I must say at first I was weary about this application. I thought to myself "I'm not an idiot, I can figure out the percentage of the tip". I decided to buy it only because my balance was $6.66, call me supersticious, but of all numbers why 666? After buying it, I instantly saw what a freekin great tool this can be. You can choose the amount of people that are splitting the bill, you can choose what percentage your server deserves giving you the breakdown each person owes. I now realize 15% is higher than I thought it was.
I am not one to regularly write reviews, but this one deserves it. Carlos, who ever you are, and where ever you may be, keep up the good work!!

I am assuming those of you who complain about not knowing the tip total have been using the multi-person function. Why don't you just check the total as if there was only one person paying it? That will give you the total...The app is fine. I got it when it was free and am surprised it costs money now. I don't think I'd pay for a tip app. But if you are inclined to do so, there is nothing wrong with this app. Aside from the tax suggestions, most of the complaints on here are user error.

Benefits To You:
Every person I know who has an iPod Touch or iPhone simply loves this app (including me). I don't know too many people who like trying to figure out a tip when the bill arrives. I hear a lot of, "How much do I leave? Does this look like enough?"
1) Instantly get the total bill and the tip amount painlessly and accurately.
2) If you're in a group situation, it gives the price each person owes on the bill. No more worrying about enough being contributed to the bill.
3) Very user friendly and easy to use.
If you're still on the fence to buy this for about the price of a pack of gum, do it, you will not be disappointed!
Customer Service:
You can have the best app on the planet, but if you don't care about your customers and responding to them, this would be a huge deterrent for me. Carlos "gets it", and has treated me like I'm his #1 priority when I've e-mailed in.
Mirror Feature:

From Free to Paid:
I think this was a fair strategy. You'll gain a larger user base and receive more feedback if the item is "free" v.s. "paid." More feedback also means a better app for all of us. In the case of investing a lot of time writing this app, and it being a success, he should be rewarded.
A considerable amount of money was spent on your device (iPod Touch or iPhone), plus a case possibly, and then valueable time to negatively review the app because of a $0.99 price tag...? He's also been fair to the users who downloaded the app for free. Future updates remain free.
Again, I don't know too many people who like figuring out the tip at a restaurant. The mirror feature could get your money back and then some. Consider the $0.99 well worth it in the long run.

I got this app when it was free, and am now surprised to see it for $1. Not that the price is bad. It's actually fair. But what struck me is funny is that a major shortcoming of the free version is fixed in the paid version: which is making both the tip and total amount in big letters. In the freebie, the total amount was in tiny letters.
So then it hit me. If you're a developer, you should initially release your app as free... with a major shortcoming... INTENTIONALLY. That way, we get used to your app, love it, but are quite tempted to drop a dollar to fix it's obvious missing feature.

No frills, very easy to use, simple layout, many options, best tip calc on the app store!

What else needs to be said? This is the best tip calculator on the app store. It is no frills and a nice easy to figure out layout with no gimics or learning. You enter the total bill, select how many people are splitting, select the percentage or have it rounded in several ways. You can't go wrong.
Kind of liked the old icon though, there are too many blueish/grey icons apps on the app store. But not really a big deal and doesn't hurt the app at all, 5 Stars!

Great job. Update made it perfect. Best tip app I've used, and it's free. I recommend it. UPDATE: This app Is now a dollar. If you don't have the money, ignore this app and move on, stop crying about it here. Carlos, for an icon, how about some change on top of a receipt. Receipt containing the word "tip" then a space like this "$_________ ? " it would be readable and would describe this app better. Good job, keep the updates coming :D.

Clean, Simple and Convenient

Admittedly, I never thought I’d download a tip manager since I believe they’re rather lame. However, a friend of mine told me “to start saving in all areas” and that sorta stuck! Now, I’m much more aware of what I spend money on and how, etc. This App simply jumped out at me while I was surfing the App Store so I decided to let go of the .99-cents. The update that’s due out seems pretty cool and I’m certain it will save me money since I tend to tip rather heavy at times, especially if the gal is cute! Yeah, I know… but whatever. Also, the mirror feature looks nice (once I figure it out) while providing an added security measure to my anal-retentive nature, plus I’m a sucker for fun software. BTW: My 5-star rating is based on the not yet released update (multiple sharing/splits) but its stable and nice enough to trust the feature enhancement.

Great app - all the information you need in a clean, simple easy to use interface. Apple needs to make a rule that if you haven't downloaded an app you don't get to review an app. I for one am sick and tired of all the social commentary in these reviews. It's simple, if you've tried the app and it works as advertised then give it a good review if not, then rate it poorly, but I could care less what you think about the concept. If you can do the math in your head, congratulations, this isn't the app for you, but you don't have to give it a poor rating. I for one can't take a $172.75 dinner bill add 18 percent and divide by 6 in my head (sorry if that disappoints you), and I don't mind giving this guy 99 cents for a nice solution.

