Best Space Game on the iPhone  rating of The VOID
By: Keeve (Chris) - Apr 12, 2009
Version: 1.1.0
This is a VERY creative, fun and entertaining space game. First, the music is spectacular (especially in the red planet zone). The ships, weapons and equipment have enough breadth that you can mix and match a lot of different options for your ship. As you penetrate in to deeper civilizations, it gets challenging and fun. The game has a lot of depth for an iPhone app. My only wish is that by the time I complete it, there will be an expansion!!!
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my opinion, Alex, you should invest in this game with more expansions that we would gladly pay for. Anyone loving space simulations will fall in love with this neat take on dominating the universe!

Wow, a game that works...  rating of The VOID

Finnaly! A game that works on the iPhone :) I haven't bought a game since I was burnt on another game months ago... But this game is worth it all.(although I was sad that I paid full price a day before it was on sale...) I think that this game deserves oodles of awards, maybe it's because i'm a Trekkie but I love this game's design and every other flight game out there could take some tips from this.

Worth the wait  rating of The VOID

I compleeted the lite version and I asked to be notified when the full version came out. When I got that notification, I immediatly bought the full version. The upgrade copied my data over from lite to full no problem. A significant amount of content was added. The difficulty was a little high but not imposstble. Hopefully the latest patch addresses this like it says. All and all this is a nice space game with lots of options. My comendations to the programmers. Definatly worth 5 out of 5.

Best on iPhone  rating of The VOID
By: J& - Apr 6, 2009

Void is the best game I've played for the iPhone, and I've played many. The gameplay is smooth and fantastically balanced. While this balance is one of the game's greatest strengths, it is also a source of irritation. For the first half of the game, it feels almost linear, in spite of all the different planets to choose from. That is because the way the gameplay is balanced, it is very difficult to progress to new levels of a civilization's defense without upgrading your ship. For example, with the first tier of ships, you will likely only be able to beat uninhabited worlds. Once you get enough money and unlock the second tier of ships, you may be able to beat all outer rim levels, but not inner rim. You then get the third tier ship, and beat the inner rim planets, and so on in a highly predictable way. Mix things up just a little more, and the gameplay will be more exciting. Finally, I discovered that, once I acquired the force laser, (the on that knocks opponents out of range) I was able to beat difficult opponents with relative ease. Though it took VERY long for my weak ship to drain the larger ships shields/armor, the larger enemies couldn't get close enough to hit me. While a useful tactic, I was able to essentially spam this weapon throughout the rest of the game. Figure out someway to balance it out.

Excellent!!  rating of The VOID

Update: one week in and still enjoying the game very much. Other than needing to reboot my iPhone on rare occasions (which should be done anyway) I'm having NO crashing or any other issue with control. I play at my own speed, enjoying the challenge very much. I hope they are planning updates, more areas, etc. Thank you for a very enjoyable adventure! ________________ The craft control and navigation within areas of planetary gravity sinks make this exciting and fun. The key is to move slowly and practice with each new craft you acquire in areas you've already cleared. Take your time and it's far more fun. I just got it last night and already addicted. Thanks for a GREAT application! Makes me practice my physics.

This game makes the iPod more like a console  rating of The VOID

This game made a nice followthrough from the demo. I was hesitant about the backwards motion but now I can't live without it. The expensiveness of the ships and the importance of good manuevering with the right faction ship is more challenging rather then daunting. The different factions really provide unique challenges. I'm a survival game nut so I'd absolutley love a upgrade that let's you sneak up on a ship, or a mine that makes a cloud of cover or a nebula that confuses enemy ships. Or an upgrade that makes scrap that will instantly restore health. Also I cannot be the only one that wants to blow up a planet.

Easily the best game I've purchased...  rating of The VOID

This is such an awesome game, the gameplay is soooo deep and there are probably billions of combos you can come up with all the equipment, weapons, and ships. This really does not get old quick, and really the graphics are very nice. Anyone looking for a quality space shooter should consider this game. I have a couple ideas for updates though; maybe more weapons :), perhaps adding boosters on your ship too, with a fuel meter and such, with customizable booster and capacity. These are just couple extra ideas but as of now, great game!!!!

