Reviews:
Essential iPad purchase By: tony_darkangel - 09-Dec-2010 Version: 1.0 Waited up until midnight to get this the minute it hit the app store in the UK... Infinity Blade along with Rage are two games that showcase the phenomenal rise of iDevice gaming and my early impressions of this title do not disappoint.Whilst this uses the Unreal Engine as seen in Epic Citadel, this is not a free roaming adventure, but a test of timing and skill against mega opponents. You want a game to show off just how good your iPad is.. Start downloading.
A Substantive Leap By: Rorxiss - Version: In many ways, Infinity Blade represents the future of iOS gaming. The graphics and sound are second to none, the responsiveness of the controls is incredibly nuanced and perfect on a touchscreen (there are gameplay mechanics that would be nearly impossible to translate into another control method), and the gameplay experience is addictive without being overly shallow or boring. The game lends itself to both 5 minute throw downs and 5 hour marathons. If you pick it up expecting a deep RPG with a wide world to explore, you will be disappointed. If you can manage to remember that Epic Citadel was a tech demo only tangentially related to Infinite Sword and look at the game on its own merits, it really shines. The combat system starts easy and rapidly increases in difficulty. Every enemy you fight (and this is primarily a fighting game) is essentially a boss, and the RPG bits come into play between the stellar fights against procedurally generated enemies as you move along a branching path to the ruthlessly difficult God King. There is an impressive variety of fully-modeled weapons and armor to collect and master through the game's novel XP mechanic, and this will consume a majority of the RPG within the game. The combat system rewards speed and skill, though this is not immediately apparent. While it is possible to slog through by simply blocking and dodging opponents attacks before randomly slashing your opponents, utilizing the much more difficult parry and riposting with large combos is much more rewarding, not to mention more effective. Late-game parries must be exact; anything but a perfectly timed and directed match of your opponents strike will fail.Although you can "beat" the game, you can keep playing it seemingly indefinitely (the "Infinite" part of the title) until there's nothing left to do. I'm still saving cash for that very last sword. Even then, the enemies will continue to level alongside you, getting harder through every play through, or "Bloodline." If ChAIR delivers on the free content updates (and there's no reason to think otherwise) this game will only continue to improve upon an already stellar and paradigm shifting base. Infinity Blade is the new standard by which touchscreen gaming will be measured, and the bar is incredibly high.Like Rage HD, this game is best played on the most recent hardware; if you want the best, most recent games, you need the best, most recent hardware. Backwards compatibility is great up to the point where it hinders substantial progress like this game. If you can't run it on your hardware, keep it until you upgrade; it will be just as impressive then as it is now.
Repetitive... But you'll love it! By: edznyc - Version: Fantastic industry leading graphics aside, this game stands on it's own with it's well thought out and executed combat system (which can seem to either cheat, or lag when battles get furious and fast... Maybe this will be addressed via updates). The depth and replayability comes from mastering a timing and strategy during fights, and from the RPG elements in the game as well. There is a decent amount of items you can loot or purchase, and there is a very basic, but effective character attributes and skills system. The UI for managing all this leaves lots to be desired, but that's a nitpick as there aren't enough items currently to make this a problem. The fact that the basic premise is dead simple, the entire "level" of the game (of which there is only one, really) is quite short and basically has you going through it over and over, albeit with slightly varied and higher level enemies each time (and there are only a handful of enemy models, that get reskinned based on their abilities)... Yet you can find yourself playing bloodline after bloodline (repetition of the game with higher level enemies) is testament that EPIC/Chair have combined gorgeous graphics, great gameplay, some RPG "leveling" and inventory upgrade depth masterfully in a $6 mobile game like no other.
Come on people By: X Kyle X - 21-Dec-2010 Version: 1.1 So just because you can pay for gold, makes this game 1 star. Sure it's slightly retarded but why would any person in the right mind pay $1.00 for 25,000 gold? You can make that in seconds when your playing the game. Besides this is a single player game so it's not like someone has an advantage over you when you play. The game is still great and I've already bought all the most expensive items for each set of equipment so that right there tells you that the in game gold purchasing isn't necessary. I kinda know where you guys are coming from but it doesn't bring the game down to 1 star.
