Best Application I've Bought  rating of ShapeUp Club
By: Alimo100 - 11-Feb-2009
Version: 1.5
I am not the most motivated person and I can lack willpower for dieting, however, this application has really given me focus and motivation. It is very easy to add your own foods to the database and gives you huge satisfaction noting down your exercise and seeing the calories disappear! I don't think I would have maintained focus to diet and exercise without this application. I've been using it for 2 weeks now and have lost 4lbs. The only thing I would suggest you do is check some items in the food database against the packets of food you have. For example, I found the calorific value of the Basmati rice I use to be approx 3 x the amount of calories given in the food database and the same with a chicken breast. This can really throw you out as you will think you are taking in a lot less calories than you are. It is really easy to check and amend the food values and, if you spend a little time at the beginning getting the database correct, it only takes seconds to use on subsequent occasions.

Best weight loss tool I've found  rating of ShapeUp Club

I've been using iShape for two weeks now and have lost nearly a stone. I've always tried to keep a note of what I'm eating but usually get a bit bored and start forgetting to do it. This app lets me easily keep track, and where it doesn't have a lot of the foods I eat, as it's database seems to be mainly American, it does let me easily add any food or excercise I want to the list. You add your weight, waist measurement and height, and what weight you'd like to be, and it calculates your bmi and how long it'll take to reach your goal. Every week it prompts you to remeasure and weigh yourself.
Each day you have an alloted number of calories and as you add the foods you're eating the counter tells you how much you have left. If you stay within your calories you get a green tick, and if you go over it's a big red cross... You'd be surprised how motivating it is to see the big green tick and know you're on your way.
I cannot reccomend this app enough - I swithered over it, thinking £5.99 was a bit steep, but I am delighted so far. Go buy this app !

Great app  rating of ShapeUp Club

I brought this yesterday for 59p what a bargin ! The only down side is having to add all the foods I eat not uk friendy. The app is very good but doesn't tell you to eat enough calories it's not good at all to eat below 1000 cals a day ! No wonder people are loosing weight. when you all start eating more calories your going to put the weight back on ! Saying that it is a good app if you add 200 cal to what it tells you to eat, it does make you watch the cakes and chocolate. I would like it if it had fat and saturated fat not all fats are bad and I'd like to watch the bad fats ! I have given it 5* it is a great app just add a few more calories !

Really useful app...A few tweaks would help  rating of ShapeUp Club
By: fmgreeneyes - 21-Jan-2009

I have been using this app for a couple of weeks now and find it really useful for keeping track of my calorie intake and tracking my progress. It has a nice interface and all the functions are easy to find and use. There are a couple of things I would like to see that would make it even better. Firstly, since my scales measure in points of a pound, it would be nice to have this option in the app instead of rounding up or down to the nearest pound (I know it seems niggly but when you're losing weight every point of a pound counts). It would also be useful to be able to add a food to more than one category e.g. If I added Muller Light Strawberry yoghurt, I would like to be able to add it under Brands and under yoghurt. There seems to be a slight problem when entering in the 'Amount' box in 'Custom Measurement' when you're adding a new food - if you tap it once and the cursor appears in the box, you have to tap it again before it will allow you to type. Lastly, when you edit a meal in the admin section that you have already added to your daily diary, the edits you made are not updated in the diary e.g. if you added a new item to the meal which increased the calories, this would not show up in your diary.
Apart from these few slightly pedantic points, it's a great app!!

Life saver!  rating of ShapeUp Club

Downloaded this App last week as recommended by my cousin - she lost nearly 2st! I've tried every diet going and don't get far and give up but I've lost 4lbs in my 1st week and I even went 100cal+ on 3 of the 7 days. It's not been difficult, bit fiddly creating meals from scratch but once saved it's so easy. I still eat naughty foods but now realise I need to earn calories by exercising if I want to indulge a tad. It's helped me realise that I've been eating too many carbs and not enough protein plus I'm conciously having to drink the 8.5 cups of water. Other than the Facebook App this is the best App so far. I wanted an app that I could log my day-to-day calories in, that could track them all for me & be an online database if I'm out & about. I also wanted to be able to track my weight loss, preferably with a graph, so it's clear how I'm doing.Guess what?...Yup, this app ticks ALL the boxes & more! & the best bit? it's ONLY 59p! no weekly subscription etc. The ability to set up a "meal" is a nice touch as I make up my own lunches etc & I haven't had any problems finding all the UK foods & measurements I need.As a wish list, being able to copy a day or a whole lunch/dinner would be useful. Also the ability to tag a couple of items in 1 go would speed things upA great app!... I've lost 1 1/2 stone already! Woot & yay! thank you :)

I don't need to loose a great deal of weight but I have a real soft spot for sweets and biscuits! This app has changed my view and given me the will power to resist. I now think twice about what difference the extra calories will mean and because it is on my iPhone I can pretty much enter what I want, when I want!It would be nice to see more UK based entries in the food groups but it still gets a 5 star rating none the less. Thanks for a great app.

