Good thing Quicken (Intuit) bought out Mint By: GMoney71 - Sep 25, 2009 Version: 1.2 I am using Mint/Chase through my I phone and have not used Quicken since. However, I am still not at the point to trust a third party with my brokerage and 401K information. That is just my personal comfort point with such a new company. I am an extremely happy Mint user. Would gladly pay a monthly fee for Mint. The fact that it is free is a no brainer for folks wanting to budget their finances.
One of the best iPhone apps. Period. By: cmeerdo - Sep 25, 2009 Version: 1.2 BACK TO FIVE STARS!!!!Thank you mint for the update!!! Wow!! Gave us everything we were hoping for! Thanks for listening! This app rulez!!!-------------------------------------------This app is now on my home/front page of apps on my phone. Setup is safe and secure and accounts can be added quickly. All my accounts were available, even my little local community bank, paypal, student loans and green mutual funds. Gives you the complete picture of your finances. The best application for the current state of U$A, and all of our poor souls revisiting ramen noodle diets...UPDATE IDEAS:Things I'd like to see in a future version:-ability to split a credit card with another person ie allow 50% rule.-transactions allowed to be labled for all similar transactions-graphs and pie charts-importing of historical data (pre mint account)
A complete solution for my finances By: Vinsmed - Jul 14, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Pros:
1. Updates the transaction as soon as it is updated on the financial institution site.
2. No need to manually enter the expenses. They are all automatically synced to the mint.com where all your finance info is present. This for me is a big plus as I stopped using the other budget apps I purchased simply because I forgot to add it on time or was just too lazy.
3. It automatically categorizes my expenses. You could train it if it misses on the right category. You could also create your own categories.
4. With YNAB (a pro-budget software) I have finally nailed down my budgeting and tracking expenses.
5. You can create monthly budget and it will track your expense against it. At one glance I could tell this month I spend a lot on my car repairs (which could not be helped) and overspend in my restaurant category (need to carry the brown bag more often). So the app does what I need it to do.
Cons:
1. Cannot use the app to fix the category. This small addition would make it a powerful app for all needs.
2. The app does not always update itself for current transactions. This is easily solved by quickly logging on to their website account (I use the iPhone for this).
Final remarks:
I have tried several budgeting apps here but most of them needs to input expenses manually. Mint app saves a great amount of time here. Realistically there is never going to be a solution out there that will meet all my needs, but despite the cons listed above, this little app does everything that I find important.
Best personal finance app bar none By: Sners - Dec 28, 2008 Version: 1.0 I'm getting sick of people complaining about how they can't access their ING accounts. That may be a reflection more on how ING does not play well with third party integrators. Anyway...
This app is almost perfect. It's attractive, responsive, and convenient. I also think it is one of the best 'Web 2.0 ported to iPhone apps' out there.
Now, if I could just pay my bills through Mint, I would seriously consider paying them a monthly fee.
Right the first time By: Whittty - Dec 20, 2008 Version: 1.0 Mint.com seems to be really focused on releasing new features that are well-thought-out and well executed, as opposed to just rushing to get them out the door. This app is no exception. For a long time, many mint/iPhone users have requested that an iPhone app be added to the lineup, and what happened? After a reasonable wait, we get not a web app, or worse, an app with an embedded safari control that just displays a website, but a full iPhone app, and an extremely attractive, useful one at that. Sure it could use a few more whiz-bangs, and it doesn't fully emulate the website, but it does enough to make it the most useful banking app in the store, and it does it EXTREMELY well. And if you're not a user of mint yet, what have you been waiting for? This is only the smallest reason you should go sign up now.
Fixed everything! By: dmjunkie - Sep 23, 2009 Version: 1.2 I loved mint.com on the web, but found the iPhone app barely useful. Every little gripe I had has been fixed in version 1.2 - passcode, editable transactions, & others I wasn't even expecting (real time push notifications). I haven't tested that last feature yet (hopefully won't have to), but everything works great so far. No noticable bugs or crashes with the application. It looks the developers really hit a homerun with 1.2
Incredible By: MadPhysicist - Dec 28, 2008 Version: 1.0 This app sets the bar for all other budget apps, on or off the iPhone. It does everything I need and more, and because it works by automatically downloading and reading my statements, I hardly have to lift a finger. Without any effort on my part all my expenses are automatically categorized and organized into easy to read charts and graphs. This app is so good, it prompted me to write my first ever review. To anyone who hates budgeting, I can not recommend this app enough.
