Almost every day I used it, I felt refreshed when the alarm started." - Christina Karlsson "Waking up at the right time is an amazing thing. I couldn't believe the difference it made!" - Michael Palka "It felt like I was already awake and the iPhone just let me know it." - Anders Hejdenberg ------------------------------------------------------- Sleep Cycle monitors your movement during sleep using the extremely sensitive accelerometer in your iPhone. Sleep Cycle then finds the optimal time to wake you up during a 30 minute window that ends at your set alarm time. Look at the screenshots for recommended iPhone placement. ------------------------------------------------------- Sleep Cycle was developed using proven sleep science and five months of exhaustive testing. As you sleep you go through different phases that range from deep sleep to light sleep. The phase you are in when your alarm clock goes off is a critical factor regarding how tired you will feel when you wake up. Since you move differently in bed during the different phases, Sleep Cycle uses the accelerometer in your iPhone to monitor your movement to determine which sleep phase you are in. Sleep Cycle then wakes you in your lightest sleep phase. Remember! Do NOT lock your phone when going to bed. Sleep Cycle automatically shuts down your screen and puts the phone into a power saving mode. If you lock your phone Sleep Cycle will not sense your movement and will then only be able to wake you at the end of the alarm time. ------------------------------------------------------- REQUIREMENTS Ability to charge your phone by your bed Ability to place your iPhone according to the instructions (see screenshots) Sleep Cycle does not work with Tempur mattresses Please note that we no longer support iPod Touch. Please do not buy Sleep Cycle if you have an iPod Touch.

Reviews:
Great app. Does what it says. By: Rashlien - Nov 6, 2009 Version: 1.2 With most alarms I hit the snooze button until the last possible minute. With this alarm it wakes me up when I'm half awake already and then I stay awake instead of rolling over and going back to sleep in 10 minute incrementsSome other reviewers are saying that the alarm wakes them up at the exact time they tell it. I have found the program wakes me up earlier than the set alarm time usually. However it depends on the time I set it for. What I've read about sleep cycles says we sleep in 90 minute increments. So when the alarm wakes you up at the exact time you set it for then you probably aren't getting enough sleep or are trying to wake youself up while you're in a deeper sleep. For future improvements: I would love to have the ability to track my sleeping pattern as well as the alarm.
First time in my life By: Sleepaholic - Nov 12, 2009 Version: 1.2 My whole life I have been such a heavy sleeper that I have actually worried about my personal safety. I have slept through a fire alarm once only to be woken by the firemen physically carrying me out of my burning apartment. It never mattered how much time I devoted to sleep or how many ear blasting progressively louder alarms I set or phone calls I missed. I even lost 2 jobs for oversleeping. I bought this 4 days ago and for 4 days the quiet and peaceful alarm has woken me approximately 10 minutes early, each time well rested and ready to start my day. This was WELL worth the dollar I spent on it. I dare say it has literally saved my life. I have never been this grateful in my life. Great purchase. Give it a chance!!

Hard to believe - but YES! By: Bghuna - Oct 8, 2009 Version: 1.2 I've come to rely on this more than even my usual alarm clock at home! Unlike what others have stated - similar to a refrigerator light - the screen goes off when the iPhone is placed face down on the bed. Be aware, though, that since it does consider your sleep cycle, you might be awakened earlier than what you set the alarm (30 mins early has been the earliest for me): I think of the alarm time as "the latest I want to get up is at..." It's a remarkable use of the technology & I highly endorse its use (and I rarely write reviews!).
Seriously Impressive By: Laura Biart - 26-Nov-2009 Version: 1.2 This app did exactly what it said it would! I was really impressed and woke up feeling like I had got a great nights sleep. Usually when my alarm sounds it gets quickly turned off and still feeling shattered I choose to revisit my slumber, but when I was woken up by this app i actualy got up!! No more lying around till the last minute then frantically changing to run off to Uni half asleep still!! The only improvements I would like would be that when you are chooseing what sound to wake you up just to hear a small preview of that. And also someone else mentioned having a diagram showing the results off the acceleromiter; I thought that could be quite cool.