Great game!  rating of The VOID

Please make new level packs for iPhone 3.0 The game crashes a lot for me right after the level loads. Also you can get most of the big ships stuck it a planet's gravity and blow them away from a distance. I still think this is one of the best iphone games yet. I hope this game is something you are going to continue to develop and make deeper. Also, I would never pay money for a ship or wepons, however I am willing to pay for more levels to support continued development of this game.

Great Action/RPG  rating of The VOID
By: Qweasd170 - Oct 6, 2009
Version: 2.0.0
This game is definatly one of my top 5 favorite i device games, but it would be #1 if you added multiplayer. I used to play a flash MMORPG (now just RPG, no more MMO) called starfighter disputed galaxy and it was alot like this game, exept to travel sectors you moved over the borderline to the other sector and to teleport, you did a light speed warp or something. Now, the thing that made this game stick out is that each sector was it's own persistant, instanced area, but in multiplayer sectors, it wasn't instanced, with players and AI ships alike coming in. It would be intiresting to see something like that happen, maybe add an extra screen of multiplayer sectors, were they could either be user hosted or hosted by you guys. I hope you see what I'm getting at, because this is an oppurtunity to impress the players and soon-to-be players you just can't pass up!

Excellent gameplay and limitless potenial!  rating of The VOID
By: pranakhan - Mar 27, 2009
Version: 1.0.2
Excellent, excellent, excellent! That pretty much sums it up! The VOID is simple one of the best games available on the iPhone, period! I am so happy I stumbled upon this gem, as I'd been looking for some kind of quality space combat/trading game on my iPhone for some time now! It appears, after reading other reviews, that the developer genuinely cares about this game and his customers and has clearly put his heart into this title.
The only major flaw at this point is the rather annoying random crashing I'm experiencing while playing, but the developer was careful in his design so that I have never lost any game progress due to a crash. Frankly, I love this game, and the developer cares about his product, so I am willing to completely forgive the crashing bug because I have faith he'll fix it in a future release.
Now that the base gameplay is established and well polished, I think Alex Wayne should look at the amazing potential this game has! If, in future releases, he adds additional gameplay elements common to this genre then I am sure he will have an award-winning best-selling game on this platform!
So, some game play elements I would LOVE to see in a future update or new product (yes, I would pay twice and twice as much!):
1. Add some kind of basic back story and possible storyline/plot.
2. Make the universe much larger.
3. Add some economics to the game... ESPECIALLY TRADING/MINING! Adding trade into this game would take it to a whole new level of accomplishment!
4. Add some basic missions, for fame, money, special items, or advancing the plot. While I don't think escort missions would play well in this game, certainly currier, transport, trade, bounty, search and destroy, and scout missions would fit in beautifully!
5. Add star bases in some systems.
6. Don't get rid of the gravity, I think its perfect! I love to use it by luring big lumbering but highly damaging enemies into a planetary gravity well then sniping them while they float around helpless trying to get out. Of course, sometimes they DO manage to get out, then I gotta run like the wind!
Anyway, thanks for a great game, I hope you realize the awesome potential gold mine you're sitting on! Keep those new releases coming!

Hours of FUN  rating of The VOID
By: overdork - Sep 14, 2009
Version: 2.0.0
THIS GAME IS DIFFERENT. You will be playing for hours, not minutes.
Hours of gameplay as you conquer each alien system and gain more powerful ships, weapons and defensive devices for your ship.
My only complaint is the FEINT chat system launches automatically after you conquor a new system. This is very annoying and unnecessary.
Also the game tends to quit after beating a few systems. It does it if I restart before or not. Please make it more stable.

