I have used this now for a year and it has been a lifesaver. In the past, I tried using a notebook but it would get left in another vehicle as I use 2 cars, but I always have my phone with me. The mileage log is quick and easy and has made it simple to track every mile for every kind of trip. The new "quick trip" feature is a real time saver.Unlike another review, I found that it does backup the data in iTunes as I had to do a complete restore and it was all there. I contacted tech support about this and they suggested what to do. I reported back that the restore process worked for me and they said they would note it on the website.I've recommended this to several people and will continue to do so.

This 1.5 update is simply great. I have tried almost every mileage app in the app store, and Milebug has been my favourite since the start: no clutter, clean UI, a good balance between basic functionality and configurability, flexible unit settings so usable in Europa, smooth export to Excel and Numbers, never crashes (VERY important for an app like this).There were a few things on my wish list and with this update all of that has been taken care of. So with this update MileBug has come to full maturity. Many thanx to the developer, who's been working on improvements at a steady pace.

As a self-employed individual, every work-related trip I take is a tax writeoff. I used to keep track of mileage on paper, and then enter it into a spreadsheet, but I was often behind in entering data or forgot to include every trip. However, MileBug has changed all of that. Since I always have my iPod touch with me, MileBug is always with me too. It's quick to access, and simple to use, so I find myself with the most accurate reporting I've ever had. That means MORE legitimate mileage writeoffs than ever! And reports are a piece of cake. I simply email one to myself and provide a copy to my CPA for tax season; the information is IRS compliant. MileBug is an incredible application!

Version 1.3 adds yet more features that make this app essential to my business. Being able to set both the origin and the destination of each trip means no longer editing reports to include this info. Super app! My comments on previous version: I have a small e-tail business and this app is perfect for tracking mileage for my trips to the Post Office, buy supplies, and to scout new inventory. The reports are emailed flawlessly, with no data loss, and are saved in my own Excel spreadsheet. Milebug beats a paper mileage log by miles!!!!!

Once I figured out how to rearrange the destinations and purposes, I went from liking the program to loving it! As a Realtor, I am always going somewhere. This program makes it extremely easy to track my miles for tax purposes. Prior to finding this application, I was always hunting for a scrap piece of paper in the truck. Not the best method. Then, I stumbled onto this one. I tried the free version, which is the same but you can only enter 10 entries. I decided to try some of the other apps before paying the fee. I quickly deleted the others as they required too much time and effort to enter the information. This one keeps all the previous entries and the last odometer reading. It literally takes me about 5 seconds to create a new entry and 5 more to enter the ending milage. In addition to the ease of use, I was extremely impressed with the quick response to my email when I needed help. Quality product with quality support! Definitely worth the price!!

I use Milebug everyday on the job. This tool has virtually forced my employer to pay for my car payments. Milebug is easy to use its quick and the spreadsheets produced are comprehensive enough to turn in as is for mileage reimbursement. The automatic time stamp feature also provides a valuable method for determining my onsite time with each client.
This program has saved me countless hours of work.

Love it and it keep getting better.

I tried the free version first and was hooked (even after trying other titles). Provides all the info I need for tax purposes. I driver multiple vehicles for multiple businesses and it tracks everything great. The most recent update included "origin" which is great. It also lists the date and time automatically when you start an entry. The update I really want is for the program to record an ending date/time for my trip!!!!! Great program, buy with confidence.

I really like this App. Had been looking for a simple mileage app, and this one turns out to be perfect. Easy to use, easy to enter data, and the developers are great about updates, current mileage rates, etc. Probably the most interesting endorsement came when I went in with my accountant to go through yearly taxes for 2008. (I had started using MileageBug late in the year. My accountant is a former IRS agent.) I showed him the mileage report print out, and his comment was, "Let's just hope the IRS doesn't hear about this. They'll want this kind of detail from everyone." This app is a winner... simple, and apparently very effective!

MileBug is a suitable replacement for the mileage logger I used on my Palm. I'm not interested in gas mileage, maintenance reminders, or other fluff. I need to submit mileage reports to my employer monthly. MileBug does that, and the developer was very responsive to my suggestions. The only minor irritation for me is that the reports presume that expenses are "deductions," and the reports themselves are a little over-thought. (They produce a Word table that includes merged fields.) I'd prefer a simpler report that can be customized more easily. I also have every confidence that suggesting this to the developer will produce changes, so I can recommend this application without reservation.

Milebug is a great app and worth every penny! It is easy to use, intuitive, and allows customization and support for multiple businesses, vehicles, etc.One bug I found (and can't find an email dev on their blog), is when creating multi-line notes, it looks messed up. There is the oval box where the text goes, then with multi-line, there is a square white box that overlays the oval one for line 2+, which looks tacky and buggy.

Finally figured out how to rearrange the presets: Go into Presets/Then Businesses/Then select your business/Then select Destinations. There you can grab an established destination and move it up or down in the list. Before I figured this out it was frustrating to scroll way down to select my starting location on every trip which was almost always the same. Now it's on the top of my list.
GPS to keep track of milage would be nice but I know it is impractical at this time. You would have to keep Milebug running constantly through the whole trip without interruption for it to work.

