Description:
Explore your personality - and the science behind it all with Personality, by Signal Patterns. iPhone EDITORS PICK (iphone.tmcnet.com) The Personality iPhone application is the most detailed psychology-based application available on the iPhone. ------------------------------ The Application: Brought to you by the researchers and psychologists at Signal Patterns, Personality uses a novel algorithm that scores unique personality traits rather than rough "buckets" of personality types. To describe each person, the algorithm uses 45 different personality traits, each scored on a separate scale, resulting in extremely unique depictions of one's personality. And once you learned about yourself, you can learn about the science behind the application: -- Watch videos and hear from Science team members themselves discuss the underlying Big 5 Personality theory. -- Read about the psychological models and the key scientists themselves. -- View detailed websites to explore about the application’s scientific theories. -- Share your results on Facebook -- Still interested? Check out a number of books from our team members. ------------------------------ The Science: Personality psychology has gone through a revolution over the past two decades, shifting from the use of simple types into much more specific and detailed trait theory. The leading industry personality model, The Big Five has been shown to be consistent and robust across different languages, countries and cultures, providing a core depiction of human personality. This model is now used by psychologists, human resources experts, counselors and behavioral researchers. In the Big Five model, the emotional, cognitive and behavioral attributes of a person are described by their level of exhibiting the five following traits (or factors): Extroversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability and Openness/Intellect. Signal Patterns’ algorithm uses this model and extends it to 45 specific "facets" of human personality, each facet being a mixture of two of the big five traits.

Surprisingly Accurate By: Emo Techno - 09-Jul-2009 Version: 1.2 I downloaded this thinking it would be another "randomly generated answer" App but I later found out it is surprisingly accurate in determining your deepest personality traits.
Doesn't take long to do and it has many personality traits (very well defined) and a percentage bar to show how much of that trait you have.
Excellent App. I would recommend it. Can't wait to try it on my friends.
5*
Keep reguarly updating it =D
Terrific app By: PsychProf411 - Mar 21, 2009 Version: 1.0 As a personality and social psychology professor, I am often approached by companies interested in applying psychological science to the "real world." Unfortunately, most of them are so focused on making a profit that they do a poor job at translating the research into a user-friendly and actionable application. This is an exception! The "personality" app is both fun AND easy to use AND empirically supported (meaning you can trust the results). This is light years ahead of those Cosmo-style personality quizzes we might remember taking (which have little to no validity). I give this app an A+.
Very comprehensive, very smart By: tmac71 - Feb 25, 2009 Version: 1.0 This was one of the most comprehensive apps I've seen. I usually stick to games and quizes, but thought I'd take the personality test to see what I could learn about myself. The personality test was straight forward, and the videos and articles were great for helping me understand some background about the test and myself. I thought the test was on target with the results. Worth the couple dollars, and it was fun. Also, I can let my wife take the test to see if we matched up ;) More on that later...
Has a lot of potential but still needs some development. By: plan9productions - Mar 3, 2009 Version: 1.0 This application provides a brief pleasant diversion. It is easy to use and the layout is generally clear and intuitive (but see note below regarding the horizontal bars). But after taking the test you can’t help but wonder, “now what?” There are now several good tests available online (with solid scientific credentials, not just the kooky ones), which also provide detailed feedback so it’s not clear why you’d take this one on the phone unless it can provide you something extra (e.g., tying in with local resources that fit your personality; “Hey introvert, there’s a library and poetry store just half a mile away”; “Hey curious person, there are 3 galleries/museums within walking distance”; “Hey sensation seeker, stimulating/exciting events X, Y, & Z are due in your hometown in the coming week”). Another thing the application could do to lengthen its appeal beyond the moment you first take the survey and look at your results is to provide a way to allow your friends to do it too. So you could be in a bar and each of your friends also answer the questions and the app would allow you see everyone's personalities and perhaps offer some cool ways of comparing them (e.g., who is most compatible romantically, who is best suited to become a lawyer). Yet another possibility would be to allow you to compare yourself to different groups (e.g., compared to users in China you are X on this trait). Another would be to allow the application to update questions to refine the scale scores and to update with entirely new tests (e.g., the signal patterns music test). When I got the results, I found the horizontal bars quite hard to read because it’s not clear what the length of the bar represents; for example, the bar listed for scrupulous was very short leading me to thing that I was low on that trait but when I checked, it turned out I was high on that. I assume the scrupulous scale actually runs from scrupulous to ambitious and ambitious is the one that’s associated with high scores. But how are we users meant to know which way it’s scored? If I see a bar and a label doesn’t it make sense to think that the bar is an indication of how high you score on the thing that’s labeled (rather than how high you score on the thing that’s on the opposite pole from the one that’s labeled)? The introduction and write-up about the application talked about it being related to the big five but there was no clear way of connecting these labels to the Big Five. I happen to be a professor of personality psychology so I could figure out which scales went with which of the big five but it’s just possible that some users will not have a phd in personality psychology! Perhaps the bars/labels could be different colors so all the openness bars are in one color, all the extraversion ones in another, etc. This would allow users to get a ballpark idea of where they lay on the big five too. The videos are really quite informative. I liked them. They are just the kind of thing I’d assign to my classes In short, I think this application has great potential but still needs some development before it becomes a compelling mobile application (vs. merely a web application). So the four stars are for what the application could (and I hope will) become, not so much what it offers now.

Accurate for me! By: Charles Clout - 11-Jun-2009 Version: 1.1 What a great app . It was nice with the explanations showing you the opposite of your personality. Recommend.
Wow. By: IHaveAReallyShortNameRight? - 11-Jun-2009 Version: 1.1 This has convinced me it really works. It is long as are the results. But most of the traits are actually true about me! It is actually quite good. I recommend you guys maybe try to shorten it a tad. And I recommend to the readers that you try this app.
Fun and accurate; cool FaceBook integration By: dawg55555 - Aug 11, 2009 Version: 1.4 can tell it is based on real science. nailed me spot on! It's very cool how it connects to Facebook, letting you post your top traits in your feed.

I'm. a hard person to please but I admire the fact that the program analyizes the results to ID the user's personalty
Great By: Hypermage - Jul 2, 2009 Version: 1.2 This really helped me learn about myself.
100% Me By: pibeshere - Jun 20, 2009 Version: 1.1
AWSOME APP!!!!!
For a free app this a amazing By: THE DESTRUCTIONATOR - Jun 20, 2009 Version: 1.1 I took the test and I do feel it got me 80% correct. But it told me I wasn't curious, and I am very curious.
I'm still giving because I probably didn't answer a question or two truthfully. And if you feel it didn't describe you correctly, then maybe you should retake the test.
Amazing By: Me4616 - Jun 16, 2009 Version: 1.1 Awesome!!!!!!!!! Great!!!!!!!!!