Brilliant  rating of ShapeUp Club

A fantastic app. I live in the uk and was a bit cautious about buying this app due to the measurements etc, but there appears to be no problem. I literally purchased it, and there was an instant impact! The shock of calculating your bmi and actually measuring your waistline is a real eye opener.I have filled out 2 meal times and can already see that there is too much fat in my diet. I can see that if I stick to their daily calorie allowance and water intake etc.. With just a little bit of exercise, I can see this app working real wonders. Definately worth a buy for the price, simply because the shock to begin with. Much better than a food diary, a lot more discreet and informative. A must buy for anyone wanting to watch what they eat!**UPDATE**I felt compelled to come back and write an update for this app, simply because it is that brilliant!! I've has this for just over a week now, and I have already lost 3kg! It is so easy with this app! I have not had to change my lifestyle or even the foods I eat, this app just makes you aware of how much you eat.It has a good online database of foods, sometimes it can be tricky to find exactly what you've eaten, especially if you have eaten out, but it's great how it gives you a rough estimate which still will make you aware of how many calories your having a day. With will power and a bit of exercise, I can see this app working for anyone!

really love thid app, havent come across any issues with metric usage. Love the easy way you can add custom foods and exercises. I have tried Fit 1.02 and this is more stable with easier to use functions and GUI. The ability to track weist measurement is great, you can even take a photo of your body at the start and compare that down the track when you meet your weight loss goals. Highly reccomend this app above others i have looked at.

Updated With HUGE ONLINE FOOD DATABASE!  rating of ShapeUp Club
By: larrybeo - Jan 7, 2009
Version: 1.3
I paid $9.99 for this app and will not complain one bit about it. It is worth every penny. The GUI is great, it responds nicely, works as promised, and they have just added a *HUGE* online database of food. Yes, I no longer have to skip over foods because I don't feel like typing in the nutritional facts myself! How great is that? Searching for words like "Stuffing" and "pot roast" will bring up numerous choices that you can chose from, then once you pick the one you want, you can add it to your database with one click. It works seemlessly over the 3G, great app. Let's lose some weight!

Positive Feedback  rating of ShapeUp Club
By: jsar - 16-Mar-2009
Version: 1.7
It's not the app that makes you lose weight but good old fashion calorie reduction and increasing exertion (aka exercise). This app is excellent because it provides instant positive feedback which is a most powerful factor...especially if you are even partly motivated. The database is large and expanding but be prepared to do some of your own work. For those whinging about lack of Ozzie products and the like I would suggest having less of a reliance on "products" and "ready meals" and using more natural/ base ingredients. This app relies in BMI and basic nutrition... If weightloss is your only game then it's fine. BUT if you want to empower yourself with healthy eating habits then you have to educate yourself on other nutritional concepts (such as GI, types of fats, food preparation techniques etc...) and rely less on brands and processed foods.

Has everything you need to get your diet on track & lose weight!  rating of ShapeUp Club

This is the first app that actually tells you how many calories you have to have per day in order to lose weight, it has a great database of foods/calories & excercises/calories burned. You can also add your own foods & excercises. The other weight loss apps in itunes do not have all the features that ishape has, this is totally worth it! Since using it I have lost weight & I am on my way of meeting my goal.

