I walked into a frys electronics the other day and found a DVD box set for my dad for $199.99 excited just to find it I was ready to make the purhase! Then I remembered this app I had downloaded earlier so I figured sure why not! I snapped a pic and bought it right there in the isle for 149.99 + 3.00 shipping from amazon! This app works! I would also recommend getting the amazon app with this one therefor you can keep track of gifts if you decide to purchase through amazon withthis app! Gotta love their tracking feature. This app is a must for Christmas shopping this year!!

Great App  rating of SnapTell

This app is really good. I put it through some work with books, dvds, video games, and comics. It handled everything well but the comics where hit or miss for example it would find issue #10 but not #11. In the apps defence it never said it would do comics. This app would be amazing if it was a little better in understanding what you want, and reconized other products like electronics ie. Tv, dvd players, computer parts, and other tech products.

I don't stumble into very many apps that I feel compelled to review, but this is one that I have to say something about... It's great! Works exactly as described and is amazingly accurate so far. I hate when I'm at the store looking at a book, game etc and if I want to know more about it, have to open Safari on my phone and do a search. This is so much faster and convenient. I think it's awesome - keep up the great work!

Kudos to Snaptell!  rating of SnapTell

This is the type of app that gets us excited! Ebayers out there are going to go WILD as they shop for hot items to list in their stores-those items you used to run home and research and hope the merchant still had in stock after you learned it was a gem! I am hopeful Snaptell will incorporate additional products into the database...you better get it NOW while it's free-this is phenomenal. I see potential for this company to become an eBay certified seller tool. Thank you.

I'll try to be polite. If you don't like this app, there's something wrong with you or your iPhone. . Remember, the app says it works for books, video games, movies... you can't complain if it doesn't work for something else. This app correctly identified a book with copyrights from 1922 through 1988. It also recignized numerous games, movies, and books. While this app is free, it should cost at least $2.00. In other words: get it!

I Highly Recommend This  rating of SnapTell

I don't know how many times I've been at Borders, or Barnes & Noble, and have seen a book that interested me, but wasn't worth the price in my opinion. So I would discreetly snap a pic of the cover with my phone to remind me later, to get on the web and see if I could find it for cheaper. Getting the pic was the easy part. This app does the rest. I know I will get much use out of this. I tested it on some lesser-known titles and it still correctly identified the book. I am amazed!

Great app with tons of utility!!!  rating of SnapTell

This is an amazing application with potential to be come one of the best. It recognizes just about any book or CD I point at it, even if the picture is poor. In future versions, it would be great if the app could pull up an instant price comparison and even let you create separate lists - one for books, another for gifts and so forth. Overall though, this is one of the best apps I've come across - its a truly functional app that everyone with an iphone should have installed!

Very slick app  rating of SnapTell
By: Undertones987 - Nov 19, 2008
Version: 1.1
It's worked extremely well and has only failed to turn up results on very few occasions. But this apps ability to constantly come through with results in situations where you wouldn't expect it to totally makes up for it. In one situation I snapped a picture of a character named "Aya Brea" (the protagonist in a PS1 video game called Parasite Eve) out of a really old Gamepro magazine. It's a somewhat obscure game that isn't well known. In the picture all you could see was her, no text or anything else, and it still came up with Parasite Eve! That means that this could be used for more than just media product covers! If you capture an image containing the likeness of any well known characters there's a good chance it will produce results telling you where they're from! This seems to work more often with video games and cartoons since they have much more specific features in their characters. But I did take a picture of Seth Rogan's face (no text just his face out of a magazine) and I got results for the DVD "Knocked Up". I LOVE THIS APP!!!

Money Saver  rating of SnapTell

Fantastic! If nothing else it has been good to teach my kids about price comparison. It also puts the brakes on their impulse buying when they see they can save money just by buying form a different retailer. And if I can delay them they will usually forget about it. This app was great over the Xmas buying season. Works great. Works quickly. It is faster over wifi. I am using first generation non3g iPhone and the through put us acceptable over cell networks.

Works amazingly, even with terrible photos; built-in web searches are lacking  rating of SnapTell
By: M A 4 - Oct 7, 2008
Version: 1.2.3
I tried a bunch of stuff, and got zero failures. Some of the challenges it beat:
* A 20-year-old book seen in near-darkness
* A CD box set in a plain cardboard sleeve with no imagery, just one tiny line of black text the camera couldn't focus on
* A 2-inch thumbnail of "Aliens" (a very dark image) on the computer SCREEN--with the camera so close it was an unreadable blurry mess, with other screen clutter intruding at the edges
* A page-a-day calendar
* A game CD jewel case but not the box it came in
* Low light, partially cut-off images that I didn't even bother to hold still for!
* TPB comics
* Sideways images, upside-down images, images at a diagonal, and images in completely-askew corner-on receding perspective
* Images taken at a distance so the product was small in the view--and way off center
* Images with huge irregular glare blobs obcsuring the glossy cover
SnapTell identified all of the above on the first try. It takes its place alongside Shazam on my iPhone.
(Some quirks: The optional web searches appear in SnapTell's own webkit browser view, which lacks some basic things like Back and Bookmark--I'd rather stick to Safari. But for quick info it doesn't much matter. And the UI does weird things if you start the picture-taking with the phone already rotated. Lastly, it would be cool if they added an iTunes Search alongside the Amazon, Yahoo and Google. Maybe RottenTomatoes and IMDB too?)

