Once of the best, most useful apps out there! By: djcode - Sep 21, 2009 Version: 3.01 This application works like a charm. I have a linux box hooked up to my TV that has VLC and a host of other media players. VLC by far works the best and plays almost any type of media you throw at it. Installing and configuring this app took less than two minutes! It immediately detected my computer on the network, and allowed for full filesystem access from my phone! I love the skinning aspect and the slick interface. Great job Rob, keep up the good work. Two thumbs up for this one.
Works Great! By: Wonkey The Monkey - May 19, 2009 Version: 2.3 I use this app to run VLC on my Windows XP laptop connected to my TV. I used to use a general remote app that let me control the laptop's mouse and keyboard, but this is so much nicer! 99¢ is a small price to pay for the convenience of browsing, queuing, and playing movies on my TV, especially considering that I once paid $40 for an IR remote that was much less useful. I love being able to see the names of the videos I'm opening on an easy-to-read screen instead of squinting at the TV from across the room. I did have to manually add my computer's IP address instead of connecting automatically. I am not holding that against this app because I believe the problem comes from a combination of my laptop's settings for VLC and Windows XP's networking settings. I suspect that the app plays nicer with the Mac and Linux versions of VLC, since those versions seem better supported by the VLC developers in general. Oh, and I still use the excellent iTap app to control my laptop for non-VLC use.
Works with Mac OS 10.4 By: another BillP - May 5, 2009 Version: 2.1 Maybe the negative reviews are based on previous versions. I have Mac OS 10.4.11 on a 2GHz Intel Core Duo iMac (about 3 years old), running VLC 0.9.9a. After checking the option in VLC for http remote (as the website explains), I restarted VLC on my iPhone and it recognized my computer, and I was able to connect to VLC immediately. I've already got two other remotes working (for iTunes and Keynote), so I'm not sure if this has any affect or not. My only concern is that there's no "pairing" involved in the setup. The remotes for iTunes and Keynote will give you a 4-digit number on the iPhone for you to type into the application on the computer (or was it the other way around?) so that you can prove that you have access to both. With this, though, if my neighbor also installed it, she'd be able to browse my file system and cause movie files to start playing on my computer. It'd be a great joke to play on someone though (you could make their laptop to play an embarrassing movie during a presentation, for example).
Awesome app! By: Armenin2001 - Apr 26, 2009 Version: 2.0 Alright, trust me guys this app works on Vusta (installed on 04/25/09). For all those people that are on Vista and couldn't get it to work please stop using computers. The installation file on their site DOES ALL THE WORK FOR YOU IN VISTA. YOU HAVE TO GRANT PERMISSION TO THE APP IF YOU ARE USING A FIREWALL APP. This is common sense stuff guys seriously. Works great, a little graphical lag but that's iPhones fault. I'm sure all of us spent a $1 on crap that is not nearly as useful as this app. Don't trust people that don't know crap about pcs about this app. If you use Vlc you need this app.
Outstanding app! By: Kreme_Mac - Jan 3, 2009 Version: 1.1 Not only does this do everything the free version does, but it also supports VLC's Media Library and playlist, allowing you to find any video or sound file in your VLC library. And, as an added bonus, it also lets you browse your computer for any media that might not be in your library or playlist. Finally I have access to all my media without having to deal with a cumbersome wireless keyboard and trying to squint at the characters on the projection screen. Best of all, it controls all my computers, so I can hop from one machine to another to another. Best $2 I've spent. The free version is very good as well, but doesn't give you access to browsing, playlists, or the media library. Works just fine as a remote though.
Works on a Mac By: susielin - Dec 14, 2008 Version: 1.0 Definitely a long time coming. This app works well on my laptop and just what I've been wanting for when I watch movies from my bed.
Follow directions!! There is a link on the help page. Follow the directions and the app will be up and running in less than 15 mins. I would definitely reccomend this for people who often watch movies off the computer and hate getting up to make volume adjustments or pause a movie.
FANTASTIC software! By: MrKeithF - 22-Jul-2009 Version: 3.0 After trying the FREE version of VLC Remote i was so impressed on how easy it was to setup and use. The WHOLE process worked first go without my restarting either iPhone or Computers. Having all my movies stored on a NAS and another computer, i bought the FULL version of this software. Again, this was double click and it just worked. The way it should. :) I also tested this while on 3G through the iPhones VPN. I connected home via VPN, waited about 10 seconds, Clicked onto VLC Remote and up came all my computers with VLC running, Navigated to the "External Drives" and played the movie. I can now remotely play any of my media from my iPhone, from ANYWHERE! I now use this as a SECURITY device, People think im at home even though im not! Well worth a couple of dollars!
GREAT app. By: bamhm182 - Oct 25, 2009 Version: 3.5 I've recently been watching a lot of anime and other TV shows through VLC. This program hasn't left my side for a minute of the action. Not only can you COMPLETELY control everything to do with your current video, you can also create playlists from files ANYWHERE that your computer can access. This is by far one of the most useful apps on my iPod and I don't know how I got by without it for so long. If you use VLC for watching videos, this app is a MUST have. I haven't regreted buying it for a moment.

Upgraded By: JesterThump - 25-Sep-2009 Version: 3.01 I used the lite version of this daily and didn't see much point in upgrading as it did everything I needed. Then I saw it was capable of accessing files remotely on my network an was sceptical but decided to buy and try. Not only can it access browse my entire network, it runs a lot faster than the lite version (I guess because it no longer has to connect for the adverts) and is much more responsive. I use it daily. Excellent.

