Fabulous Tool for Family Meal Planners
By: BlackstonM - May 11, 2009
Feel like you cook the same meals week after week? Download this app. I have used it daily for 2 weeks. I love it, & so does my family. I use it for meal planning & while cooking. I also use it in the grocery store. The day I downloaded this app. I visited the grocery store & noticed some fresh trout. I typed "trout" into the Recipe Finder & instantly accessed dozens of wonderful trout recipes complete with preparation instructions, pictures, & shopping lists. Since I started using this app. I have noticed fewer leftovers, less wasted food, & lower grocery bills. I've been cooking a wider variety of healthy, home-cooked meals & saving money. Great FREE app.

This is my favorite app. Very little adds. You can search with a keyword or pick a cattagorie. Another good thing is user reviews and ratings. This is the best recipe app. Trust, me. I also enjoy that you can favorite recipes. Plus, you can make a list for the store with the ingredients for a recipe(s). There is also a tab so you can search reipes with a certine ingreedint or ingreedints. This is my longest review yet and for a good reason. I could not enjoy an app more. Here is the kicker. I'm a 13 year old boy. My mom likes to cook so if I see a recipe she might want to make me, my bro, and the rest of my fammily I favorite it, and tell her later. There is desserts, snacks, appitisers, main ontrays, and (even though I'm not intrested) cocktails. I also left out a few. If your wondering why I'm a 13 year old boy writing such a long review for a free app. Well, the answer is simple. This app is the apsolute best, and I support it fully. Good job guys you finally perfected the perfect app.

Excellent Application. Period.

I don't know why this app only has a 3 rating, because I think this app is easily a 5 app, well worth free-fifty-free . So far, it hasn't crashed once on me. Includes a very large database of recipes, some with pictures. It even includes options for your search, including Occasion, Main Ingredient, Type of Meal (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, etc), and a few others - all optional filters. You can save your favorites to a list. You can also select a recipe to add those ingredients to your shopping cart. Overall, brilliant app. I would definitely pay for this app. Best recipe app I've found so far. A keeper!!

While shopping for Thanksgiving I forgot to bring along a recipe to remind me of needed ingredients. I remembered reading about the new Epicurious app and downloaded it directly to my iPhone. Within 3 minutes I had an even BETTER recipe right in front of me and avoided an extra trip to the jam-packed supermarket. Handsome and intuitive interface, frequent but unobtrusive adds that scroll by with a finger flick. Great tool, well-designed.
a *must have* in my opinion

I LOVE this app! it's wonderful to have a shopping list broken down by sections of the grocery store. I love being able to check off the items if I have them or as I get them. Then, the best part, is turning the phone to break it down into "ingredients" and "preparation." And the BEST, best part? when the iPhone is in "horizontal mode" the phone won't go to sleep! no more hitting the home button and sliding to unlock with oily, messy hands. it's easy and simple. The hardest part is if I haven't used it in a while I'll forget to touch the plus sign to create shopping lists, etc... but that's a problem with my brain, not the app.
To address some of the other reviews:
1) ads... dude, they are only there while the app or recipe is loading ...for like 1.2 seconds. close your eyes if it bothers you. it's a smart way to do something with the time it takes to load. this way they can keep it free.
2) too many recipes... Seriously? someone was suprised when a search for "dessert" came back with 5000 recipes? the two ways to avoid this is to *refine your search!* OR do what I do: I do the inital search on my computer which is faster and easier anyway. then I pull it up on my phone. efficient. and when I wirte about it I don't sound like a simpleton.
One of the best "Free Apps" / Even the Ads Are Tasteful
By: Plantofile - Nov 16, 2009
This was already one of my favorite websites, and this makes it even better. The adds may be full page, but the way they are inserted and go away without requiring you to click through them is very tasteful. I also like the fact that it is partnered with a browser and not pimping a bunch of kitchen junk. As someone who cooks almost everyday and likes to experiment not having to have my laptop in the kitchen has changed my life. I never understood how someone could complain about free apps. In this case if you are actually a cook I don't konw how you couldn't rave about it.

I just dowloafed this app after making New Haven style clam pizza this evening and having used Epicurious on the web in the morning. How much more fun is doing the research on the iPhone by the side of the dough and perched on your kitchen counter or pizza peel.
This app looks really promising. The shopping list is great. Wonder if it will ever dovetail with supermarket delivery services such as Peapod In Boston.
Keep the good job.
Simplified my life

I can go to the market and browse recipes, create a shopping list for tonights dinner as I shop. It's handy at home to pull up classic recipes on my phone instead of printing one or lugging a cookbook. Cookbooks are irrelevant now. The many user reviews are another useful feature for suggestions on how to further enhance the recipe. This is a go-to app for me. It would be helpful if there were a home button and additionalt navigation features.
Great app! Would have paid for it!

