Great piece of software and I know that there isn't a book out there that will guide you on using this calculator . Wrong answer there is a solution and a book that is 400 pages for the real estate agent and real estate broker. Its called "Professional Real Estate Problem Solving Using the HP-12C by John A. This is an excellent simulation of the original HP 12C, with features not in the original (such as viewing all registers). I haven't tried any of the others so I can't offer a comparison, but I have been completely satisfied by this one from RLM software since I first purchased it. And the price is right! Try out their lite version to see if you do also. The primary difference is that the Lite does not save register values between uses, and the Full does.

I reviewed version 1.1 of this app last week and found a serious bug and a few minor annoyances. I just download version 1.1.1 and am pleased to report that the developer has fixed the bug (and several others that I was not aware of) and has done a nice job of improving the appearance of the logo and start-up screen. Also, the keyclick on/off function is now clearly labeled. This app now deserves five stars - well done!
One item remains on my wishlist:
1) Change the keyclick sound to a subdued "click" like the one Apple uses in their apps. The current "plink" sound is just too darn cute - sounds like a game app rather than a serious tool. Yes, I know I can turn it off, but in the absence of any tactile feedback (damn touchscreens!) audible feedback is essential in providing assurance that your keypresses are being entered correctly. With the sound turned off I find that I regularly drop digits when entering values unless I divert more of my focus to pressing keys rather than the calculation at hand. If you've ever owned an older HP calculator then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about - once you've used it awhile you find yourself entering numbers without having to look at the keypad.
As of 10-2-08 there is still no support provided for this product on RLM's website, so I hope the developer is OK with customers using the App Store's "customer review" feature to post bug reports. Doesn't bother me.

RLM's 12C is great. I've been using the "real" 12C since I started my MBA in 1982, and I still use it. I've been checking calculations against this version, and the accuracy is great. One thing they updated in this program that was very important to me was to make the "keys" silent. I don't like a business application that makes gratuitous sounds (which this one did), and now I can turn off the sounds. The one thing I wish they'd change: the awful logo on the calculator. The logo detracts from my enjoyment of the calculator. Fortunately it does not appear in vertical mode. I recommend RLM's 12C for the iPhone highly, and I hope they port some of their other models to the iPhone. I'd love to have a 15C on the iPhone.

R.L.M. has done it again with its latest release 3.0; improved upon an already great, reliable app. 12C Classic does not just emulate our favorite financial calculator but takes advantage of the iPhone environment. For example, one can copy and paste displayed results. Many settings can be customized to fit individual preferences like sound, orientation, and display controls. I still have my old HP-12C, but now it is second choice to 12C Classic on my iPhone.

I loved the Lite version - so I knew I would be buying this one. The additional features, such as the ability to rotate the screen, memory retention and memory contents list, make it worth paying for. Obviously clever marketing using the Lite (Demo) version as a teaser; but the upside is that the Lite version may be quite adequate for many people.
(Wish I hadn't bought Calculator 12 - which is twice the price, has half the features, and is full of bugs!)

I used to have the lite version when it as free. I think now that bug have been fixed (in particular memory display and keyboard reactivity) it is well worth the price. Also, the great improvement of being able to load/save programs adds up to it.Suggestions for further improvements:- possibility to extend the programming memory to more than the original 12C allowed it- character visualization for programs (a bit like in the user docs)- allowing "non-RPN" mode for people born after 1980 ;-p (I was born way before that...). With this small " infidelity" (that means reshuffling the keyboard for "()"), it will look more like later versions of HP financial calculators and increase potential customer base.PS: after I wrote this review, the Platinum version appeared miraculously... But I won't pay the price twice. Shame it is not free for classic owners (as prices are similar)

Updated review: Bug fixes really improve on the original release

My original review gave only three stars and suggested that the free version actually seemed better at the time unless one really needed the continuous memory.
In the weeks that have followed RLM has really been prompt with improving on this release. The touch pad is much improved, and new attractive features have been added, including the the ability to save and recall program memory into separate files.
On top of it all, the free version is no longer free, and has been hobbled in some ways.
This is now well worth the price for fans of the original calculator, especially given that RLM is tossing in their desktop simulator for free--itself a 16 buck value.
Along with the several other excellent HP calc simulators in the AppStore (e.g., i41cxp and the various Voyageur simulators by Tom Fors), this is "must have" for anyone who loves vintage HP RPN computing. RLM really deserves a lot of credit for prompt attention to bugs and rapid turnaround time--Ricardo has always replied to me promptly whenever I have had questions and concerns.

Need to fix the [R/S] key as it does not work properly in program mode when a program is set to run an endless loop. Pressing the key should stop the program and pressing it again should restart it where it left off. As an example, try running and stopping using the [R/S] key a program that increments the content of memory 1 by 1 using the following key sequence [RCL] [1] [1] [+] [STO] [1] [g] [PSE] [g] [GTO] [0] [1]

Landscape function keys

As a 12C fanatic I used every RPN calculator in AppStore. This one is simply the best. Portrait mode is brilliant. Some cosmetic improvements :
1) Key clicks are awfull, I would prefer classic 12C key click sound.
2) The colorful RLM Software logo on the top right corner has to go, please !!!

this app is perfect with its landscape and portrait modes. i actually find myself using the portrait mode much more than landscape. also allows you to view the stack, financial, memory, and program registers. who can ask for more?
as for the annoying key click sounds, you can disable them completely. well worth the money.

I previously posted a negative report of bugs in the key mapping. As I said in my earlier review, this is the most useful app I own, and I am pleased to report that the developer has corrected the problem in a very timely fashion. Works perfectly now! Thanks very much.
