FAQ
Q: I don't hear any audio cues.
A: Make sure your iPhone's ringer switch is not set to Silent. It's the top switch on the left side of the iPhone. Also make sure to have music playing in the background.
Q: Do the audio cues play when the screen is locked (dark)?
A: Yes, the cues should play even if you turn off and lock the screen, but only if you have music or a playlist playing in the background. I have tested it with both iPhone OS 2.2.1 and OS 3.0, and on the original iPhone, iPhone 3G S, and the iPod touch (2nd generation), and it performs as designed, playing the cues at the appropriate times.
Q: Can you play your own music behind the cues?
A: Yes, you should start your own playlist or Nike+ workout before launching this app. The cues will play on top of your music.
Q: What if I want silence instead of music?
A: You could use a silent song, such as John Cage's 4'33", and put it on one-song repeat for the duration of the workout. Or download the silent song from the support web page.
Q: The audio cues are too loud. Can I turn them down?
A: Yes, you can select the None option for the Voice, and it will play a quieter beep instead of the siren alarm sound. The next version will include quieter versions of the male and female voices as well.
Q: What if I have problems using this app?
A: Please click on the support link below, or send an email to c25k@felttip.com. Be sure to let me know what kind of iPhone or iPod touch and OS version you are using.
Make sure to update to at least iPhone OS version 3.1 to avoid problems such as workouts being paused. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE A REVIEW BEFORE YOU CONTACT SUPPORT.

Great app  rating of Couch to 5k
By: cmslapis - Oct 19, 2009
Version: 1.0.4
I'm on week 3 and I love this app. It's simple and straightforward. The cues are great, and it even has a different colored screens depending on whether you are running or walking. It's really motivating to be able to track your progress, and it's invaluable having the iphone tell you when to start and stop instead of worrying about checking the time repeatedly, or making sure you are counting intervals correctly. The only oddity I discovered (which upon re-reading this site, they explain) is that if you do not play music or a podcast, then don't lock the phone. Otherwise the program pauses.
Highly recommened.

Buy this App!  rating of Couch to 5k

About three months ago, I was up above 270 and looking for a way to start getting back in shape. I figure $2.99 wasn't a lot to spend for an app - as long as it did its job. I was NOT disappointed!
Having just completed Week 9 a few days ago, I have seen a big difference after using Couch to 5K. I'm now under 250, have had to buy some smaller shirts, and have been asked by numerous people if I've lost weight. Obviously, the app is only as good as the one who uses it. It won't magically get you in shape, but three-day-a-week workouts with a maximum of 30 minutes of running is a great strategy. I just turned on a podcast, started the app, and did what it told me to do.
I still have a ways to go before I'm as fit as I hope to be, but Couch to 5K gave me a great start! My next goal is to run a marathon next year!

I think that this app is special because they designed it for the unmotivated couch potatoes. Literally NONE of the exercising goals/programs I tried were motivating at all. This only takes just 30 minutes of your day (which everyoe has at least that much amount of free time, especially if you have the time to read this review) and it's only 3 days a week so if you do have a seriously busy day, that could be your day off.It also is designed so you can think about ofther things instead of worry if your doing the right pace or if you are pushing yourself too hard. Just go buy this app and try it. Deffinitelu wroth the price :)

Great app! Just what I was looking for...  rating of Couch to 5k

This is a great app for those of you doing the couch-to-5k program. I have been using podcasts with music that really didn't suit my needs. This is a great app because you use your own playlists and it runs over your playlists with the verbal cues. What more could you ask for? I don't have a Mac so garageband wasn't an option. I also like that after you complete a workout, it checks that workout off so you know you have completed it. Keeps you accountable. Worth the $ in my opinion.

Everybody needs this!  rating of Couch to 5k

I have NEVER run a 5k, or let's be honest, a mile. This app gets you motivated. I hate running and I can do this. The program is every other day and only half an hour. I'm moving through week three right now and am noticing more endurance from week one when running for one minute almost killed me. Each week is a new regimen; just when your comfortable and thinking that "this isn't that bad," you push the envelope a little bit more, but definitely not in a bad way. It's very motivating to use with Nike+ and hear that you beat your mile time (when it happens). My favorite part is knowing that the next time I can cut a few more seconds off my mile time. GREAT APP!!!!UPDATE: I'm on week six and loooving this app. Never in my life have I looked forward to the running days more! I'm always like 'i'll never make that," and when I do it's a great feeling!UBER UPDATE: Tonight was my last night of the program! I'm running a 5k this weekend. Not quite at a ten minute mile yet (11:30) but can run 3 straight miles now! It is also worth mentioning that i weigh 314.4 lbs. If i can do it, ANYBODY can!!!!

Perfect!  rating of Couch to 5k

This app has everything you need to embark on the C25K program. Basically, it organises your workouts for you, telling you when to warm up (& showing you what stretches to do), and then tells you when to run & when to walk. You start whatever music you want to listen to & then fire up this app. The alerts (of when to run/walk) are loud, clear and a nice touch is the way the colour scheme changes to reflect whether you're on a run stage or walk stage. You're also notified when you're half way through your session, so that you can turn round and start heading for home. Nice app, obviously put together by someone who has followed the C25K program himself.

