This one always stays on my home screen. Just a single click gives you a list of nearby restaurants, gas stations, etc... all sorted by distance. Also has the option to view on a map. Perfect for traveling, when you don't want deal with anything too complicated; it just gives you quick easy results. The only other thing I could ask for, would be to have some sort of ratings or a link to reviews for the restaurants.

Nice look and feel; easy to use. As for some inaccuracies, the problem is with Yellow Pages listings, NOT the app.For example, a nearby food packaging company can be vaguely categorized in the Yellow Pages as "Grocery-Vending-Packaging." With the word "grocery" in the category description, it is included in a search for nearby supermarkets. So use your common sense, and use this app. It's a keeper.

So Thrilled to find this app and just before our trip to TX! We were able to search for restaurants or grocery stores... even hotels and then! to find that it was linked w/ Google Maps!! with the 3G iPhone, we were able to use our current location and get 'real-time' directions to where ever we needed to go!! AWESOME!! and for FREE?! Who can beat it!!? Didn't need the GPS in the rental car -- Saved $12 per day!

Very useful, Better than Vicinity

This is more useful to me than Vicinity, (which is not free). I am using an Ipod Touch, so no GPS, but connect to whatever wi-fi hotspot is in range.The problem I'm having is that the wi-fi location database is often not up to date with the location info. of the hot-spot I'm connected to, so the app. cannot position me. This is not a problem wirh AroundMe- you can manually enter a location and then use the software as intended. This is not possible with Vicinity - an ommision which renders it useless for me. It lists my location as London when I am near Edinburgh! I logged a problem months ago but have heard nothing back.Don't waste money on Vicinity, get AroundMe instead. It works and is free. Have seen some reviews here complaining about inaccurate data. There are also such complaints with Vicinity, with major cities not covered at all. Check the reviews.

I do not understand why so many people are complaining about this app. IT IS FREE! Plus, it gave me better directions than my car's nav system. You can see exactly where you are, you can see exactly where the exits are when you are driving. It gives a great deal of information and the fact that you can do more with this free app than you can with some paid (and might I add, expensive) apps says a lot. I am VERY pleased with this. You can't please everyone, and quite honestly, new places are being built all the time. Even expensive systems or gadgets are not going to give you every single brand new spot that sprouts up.
FREE and nearly perfect! What else can a person ask for?!

I've used this app a lot, mostly closer to home for phone #'s, directions, etc. My best experience yet was my driving trip last week from Kentucky to Texas. I could locate restaurants, gas stations, etc., and know how far away they were. The map was so helpful in determining if what I was looking for was behind me or in front of me. The MOST HELPFUL was being able to zoom in on the map to find our way after turning down the wrong street in a 26' moving van (in the dark) - a lifesaver!! This app is GREAT!! I love it!

I got this app and its been very helpful during my move. It does a wonderful job of not only finding items close by from the list, but it also finds places like "Laundromats" or "Self Storage" without a hitch. My one suggestion would be better placement of the location Pin. It isn't always on the correct side of the road, but this really is nit-picking stuff.
Fantastic app when you're away from home and looking for just about anything!!

Used this app on a recent trip to New Orleans. AWESOME!!! AroundMe helped us navigate the city quickly and easily. I could pull up anything in our area and get step by step directions fast. You can type a word in the search engine, tatoo for example, and it will pull up related items all over the area. It list how far they are from your current location, and you can even get the phone number and call them from the app. SO SWEET!

No bugs, no crashes! Accurate info. Wish there was a back button to take me from a map back to list of results. It's almost like a mini tour guide in the palm of your hand! Very handy points of interest and nearby cities. Love how It incorporates Google maps...so calling a business and adding them to your contacts is a breeze! Only suggestion: add the food type (i.e. Italian, BBQ, Chinese) to the listing results.

