The developers of this app really turned it around. The original big oven was one of my first apps back in march and I hated it, and I love anything with recipes. It used to feel like one of those big recipe books you buy on clearence and get home to realize why it was so cheap. I actually deleted it. With the update I decided to give it another chance and now I love it. Props to turning it around!

It doesn't matter if you don't know much about cooking or are a chef, this app is worth getting! I have been cooking for years and was stuck in a routine of making the same meals every week. I have cook books at home but never feel like digging them out and flipping through them. Since getting the bigoven app I have tried dozens of new recipes and found lots of new family favorites! Try it, it's free and so helpful!

I downloaded this just because it was free and thought, "well, maybe in a pinch", since I'm a pretty big fan of epicurious and FoodTv. Well, I tried it once and hit a home-run with some fast and easy Baked Ziti. Other recipes have also been very good. I usually don't think about what's for dinner until the afternoon, so this app has really been a convenient resource. I'm pretty happy with the recipes and the reviews. Hey-it's free!!

I'm 14, and everything I've made from this site has been absolutely amazing! My family is shocked when i tell them I make it :) I made cake for my best friends birthday and he worshipped me for it lolIt could just be me but idk lolAnd to everyone giving 1 star for it not working, just don't write the review, cause all you do is lower the rating for a good app, just send them an emailI would like an update for the server time though

Hello there -- I'm the app's author. I just want to respond to "veggiedude" who suggests that there are no vegetarian recipes there. Simply search "Vegetarian" and you'll be taken to 225 of the vegetarian recipes on the site. (Yes, it first takes you to a definition, but read that screen again -- it has a link on it to further search the archive.) This is by design -- articles that BigOven has in its dictionary are automatically presented to you. Another way to get these recipes is to pick another keyword and add "vegetarian", like "beans vegetarian" or "dessert vegetarian".
Sure wish Apple would let us developers reply in-line to reviews without having to resort to rate our own apps... anyway, happy cooking!

I thought I would write a review that was actually useful:The search option is very useful and friendly to use. Want to search for only "chicken" or maybe you want pasta with it, so look up "chicken pasta". The searches come back with no only names but basic photos of the menu options. For those below that said there are no portion size, well, the top of each recipe does indeed have portion sizes. Very simple shopping lists are provided as well as full cooking instructions, all on one page. Save your favorites or you can email the if you wish too. I'm very surprised this is free. I would honestly pay for this app if it charged.

I was asked a survey question if I would buy it for a small price to keeps the ads down or keep it free. To be honest I would buy it. I like that there were no ad and it moved fast.
I really like this app, I love to cook and I am always looking for new recipes. With in 10 minutes I found 4 recipes I will make to add to the table on Thanksgiving to spice things up. I love that they are right there at my figure tips and I can use it at other peoples homes. Kudo's for making an app that I am truly excited about and will be using all the time.

I've looked at some grocery apps that help you make lists of what to shop for but I've recently abandoned the idea because what I really needed was an idea of what I wanted to make and then to have the list of ingedients listed so I knew what to buy. This app does exactly this! Thank guys and keep up the good work. You've just made my trips to the grocery store a whole lot easier and possibly a little fun.

i really like the feature where if you shake your i.p.t (ipod touch) or your iphone it will come up with a random recipe i haven't actually cooked anything from here yet i have just been browsing through the apetizing recipes' great little app! at one time when i first downloaded it,nothing happened,it took ages to load but thats because i don't think i put wi-fi on there but now i have my wi-fi connection it works perfectly. i would reccomend to tell users about how they might need wi-fi.

I've tried a number of recipies and enjoyed every one. Some of the recipies I 'personalised' to my own taste and was quite impressed with the result. I found dishes here which I had been searching for and also dishes I had forgotten. All at the touch of a button on my I-phone and I can now experience all the food I need for parties and romantic nights in with my lady partner. Other so called food applications / software do not come close..... Marvelous... Highly recommended, thankyou.

Good app. Bit slow sometimes but most of time fine. Recipes are user submitted so you may want to ammend them slightly to your taste. I'm from England and have no problem with there being lots of American dishs. There are plenty of vegetarian options and quite a lot of meat dishes could be changed to suite vegetarians so this is no problem. Also included are diabetic options. Would like to see the application released as a full download to reduce losing times but all in all a very useful app for less money (free) than any cooking book. So there!

So you're at work trying to figure out what to make for dinner. You know what you've got at home, but not sure what you need to get at the store. BigOven's the answer! Instead of going home and looking in your cookbook, just check BigOven. You can even do a search by ingredients, so if you've got ground beef at home and are looking to make something new with it, just do a search and come up with many good ideas. Good for even the kitchen-challenged.

Awesome. I really love all the features and the latest updates. I use this app on my iPhone constantly! I only wish that "my favorites" could be categorized to what type of dish or recipe it is (cookies, main dish) or how it's cooked (no cook, oven, slowcooker). I love being able to use 'favorites' on my phone and then go online if i want to print it or surf from there. I suggest this app to anyone who ever has to cook anything.

For a FREE app, Big Oven offers an excellent, easy to use recipe database. I'm a vegan, and it's not easy to find good recipes, but I did a search on Big Oven, and I now have a "faves" list with hundreds of great recipes! The database contains thousands of recipes and the range and variety is awesome!! They really do have something for everyone! And you can alway send them your fave recipe via email, if they happen not to have it! This app really deserves a 5 star rating! Thanks to the developers for your excellent work, the latest update was great! Keep up the good work!!! 

This is absolutely one of the most useful apps I've ever downloaded! Tons of good recipes! The search engine on it works great & helps u find anything you are looking for. The recipe reviews are helpful too. It's nice to hear what others think or what changes they may have tried on the recipes to alter or improve them. Good to know those things before you try it out yourself. Especially if you are a beginner like me. It's also very educational! The dictionary on this app is wonderful for learning new things about different types of food & ingredients. There is a lot that I still need to learn, so when I come across ingredients or things that I don't know of, I just go to the dictionary & figure it out quickly. It's so helpful! & the random recipe generator on the home page is definitely inspirational. Allows you to come across recipes you might not have ever seen or tried. Just can't say enough good about it! Much better than some of the other cooking/recipe apps I've tried. & for FREE?! I'd easily pay like $3-$5 to have this on my iPhone. Definitely worth it. You can't go wrong. Download it!

I like the wide range of recipes, and the ease of searching. Having both the "Favorites" and the "Try Soon" lists are very useful. The glossary and other information are much appreciated!
Suggestions: Store Favorites and Try Soon recipes locally, because I'm often in places with no cellular or wi-fi. (This could be a user setting.) When there is no network connection, it would be nice if the app could detect this quickly rather than making us wait for a long timeout.
Now I can see that the ads are OK with me.