Great app. Use it daily but I do have a very small wish list. Wish I could set a future date. Like if I know I am taking a trip in a couple days I wanna be able to set it all up except for the mileage part so that the indecator on the icon reminds me that I wanted to track it. As of right now I make it say midnight and change it when time comes. More work in the log run but it keeps me reminded! Would also love if it had a reminder alarm. These 2 things and it would be a  app. Thanks.

cheaper and easier than paper log books

$3 is less than I paid for the paper milage log books that I needed for my 3 cars.
For those who think that the milage entry is cumbersome: it might seem so on the first use, but since the program remembers the prior reading for each car, it's not hard at all for incremental updates.
Just a single email-able summary instead of getting all three paper log books to the copy machine each month is worth it.
4 stars instead of 5 because all the info in the "Lite" version had to be reentered into the full one.

Before I bought this app, I tried to track my mileage on paper and failed! I always have my iPod touch with me so this makes it simple for me to keep an accurate log. No problems with the app so far. I purchased the app at the previous price but I would pay the current price for it. If you consider the amount of money you can deduct from your taxes if you travel for your business even a couple of times a week, this is worth the price. The only complaint I have is that when I enter my mileage, the app often defaults to the starting mileage even though I already entered it prior to my trip; otherwise, great application.

Many of the previous reviews are spot on. How can we contact the author? Will there be updates?
I do like this app, I'd been using Notes to record my mileage. I looked at all of the other trip loggers, and this one's screen looked nice and uncluttered.
One feature I'd like to see is the odometer wheel "remembering" your last entered mileage. This would make each successive trip entry much less cumbersome. Alternatively, the option of a numeric keypad instead of the wheel would be nice.
Also, under presets, or options, it would be cool if the mileage "price" was customizable. The IRS seems to change it once or twice a year. I know I can simply import the nicely formatted report into Numbers, and change the value myself, but hey, that's another unnecessary step.
All in all, a very nice app. I am very happy.

Great program - does the job - but It's not obvious how to delete individual trips. The only option when you view the trips in a list is to delete them all. But there is a way to do it, which I found in the developer's blog. You open the individual trip, then scroll down off the bottom of the page. That's where you'll find the Delete Trip button.. I hope future updates will let you do that from the list view, but until then, that's how to do it.

For those of you who think its cumbersome to enter actual odometer readings and think you dont need it in an IRS edit, you are clueless. Good luck with that since your mileage means SQUAT without having your starting and stopping odometer readings....you think the IRS takes your "reported final mileage" at face value?? think again, without your start and stop readings, you are S.O.L.
Developers pay no attention (as I know you will knowing the facts) to those who request taking out odometer readings...they obviously have never had to run a business. good app. keep up the great work.

This is really a great tool to help me track my business miles. I use my vehicle for three different businesses and this will greatly simplify the mileage expense breakdown between the businesses. I am ecstatic to know that I will no longer have to manually transfer the miles to a spreadsheet to calculate mileage reimbursement totals.
A Personal category is a really important feature that needs to be added. I use my vehicle for both business and personal and it would be great to have a Personal category to calculate the business usage percentage come year-end. Mileage rate adjustments would be great as well. The report summary should also breakdown totals by mileage rate when the report period covers different rates (as it will in 2008 with the Jan - Jun rate being different from the Jul - Dec rate).
Word of caution - the reports will not work if you have an ampersand (&) in your business name.

This really is an outstanding mileage tracking application. It's easy to use, beautifully designed, and minimizes the amount of information you need to enter each time you use it. But it is missing a couple of points, which might be important to some people:
There is no ability to set kilometers instead of miles. While this isn't a big deal, because you can just interpret the "miles" to be km, it is annoying for those outside the USA.
You can't edit the IRS mileage "value." Different countries have different amounts that they can claim for mileage, and employers often use a different value amount than the IRS does. When compounded with the fact that the mileage is shown in miles rather than kilometers, this makes the "value" amount shown rather useless for a lot of people.
It really needs a "Personal" category in addition to business, charity and medical. People who are self employed and using their personal vehicle can choose the "percentage of total miles" tax approach rather than just business miles. Under this system, the tax department needs to see total miles with your business miles to calculate a percentage. Without a "Personal" category this becomes awkward.
The only other issue is that the developer has no feedback or support information on his website, so it is impossible to contact him, even for feature requests. It would be nice if there was information on the site for support contact.

This works well, and looks and feels good. There's a few mileage logs available, I need one to record travel for tax purposes and this is almost perfect. Only two complaints / suggestions. First I could do with having a start location as well as a destination. Second, this automatically calculates a monetary value to your trip, but only according to USA IRS rates. I don't happen to live in the USA, so this feature is useless to me - needs customisable rates. Both these thigs coming soon apparently.
