Price:  $2.99

Description:

Experience the awesomeness Apple named "iPhone App of the Week," GameAndPlayer called "a work of genius," and IGN chose as the #1 overall iPhone game! Osmos is part physics-based eat-'em-up, part ambient, cosmic simulator, and part Darwinistic game of survival. This award-winning PC game has been fully redesigned for the iPhone, featuring full Retina Display support, fluid multitouch controls, lush, flowing visuals, and a chill, ambient electronic soundtrack.
Some describe Osmos as "Asteroids meets a lava-lamp," others as "Katamari meets Lunar Lander," but all have said it's a game you must experience to appreciate. Your goal is to grow by absorbing smaller motes, but to propel yourself you must eject matter behind you, causing you to shrink. From this fundamental balance, Osmos leads the player through ambient playgrounds, deep solar systems, competitive petri dishes, dense mote-fields, and more.
Features:
- Multitouch awesomeness: pinch to zoom, tap to eject mass, flick to warp time...
- Two game modes: Odyssey and Arcade. Odyssey mode is a 27-level guided tour through the Osmos Blobiverse, while Arcade mode allows you to play any level type at your choice of difficulty. (72 levels total.)
- Dynamic time-warping: slow down the flow of time to outmaneuver agile opponents; speed it up to raise the challenge
- Eight Distinct level types: Ambient, Antimatter, Solar, Sentient, Impasse, Warped Chaos, Epicycles, and Repulsor.
- Sublime electronic soundtrack by Loscil, Gas/High Skies, Julien Neto, Biosphere, and more.
- Wind your way through simple and complex solar systems; feel and use the force of Attractors and Repulsors.
- Intelligent AI: confront opponents with distinct personalities, goals and abilities similar to your own.
- Procedural content: play random versions of any level in Arcade mode.
- Thirteen lucky achievements to earn, with OpenFeint integration.
Accolades:*
- Nominated for 4 IGF awards.
- Winner of the D2D Vision award and IGN's Editor's Choice award.
- Winner of "Best in Show" and "Fun/Compelling" at IndieCade.
- Selected for the PAX 10, Spike VGAs, and more.
Reviews:
9/10, Editor’s Choice, “Magnificent. It’s hard to pinpoint a favorite feature. The clever gameplay? The atmosphere? The variety of stages? The art direction? It all comes together to make one of the best iPhone games of 2010.” -IGN
4.5/5 stars - “Whether you’re a veteran of the desktop version or a first-timer, Osmos should absolutely be your next iPhone purchase. This is an outstanding adaptation of an outstanding game. Buy it.” -Gamezebo
“This is one of those games that must really be experienced by everyone, and can now be enjoyed by iPad and iPhone owners alike.” -Touch Arcade
4.5/5 - "Osmos is as close to gaming perfection in its genre that I’ve ever played. Stunningly beautiful, Simple and engaging gameplay, Engrossing music." -Touch Reviews
5/5 - “A dreamy cosmic survival game.” -AppSmile
A - "One of the most unique and interesting games in the App Store, with graphics, music, and gameplay that all merit a high recommendation.” -iLounge
4/4, Must Have - “Remember Spore, the Will Wright creation...? Osmos is the game Wright probably meant to create: It’s quiet, thoughtful, and somehow profound... Osmos thoroughly draws you into its world with a space-age soundtrack, multitouch controls that feel practically invisible, and a visual aesthetic that lies somewhere between a Nova documentary and a lava lamp. It is a cerebral, mood-altering game. Turn down the lights, plug in some headphones, and let yourself get drawn in, it’s an unforgettable gaming experience.” -Slide To Play
Happy Osmoting!

Peaceful floating gameplay  rating of Osmos
By: Etiseekr - Sep 26, 2010
Version: 1.6.3
This game is fantastic. You really feel like you are are a free-floaty mote trying to gobble up other motes. It's so peaceful/relaxing and it has great spatial strategy. Makes you think. Do I just float at current speed to pick up that mote? Or do I expend mass to hurry up before another mote gets it?It does get harder as people say but this isn't a game where you are trying to beat a high score so you can restart. No score.

