Reviews:
The Only iPhone Market App You Need. By: MikeF315 - Apr 17, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 ***** Right out of the box this app is fantastic. My first reaction was to wonder what are they going to do to improve it? The importing of portfolios, watch lists, high quality charts, all just excellent. The bonus of the data and news refresh is fantastic. Aside: Have you ever sat at Starbucks and kept losing your wifi connection because you were idle? No more with this - Everything is so well done, simple and intuitive. I couldn't wait to get Bloomberg after looking at the iPhone 'Stocks', but that has proved disappointing with it's slow retrieval, and worse, those headlines not in chronological order. This is the killer market app for the iPhone. Kudos and thank you !
Killer app! By: superpixel99 - Apr 17, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Amazing. Everything about this app works wonderfully, and being able to keep it synced with my AOL portfolio is just awesome. The chart tools are great, with the ability to zoom and easily scan through your charts. Plus, you can set several watchlists, which is cool. I like the fact that it stores some data locally, so if you are without a network connection (for the iPod touch users especially) you can at least see something -- oh and it doesn't crash if it can't find a connection, it just warns you and you can get on with life. I found this app to be superior to the competition, and I can't believe it is free. Real time quotes AND finance news? Bingo.
Best app there is By: Waterfronttrader - Jul 15, 2009 Version: 1.2 The previous review said empty but I don't know why. This is the only finance app that has everything. It's great for premarket news, it has extended hours info, earning dates, charts, dividend date. The only thing I would like to see is avg volume. It has daily volume. Def the most important financial app for me. I use portfolio love for my portfolio management. I'm not sure what the previous review was talking about.
The best app for keeping up with stocks. By: killerz99 - Jul 7, 2009 Version: 1.2 Its clear, simple, and fast. Has real time quotes and timely links to news. Also charting. I use it everyday over TheStreet.com, Yahoo, CNN money, Thompson Reuters, and CBS marketplace. The only app it cannot beat is E-Trade mobile.. because its integrated with trading, plus E-Trade has options quotes AND charting.. But, without an active E-Trade account, you can't get the real time quotes.. and Daily Finance has more diverse news sources. So I actually use them both.
Awsome App By: Sir Sifter - May 7, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I love this app, there are some things it cant do, multiple lots you can put in but you have multiple charts for however many lots. But who cares, serious traders are stupid trading from a phone anyway. They probably go to their brokerage site to place a trade.
As an investor for long only positions this is a great app to set up the portfolio and multiple watch lists to quickly scan the charts.
I also like the details function, end of day, dividends, volume, and on the charts its nice to see volume on any given day.
I have portfolio live ! junk unless your at a wifi area, way too slow
I have bloomberg ! Love it but get more of whats important from this app
Have every app for stock market analysis and this is the best for quick analysis and news
Pretty darn nicely done & unexpected! Looks very promising... By: cSticks - May 4, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I haven't actually had time to REALLY dive into this app yet, but I did to through the main parts for about 10 minutes and my first impression was that it felt pretty well polished and thought-through app overall.
I don't have an eTrade account or any of the other nice and integrated apps that some companies have put out, unfortunately. I use Bank of America for trading...and from their horrible "mobile banking" "app" (quoted because it is ridiculous and basically just a badly framed webview of a barely iPhone-sized-screen-optimized webpage. Heck at least on mine, when viewing my transactions, it doesn't even fit correctly on the page or let me even scroll over to see what's hidden)....long story short; and off-topic here (sorry)...BofA is obviously competely incompetent due to the lack of updates vs the time and sheer size of the company. Basically l think it's obvious that they (BofA) just wanted to be able to have an iPhone "app" and be able to say, "Yes BofA fully supports the iPhone blah blah."
BACK TO *THIS* APP'S REVIEW...
Sorry again to go so off-topic there, but sometimes the best way to explain and review something is to show what it is *NOT* (thankfully!), and what it does better with...
So:
With my short test and run-through of THIS app --- I was surprisingly quite impressed thus far. The default apple stock app is obviously not very fulfilling for people that do much more than look at a few funds and such. For that, it works, but if you want any additional data (like news or much better charting, etc.) in an all-inclusive app; Apple's stock app falls short *very* fast (although it's still a nice clean way to very quickly check out the overall market conditions.
My other comparison is the free Bloomberg app; which up until this morning, was my personal favorite and main stock app (and again, I think doing comparisons is the best type of review that I can do at this stage, hopefully it makes sense to er...someone...at least somewhat :)
So yes, I'm going to keep the Bloomberg app for a bit until I see which one of these fits my needs better. After which, maybe I can come back and add a real, fully-tested, and actually useful review (...and, I hope, one that makes a bit more sense LOL).
MY CONCLUSIONS ABOUT *THIS* APP :-) ...
As I said before, it feels polished overall; seems to be quick and responsive; and provides a good wealth of useful information, news, charts (I ESPECIALLY liked the nicely done and definitely useful double-tap [I think enabled it] data analysis type pinpoint feature...I'm referring to the thing when viewing a chart/graph, that you can tap on a specific point/section of the curve, and it can give details, etc. Um...just look and try and you'll know what I mean - as you can tell, I'm not the best explainer in the room :-)
And I can already tell that there's much more to explore, I'm excited to do so!
All in all, my whole point of this lengthy scatter-brained review was to say that I see a LOT of potential with this app; and it already looks like it covers the major bases. I'd definitely like to congratulate the developer(s) on an app very well done!