Revolutionary By: Badgerguy - 18-Nov-2009 Version: 1.2 This App changes the nature of what an alarm clock can be from something that simply makes a noise at an arbitrary time, to something that intelligently wakes you at the best moment. It really works too, and has been helping me sort out my sleeping patterns (which were pretty messed up!). No more blearily hitting snooze and maybe being late for work - now I find it easier to get up, and feel alert and lucid faster. And given the current sale price, give it a try. After a few days of adjusting to your sleep pattern you too will find this app knows more about your sleeping habits than you do!The only request I'd make is the addition of a small 'report' on my sleep phases, but that would be tertiary to the apps main purpose, still - it would be interesting.
Still awesome, can't wait for Version 2! By: Gillinator - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 1.2 Still stand by my first review, it works as advertised, I wake up more refreshed each morning. Nice to have more alarm sounds, they are very soothing and pleasant to wake up to. The reviews that say it leaves the LCD on all night are wrong, as long as you follow instructions and place it face down, it goes blank via the proximity sensor. Sure it techincally stays "on" all night, but so does your alarm clock and many other electronic gadgets in your house. This app is a great deal, for $1 it's worth trying, and it will only get better with version 2. Other apps that do this are $8-$15 and look way too complex.
I love it By: _rivar - Sep 25, 2009 Version: 1.1 I really love it. The screen switches off automatically, btw. (proximity sens). Of course, it'd be MUUUCH better if the iPhone could be switched off (well; locked). However, that's Apple's side and not the developers to be blamed. It works very reliable for me and I like waking up with it. Always hated feeling tired; never had that with this program so far (use it for like two weeks now).
Amazing App By: illucius - Aug 27, 2009 Version: 1.1 This might just be me favourite app now. It really works in that in wakes me up more refreshed in the morning than before. Seems like magic, almost. It's very easy to use too.... just follow the instructions and it's not a problem. My only complaints would be to Apple to allow this app to run while the phone is locked so I don't need to keep it plugged in overnight and drain battery. I understand this is not an issue with the developer, but caused by restrictions by Apple. Hopefully these can be removed in the future. Still though, this is an amazing app... you wont regret using it.

Genius! By: aeromonas - 03-Sep-2009 Version: 1.1 This app has to be the most ingenious, well-integrated use of the iPhone's capabilities around. Not at all obvious either. Kudos to the developers! I've known about motion sensing, sleep-cycle alarm clocks for years, but couldn't afford to try one. And now this! It works perfectly! My problem is that I want to wake early (4AM) but share a bed with a more fitful sleeper than me who has banned me from using an ordinary alarm. The Sleep Cycle just trickles in a little ambient music right when I'm ready to wake up an take notice, and my partner's none the wiser. And I just step out of bed ready to start my early day! It won't sleep for you, of course, i.e. it won't make four hours of sleep feel like eight, but it what it does do is take the pain out of waking up early with an alarm. You won't need a snooze button; just step right out of bed. In contrast to what you see in the instructions, I haven't needed to keep my phone plugged in, which is all for the good. I'd bet that in most circumstances so long as you have a reasonable charge before you go to bed, the battery will last until morning.