I can and have spent hours on this game. Totally relaxing, calming, yet intriguing enough to keep me going, wanting to accomplish more. For those who say it's not for "hardcore" gamers I just have to say my gamerscore n achievements on LIVE, and trophies on PSN thoroughly exclude me from being labelled "casual." If you like button mashing n for the puter to do all the work and thinking for you, this experience is not for you.

Osmos  rating of Osmos

Osmos is an absolutely incredible game. Although it appears to be a simple eat-or-be-eaten game to the casual onlookers, there is a ton of depth to the gameplay. As the description of the app doesn't really give a good synopsis, here's a quick rundown of the game: you are an orb (called a mote by the game), and to win each level you (usually) have to become the biggest. The objectives do vary slightly, which keeps the game from getting stale. You move around by tapping behind the mote, but each tap ejects a little of you. Because of this, you can't move too fast by tapping as it will shrink you. However, one of the tricks to the gameplay is that you can speed up or slow down time by sliding your finger across the screen. Along with adjusting the speed of the music, this also allows you to either be super-precise with movement or to get somewhere in a hurry if you don't want to wait. Controlling the speed of the game lets you tailor it to your play style, be it frantic and very difficult at the highest speed or relaxing and moderately difficult at the lowest speed. As mentioned above, the adjustment of the music's speed is a very nice touch and the music itself is phenomenal. Osmos is, in my opinion, maybe the best iPhone game so far this year. I was skeptical at first about the seemingly simple and common gameplay, but the game actually is very deep and has a huge amount of content and replayability. The gameplay, music, and visuals are all fantastic. Don't let your immediate impressions fool you; Osmos is a wonderful game and you shouldn't hesitate to drop the $3 to get one of the best iPhone games around.

A long time fan of this game on the pc, I was delighted to see this come to the iTouch. A fantastic game, and an absolute steel at this price - it's easily worth double, if not more...
It's sold as being a relaxing game, and it certainly can be if you want it to, but some of the later levels can soon becomes frustratingly difficult, but thats part of the charm. Nothing is impossible, it just takes patience, thought and concentration.

Finally a GREAT GAME!  rating of Osmos
By: jannobee - Aug 25, 2010

I play a ton of games on my phone, and most only last minutes after download... occasionally some last days... but this one has been on my phone for the long haul and still draws my attention! It is addicting, thought provoking, and beautiful to play as well. I love the simplicity of the concept combined with the strategy that it takes to complete the levels. MORE LEVELS PLEASE!!! Larger levels would be great as well! The AI is well done, and the physics are very realistic. I love the soundtrack, usually I end up turning off the volume on many games, but find myself turning this one up. I like how the music changes as you change the game speed as well. Thanks for a great game, I look forward to updates!