There are games that change a generation By: BigCanzz - 12-Dec-2010 Version: 1.0 And Infinity Blade will do this not just for iphone or touch games but handheld gaming in general. Infinity Blade holds it's own both in visuals and gameplay against the best the DS and PSP have to offer.Make no mistake about it, this game has set the bench mark for all future iphone games both visually and touch gameplay wise. That's not to say it doesn't have its faults: After getting used to the combat system it will take you no longer then 10-15 minutes to run through the game, I wish it had been a bit longer and had a less linear path selection
To short By: Cap. Redd - Version: My only complaint is how short it is. Took me about 5 or 10 minutes o beat it the first time. Thought there would be alot more to the story and thing to do. But the fighting the rpg elements are all great. Not worth 6 bucks to me though maybe when theres more content it will be worth 6. Other then the short story and not much replay unless you just wanna level the game ia probably one of the best ive played on ipod
Amazing graphics! Addictive as well By: Edgar J. - Version: The graphics are ridiculous, they really killed it with their new unreal engine. It's really unreal. Theres plenty of upgradable gear & mastery of said gear ... = great replay value. The way the game works is interesting, you go through "bloodlines" meaning you're gonna fight a lot of people at the beginning but when u reach the last guy, he kills you because he's like level 50 and you start off at 1. I would predict I would have to go through 5-6 blood lines to defeat the boss with mastered equipment. Only drawback is that you fight the same characters throughout the bloodlines. Controls take some getting use to, it's finally nice to not have a virtual joystick. Highly recommended, makes me wish I didn't buy Rage HD an hour before this came out :-/
Unbelieveable By: The stig13654 - 10-Dec-2010 Version: 1.0 Well what can i say its amazing, easily making my top 3 apps maybe even the best. The variety it gives you is incredible and the graphics are like none ive ever seen before. Now many of you are probably debating if its worth £ 3.50 and if i had to tell you i would say i would pay £6.00+ for this does that help to make your decision? Now for improvements, well the only one i can think of is that it gets slightly repetative doing bloodline after bloodline after bloodline but if you say your making an update with new areas to conquer then this improvement will be made.Truely brilliant :D
=D By: Cobalt Chaos - Dec 21, 2010 Version: 1.0 This game is awesome!!! I got addicted as soon as I got it lol only thing, it needs that update they referred to in the "coming soon" section cuz I'm only level 40, I've mastered every weapon, shield, helmet, armor, and ring available, including the infinity blade which means I can't level up anymore. Sure it doesn't matter cuz I can kill everything in just a few hits lol but that's not the point. I've fought the God King so many times I don't even get hit when I fight him anymore so I'm kinda bored lol update please ^_^
You Pick By: John Mecca - Version: Amazing, astonishing, astounding, breathtaking, daring, dazzling, dramatic, eye-catching, fabulous, fantastic, grand, histrionic, magnificent, marked, marvelous, miraculous, prodigious, razzle-dazzle,remarkable, sensational, splendid, staggering, striking, stunning, stupendous, theatrical, thrilling, wondrous. In my opinion all of these word describe this phenomenon. Download it now and you pick which word suits it best! U won't be disappointed with this purchase!
Best ever!!! By: Report a Concern - Version: Just shows what can be achieved on your idevice, the only downside is the price! It's very expensive for such a small game! Should be better value once the multiplayer feature is added! Graphics- 5/5Sound- 5/5Value- 4/5You won't regret spending your hard earned cash for this game I promise! Get it now and show the creator and publisher more support! This really is the future of mobile gaming!! ENJOY.
Very good By: Report a Concern - Version: What a great game, one of the only games I keep coming back to on my iPad. Visually, the game has no equal, I love the control system although i was disappointed that you are so restricted, I was expecting freedom that was shown on the citadel app that uses the same unreal engine. The only other problem is the storyline is very repetitive, but that is no reason to not download the game, it's well worth the price. Now all we need is a game that has uses the same engine with a storyline and gameplay to match the final fantasy series and people will flock to buy it! Well done to the developers!
It's repetitive. It's repetitive. It's repetitive. By: davidelder11 - Version: THIS GAME IS SOOOO GOOD I LOVE IT BUTA. it's soo g-d repetitive. Dear lord.B. Yeah it's really repetitive. I'm not kidding. The thing is my fellow iTunes customers, I fear the next update will be much more of the same bs over and over. Which is frustrating. Because I am on bloodline 7 and for those of you on bloodline 2, let me tell you this: IT'S THE SAME THING. but hey it looks like a console-quality game, probably better, runs like a dream on 64gb 3rd gen, and the controls are great. Just please come with more expansion on the terrain, I don't care about more weapons or armor. PLZ. Thanks chair & epic, keep up the good work bros.
"Infinitely" Phenomenal By: The Ploogle - Version: This game focuses on two things: swordplay and graphics. It excels at both of these to such a degree that I'm almost unsure of how to react; this game is quite simply a masterpiece from every angle. The learning curve is perfect. The premise is clever. The controls themselves are nearly spotless: the only time I had issues was when I accidentally tapped off-screen for dodges. This game singlehandedly trumps every other game on the iPhone combined. $6? That's practically GIVING it away! If you have a compatible device, you owe it to yourself and the developers to purchase the game with all due haste.May your swords swing true.