I love this app. Great recipes to choose from. I cook regularly from the Gourmet cookbook and their magazines. I was pleased to find a recipe from a current issue of the mag I just read on the app.
The shopping list feature is so convenient. I always use my iPhone to keep my shopping list anyway.
I hope an upgraded version will allow me to categorize my saved/favorite recipes into groups ie. Entree, side dish, etc. So that I can meal plan from the recipes I've chosen instead of scrolling through them all.
One of the best iPhone apps

The recipes are outstanding - Gourmet magazine may have gone but the content lives on. The app is very well done - it loads fast and navigation is great.
It is good for "Alice Waters" style of cooking where you get some fresh food and then want to know what to do with it. Just type in say "carrots and fish" and a bunch of recipes that include both ingredients will come out. I've only cooked 2 meals so far, but both have been delicious.

It baffles me that people don't understand the reason for using 'cups'. Are you people stupid? Or did you miss the primary school maths class on ratios? The whole point is so that you can make the quantity you want while getting the mix of ingredients exactly right. People these days? With regards to the app, nicely built, doesn't crash often and the shopping list feature is excellent. It's free, and the healthy lunches option might be a step in the right direction for the majority of Brits, no, Bangers and Mash isn't good enough, learn how to nourish yourselves and maybe that tire around your waist will shrink a little.
Love it Love it Love it!

The versatility of the search design is excellent and practical for searching based on what one already has in the kitchen or special dietary needs along with many other types of search criteria. Recipes tend to be fairly easy to make and the favorites, email, etc are easy to use. I especially enjoy the creative and improvisional community that post reviews (I too, rarely follow a recipe to the tee) and find them very useful. As for the arrows; they only indicate the direction of touch scroll. I have not had any problems with favorite or email options either. However, you do lose your place after you email so it's best to email from your favorites list rather than in mid search - I do not lose my place after I add to my favorites.
I like this!

Great app...sure,I'd prefer it if the ads weren't there but "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch" (or in this case..dinner,breakfast or cocktail either, heh)
About the only thing I'd like to see added to this app is the ability to switch into different units. As a Brit, this crazy talk of "sticks" and "cups" confuses me. How about lbs & oz.? No need to add the more obscure units like hogsheads, furlongs, grams etc, though
I'm off to start cooking...thanks developers for a superb app.
Love this app

I've managed to delete two other apps which are replaced by this. I personally don't find the ads invasive. There is one when you start it up as with many free apps and instead of a banner taking up the screen space all the time the ad flicks up once in a while when flicking through recipes. Even if some of the drinks recipes are heavily sponsered they actually look really good, and even if mine don't look that good they taste damn good! I have four no problem with the review section so far either. Fav app of the month!
A REALLY great app with beautiful recipes and great functionality, even for those who use metric!

I think this is one of the best designed iPhone apps I have used. I really like the ability to add the recipe to a shopping list. Search is useful. This is a well designed app, and worth the inconvenience of converting units. Besides, I would imagine a future update will probably address the unit conversion in some way or another
I think most users would appreciate the overwhelming positives of this app. Give it a try if you love interesting and great recipes!

This app is the best! I downloaded a few other recipe apps also, but ended up deleting them because this one has it all! I've made dozens of dishes from this app, none were less than fabulous!! The different ways of searching makes it so easy to find a simple weeknight meal, appetizers for the big game, or an elegant meal for dinner guests. The shopping list feature is awesome! I can't BELIEVE this app is free, worth it's weight in gold!! Just wish I could give it more than five stars!!
Excellent App - Easy to select recipes and generate a shopping list of ingredients
By: iMegaDeals - Jul 3, 2009
I liked this application so much, I removed all the other receipe related apps from my iPhone. The easy to use interface makes it very easy to find recipes and generate a shopping list of ingredients. There are two enhancements I would like to see: 1) When selecting 2 or more recipes that have the same ingredients, the shopping list will have two separate items instead of combining them as a total of 1 ingredient. 2) On the favorites section of the app, I would like to have access to the "My Recipe Box" which contains favorite recipes generated within hte Epicurious web site.

... I want to edit the shopping list. Epicurious.com is the first place I check when I'm looking for something to make and can't find inspiration in my own brain or fridge. I really really really like the iphone app. If I could edit the shopping list with other things I need to add outside of epicurious recipes, I'd be thrilled and more likely to use it. Just a text feature, nothing fancy. So, can I have that, huh-huh-huh?
By: Dzanda - May 4, 2009
Since I practically live on Epicurious.com, I was thrilled to see this become available. All in all, it's a pretty polished and very usable app, especially for a v1.0.
One of the coolest features IMHO, is that it generates a very nice, categorically organized shopping list from the recipes you've selected! At first, I thought that it would create a separate list for each recipe (which would be workable, but very kludgy); so I was thrilled when I realized that the app actually makes a single list that includes lists from ALL of the selected recipes. I really love the shopping list feature, and think that that alone makes the app worthwhile.
My only gripe so far is that I'm using it on an iPod Touch, and so I have to find a WiFi hotspot to use all the app's features.
I only awarded 4 stars, because I have to leave room for a higher rating for the next version!
