RunKeeper uses the GPS technology found in the iPhone 3G/3GS to track your fitness activity, giving you comparable results to an expensive GPS watch at a fraction of the cost.
Now, you can also enter your activities manually, including your treadmill runs too!
The intuitive and easy-to-use interface of the app makes it easy to track how far you went, how long it took, what your pace/speed was, how many calories you burned, and the path you traveled on a map.
Once your activity is completed, the data is synced to the RunKeeper website (www.runkeeper.com) where you can view a history of all of your activities, and cumulative totals of all of your vital stats. You can also share your progress with friends by posting your activities to Facebook and Twitter, and creating a profile page that allows people to view all of your public activities.
** RunKeeper is only compatible with the iPhone 3G/3GS **
Features:
* Activity Tracking
No need for an expensive, standalone fitness tracking device when you can use your iPhone 3G or 3GS to do the same thing. Now you can track how far you went, how long it took you, and the route you traveled right from your iPhone
* Personal Dashboard
Store all historical activities on runkeeper.com, where you can keep track of totals and monitor your progress
* Maps integration
See the exact path you traveled on a map, both on the device and on our website
* Activity Sharing
Share your activities with friends via email, or by posting them to your favorite social sites, including Facebook and Twitter
* Music
You can listen to the iPod during your activity, and even change tracks without leaving the RunKeeper application
* iPod Integration
Choose one of your iPod playlists to start automatically the moment you begin your activity

Love this app  rating of RunKeeper Pro
By: Triptrot - Sep 19, 2009
Version: 1.6.0.14
I have a very expensive garmin running gps device that now sits on my night stand while I go for a run. This is well worth the $ but it has some quirks. The current pace it gives me sometimes is way off and I like to listen to audio books & pod casts as I run and have found that if I need to go take care of my audio in iTunes it will automatically pause my workout which I don't like. Those are minor compared to the overall benefit of easily tracking your workouts, having audio ques whenever you choose to get them, nice maps of your routes, and the benefit of having one device that does it all and the safety of having your cell along on your runs! Love this!

Used this since Day 1  rating of RunKeeper Pro

I have used this program since day 1. It helped me train for 2 different marathons and was a wonderful tool to keep up with my runs and my activity. I love the fact my family can log in and see my progress. I also appreciate all the upgrades the tech support team have done over the year. This truly is my most used app for my IPhone and I have purchased over 200 of these already. This is a great app and if you are interested in tracking your progress with running, there is nothing better.

Easily the best software out there.  rating of RunKeeper Pro

I really like RunKeeper. Liked it enough that I purchased the pro version. I have a few thousand words review comparing this with other applications here. http://bit.ly/Zc3U.
- It is developed by a runner, so the features all have a nice touch that gears it towards runners. For instance, the lock button turns over the screen so when you are using an armband, you can easily read the stats.
- The fonts are big and nice and easy to read.
- Their customer support is phenomenal. I usually ask questions through twitter at @runkeeper and I get a response within minutes.
- The only 'failure' I had with this after about 20 runs is on a very very very cloudy day when iPhone GPS did not work. NONE of the other GPS apps worked as well, so it was not limited to RK.
- The software evolves continuously and RK team is very receptive to your suggestions. Any gripes you have might be addressed sooner than later.
- Those who have problems with GPS connectivity, please check the RK forums for suggestions. In many cases, turning off WiFi would help a lot.
- Audio cues in the pro version are priceless. With the audio cues turned on, you can use the top lock in iPhone and conserve battery and still get readings every 5 minutes. The next version of Pro (at the minute I write, the Free version has been upgraded and already has this feature) will keep the GPS going even if you are not using your iPod.
In short, I have spent 100s of $ for software that I use regularly, but RK Free and Pro have given me the best bang for the buck out of ANY software I have used, iPhone app or not.