Osmos is iPhone Gaming Gold  rating of Osmos
By: DoubleTime - Aug 21, 2010
Version: 1.6.3
Osmos is flat out gaming bliss. From its gorgeous graphics to its ethereal soundtrack to its “simple to play, hard to master” gameplay, Osmos is an addictive, enthralling experience that should not be missed.Much like the Zen Bound series, Osmos is not interested in testing your speed or ranking your performance with a score. It’s about enjoying the moment and accomplishing a task at your own pace. There are 2 game modes: Odyssey and Arcade. Only Odyssey is unlocked from the start, and it plays like a campaign mode where you must complete 27 levels in a certain order to proceed through the game. There are 72 levels available in Arcade mode, broken up into eight blocks of nine. These unlock as you complete levels in Odyssey mode. The eight blocks each have a theme, such as Repulsor (certain orbs that you must absorb will do their best to avoid contact with you), Antimatter (certain orbs will reduce your size when you touch them), and more. The game presents you with a field full of orbs of varying mesmerizing colors. The redder objects must be avoided lest you be absorbed into them and end your game. The blue objects can be absorbed into you, making you larger. As you grow, the redder objects get bluer and are also able to be absorbed. The ultimate goal is to become large enough to absorb all other objects or to absorb specific objects that are floating around the board. Some levels place you in orbit around a huge center object with a strong gravitational pull. Others smoosh you among a very crowded field of orbs, requiring precise movements to absorb blue objects and avoid the red ones until you get big enough to change their color and absorb them, too. Movements are very slow and floaty, though you can control the game speed to make things move a bit faster.Controlling your orb is quite simple, yet there is an element of strategy involved, as well. Simply tap anywhere around your orb to move. A small amount of your orb’s energy is expelled in the direction of your tap, which propels you in the opposite direction. The more you tap, the faster you move and the smaller you get. The expelled energy is then free to be reabsorbed by you or taken in by any other orb in the vicinity. You must be careful not to expel energy toward other orbs that you are trying to absorb, as you’ll cause them to grow bigger while you grow smaller, making your goal harder to achieve. It’s a clever mechanic that adds an extra element to the game. To see where you will be expelling your energy, you can pinch to zoom in or out for a better view of the board. Swipe your finger to the left or right to slow down or speed up time, or drag in either direction to control the rate of the speed change. A three-finger tap accesses the menu. It’s all very intuitive and easy to use. The controls are natural and just feel right. The graphics look amazing on my 3rd gen iPod, so I can only imagine how great they look on the iPhone 4. The orb centers remind me of galaxies with beautiful star systems revolving endlessly. The serene floaty physics are spot on and the game oozes polish and pizzazz. The soundtrack of atmospheric tracks is the perfect complement to the game and is worthy of any iPod library.Replay value is good, with plenty of levels to enjoy again and again. OpenFeint integration allows for a small achievement system. I had a blast playing through the Odyssey and I’m now enjoying playing various Arcade levels. This has quickly become one of my all-time favorites and I highly recommend it to anyone.

A Sign of Hope for Humanity  rating of Osmos
By: JohnSmith - Aug 15, 2010
Version: 1.6.2
I don't mean to come off as too bold, but this game makes me proud of humanity. This game masterfully embodies the paradoxically complex yet simple and intuitive laws of physics it uses in the game play. It can be fast finger tapping action, or slow almost meditative session of intricate maneuver decisions. Whether you like space or microbiology, this game should have some arcade style fun for you to pick up at any time. Oh, and the soundtrack may cause eargasms.Thank you for making this game!

A+++ would (and did) buy again!!!  rating of Osmos
By: smplH - Aug 6, 2010
Version: 1.6.2
I originally bought osmos during one of the steam sale weekends for $5, and it's one of the best games I've ever purchased. On the PC and Mac, the gameplay was smooth and soothing. The music is excellent. Not only is this game really satisfying to play in gorgeous high resolution on the iPhone 4, but it has truly improved on the PC and Mac version with the multitouch gestures. If you at all liked these versions, you won't be disappointed here. 

6 STARS!!!!  rating of Osmos
By: hmuach1982 - Aug 6, 2010
Version: 1.6.2
I was skeptical at first to spend the money for such a new app, but after reading the reviews I decided to dive in. I have to be honest, I'm quite glad I did. This app is surprisingly simple to get into, and it's a fun way to kill some time. It's a clever puzzle-strategy type game that has some physics involved. The graphics look great on the retina display, although the graphics are a tad basic. I recommend this app. I'm looking forward to see what the devs include to future updates.

Words fail me  rating of Osmos
By: Zunjine - 06-Aug-2010
Version: 1.6.2
Few games come so close to perfection. Angry Birds delivers silly fun with tight controls and colourful sprites; Street Fighter IV proves you can do real arcade-style beat-em-ups on a touch screen device; Aqueduct makes sliding around little tiles absorbing for hours on end; but Osmos is something else. A game that does the seemingly impossible by creating an experience that is both a magnificent work of art and a finely tuned physics based puzzle game. Words cannot do this game justice. Even the word 'game' seems out of place when talking about Osmos. Calling it a game makes it seem trivial! Like calling the ceiling of the Sistine chapel a 'painting' or the Eiffel Tower an overgrown pylon. It's true of course but it doesn't feel right to say it.Osmos is defining moment in touch screen gaming. From now on the world will be divided between those who have played it and those who haven't. Really, it's that good.