Plus, the price can't be beat, and lastly - this is only the FIRST public release. I can't wait to see where they take it in future updates, but I'm fairly sure it will continue to be an excellent app of it's kind!
Once again, I wanted to thank the developers for all of their (obvious) hard work and attention to the details.
THANKS!
The best, free stock market app By: Seven7 - Apr 21, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I am quite shocked at how good this app is, considering its AOL that makes it. However, the app does not disappoint. It offers very good charts for different time periods, maxing out at 5 years, and contrary to belief, they do have real-time quotes when you check individual stocks. However, that leads me to the only downfall. When you open up your investment portfolio where your stocks are, it does not give you the real-time quotes for your stocks on that window. It only shows you your total gains/losses on the stocks and it doesn't give you the quote for that minute so you have to open each stock individually to check its current stock price. It'd be nice if AOL added a quote tab next to each stock with a % gain/loss for the day so we don't waste too much time opening up each stock at a time; it is time consuming and hence I give it 4 stars and not 5. Other than that, the news and charts section are flawless and this app is nearly perfect.
Everything is great EXCEPT By: Sunneit - Apr 18, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 the charting feature, which is too basic to be useful, not to say "professional grade" as claimed. For the chart feature to be taken seriously, at least the following need to be added: 1) enable chart type customization (ie. barchart, candlestick, etc) w/ option to choose/customize color scheme; 2) allow user to configure up to 3 moving averages; 3) allow user to set up up to 2 lower indicators (MACD histogram and lines, stochastics, etc); 4) allow zoom in/out via fingure gesture; and 5) increase the intraday chart period from single day to 20 days. Other than chart, this app simply rocks. Thanks for a job well done.
Very good quality app By: unwoken - 18-Aug-2009 Version: 1.2 I am a portfolio manager and rate this app highly. Very nice. "My Stocks" area should be more customisable however. A minor point, but it's very annoying to have to re-sort columns to the preferred view every single time I open the app. I should be able to have % change as my default view for watchlists and portfolios - likewise company name rather than symbol. Switching back every time I open the thing is pointless and a pain. Please do the same for portfolio view. Quotes from more countries (Australia please) would also be very much appreciated in a future update if at all possible
Shockingly good for AOL!! By: CyrusG72 - Aug 30, 2009 Version: 1.2 I'm amazed by the quality of this app. The chart book feature, with volume, crosshairs is great. Devs need to add pinch and spread capability like Bloomberg. Breadth of news sources also not bad. I don't like the web call outs for the news, but I can live with it.
Bloomberg devs please check this out and take some bloody notes, will ya? The only reason I also have BB is for it's news coverage of the economy and markets which as everyone knows is unrivaled from the view of professional investors/traders.
But from a retail consumer perspective, this app is way under rated.
Wishlist:
1. Please take a look at bigcharts.com and add some basic scans like new highs and new lows.
2. In your gained and losers allow us to see the ladder with the names of the issues not just the tickers just like in the watchlists.
3. Allow for sortability in the scans by $, %, name.....allow for grouping by sector, industry.
4. Some basic technicals in the chart book like MACD, RSI, Bollinger Bands, Stochastics, moving averages ...
5. Set alerts on watchlists for price/volume triggers and enable push notifications! This feature alone I think is worth $1 esp if it's based on real time quotes including pre and post mkts.
6. Commodity chartbook with perpetuals. Partner up with commoditycharts.com if u have to.
7. Add a screener, even a basic one
8. Partner with stockcharts.com and grab those free community developed chart books. Not high priority.
9. Improve the depth of the basic profile view on issues. Currently it's pretty thin.

Nice work! By: SiiickBraH - May 3, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Great app and very knowledgeable. Awesome for the everyday trader type. However, the transaction tracker is more complicated than needs to be when using and requires a lot if clicks ti get to. Also, you can only add funds and stocks. You can't sell them? I personally request short sales and covers too. And since were making wish lists can you make a paper trading platform integraded to the transaction tracking with full trade options LOL. Seriously though, simplifying and perfecting the tracker would be awesome. Thanks!
Good not great. By: straight-up-hooptie - Apr 23, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Just got this app, seems better than Bloomberg by virtue of its ability to track stocks in real time. Still a little rough around the edges though (i.e. can't re-arrange order of portfolio or watch list stocks and doesn't let you view your portfolio stocks by default). Integrated brokerage app with the ability to buy/sell would be better, if your broker makes an app get that. For all of the rest of us, such as the Scottrade users, this will have to do for now.
Oh Snap! By: C. Bess - Apr 23, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I'm really impressed. Was this suppose to be free or did you click the wrong button during submission to the App Store? Its a market price app, then flip it to portrait mode and its now a full blown market charting app! What can you do for 2.0; have it make trades for me or start my car?!
Awsome By: Alex2643 - Apr 23, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Does what it says.
Great app!! By: Bnicks22 - Apr 23, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Best app for today's market including real time. Worth paying for even more worth it for free!
Nicely done By: Motbob - Apr 22, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 5 stars- best app of it's kind so far
Great app. Nice work. By: Toes on the Nose - Apr 22, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Works as advertised. Very fast and quite easy.
The best app for stocks By: Pxarm - Apr 22, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I have got all the stock apps by far this is the best one!! I'd pay 4 it
Better Than Bloomie By: Neumuzik - Apr 22, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Awesome functionality from an AOL app. Beats everything else I've used so far... now if Schwab would just take notes and come out with something half as good.
