doesn't need more than a few words really. That actually makes the app much more interesting, IMHO. Otherwise a great idea.

Love this app By: Boldent - Sep 29, 2009 Version: 1.2 Its dead on. When im outside looking up, it answers my question "i wonder if that's a satellite"? Now i know .

Awesome By: millsdo - Nov 1, 2009 Version: 1.2 I really love this app. It is spot on accurate and has a nice little interface. The new version, out today, fixes some of the smaller beefs I had with it. It now scrolls past the satellites that have already occured. This app will continue to improve but it's great right now. You won't be sorry if you purchase it.
