This phenomenon is called frequency following response. The concept is that if one receives a stimulus with a frequency in the range of brain waves, the predominant brain wave frequency is said to be likely to move towards the frequency of the stimulus (a process called entrainment). In addition, binaural beats have been credibly documented to relate to both spatial perception & stereo auditory recognition, and , according to the frequency following response, activation of various sites in the brain. Wow it works and it's free! By: Bronxbomber4ever - Aug 30, 2009 Version: 1.5 I work nights so I have to sleep during the day. I used to use ear plugs and a face mask. I hated the ear plugs because of the build up of earwax and they would slowly come out creating a popping sound that would wake me. I customized my own beats using the sleep beats with the creek sound. I fall asleep within minutes with no problems. I sometimes forget the face mask and don't notice because I'm deep asleep. The headache killer has worked for me as well as the study aid. Best of all it's free!
Wow. By: robot85 - 26-Aug-2009 Version: 1.6 This thing really works! I used the Dream Creation beat and I had the most vivid dreams I've ever had in my life! I could see every little detail, and I could control my dream! And to you people who are complaining about the thing in the background; that's supposed to be there! That's the whole point of the app!
I've never tried the Pre-Sleep one yet because people said they sleep walked with it. I wonder if they are true...?
Study aid to be reckoned with! By: ZeroNow - 25-Apr-2009 Version: 1.5 I discovered this at the critical time of writing my dissertation in my final year at university and just listened to the 'busy thinking' mode constantly. And it really helped me focus! I don't know if it was really working or a placebo effect, but it definately helped me focus, listening to the thunderstorms and rain showers while typing away on my keyboard all hours of the day. I think it helped that I loved thunderstorms and it felt calming and powerful. This will definately be my top priority study aid when I revise for exams next month. When i graduate and work I think I will listen to this all the time. Thank you for helping me with my studies!
Does what it says it will. By: Hthers - Mar 25, 2009 Version: 1.3 Gives a good set of preprogramed sessions as well as allowing you to create your own. You control the volume, ambience sound level and binaraul beat setting. Use it to sleep and it does the job. Tried other apps here I didn't like as much and while it does prompt you to buy another so (adware) when you first open the app, one click gets you past that and then you are not pestered again. I found in app ads much more distracting.

Great and to clear a few things up... By: BigKingC - Feb 3, 2009 Version: 1.2 I don't understand the people complaining that the background sounds create their own or distort the binaural beats. First are you seriously that stupid? Go to the settings and turn off the background noise. Second if you didn't know that was possible then you obviously haven't spent enough time with the app so that you can fully understand it and therefore aren't in any position to be rating this app. Let alone complaining about it's effectiveness or lack there of. This app is sweet. It works well and does what it says it does. Don't like a sound? Is one too loud? Go to the sound settings and lower or turn that sound off. Easy. The fact that it's free and that it actually works is awesome.
Amazing By: bendstraw7 - Nov 29, 2008 Version: 1.2 I tried the dream one last night and had an extremely vivid violent dream. It may have been scary, but hey, I got a memorable dream like I asked for. So far so good. This is amazing! I did a couple of blind tests on myself and my family telling them it was one thing and then doing something completely the opposite, they got the results the actual sound was supposed to produce 100% of the time! 5/5!

Revolutionary - amazing! By: webbhost - 02-Apr-2009 Version: 1.3 I work very random shifts, from starting at 5AM to starting at 2PM... the result? I really really oversleep and when I need to get sleep, I never can... can take upto a hour for me to get sleep. After reading an article online about methods to get sleep it mentioned an audio CD for about 20 pounds that includes binural sound. Well rather than spending £20 on a CD, I found this application and downloaded it - for free, and I have to say that I am absolutely amazed. I set my own beat using "dream creation" binural beat with calm sea and river noise added but quiet. Within using this app, 1 week down the line, I have been dropping off to sleep within 10-15 minutes of listening to it. Also changed 1 or 2 other things (super relaxing myself, and not "trying" to goto sleep, just instead enjoying the comfort (i guess a form of meditation?) Not only that, I am also clearly remembering dreams that I have - every night - which is very new. To put it in a few words, im now sleeping well, dreaming well, im less stressed and starting to enjoy my work more... A******* of an app.
So Effective. By: Dearmat23 - 10-Mar-2009 Version: 1.3 I'd have never believed an iPhone app could relieve migraines, enhance creativity and induce deep meditative states.
Having suffered with migraines all my adult life I can't tell you what a releaf Binaural Beats provides. I've tried many remedies and none of them have had these results, and most weren't free either!
A small request would be to change finctionality so that session lengths can be determined at the outset before the tones begin.
Don't let this niggle put you off a really life enhancing little piece of technology though.