A fine addition to a great service By: jrb207 - Dec 20, 2008 Version: 1.0 I joined Mint in early 2008 and the website was good, but lacking in some important features. When I checked in again this fall I was amazed at how many of them had been added and now they have added a great iPhone app too. The crew at Mint has made great strides in a very short time - all the website features I felt Mint was missing have been added and all the information that I need on the go is now available in their iPhone app. One key feature is that the account information is automatically updated when I log in to the iPhone app without having to login on the website. Other similar services lack this key function and I was happy to see my information updated right on my iPhone while I was on the road, away from my office computer. The Mint app has worked flawlessly for me and I find the features to be very complete for a first release. I think the expectations of some reviewers are a bit unrealistic. Compared to most apps in any category this first effort deserves rave reviews. What other comparable financial service has an iPhone app that comes even close to what Mint has achieved? Not one. If this is v.1.0 I am excited to see what might be next. I think a good addition to the next release would be adding cash expenses on the go. Nice job Mint. Bravo.
Wonderful App! By: Jacob Wilsher - Jul 2, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Great app! Would love to see a few updates.
Want to be able to do more customizing in the app, like take away budgets and loan info.
Also would like to have an option to hide certain accounts directly on the phone, temporarily to see interest baring vs no interest cards.
Also ability to arrange credit cards how I want to see them, title, ammount, urgancy.
One more! I want to see a calender in the app to tell me when each bill is due. Even better to link it to my iPhone callender.
Overall very easy to use and operate.
Potentially make a pro version where you can edit everything. I'd buy it!
Great work guys!!! By: Gandalf White - Dec 20, 2008 Version: 1.0 I've been using Mint for the past few months and found it to be extremely useful in tracking my spending habits. I love the SMS alerts too - it helps me pay bills on time, and keep tabs on fraudulent activity. About the Mint iPhone app:
The app's interface is clutter-free, and seems to be good for a quick check. It will replace my bookmark to mint.com A few suggestions: 1. Dedicated App logon password - Not everyone "enjoys" typing password for using their phone, and as a result many don't enable password on their iPhone. It would be great, if Mint app had a "Google Android" style non-keyboard password screen. 2. I already pay for credit monitoring. If Mint could integrate this feature, I would love to pay a monthly fee. 3. Schedule bill payments from Mint.

Best iPhone Personal Finance App Available By: CPA Guy - Dec 20, 2008 Version: 1.0 What I love:
(1) Amazingly simple UI.
(2) Nearly as much info available as on their *FREE* regular web browser version.
(3) Can monitor budgets / spending, cash assets vs. o/s expenses, invetments, credit card / online bill pay / ATM transaction detail.
(4) Can see what types of expenses eat up the most of your money (e.g. shopping, movies, etc.) or which merchants you spend the most money at (e.g. Target, NetFlix, etc.).
It's basically the full "readable" version of Mint's web version in your iPhone!
I only have a few requests as they improve this app in the future:
(1) Add graphs / pie charts to show comparative spending breakdown similar to the "Trends" tab online. Just a relatively simple version would work -- no need for anything fancy. It'd be a nice piece of info to see. Could have an option to see 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, or All.
(2) Would be nice to edit budgets directly from the iPhone.
(3) Would be nice to edit transaction details from the phone.
I'm sure I'll habe more suggestions going forward, but that's all I've had time to think about at this point (...I've only really used the app for about 5 min at this point). But, I will say that this app will be a mainstay on my first iPhone page from this point forward. Goodbye, Pageonce...
Once again, Mint has simplified my life by offering unmatchable personal money management software!
I'd say only 4 stars because there can still be some improvements made, but overall, it's currently the best available -- by far -- and it's one of the best first version app attempts I've seen to date! So, it gets 5 stars in my book.
Keep up the great work!
Best Regards,
Dave Sawyer, CPA
Now passcode protected! By: weekendHacker - Sep 20, 2009 Version: 1.2 So I went to another app from a well-known vendor only for their passcode feature and lived with their lack of mobile refresh...until now!!! With Mint's obviously superior implementation (why else would Intuit purchase them? They didn't have *that* many customers) I'm back for good. Please Intuit, just rename Mint and keep their awesome features...or better yet, don't even rename, and just promote Intuit Mint as the best Web 2.0 finance app in the world!