Six Star App  rating of RunKeeper Pro
By: drcain - Aug 27, 2009
Version: 1.6.0.12
One of the few, best-of-the-best apps for the iPhone. And if I had my money back, I wouldn't hesitate buying this again.
With RunKeeper Pro now doing "Training" modes, it allows my wife and I to do the interval training of the 9-week "Couch to 5K" (C25K) easily! C25K is a methodology (google it) where a beginning runner jogs for 90secs, then walks for 30secs, etc, for 30mins. Then week after week, they start jogging longer and walking less, up until by the 9th week they are running for 30mins straight. And it's so easy to make interval training routines with this app!
And now it auto-starts an iPod playlist when you start your routine, making it even more user friendly! Great, great app.

Great app!!!!! Buy this!!!!  rating of RunKeeper Pro

This is a fantastic app that I gave a 4 star rating yesterday BEFORE I really got indepth with the web part of it and although I'd like to see a calories burned number on the iPhone, it's there on the website with a very comprehensive graph of your pace, speed average and altitude. This app has everything I want and works exactly as they advertise. I have lost 50 lbs this year and this app is going to help me reach my final goals. Thank you

One Word - Phenomenal!!!  rating of RunKeeper Pro
By: newmacs - Jul 3, 2009
Version: 1.5.0.7
I was reluctant at first to try this out. I had a garmin forerunner 405 and was completely happy with it. However I had bought the iPhone 3GS and stumbled upon this app. I made an impulse purchase and just went ahead and bought the pro version. All I have to say is best impulse buy EVER! No buyers remorse here. Wow...this thing was spot on accurate with my garmin. I'm selling my garmin on eBay right now. No sense in carrying around my iPhone and the garmin when the runkeeper is just as accurate! I found that for a 3-mile run it eats up about 10% of battery life but that also included me listening to Bluetooth headphones(jaybird 200s). This app is also different than the others in that you and LOCK your screen with the iPhone's sleep/wake button to conserve battery! Accuracy, voice feedback, and now interval training! Just get the app and start running and never look back! 5 stars!!

Great app.  rating of RunKeeper Pro

Version: 1.6.0.14
I've been using RK for about 6 weeks. The app is fantastic. Quick GPS location. The in app tracking is fine, but what I love is the web integration. Once your run is complete, it'll instantly update your profile on the RK website, and tracks you run with pace, elevation, distance, and graphs your weekly/monthly distances. It has settings for other activities (cycling, for example), though I only use it for running. It has Facebook integration, which I'm using as a kind of blog of my training.
I find using RK helps me keep motivated, as I love checking and updating my stats and information, constantly trying to improve.

...but needed to for this one. i've used nike+, and it was ok. but then after reading 'born to run' i started running barefoot, and nike+ wouldn't work without a shoe, so i bought runkeeper pro. even if i go back to shoes, i won't go back to nike+...not because it was bad, but because i'm sold on runkeeper
several other reviews about the great features, so i don't need to go there. i just want to say that i rarely spend $10 on an app, but this one is worth it

Exellent App!  rating of RunKeeper Pro
By: Hartville Runner - Oct 31, 2009
Version: 1.6.0.14
I have used Runkeeper Pro for two weeks while running and cycling. This App really works! I run in heavily wooded areas and the GPS on the iPhone has never failed. I strap the iPhone to my arm and just run. The audio ques work without head phones which I prefer due to the safety concerns of cycling and running with head phones. I was going to purchase a Garmin GPS device until I tried Runkeeper. Runkeeper Pro has saved me the money I would have put toward a Garmin unit and has practically paid for my iPhone.Extremely happy in Hartville, Ohio

Don't hesitate to buy !  rating of RunKeeper Pro

This application has saved me money ! I was intending on buying a nike + kit and a small holder for the unit to tie to my non-nike shoes. That would have cost me over $30. AND, I needed an interval watch for my training (running) which would have run me another $30. Instead, I got my iphone to speak my intervals to me, track my run, read me my pace, graph my improvement, AND play my running playlist all at the same time. All for only $10. It worked seamlessly and I sincerely wish that all my other iphone apps worked as well. Thank you RunKeeper for one of the best designed apps I've seen yet !