This app is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I can't believe it's free. The amount of information it puts in your hand is really nice. It's well laid out and easy to use. I like how it also ties in to maps.
It seems to exit unexpectedly about 50% of the time. I guess that is a "crash"? I hope that is fixed but since this app is used as a reference tool (rather than an app that you would stay logged into for long periods of time) the crashing isn't really an issue. Plus it's free so I didn't take off any stars.

Great app. The listings aren't comprehensive but you get a handful of options, all with address, contact details and directions. The coffee section seems to have a problem- there *are* cafes within 8 miles of me! An improvement would be a bus&train stop section. The train stations are included under 'nearby', but that just opens a mapless wikipedia page. For many people they're more useful than petrol stations!

DFW is a BIG area and we follow kiddos sports to all parts of the metroplex. It is super sweeeeeet to pull up this app in an unknown area and find local establishments like food and atms and gas when needed in a unfamiliar area. I'm a newbie to iphone apps and have been trying lots and this one is my top choice so far. I really haven't run across any dislikes so far. I've been using it regularly for the last month on weekends and every time it has been on spot.

This WAS an great app I have had it for ages now just got the updat and they have completly ruined it with the ads and the apple retail store thing now one in there right mind would go to one of them.Okay for a free app would be a bit dissapointed with it if you had to pay any more than 59p. Please read other reviews before dowloading as everyone has a different view to this app :) But overall it's good so DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL !!!!

This baby is the best! Recently went out with friends and we had to call a nearby restaurant to book. It showed up quickly in the search list, map made it easy to find and phone number made it easy to call them and book. You're not limited to the default category list either. Press the magnify glass icon and enter your own search category, like I did the other day to find local hairdressers. Sweet app! Can't believe it's free!

Apparently this is a pretty popular app, by the number of reviews it gets. I will keet it short:
Good points: gives locations of places quick and accurately. I'd like to know how database was put together so I can know the limitations of data given.
It works fairly fast, and gave me important choices when choosing a restaurant.
Improves: I used it while driving, and it was not the best of ideas. I was going to a restaurant and when I checked again, i could not find it, as my location changed, eventhough not by much. Suggestion: use it stationary, and if you have problems with it, go back to Google Maps thats standard on all iPhones.
What I'd like to see is amusement parks/museums. Also, import addresses from contacts and show what's close. maybe even allow linking to people's locations so you can keep extremely close touch with your friends.
Overall a nice app. I chose it from testing a bunch of similar "digest" apps in appstore. Goodluck in future.

Should easily be the No. 1 free app. The most useful app available works amazingly well as it's linked with the information used by google maps. Find anything within your local area & either call directly, or link straight to maps with directions from your location. Even better with the 3gs. You can even add a location name after your search, to search for anything anywhere, worldwide !!! And.............. It's FREE!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING GET IT!!

I find this enormously useful and have not experienced the crashes that some have reported - but my wife has. I am virtually certain that the cause is some incompatibility between AroundMe and the initial version of the new iPhone OS. Past experience makes it virtually certain that both Apple and Tweakersoft are working on the problem and will have it fixed very soon. In the meantime I think using AroundMe, while a bit of a gamble, is not a big one since most of my acquaintances, if not my wife, have not encountered the problem,

This is a must have app! Very useful. It even came in handy today when someone asked me if I knew if a certain bank was nearby, and was able to tell her exactly where it was in a split second. You can also search by name, and areas by zip code, city, or neighborhood. Shows maps and routes. Find a place, call it, and see how to get there! I haven't experienced any problems with this application. WOW!!!!! I can't believe this was FREE!!!

All the people whining about the ads need to grow up. First off, the makers of this excellent app should get paid. And some of you apparently are willing to pay a buck or two to not have ads. But guess what? Most people are not willing to. And by including ads they are able to get this app out to more people, while making a few bucks. Lastly, I feel like most of you have not even updated to see the ads yet. They are so unintrusive, I dont even notice them. I had 2.0. I could have not updated, but I intentionally did in order to support the developer.