Amazing Game! Buy it now :) By: 123Karel321 - Dec-2010 Version: 11 This game is so awesome!!! It's as addictive as games on my xbox 360! It's full of intense action scenes and stunning graphics. I have an iPhone 3G, IPhone 4 as well as an iPad and the game runs perfectly smooth crystal clear on my iPhone 4 and iPad. The story line is a tad weak, but I'm sure it will be improved soon. I do really like the leveling up system for your character and your gear. Even after beating the game and getting all achievements I still find myself playing this game more then another game I have, so awesome. And I'm sure you will make the game longer in the future update! Looking forward to updates and other games you create.
Best Game Ever!!! By: Dreric98 - Version: Infinity blade is the best game I ever played on the ipad. It is fun, it kills time(one day I played for 1 1/2 hours, and I didn't even know it) and its stunning graphics make this a worthy game for everyone. Although this game is VERY repetitive, they do it well. The story is, your father tries to kill the god king, but fails and is slain by him instead, so you come in and try to avenge your father 's death as you fight different types of enemies with different levels to reach the god king. On your way to the god king, there are different paths to reach him and treasures you can find such as potions, or money which you could use to buy different swords, shields helmets etc. When you reach him, you may get killed, so then your son comes and tries to avenge your death, and it goes on and on and on. The only problem with this game, is that at each bloodline, everyone says the same thing, the monsters aren't any different, and the world around you is all the same, even after 100 years. But these are small issues to a game that is perfect. This game is worth WAYYYY more than $5.99, so buy it now before they jack up the price.
It's a very good game. By: Blunderboot - Version: This is punch out on the iPhone, with a bit of rpg elements with stat distribution and gear mastery. Just like punch out, you dodge or block attacks while identifying the combat patterns for an opening or waiting for a weak spot to open and hitting the area for a stab attack. The enemies have a few types that besides look, differ in speed, power and indicators of where to dodge. The models are reused, with there being 4-5 types of common enemies, and a boss and pre-boss models that are the same for each replay. They also differ based on gear, where they might have abilities to poison, elemental defense and offense, as well as shield breakers. You can beat the game with the first attempt, as dodging prevents all damage, thus letting you beat any level of opponent if you perfect the dodging. The magic part seemed a bit too strong, with me being able to hack a quarter of an enemies life with a single lightning bolt or restore full life with a heal. Because of this and life stealing gear, health potions become useless. The leveling depends on damage dealt, speed and a few other details. You are restored to full health upon leveling, contributing to health potions becoming obsolete. You also get bonus xp for each attack dealt during the bonus seconds after you defeat you foe and attempt to finish them off. Each win has a fatality like cut scene you cannot control, which effect depends on the location. If there is a ledge, you will toss them over, if not, probably impale them in a couple of ways.Gear not only helps in obvious stat boosts and look change, but are crucial to leveling. Each fight gear gains levels that get distributed to you. So if you master a weapon, you will level slower as it will no longer gain xp. This encourages, yet does not force, trying new gear. This is game changing when it comes to rings, the source of your magic. Switching healing and damage magic with rings changes the way I approach the fights. Also, gear can include none combat bonuses, like xp++, gold+ and item drop+.Over all, a really fun game that I felt my progress made me better at it each play through. I did not think a game of this quality could be on a mobile device. Let's see if they can increase the scope with patches. I give it a five, as my negative do not bring down the game enough to deserve any less.
Worth every penny!! By: Glenn Lee - Dec-2010 Version: 10 A truly fantastic game! I haven't stopped playing it, even sitting at home when I have some free time and sitting at it for hours as I would a console game! That said I have nearly levelled up all the weapons, rings and other accessories in the game and guessing my character progression will soon come to a standstill as a result...hopefully the expansions promised happen sooner rather than later and add a much larger content of weaponry etc.Despite the fairly varied replay value I would like to see something a little longer/more in depth from expansions and a few more classes of enemy would be nice too as it starts to feel a little repetitive after 9+ playthroughs.(As a side note I'd also gladly pay a little extra for extra kit/areas/enemy packs in future releases if the quality stays as good as the app has established.)Quality game and experience. ;) Thank you for pushing the envelope!!
Awesome Application! Must Buy! By: Brandinio - 09-Dec-2010 Version: 1.0 What a surprise that the best RPG game ever made for iOS Devices came out on my birthday. It made my day well. The graphics on this is amazing, even better on Retina Display! The gameplay could have been improved abit but I don't care about that. The battle system is like no ordinary system, rather than the classic Click to Attack system, it uses the touch screen to it's full potential and you swipe to attack. What a great game, and the first 15 minutes of today have been absolutely awesome. Can't wait to progress into the story =]
An awesome game well worth the cash By: mshirlaw - 12-Dec-2010 Version: 1.0 I was in two minds about purchasing this game because it is reasonably expensive compared to other games that I have bought, however, it is worth every dollar. I have become totally addicted to it and I am desperate to kill the god king. I'm on my 3rd blood line and I still can't beat him. I guess I might be less skilled than others when it comes to games but it is pretty fun trying. Am I meant to just keep completing blood lines until I kill the god king? How many people have killed him already and how long did it take you?