Fantastic if you know how to use it  rating of RunKeeper Pro
By: crick - Nov 2, 2009

I've read a lot of reviews and it seems that the negitive ones don't really read up on how to use the app. The development team, although small, really puts a lot of effort into this program and address all the issues that negitive reviews have brought up such as poor accuracy, calorie tracking, battery life, and so on. I've never had an issue with any of these things. They continue to update the app and its gotten to the point that I look forward to a runkeeper update as much as an iPhone update. It works well and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than the the other routes one might take. Great job guys. I'm on board.

Essential for the outdoors/nerd type, who like running, stats, numbers, maps & graphs!  rating of RunKeeper Pro

Its a great way, when after a good old slog in the wind & rain, to come home, sit down with your friends & family, & re-live your hopeless activity using the speed/distance/altitude graph & the fantastic google map trace.
.... Seriously, if you are the outdoors type who likes to run, cycle, walk, skate etc, this is the perfect tool for tracking your activity. I've found the reliability to be great & functionality way ahead of any other 'similar' apps. I ran last night for a good 1h 30mins & the battery on my 3g iphone went down by roughly 1/3. Great app.

I recently volunteered to do a cancer relief run. 5 miles. At 19 stone and with no prev running experience I had 8 weeks to be able to get in a fit state to do it! Without this app I seriously wouldn't have kept up my training! There's nothing like knowing just how well your doing in terms of times and speeds to keep you going. The audio prompts they added are darn handy for keeping a steady pace whilst out running!If you have any interest in running/cycling and need a good solid program then this is the one. The integration with the Internet site is awesome too!Thanks runkeeper also for keeping on top of things and adding new features all the time - good luck to Jason in the Boston marathon too!Btw I managed the 5.02 miles in 58.41 :o)

One of the best applications for the iPhone  rating of RunKeeper Pro
By: Ashley I - 14-Jan-2009
Version: 1.2
Excellent application for the 3G iPhone. Make excellent use of the GPS and features of the iPhone. Start the application, wait a short period for the GPS locator to kick in, hit start, go for a run, cycle. Once you’re done, hit stop and your run is automatically uploaded to the website. The website is very good, giving a google map and a speed and altitude histogram, also options to export to google earth.
Well worth the money.

In a word - Excellent  rating of RunKeeper Pro
By: site-report - 05-Nov-2009
Version: 1.7
This is a great app. I've tried several training apps including C25K, Couch to 5K, Get Running and with the latest update, RK beats all competitors hands down. Easy to use and with accurate GPS and a very useful web site for tracking historic runs, there's little to faultUpdate (1.7.0.9):With a couple of updates under its belt since the last review, Runkeeper gets better and better. This is my favourite app by a long way. Not only does the RK team listen to user feedback and feature suggestions but they enhance the apo to include the best of them. Customer support and interaction with users is second to none. Check out the forum, Facebook fan page and Twitter page to see for yourself.If you have an iPhone 3G/3GS and want to get fit, this is the app that'll get you motivated to do so. Top marks to Jason, Michael, Tom and rest of team for producing an excellent app and infrastructure to support it. If you're thinking of trying the Free version, save time and go for Pro instead. Way better features and knocks the competition like Nike+, imapmyrun, etc out of the water!

Excellent  rating of RunKeeper Pro
By: Alex e c - 03-Nov-2009

It's rare that I'd pay to go from free to pro, but this is one of the best applications on the iPhone. While it does suffer from the usual GPS issues of loosing lock in you're near tall buildings or mountains, or occasionally plotting a clearly erroneus point (you'll note that the negatives reviews tend to focus on this). it's still so unbelievable useful if you are training. I've taken it running, cycling and snowboarding and it's worked pretty well for all.

Good value and functionality  rating of RunKeeper Pro
By: bpot - 23-Mar-2009

Although quite pricey compared to many apps, I think this one is a bargain for what you get. The iPhone part is well put together with some excellent features such as audio updates whilst running. The companion website is great and allows you to review your activity quickly and intuitively; I love the way you can move around your route seeing how your speed and altitude vary. If you want a tool to log your runs (or other activities) and help motivate you whilst doing them then I would recommend this app.