Umm...WOW!  rating of Osmos
By: Dovebar - Aug 14, 2010

This by far the most amazing game I've ever played! Ever! The graphics are stunning! When you look into the motes it's like seeing inside galaxies. It's so visually stunning! And challenging for sure! But that's what makes this game brilliant is that it makes you think. You'll want to solve each puzzle. You're learning and you don't even realize it. Osmos is a great game at an unbeatable price! Get it while it's cheap! You'll LOVE this game! I do! Heck I was even p*ssed when my battery died on me! THAT'S how awesome this game is! Buy it!

Addictive Relaxation  rating of Osmos
By: _Abaris_ - 05-Oct-2010
Version: 1.6.3
After playing the demo on my iMac I absolutely had to get this game - and on my iPhone I think it's great! The levels are short enough to play it casually, 5-10min at a time, but challenging and fun enough to go back to it again and again. Although it's challenging, after playing for perhaps 3hrs in total I haven't yet found the game to be frustrating at all (as can be the case with some puzzle games) - it is addictive relaxation!

Really really like this  rating of Osmos
By: Tracey - 02-Oct-2010

This game is one I'll play a lot. It reminds me of FLOW but has more direction. You definitely have to be in the right mood though. It's a game to enjoy and slow down with not rampage through. I feel that the controls are really intuitive. The feel of the app is well polished. And so far there are plenty of levels. I've not finished the levels yet so I'm not sure how I'll feel about replay value but I'll update when I have! But so far brilliant!

An amazing game, with surreal physics mechanics and gorgeous attention to detail. Asthetically it is mind-blowing, and the gameplay still hasn't gotten old. After finishing the "story" mode there is also the chance to go back in replay in arcade, with extra challanges and levels added in.Did I mention it looks amazing? And plays extremely well too?Definitely 5 stars. The only game I haven't regretted spending money on!

Sit back and relax with your own music as this game enthralls you into its mesmerising and relaxing gameplay. The flow of the game and overall idea behind it is something special, and I recommend that everyone grab this game while you can. There is hours of gameplay, and even once you have finished you can go back and explore arcade mode for hours upon hours. The gameplay experience of Osmos is truly unique, something which is quite special to the iPhone/iTouch.Certainly a must have.

A serene and contemplative experience  rating of Osmos
By: DomoHomo - 04-Aug-2010
Version: 1.6.2
I was concerned that this wouldn't be playable on such a small screen but I found it a retains all of the charm of it's iPad cousin. This game rewards planning, efficiency and patience. Move too slowly and you risk opponents consuming your food source before swallowing you up. Accelerate too frequently and you risk ejecting so much mass that hunter becomes the hunted. The experience left me contemplating the subtleties of game theory and Darwinian survival of the fittest.

A Perfect App  rating of Osmos
By: endless reason - Oct 10, 2010
Version: 1.6.3
Everything about this application is fantastic. The gameplay, the different levels styles, the achievement system, the story and arcade mode, and ESPECIALLY the graphics. This app has by far the most stunning visuals of any I've ever seen. This app is also difficult at some points which is good because many apps are beaten too easily and then it just takes up space. This app is specifically developed to utilize the full funtionality of the iPod/iPhone touch screen. Tapping to move, zooming in and out, speeding up and slowing down time with the slide of a finger left or right, it's great. This is definitely one of the best apps in my opinion and I love it.

The graphics for great and the game is long lasting and is a fun and challenging game at the same time.P.S. Putting your headphones on makes you get wired into it. Well thats what happened to me at least.