I prefer the dials to selecting the fields in the other tip calculator. This is one of the first apps I bought when I got the phone and I suggest you consider adding it to your collection! It's fast and easy to use and while the smaller keypad might be a deal breaker for some, I prefer the dials to select the tip %. A suggestion: some people like calculating the tip before tax, so I would suggest adding a feature that would both calculate the tip before tax and add it to the after tax total.

I snagged this back when it was free and compared it to all the other free tip apps at the time -of course now there are even more.  I don't care about them because once I tried THIS one I promptly removed all the others from my pod.  No need to compare with any future tip apps either because Carlos got it right with this one.  Excellent layout and easy to use.  All the others are clumsy in some way -or attempt to copy this one.
What is with all the socialist reviewers in this app store?  Capitalism people, things cost money.  It is a completely normal practice to give a product away to generate buzz and to get early feedback to improve the product.  The product was stellar at launch and it has been updated with more features.  The "free" tip app that is on everyone's ipod/iphones already as one reviewer noted is THIS ONE because it was free and it IS THE BEST one.  
Now Tip costs less than $1 and no adult that dropped major coin on their ipod or iphone would have a problem with that.   -the mirror feature alone could save you hundreds of dollars when you review your credit card statement.  The kiddies and socialists will no doubt be dependent on someone else their entire lives.....   so they will never experience an overcharge to their credit card while out enjoying a big meal and drinks with a large group of people.  Most people don't have the time to compare receipts with credit statements so they miss errant (or intentional) overcharges to their statement.
Excellent application and well worth $.99!

This is a great application... It works perfectly for its purpose and has a great user interface.
I particularly like the "rounded" feature that can round your tip to make the transaction to an even dollar, because its annoying to have random few cents charged to your credit card. This way you can give the exact tip you want, or round your tip easily to the nearest dollar.
Overall this application is great. Much better than any of the other tip applications.

Eye candy-ish interface and extremely easy to use. Love how it utilizes the iPhones number scroll (for tip percentage) as well as instantly giving you the tip + total immedietly. Very well thought out. ...and thank you Carlos for adding the ability to split the bill among a number of people. Lastly, any chance we can factor in tax? (The total - meal price + tip = total - does not factor in tax, and without that makes me resort to the calculator app to compute the total... bummer dude!). Any chance this can come in the next update Carlos?

Thanks so much to the developer for making such a great looking app and for making it freely available! Best tip calculator I've seen in interface and functionality. two requests that I think would make it perfect! though I wouldn't want you to clutter up the elegant interface, so it'd be a challenge.. 1) add option of entering the local tax rate and factoring that into the tip calculation - maybe through an options screen? 2) when using rounding (awesome btw) it'd be great to display what percent tip you're giving at the bottom, bc rounding can turn a 15% tip into a 22.4% tip. thanks again!

I love this app, good thing I got this while it was free but $0.99 I would gladly pay for it, cause it pays for itself+!!!
I didn't want to write a review for any app untill I actually use it.
The rounding is what I usually do and that's very nice touch, I've tried other free one and they don't round.
-The number entry is numpad so it's easy.
-The selection is iPhone style so it's easy and fast. Unlike other clunky ones.
Divide by persons needs a little getting use use when in rounding. It actually changes the total amount so that it divides in real number not in cents.
I accidentally made profit when paying since the bill + tip = $38 but after I sign and then select 4 people it changes to $40 so even $10 each.
This app just made me $2 richer!!! lol

Tip has a very clean and easy to understand interface, and also the best interface for this type of program. Entering the bill’s total $$ on a calculator keypad is the quickest way, while entering the tip % and number of people to split it with on the sliding “wheels” makes perfect sense as this is the quickest way to do these entries. Perfect UI.
This ap isn’t free, but definitely worth a buck and is better than any of the free applications I’ve tried and better than one other tip calculator I bought.

As a person with a disability, I have tried several of these types of applications, and the one provided by Carlos is by FAR the easiest, most thought out application I have found and used. Many others are clumsy and, frankly, not well designed, and Tip has been set up so that it can be easily worked by even those of us who may otherwise have problems punching a lot of numbers or trying to split checks. The scroll option really helps.
In fact, we had a large group dine out at a restaurant which had a policy that added a mandatory 18% to the bill. I pulled out my Tip app and when I checked, just for giggles, low and behold, they had added 22%. Needless to say, I was able to determine the percentage by simply "tuning the dial" until I found out the actual percentage the wait staff had rung us up at. THAT, my friends, is worth the price of the app by itself.

This app is very easy to use. In my opinion it is by far the best out of all of the tip calculators therefore you shouldn't mind paying $0.99 cents for it. It has a very nice interface and an easy to use number pad for entering digits. It has a wide range of tip percentages, as well as the ability to split the tip/bill into multiple bills for larger parties. Also after calculating the bill it gives you 3 options you can have the exact total, rounded total, or mirrored total. Everything is displayed nicely and well organized. All in all awesome app for the price. Highly recommend it if you are going to buy a tip calculator.