Seems to do what it claims By: Storn - 1-Nov-2009 Version: 1.2 I have been using this for about two weeks now. I am the type of person that hits the snooze button a five or ten times each morning, before I can roll out of bed and stumble to the kettle for my daily dose of java. While this application hasn't changed my ritual consumption of caffeine, it has turned it from an act of necessity to an act of gastronomic pleasure. To be sure, for the two weeks that I've used the app, the alarm has gone off at precisely the moment I feel awake. This is really an unusual thing to describe or believe. If I didn't know the app was using the accelerometer to measure my movements during sleep, and then using this data to wake me up at a moment when I'm already at my most wakeful, I'd think the app was magic. Now, here's what the app won't do. It won't make up for not getting enough sleep. If you only get five hours, you won't feel alert no matter what. But if you make sure you are getting adequate sleep, it'll make sure you wake up feeling as refreshed as possible. The app is well-designed and very pleasing to look at. It can be used as bedside clock, and it does this and IRS primary function (waking you up at your most wakeful time) with style. Still, i think the program could do a bit more to enhance your sleep quality. I'd like to see the data that the app collects to assess your sleep cycle glength of sleep, time spent in recognizable phases). This could help people assess and address problems, like not getting enough deep sleep, themselves. To this end, it would be great if you could indicate to the app when you wake up prematurely (as in the middle of the night). Still this is a wonderful app that dies what it says and does it well. Well worth the asking price.
The screen turns off if you place the phone face-down! By: mikeym328 - Nov 17, 2009 Version: 1.2 To everyone complaining that the screen stays on: read the instructions. The iPhone's proximity sensor makes the screen turn off when you place it face down as shown in the picture. You can see for yourself, just set the alarm and hold your finger over the whole ear piece of the iPhone and the screen will go dark. As the description says, the iPod isn't supported because it has no proximity sensor. The app itself is good. So far 3 out of 5 five days I've used it I've felt "better" when it's woke me up. I set it for 7:40, but it tends to wake me up at about 7:20 or so. I agree with other reviews that a graph of sleep patterns would be cool, but I'm sure sure what I would do with such data.
Great - extra dev would be even better! By: Ac wokas - 01-Dec-2009 Version: 1.2 So far, so good with this app. In truth, I was rather dubious, but thought "what the hay, I'll try it". Woke up again today a lot fresher than usual (no continued snoozing!). The only thing is, I can't help feeling it's in my head as the app doesn't actually show history of having "done" anything. It would be great if the app could record this and show - like the graph in the example. This would then get 5 stars!
Almost Perfect!!!! :) By: Madmoses - Oct 3, 2009 Version: 1.2 The app does work great. It woke me up twenty min early and even though I didn't get out of bed I could check my emails from the iPhone and read the news and chill before I had to start moving. The smooth alarm feature is the nicest way to wake up. I think they shoul add more sound and a graph depicting your sleep behavior. This would ensure a five star rating and help prove it's method for waking me up when it did.Overall great product... Just needs a few more features to be the best alarm system in the Apple App store.
It says plain as day... By: PrismaticEcho - Sep 23, 2009 Version: 1.2 ...NOT to put the phone under a sheet or pillow. I noticed in some of the poor ratings that people were putting it "under their pillow" or "under their sheet". That probably explains the overheating. Anyway, I just took off one star because I set my alarm for 12pm, and it woke me up at 12:28. I was under the impression that the 30 minute window was UP TO your alarm time. Maybe it was, and the alarm noise is so soft that it took 30 minutes to wake me? I'm not sure... but the alarm noises are really quiet, so that is a possibility!
Really works! By: MissusDakey - Sep 19, 2009 Version: 1.2 I read a review of a watch gadget in David Pogue's column that also measures sleep cycles and wakes you up at the optimum time, but it cost over $200. So I didn't have high expectations for a $1 app. But I've been using it for almost a week, and I really do wake up with more energy! Best of all when I use this, I am really awake and don't go back to sleep, so no fear of oversleeping. Works great for short naps as well!
Nice gentle alarm By: Minhala - Sep 1, 2009 Version: 1.1 I really like the gradual alarm and the soothing sounds provided. I think I must not move much as the alarm has tended to go off at the time I set it for, never any earlier. This is certainly a more affordable solution than many of the others on the app store. I would like to see a graph of movements during the night. I did a sleep study a few years ago, and it showed me that 6 hours of sleep was the worst for me. I did better with 3 or 4 hours of sleep. I'd like to see if those graphs have changed any over the years. I'd also like to see a snooze button. I know it's against the idea of the app, but sometimes it's noce to lay and doze for a little bit longer.