Mint.com - Everything Quicken Can't Be! By: PBXBear - Dec 28, 2008 Version: 1.0 Watch the video for mint.com - and how the creators really tired to address everything that Quicken hasn't been able to do. Mint.com is refreshing and effective for money management for most people. It's free, clean, and accurate. It is also the ONLY application where I've been able to connect EVERY account I have - even some smaller, unknown banks. It's has some growth that is necessary. But it's amazing. The iPhone application is what you would expect from them at Mint.com - clean and refreshing.
SuperSatisfied246952684687 By: A464279745863 - Jun 26, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 This thing is great! I'm tied to Quicken for my major stuff, so only wanted a viewer to see acct balances and transactions on my spending accts. It's crazy easy to set up and updates quickly. I don't know where the comments about having to login to the web version to get updates or them taking days to come through came from...I ate lunch today about noon and about 3pm there was already a pending transaction. It doesn't allow inputs, but so what? It's also safe as hell, since there's no acct info stored on your phone.
Faceman5050 loves mint.com By: faceman5050 - Feb 12, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 If you can get past the setup and user interface you too will love this program! I love the fact that you can have muti bank accounts linked into mint, find out how much you have in each account without calling your bank teller. Works across state lines so you can know when a payrole check is deposited or when a withdraw for your AT&T phone bill is taken out. You will even know what time your stolen check card was used and where before the bank notifies you!!! The best free app I've ever used!!!
Excellent Money Management By: SalsaAqua - Jan 8, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I signed up for an account and it has literally changed my money spending habits. My New Year resolution is to get on a strict budget and this is just the tool I needed. I can imagine that there are many others out there who are starting to tighten their belts this year. Mint.com is a great way to stay on top of your spending. The only thing I would like to see is some kind of keypad password entry when you open the app. I don't like how you have to sign in and out to keep your financial information secret. It would be much easier just to type in a pin and have full access. Other than that, I have no gripes.
If you love streamlining and simplifying... By: A guy that likes stuff that works - Jun 25, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 ...you are going to love this. I had downloaded it months ago but just yesterday got it up and running after reading a review from Kevin Kelly on Cool Tools that motivated me to give it a try. It is better than I had imagined. The comprehensive transaction list across all accounts alone is worth the work of setting it up. Yes, the banks were trickier to get working than the credit accounts, but after consulting the forums was able to get even ING to work. This is going to change how I track and manage our finances.
Finally! By: Alf! - Sep 19, 2009 Version: 1.2 Update: They've finally updated the app! Now my accounts actually update when I check it. Everything else about the app is slick and useful, the newest update finally brings around editable transactions, fixes the lag problems, and some additional security. It took awhile but they got it right. Good job!--------------------------------------------------The updating issue is frustrating. And I'm not referring to it's inability to be instantaneous, I get that it can't post information that hasn't actually cleared the bank or credit cards. What I don't get is why it has these lags with updating the info my bank/credit card actually DOES have posted. And it's solely an app problem. I'll check my app and see that I have a few accounts that show last update as 6 hours ago, 9 hours ago, 1 day ago (?!?), even though the home page reads that all recent transactions have been updated. Now, when I go to the actual website mint.com all my accounts update no problem. After that, when I check my iphone app THEN all my accounts actually update. So 3 stars for being a slick looking app with a good idea that works well IF you're using it with the website. But I'd like to see the app update the info as well as the website does, all on it's own (that's the whole purpose of the app afterall isn't it?).Also agree with previous reviews, would like to be able to edit transactions from within the app.
Mint.com is wonderful By: thiacomo - Jun 23, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Mint.com was new to me but I quickly added it as soon as I got my new iPhone because it had very good ratings from others. Sure enough, I'm very happy with it. Not only is it a great tool at home for managing accounts, but it gives you updates and warnings on your iPhone, too...and it lets you know when a payment is coming up on a due date. I've been waiting on a tax refund from the IRS - it notified me that a large deposit had been made to our checking account. No fees, either. You've got nothing to lose and a bunch to gain with this particular app!
Slow to sync is expected By: JW223 - Feb 8, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 To those indicating a delay in syncing on iPhone:
I have noticed that it can take a few minutes to update my account information when accessing the online site. The trouble with the iPhone app is that when you open the app or hit the refresh button, the icon stops spinning after a few seconds leading you to believe that the "updates" have been made. I believe that the iPhone sync takes just as long as it does online but the icon leads you to think otherwise. Try hitting the refresh button and then waiting a few minutes and then hitting it again and the updated info should be there, works for me.
Developers: please add funtionality to iPhone app similar to what we see online. E.g. After the update button is clicked online it shows the sync progress for each account, setting expectations appropriately.