Great By: Bazby's Gel - 16-Jan-2009 Version: 1.2 Become my night time app of choice! Love that I can use the binaural beat and ambient noise to customize tracks. Only concern is the nightmares I had after using sleep induction (probably a coincidence!)
To those querying the frequencies - do some research! 7htz is well out of hearing range, so clearly ipod willnot produce it. The binaural frequency is the difference between the frequencies played into each ear - hence the need for stereo headphones!
More than just 'binaural beats'! By: in d muppet - 23-Nov-2008 Version: 1.1 What ISN'T clearly mentioned about this app is that it lets you mix your own 2-track ambient noise (eg beach + wind / rain + campfire) with the volume levels of each how you'd like them (a 3rd binaural beat track can be added too). So regardless of the bi-beat aspect, you can create your own relaxing/sleep soundtrack loop and even set a countdown timer for it! Maybe future updates could capitalise on this aspect of the app more - perhaps the addition of ambient instruments etc? Nevertheless, when compared to specific 'sleepy' apps - even those you pay for - this one is considerably more compact AND more customisable. Nice one!!
Great Application By: funnymachine - 06-Nov-2008 Version: 1.0 I love this app and was looking for someone to program exactly this for my company as a joint venture. I worked for 25 years in sound (as an audio programmer and engineer for Duran Duran, The Dandy Warhols etc). If you contact me through my website funnymachine.com I'll edit your audio loops for free. I also have a few ideas for the binaural beats I would like to share with you (perhaps for the next version of the app?) Best wishes, Mark.
Fantastic ! ! By: Meditator - 31-Mar-2009 Version: 1.3 This is a very useful app for so many reasons; great for going to sleep as others say but really good also for true meditaion and also put your brain in the right gear for super learning. Highly effective for visualization too. I still can't beleive it's free. Don't delay just get it and I tried the other app with so called binual beats and it was poor- I couldn't even hear the binual beats let alone adjust them. Thanks for the most useful free app I have ever seen.
Excellent... I think By: PhillipE123 - 15-Feb-2009 Version: 1.2 I got this app when it was free and thought I'd try it out then delete it, I mean it was free, I had nothing to lose.
Then I tried it for 5 min and thought, this is kind of nice, then fell asleep.
The next morning after a great nights sleep I thought. That was odd, I never fall asleep so quickly. And it's been like that for months now....
So, I think, this program is excellent but I'm sleeping so much it's hard to tell. GET IT RIGHT NOW. 5 stars.

Not too bad... By: Much too young to feel this old - Jun 16, 2009 Version: 1.5 I LOVE the customability of this program. The headache killer worked great for my pre-migraine pain. One disappointment for me so far has been the very audible loop points in several of the tracks. When you are trying to relax, those "skips" can be really disruptive. The only other thing that was slightly annoying was not being able to use any other iPhone or iPod features while using this app, although that might be intentional so that you aren't counteracting what the app is trying to do in the first place. They should just tell you if that's the case. I personally have no problem tapping through the single ad to get to my FREE app. I would pay for this app with higher quality loops.

It's nice By: Bubnick - 20-Nov-2008 Version: 1.1 Nice app but could use some improvements. -Better quality loops and sounds. -More binaurals or the ability to make your own binaurals. -The ability to sequence different binaurals, for example, half an hour of pre-sleep induction, then two hours of dream sleep, and then five hours of deep sleep would make this app great.
4/5
I'm a believer By: akasnowmaaan - Feb 22, 2009 Version: 1.3 I was skeptical at first, but this stuff really does work. I usually take a half an hour or so to fall asleep, and when I use the 'sleep' sounds, it's less than ten minutes now. Been using it for three or four weeks now. I've been alternating nights with it as a test, and the nights I don't use it it does take longer to fall asleep. I had to adjust the sounds a bit - the ocean wave sound on sleep was pretty loud by default, so I kept feeling like I was about to get splashed. I also had a lot of water dreams for the first day or two, haha. After I turned the water sound down, I could imagine I was inside a houseboat, not on the edge of a raft with my head dangling over the water.