Update on last review:  rating of The VOID
By: B_Airborne - Mar 25, 2009

Old review: Hurray for void!!!!! It came out!!!!!!!! I love it!!!!!!!! Only problem I've seen so far is that it does crash rather often, but besides that, BEST GAME EVER!!!!!! If anything were to be added to this game I would suggest a bigger universe (you could move the screen around the universe), and maybe more ships and weapons. Also, an online feature (either co-op against AI or dogfighting) would be very cool. Anyway, awesome game, it gets 5 stars. GO VOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! New review: Ok, awesome game. Still 5 stars. But, once you get a high enough level ship, the game almost gets too easy. : ( Also, game keeps on crashing. Please fix. It crashed many times including when I first attacked the main planet, homeworld, of the cyber race. I was not disappointed with the game, but new updates and things like that would be nice. Yes, I know the game just came out sometime like 3-4 day ago, but in the future, please update. And, yes, it just crashes randomly. Good game again, hard but not too hard until you get good ships, then it becomes easier. More ships, more planets, and more races, please. Awesomely awesome game!!! New new review: Ok, a lot easier than expected. In the beginning there's quite a lot of a challenge, but once you get better ships, like 10,000 or highrer, it is just TOO EASY!!! Yes, I'll die ocasionally, but not as much as in the beginning. Ps. I have beaten the game. (all levels done and message appears. Anyway, online would still be cool and more places please, and make a a couple new harder races for us who have beeten the game. Still five stars because it is one of my favorite games on the itouch. I suggest this game without a doubt. Have fun!!! ^_^

One of the best games for the iphone  rating of The VOID
By: twoodhouse - Mar 24, 2009

Polished and fun game. Different configurations of weapons, equipment and ships, each with their own pro's and con's give the game a lot of replay value. Earning enough money to buy new ships takes a fair amount of time which gives you something to work for and a reason to keep playing. I'll be playing this one for awhile. I like the use of physics and gravity around planets. It adds to the challenge. Looking foward to future releases. Could this become EVE Online for the iphone? Has the potential.

Great game  rating of The VOID
By: Jmangold - Mar 24, 2009
Version: 1.0.2
The Void is by far my favorite iPhone game, but there are a few suggestions I would like to make. I now own all the 200k ships and don't have a use for money any more. So maybe an alternative way to spend some cash or something would be nice. Also I would love if there was a way to save multiple games because I started off my void lite data, I missed all the new changes in the beggining areas, but at the same time don't want to start over.

Thoughts after playing pt2  rating of The VOID
By: Yargnit - Mar 23, 2009
Version: 1.0.2
So I posted an initial review last night, but thought I would add in some more detail after playing it a bit.
Difficulty seems way up, while cash income is way down. :( Same great base gameplay as lite, but I'm running into a lot of difficulty affording ships that can compete. Finding a ship w/3 weapon slots besides the bio type race (forgot name) which is crap in every other way is proving near impossible. Even unlocking some of the 25k ships (which is hard as hell with the best ship I could bring over from lite) I am only finding them with 2 guns. With money income so drastically lowered, even having 10k stored from lite I still haven't been able to save up to 25k (And have completed just about every level I can with the lite ship), and the 10k ships really aren't much better than he 1 from lite. I also haven't seen any weapons drop that are better than what was avalible in lite.
My suggestions would be either increase $ income, or halve the price of the 10k+ ships. Also maybe making the higher weapons drop more frequently.
Grav wells around planets... OMG these are annoying. Something thats a neat concept, but causes SO much frusteration. Having almost finally finished an inner world with the lite ship, only to be dragged into a grav field full of tons of mines (which always get drawn into it) while manuvering around other ships. I'd suggest making crates guns & mines immune to grav wells so that only ships are affected, as it is now every stationary objest just congregates in one spot.
Also, still curious if I can safely delete lite without loseing my copied game?
I know most of what I posted sounded negative, but I really do love the game, they are just a few things that can make it beyond frusterating at times.
Also, still getting random crashes every few levels, although at least now you seem to have ensured that no progress is lost with a crash. Ok, another update on review after just finishing the game. (every level cleared and got completion message) Once you can save up enough $ for the $25k ship the difficulty turns around completely. With this level of ship (I used the shield reliant variety) and proper choices of weapons/equipment you can basically kite anything. (Just use a long range weapon & items that boost weapon range andbl reactor recharge) From here I saved for their $100k ship, at which point everything was easy. Finally saving up for the $200k ship was just icing to make stuff die faster. (less waiting on reactor recharge) In the end item slots seem purley about boosting your dmg output and sustainability (reactor) as once you have the $100k level ship or higher surviveability is a non-issue unless you fly through a grav-well full of mines in an inner-core or homeworld. My suggestions for the end game would be maybe to double the dmg output of both npc and player high end weapons so surviveability items matter more & both sides can kill each other faster. Right now fights between 2 $100k + ships seem to takena very long time (firing with empty reactor for quite a while) even with all items dedicated to dmg output or reactor surviveability. Crash issues, while still happening, didn't seem quite as frequent once I got the $100k ship. Coincidence or not i'm not sure. (1 in like every 8-10 sectors instead of 1 in 3 or so). Also sound wise, the Gatling gun seems to frequently get stuck in a loop. Great job once again, I can't wait to see what you add in the future.