Great App!  rating of Couch to 5k

I use this together with my Garmin 405 watch and I'm now on my fourth week of running and loving it thanks to C25K. At first I was terrible, struggling to run 60 seconds at a time and now just 4 weeks on am happily running 5 minutes at a time with minimal breaks between 5 min sets. Also, the stats from the Garmin show my fitness is increasing dramatically. I'm certain most if not all people out there could follow this and get a very good level of fitness, there's not much to the app but it's perfect for it's function. I'm out for a run in a bit, laters! :)

Terrific app!  rating of Couch to 5k

At 6'4" and 125kg, i've never been built for running. This app has really helped me keep motivated while running and after 2 weeks I am feeling fitter than ever. It's the only running app that works with Nike+. I am really determined to get to the 5k goal. I would like to see more features that would increase the longevity of the app such as longer distance programs, gps route tracking or sharing your route or training progress with friends.

Very impressive so far  rating of Couch to 5k
By: Lee Precious - 18-Aug-2009

It's absolutely brilliant to be able to have the voice prompts tell you when to run and when to walk. I have already done the first day (yesterday) and found that I was easily able to do it without too much difficulty. I am pretty unfit so it was a big deal for me to be able to do that, and I am very confident that I will be able to see it through the 9 weeks and come out the other side a runner! The thing I love is being able to run my Nike+ AND my music in the background, you just need to get Nike+ running first then this app and it works really well. Totally recommend it - you wont be disappointed.

Truly, I am. Lazy. I'm overweight and lazy! My sister is fit as can be and runs 4 or 5 full marathons a year. She's been after me to get in shape and do a "simple 5k" with her.So I decided to buy this app and try it out. I just completed my first day, and I did it! I was able to run when I was told to run and for as long as I was supposed to run! I'm actually excited to complete the program! So if you're lazy and unmotivated like I am, give it a try.I'm not going to tell my sister what I'm doing...I'm going to surprise her by signing up and running the next 5k with her!

Can't believe it...I did it! For anyone out there who considers themselves a couch potato wishing to be in shape, or like me, someone who sporadically tried to find time in a hectic life to exercise enough to matter to their health, this program is for you! It's very simple to do, almost seems psychic at times in how it pushes you just hard enough to make you feel tired in the middle but usually energized by the end. The checklist that tracks your finished workouts is very motivating. So is running your own invigorating playlist in the background (and I chose the simple beeps, rather than the voices). It's great that it tracks time, not distance, so you run at your own pace. I have tried to "become a runner" a few times in years past, but because I had no clue how to begin to alternate running and walking properly (too busy/embarrassed to get a trainer!) I ended up frustrated and occasionally with aches and pains that discouraged me enough to quit. With this program, I have not had a single injury that kept me from doing the next workout!Another great thing is that although the program is designed for 9 weeks, you can space the workouts any way you like; I had a few weeks where I couldn't manage all three workouts, and sometimes went back and repeated some if I thought I wasn't ready for the next level.I think the few cents I paid for this app has been undoubtedly the best health insurance expenditure ever!!!

Great Training Program for the Beginner  rating of Couch to 5k
By: Mom to three preschoolers - Oct 16, 2009
Version: 1.0.4
I have tried a Couch to 5K program in the past (I didn't get too far). It was such a pain to have to keep looking at the timer or my watch to try to figure out how long I had run. This is so great in that it just tells me when to run and walk . . . I don't have to keep track of it at all. It cuts down on the mental work, so I can focus more on the physical work. I'm looking forward to finishing this training program and moving on up to a 10K.

I highly recommend this app  rating of Couch to 5k
By: Just Swim - Jul 1, 2009
Version: 1.0.0
My wife started on the C25K about a month ago and really loved the program. So much she talked me into doing it (err... Just Swim... and Run?). For her it was a pain keeping track what time interval she was on, etc., until she found a few Podcasts that covered beeped. I was not a fan of the offerings, so I went looking for an app and came across this one. I only have completed the second workout of the first week, but I am very happy.
I play my playlist on the iPod, then kick off this app. I get audio cues, which are clearly heard over my music, and have no problems when the iPhone display locks (granted I can't glance at my time left until the next interval, but since I can hear the cue, there is little need). Once complete, the day is noted for future reference.
This is not to say there isn't room for improvement. For example, a list of pre-run stretches can be brought up. I would love to see a configurable time for each strech where the current strech is displayed, with audio cue when it is time to change(so once I memorize them I don't need to look). This, however, doesn't interfere with the core purpose of the app.
I am very happy with my purchase.

Best $2 I've spent ever in Apple Store  rating of Couch to 5k
By: enature - Oct 3, 2009

I am on my 5th week. While no application can make you run, Coach 5K is exactly that last drop that can make a difference between sticking to running or abandoning it after the first week. It's my personal couch. The program nicely complements Nike +, which runs on iPhone in background. Nike + is a delayed couch, it collects data during the run and then displays later online. And Couch 5K is right there with me when I run to give me a balanced blend of walking and running for steady progress. This, hands down, is the most benefitial $2 I spent in Apple Store. Looking forward to Couch 10K.

Outstanding in every way!  rating of Couch to 5k

I am in to week 3 and loving this app. It's just what it says it is. I have tried a number of methods to get my butt off the couch and this has done it. The workouts seem to know "me" - pushes my limits without killing me. I've signed up for a couple of 5ks later this year as incentive.I've had a few glitches, like the sounds not playing initially. But not a big deal. One suggestion would be a voice prompt for the current workout ("week 2 workout 1"). I peeked ahead and forgot to set it back and nearly died running until the prompt before I realized what happened! I have found the sirens to be loud, but not too loud. Love that it tracks when you complete each workout.Thank you for this app! I too want to request a 5k to 10k app!