Wonderful application! By: SimonWind - 16-Oct-2009 Version: 3.5 After trying the free version I was so impressed that I quickly went and bought the full version, the extra features are so worth it. This application does everything you would want a VLC remote to do, I am very happy with my purchase. The only thing I can think of that would make this application even better is if Hobbyist Software and VLC somehow found a way to transmit the sound wirelessly to you ipod/iphone so that you could listen to your music/movie through your headphones rather than the need for speakers connected to your computer. That would be truly awesome! To conclude, I would recommend this application to anyone who uses VLC and is sick of always having to move from your comfortable bed or sofa to stop, pause and play your music and movies :D
Awesome, must-have app. By: Stevland Ambrose - 15-Oct-2009 Version: 3.5 It is a pleasure to use software that just works-- quickly, stabily, and as advertised. The interface is also really nice. I bought the app (over the free version) for the ability to load files on my PC/Mac into VLC playlists. It can be a little challenging to navigate around the Windows file system with this app. One nice addition would be to display the names of Windows file shares... so that drives would read "D: Music" rather than just "D:". Another oversight is the ability to bookmark various folders to a list of favorites. I am giving this app 5 stars, however, as it works very well, and I am extremely impressed. I am so pleased that I've made VLC the default media player on all of my computers. Now, if only VLC itself were not so fugly! And all of the skins I've tried for VLC are cumbersome and buggy. In a perfect world, Hobbyist Software would also create a skin for VLC that resembles and works as well as this app! But, alas, I've given the developer enough homework already. Highly recommended.
Smart Concept Needs More Polish By: SirOlivetti - 21-Apr-2009 Version: 2.0 Be wary of other posters who can't do set up! They berate a stellar app. The set up is a bit unnerving but with a little patience I managed to follow the web instructions to get everything synched. The controls could be better spaced for the big fingered, especially the volume and forward/rewind. It's overall layout was improved to better match VLC's attractive design. I look forward to future updates, well done!

this app works great now. By: rage against the machine 24-7 - 5-Feb-2009 Version: 2.0 i had reviewed the previous version as: "if you have bought all the other apps on the app store and still want to blow 99 cents, and dont mind an app that does nothing but start and crash, this is the app for you." version 2.0 changed all that. i have waited patiently and have been rewarded, as of version 2.0 this app now does all it claims to. the setup seems a little tedious at first but after you get one computer to work, it takes seconds for you to get others working and overall well worth it. one thing, when you are doing the editing in wordpad make sure you open word pad as admin (right click, "run as admin" or it wont save for you. thanks to the author for updating this app often, and regularly until it worked properly. this is now one of my favorite apps.
Pretty good app By: Eiovas - 20-Jan-2009 Version: 1.4 This app makes a good remote. But the playlist could use a few features. Some of my playlists include directory information in the titles, the playlists don't handle long title names. My playlist was unreadable. Also an option to sort the playlists by criteria like title or length would be helpful. Without these features I find myself using the mouse more than this app.
It's a cool remote, I hope more revisions are in the works.
Get it ! By: Markybailey - 03-May-2009 Version: 2.1 This is a great app. We all know vlc plays virtually every type of file (as opposed to both QuickTime and windows) so having a remote makes real sense.
It has a great interface is easy to use , quick to set up, doesn't break and just works well!
Another great feature is displaying a history of recently played files. Also looking for files is easy
I use my mac mini as a media centre under my sofa so thanks to this app no longer really need my mouse of keyboard when playing media. It works seamlessly.
Great app By: Chronicfathead - 30-Apr-2009 Version: 2.1 I had the free app for about an hour, that convinced me to buy the app.
When I'm sat on the sofa, I don't want to go to the media pc to find a film, I want to do it sat down. The ability to force full screen is also fantastic.
For those that say you can do all this from the web interface of VLC, do you actually use it? Didn't think so! This app is low cost, skinnable and in my short experience, stable.
I have contacted the developer a few times with info/suggestions, and they contacted me straight away. Good company, great app.
Give them your support.
Very nice By: ascen - 10-Mar-2009 Version: 2.0 I was planning to create a similar app but when loking at this I know I wouldn't be able to beat it! Oh well! Deserves 5 star because it works perfectly. Got it working straight away from a Linux vlc server (though it doesn't work 100% when I click a button to find /). File browsing and full screen are very good. Would like it to handle host:port in hostname just to handle when I have the vlc http interface on a different port (for example using it via NAT outside of my home network). But these small gripes are specific to me and not useful for almost anyone else. Interface is nice and themes are great too. Also tried it on my mac and windows machines without trouble. Other peoples difficulties are probably with their in-experience with vlc, networking, firewalls and following the authors instructions. Well worth paying for this full version with file browsing ability. Cheers, not often I come across a program that I know I'll use for a very long time.
Good but could do better By: truespin - 16-Dec-2008 Version: 1.1 I've been waiting since the iPhone launch for an App like this - and it does exactly as described :) However, the interface is UGLY, the pairing needs some work (like automatically connecting to one of your favourites..?) and the file browser doesn't seem to be able to follow folder alias'. That said the actual functionality seems to be good. The 1.1 update also seems to have fixed the crashing bug I was struggling with last week, so I have hopes that this app will improve with time :)