Amazing  rating of The VOID
By: QuickRime - Mar 23, 2009
Version: 1.0.2
This game is not quite as good as EV Nova. But at 1/10th the price and sitting in the palm of your hand, "not quite" is "simply incredible." This game is one of the best. A sophisticated and challenging 2D space shooter/rpg, VOID has beautifuly detailed graphics and a simple, dynamic interface. The gameplay rewards both fast reflexes and sharp minds. Totally addicting. Now I'm done with the traditionnal critic-rant, a few (far-fetched?) suggestions/comments: a discussion forum would be great. The only thing I dislike about the game is the way the enemies just sit there and don't wander about on their own. Maybe on maps where there are two races, they could attack each other. And the greatest flight of fancy of them all: a multiplayer version, with sectors of the map being online servers to join and blow other players' ships up. Thanks for a great game!

Well done, developers.  rating of The VOID
By: RotaReview - Mar 21, 2009
Version: 1.0.2
This is an example of an iPhone game that should really set the bar for other games. So far I haven't seen a single thing wrong with this version (I haven't tested the audio getting stuck in a loop yet, though) and it's a ton of fun. It's probably as close as you can get to Escape Vrlocity on the iPhone and I absolutely love it. What I am most impressed with is how you can continue your game from the lite version. It's obvious the developer really cares about his customers and wants to make their experience as easy as possible when updating from the lite version. Other developers need to take note of this and begin to incorporate it into their games and I guarantee better ratings right away. Overall thank you very much for making something this awesome. My dream would be an Escape Velocity style MMO but that's most likely something for down the road. I will edit this review if I run into problems and outline them so they can be fixed of I come across any. Great job Devs!

Great update  rating of The VOID
By: The Samuraiphone - Mar 21, 2009
Version: 1.0.2
I've been looking forward to the release of the full version and I was very happy with how it turned out. My only issue (same issue I had with the lite version) is that the sound of the repeater loops non stop while braking and firing at the same time and continues even after I stop touching the screen. Also, I successfully had my save transfer over to the full version but it seems a bit hard for the ship and weapons I had from the lite to compete with the new enemies I encounter. Overall great app though and I recommend it to all who remember playing escape velocity back in the day. Awesome job. :)

BRAVO!!!  rating of The VOID
By: Some Random Gamer - 28-Jun-2009
Version: 1.1.0
I also started with the lite version and was taken aback by the fantastic graphics and ingenious UI. I soon upgraded to the full version and there were no regrets, the extra three sections of galaxy kept me going for ages. Graphics: 5/5 UI: 5/5 Replay Value: 5/5 Learning Slope: 4/5 What I would like to see is an online dog fight mode where players can team up in different ways (e.g Wrethk vs. Cycan) and then the teams face off with their individual combinations of weapons and equipment to see which race is the strongest. Other than that it's a fantastic game and I loved it.

Awesome Escape Velocity Homage  rating of The VOID
By: Jeremy Clarke - 16-Jun-2009
Version: 1.1.0
This game is super fun and addicitive as other reviewers have said. The controls are simple and fun but the combination of gravity and the slow pace of movement make it tricky enough to keep you interested. At first it seems kludgy but that's part of the fun as you gain skill.
If you liked Escape Velocity for mac you should definitely give this a try (the lite version at least!). There's no trading element so it's a lot simpler but I find its simplicity charming, and the guns and add-ons keep it complicated enough that you still need to pay attention to what you have armed when you attack a planet.
Great work!