Ok... This is free, GET IT if for nothing else it is amazing how well it works, I am just going around my house snapping pictures trying to get it to screw up, and it has been perfect so far, this is truly amazing... Between this and Shazam, finding and purchasing media on the go has never been easier. UPDATE: OK, this thing just found a random Disney book from my childhood that was printed in 1983!

One of my favorite apps. I use it in stores and also when browsing amazon.com on my phone in safari. When you find a book in Amazon, hold your finger on the image to save it to your photo library. Then open this app, browse for the image, and it will locate it in it's database. Perfect for bookmarking books, videos and more. I love having it with me for when I head to the local library or video store.

92% Match for me  rating of SnapTell
By: Enjoying28 - Dec 18, 2008
Version: 1.2.0
This is a very useful App. It can match a lot of things and do it fast. But there data base of items needs some more items every item that i tested that was in there data base of image it match 100% of the time. any item like another item in there data base but not in it it match to that 100% of the time. So for me that means that they only have 80% of the thing that i want to lookup in their database. 12% was match to things very close but differnet for example the video game persona 2 for the PS is not in there database but the guide book for that game is so you get the book not the game. Then there is the 8% of stuff I have that is just not in there database.
If the company added a feature that allowed no match and miss matches too be fixed in app and sent back too them for review and addition to the data base (like google image labeler) I think the miss matches and no matches would become almost non-existent

This app blows my mind! It doesn't seem like this technology should exist yet, but it does!  rating of SnapTell
By: It'sAllGoodToMe - Apr 2, 2009

As you're using this app, your mind spins thinking of all the different ways it could be used, especially when the day comes when the SnapTell "brain" can accept all the different brand names out there in the world. Need some information on whether to buy that camera? Read all about it! Product info, where to buy, other cameras that are similar, reviews on the camera, comparison pricing....whew! The mind reels at the possibilities. This app is an example of why Apple invented the iPhone. Too cool.

TRULY TRULY TRULY COOL  rating of SnapTell
By: Writer Director-Cold Play - Dec 16, 2008
Version: 1.2.0
This is my very first app review though I've got more than 120 apps on my iPhone. I can't believe this is free and I don't even think most people are seeing the unbelievable potential. Here's just one (mind bending) application of this app. I'm walking through Blockbuster. I'm thinking about renting the indy film, COLD PLAY. I take a picture of the cover of the box. Seconds later I'm watching the movie's trailer on YouTube, right there in Blockbuster. If you rent movies on Netflix - not all the movies listed there have a trailer. So I took a picture of my computer screen of the movie that didn't have a trailer, and seconds later I'm watching the trailer on my phone. FANTASTIC JOB SnapTell.

Definitely One of the Better Apps  rating of SnapTell
By: Qshayshay21 - Feb 22, 2009
Version: 1.2.2
I was weary of this app at first to provide accurate information, but it proved its worth the other day at my local bookstore. I was searching for a couple of books and just wanted to see the limitations of this app. The application returned accurate information and prices approximately 95% of the time. The information was correct in both respects to online and other local store pricings. Needless to say, I didn't purchase the books at that particular bookstore, and saved around $4 per book taking SnapTell's advice. I would have paid a couple of dollars for this app., but of course I can say that now that I have gotten it for free.

This is one of the apps I use to show how cool iPhones are!  rating of SnapTell
By: webwyrm - Feb 19, 2009
Version: 1.2.2
It works as described- snap a cover of media item, get local *and* online prices, with additional links to sites like eBay, too! It rarely misses; so far, only some oddball packaging that probably foils whatever cool database search it does. When I want to wow a new iPhone user or non-iPhone user, this is one of the apps I use most.
I'm really hoping they expand into other products someday- but I'm enjoying what they're covering now...
Get it, try it, love it!

I normally do not write reviews, but this app just amazed me! It not only finds the info, but the lowest to higest price, wiki info and different websites about the product and more. FYI just make sure the picture comes out clear, if not retake the pic and it should work. I would like to see an update soon where you can take a pic of bar codes and also clothing product to get more info. With the conclusion this app for being free and the quality of the profitmance itsimply impressed me! p.s. I took a pic of a splenda sugar pac and it pulled up price info and cooking books for splenda, AMAZING!

Jawdropping--please add UK info soon!  rating of SnapTell
By: dockwray - 15-Jan-2009

Simply extraordinary. This is the first app I show to anyone who is mildly curious about my iPhone and it always leaves them speechless. It's yet to fail (even for more obscure academic tomes) and has even worked when photographing a book through a shop window. I use more as a way of noting books/CDs I'd like to buy in future rather than buying straight away, but if you could add UK prices that would be even better...
