I'm writing in appreciation. No complaints, no glitches to report. I do think it's funny when the AI is in a pinch or has it's mind made up to take a particular strategic piece, the three repetitious stalemate road is often taken, but hey, it's free (and I guess a compliment). So thanks for the app. I've played more chess since I've downloaded this app than I have in my entire life, combined.

Rotation

So I'm sitting across from my dad at e restaurant and want to play chess with him. I can, but you have to completely rotate the iPhone for the next person to play. So on the advertisement screen when it says "rotation option" on there, it's not really correct. You still have to rotate your device to play. Assuming your sitting across from someone, AS IN REAL CHESS! So...to the designers of this game...the next update should have an actual "rotating" function so you can play with another person sitting across from you. Thank you.

After starting playing at its default level, I thought, what the heck those guys were smoking when programmed this crap?? It would throw its pieces around like a drunken monkey... Then I went to its setup and moved the level slider about two thirds the way, and man, it did become a contender alright. Actually so much so that I couldn't beat it again. And also plays really fast for the level (pretty high). So I consider it a really good chess application (although if you're a power aficionado or a pro, you may want to bump the level a little bit more)

good version. good graphics. only draw back I see is the opposing computer needs a shot timer clock (set to 1 minute). I have seen the computer take up to 7 minutes to make its move, i have also seen it just run down time on me to prevent me from getting it in checkmate (one move away no possibility of opponent escape). If I put the total game time set to a half hour, my culminative time played making moves is around 8-10 minutes. The computers culminative time is around 25 minutes.(computer set to maximum difficulty level).
maybe Im just better than the computer but it gets boring to wait that long when you are staring at the space the computer is going to move to for 2-4 minutes on average. it REALLY needs a 1 minute shot clock.

As a very experienced player, I think this game is OK.
When you set it to max level, it's quite actually playable.
It also DOES know quite theory in main lines, (but doesn't know like major alternatives...e.g. Taimanov Sicilian 5.Nc3 Qc7 6.Be2 a6 7.f4 Nxd4) such as it played precise theory in the Ruy Lopez Closed Chigorin.
The only thing that it seems to lack is positional playing...Not very good. But it does spot tactics.

Really good chess app. I like the feel of it despite the rather annoying noise every time you move a piece. (thankfully you can turn this sound off!) Plenty of settings are adjustable such as A.I. difficulty = helpful! The advertisements are discreet and are not annoying at all if you consider they keep the game free. The reason it gets only  is because there is currently no wi-fi 2 player functionality. If this ability for 2 people on different iPhones to play each other was added it would be perfect... Upcoming update?

Was able to barely beat the top level but I am rated close to 2000. I like how the wide range of levels go from really bad to decent. I wish that the levels were numbered. I don't like the chess piece graphics at all. The pieces look too much alike. tChess has much better graphics and better engine, but you can't beat the price.

As one reviewer already said, it would be nice if it wasn't timed. Still, I only started playing chess again because this was free. :) To the reviewer who said that the pawns were making illegal moves, check out Wiki's listing on En passant.