Great App.!  rating of ShapeUp Club

Does everything it says, and does so in a very user friendly way. It has a food database that I can use for some of my foods, but I LOVE being able to make my own foods and meals. Especially the meals, since I can set up all my meals in the database and then just chose that one when I have it. No need to constantly enter each item individually! The charts, graphs, and photos make a great addition to the program, that makes using it all that much more fun and informative. I would reccomend this app. to anyone and everyone, definitely worth the money. Anything that makes tracking your diet and weight fun is worth every penny. ;)

Online sharing database for foods and exercises, ability to add your own foods and exercises, graphs for tracking all your progress, customisable calorie plan for based on how active you are and absolutly no complications and automatic convertion between different measurement methods like kilojules and even weight watchers points!!! i have been losing a kg a week just like the app said and its the best app i have ever bought :) im very happy with it and the only thing i cud suggest to improve the database is maybe allow for the taking of pictures of the products or meals because sometimes your not sure what kind of bun or beef steak you just ate (mums cooking) and it wud be gud to search by keywords then pics if you know what the food LOOKS like :)

Big eye opener!  rating of ShapeUp Club
By: dirraaan - 15-Oct-2008

This application is fantastic, it was a big eye opener to what you have been eating and I had some work to fall into the target calorie zone. It really makes counting calories very simple and sort of fun, and it makes it SO much easier to justify to yourself that you don’t need an unhealthy food, when your intake for the day is plotted in front of you. One note is there is some lag while scrolling, and this has caused mine to crash on the occasion when flick scrolling to the bottom. Other than this it’s a great application and I’d love to see it expanded with more exercised etc.

best option available!  rating of ShapeUp Club

I agree that this is the best app available on the iphone for tracking daily nutrition. I really love the pie chart showing the % of protein, fat and carbs - very helpful to keep those that eat too many carbs in check!
This is minor and an interface design thing, but since I work in online app development it's bugging me a little.
On the Diary page, it would be cleaner if the + and - signs weren't visible all the time. Instead, maybe swiping the item to delete it (which isn't a common action anyway unless you add something you didn't really eat, I've not ever used it). This would be consistent with the action in the Mail app on the iPhone to delete. The add food to meal button is already always there anyway and you have to touch the button not the + to actually add, could move the + into the bar if wanted to keep the icon. Or if you didn't want to alter the layout, could display icon of the category the food item added is from instead of the - sign. The icons are cute and make the app nicer to look at and use. :) Might be neat to visually see at a glance the categories you're eating out of over the course of the day by scanning these icons.
This would help the diary feel cleaner and not like it's always in "edit" mode. :)
Great app though and developer is very responsive, click on their web link to see their blog updates! I'll be recommending this app to my friends with iPhones that want to track their nutrition and or loose weight.

Outstanding!  rating of ShapeUp Club

The weight loss program I'm following stresses journaling food intake and exercising. iShape enables me to do that efficiently. I don't care if I have to add some of my own foods. I can put them in a Favorites list and access them again and again with ease. I like that this app has macro-nutrient info as well as calorie info. And best of all, before I decided to spend $10 on a app, I was able to visit the developer's web site and get a full video tour of the program. Made the decision process a breeze.

Absolutely Fantastic!  rating of ShapeUp Club

If you are serious about keeping an eye on your calories, this app is definitely for you!
Having a custom calories option in the meals section would be helpful.
Tip: if you are unable to find a food, try using custom calories. If you don’t know the calories, but you do know the kilojoules, just type them in and then put in “kj” it will convert your kilojoules to calories for you.
Oh, and thanks for including metric.

Got me out of a slump  rating of ShapeUp Club
By: WarEagle2004 - Nov 21, 2008

Started working out a while ago and had an initial loss then I adjusted and didn't lose anything for three months. Being able to track everything on a device I carry anyway was a huge difference maker for me. Quickly realized I was not eating enough on my workout days and over compensating on the rest days. Also does a great job keeping me honest on the weekends. Every improvement I can think of such as coordinating with say Subway to put all their data in is probably beyond the 9.99 price. I usually end up manually putting in one meal a day so overall I spend 10-15 minutes a day which is way less than I exercise, but those are the minutes that are making a difference for me on the scale.

Awesome app  rating of ShapeUp Club

Excited to buy this. It's everything it promises to be. Good at tracking progress. Well done. Have a look at the video it gives great understanding if the product it's on their website. I'm learning a lot about why I'm not as trim as I want to be and surprisingly I eat less fat than I thought I did! Give it ago.
Tip - naturally its hard to get every food into the database. For foods that iSHAPE is missing, grab the packet you bought it from, or alternatively use the CalorieCheck program to find the info. It is very easy to custom add your own foods. It is also easy to custom add your own meals. A meal in iSHAPE can be used as "speed entry" for a regular combination of foods that you might have, eg. your favourite salad lunch you have every day.
