A very good app

I tried it out and I like the interface. It didn't have a problem locating my location or connecting to Google Maps to show where the business' location. In my business I often work at my client's business. Since I am not always familiar with the area it will be nice to have an application in my phone to help me find things. I have also downloaded Yelp that finds businesses, but YPmobile also shows events. Good start.

There is a small Mexican restaurant near my house and I wanted to call to see what time they opened. I tried to find it using the "Maps" app and it didn't show up. I also tried using "Yelp" but no success there either. I opened up YPmobile and it automatically did a search for nearby businesses and guess what? - There was the little Mexican restaurant that I was searching for. Maybe YPmobile has a better database. Maybe they just have more listings. I don't know, but I know it works!!! Thanks!

This app works really well for me. It lists all the correct businesses around where I live. Those of you who can't find anything are probably doing something wrong (for instance, try searching in your city instead of SF) or have an unstable internet connection to your iPhone. This app and yellowpages.com I think pull from the same database, so there should be no difference. This is really great for a free app.

I had this app when it first came out and found that it didn't do enough until the update came out!!! It's great and has found a placeo n my front page taking over Where To. As for those who gave this a bad rating because you are unable to figure out how to type, return your iPhones and get pagers! YES YOU CAN SEARCH OUTSIDE OF WHERE YOU ARE LOCATED... FYI you type city and state in the SEARCH BAR. . I have a great chance to win the YP contest, mainly due to the fact that there are so many people with absolutely no common sense!!! Reviews should be awarded to those who have obtained a highschool diploma... MINIMUM!!

This 2.0.5 version is improved vs 2.0 ( which was horrible). With that said I love this version It does what the original version did as far as finding things closest to you and linking to google maps for driving directions. It also has more information about businesses, email among others. Just took a second getting used too. By far the best application for local search with more relevant results.

This app is very addicting, I love that I can simply type concerts or comedy and the results are pretty accurate. I tested that theory because I'm going to many of the shows this app displayed in the results. I really wish on the next update they would add the following 1. Retain all information when you save to "my plans" ie TICKET PRICE! As well as the other original info displayed or if anything give us the option to revisit that page without having to search for that event again 2. Be able to sort your result by genre of entertainment and venue. 3. Be able to save an act as a favorite after you marked it in "my plans". Otherwise I really enjoy this app and it's one of my top 5 I use daily several times a day.

How about people from the UK who travel to the US???

Some people actually leave this country occasionally. They sometimes go to America. They might like information and advice while there, and if apps like this aren't available on the UK Store, they won't be able to use them - because when you're roaming you're connected back to your home store. So if you want US-relevant apps, they have to be available in the UK.
How is this *so* hard for people to understand???

@ Drusus and others - it's not Apple's fault if UK businesses are failing to provide equivalent apps for the UK. Apple are not blocking UK apps in the store - it's a lack of dynamism on the part of UK developers. And people who *do* travel outside this country once in a while are grateful for US-based apps being available in the UK store, otherwise we wouldn't be able to access them (as you'd know, if you'd travelled outside the country with an iPhone). Not in UK store = people from UK can't use them, even when in the relevant country. And yes, I've made this point in relation to several apps - just as some reviewers have merrily trashed every single US-based app they can find, without ever using them.
We *get* that US-based apps don't work here. Can we move on, and start rating apps on how good they are in the country for which they're intended?
Has anyone actually tried this app? At all???

Great categories and speed, geographically limited

Wonderfully quick for common categories and searches close to current location or a specified location. Suggested categories were better than most browsers as they were geared to business listings only rather than all topics. Very quick even on an old 1st issue iPhone on the E network, not WiFi. And, found my current location and new listings as my train came above ground for 1 - 2 minutes periodically on the trip home. Weakness same as hard copy Yellow Pages, listings were specfic to a city/county. For some regions, like mine, that means multiple searches for inquiry. Strengths outweigh weaknesses by a lot. I've been using daily and look forward to the updates.

The app opened and asked to use my location, so I got tons of listings for restaurants in my area. I tried a couple of other business categories, and it seemed to work well, except that the info was random. I understand the distance option not being alphabetical, but the popular and sponsor could be easier to use if listed alphabetically, maybe similar to the phone book in the iphone. I'm in Vegas, so I got tons of events and again, no in any particular order. All in all, it's a great app, though.

Update: please allow us to copy the website URL from the details screen like you used to. The inbuilt browzer takes you there but there is no place to copy the URL for gods sake! Also, please restore sort by date, why would you take that away??? Original review below I liked the on the go yellow pages part but I really like the events feature. It's great how it collates all the stuff that's going on around you, allows location, email sharing, event plan composition. This is a great app and it's free!

The previous version was more intuitive, but this one is still great. You always have the choice to search somewhere (put the city name after the business name) OR search "near me.". Then, once you have an initial list, I like the "search nearby" function. There are some updates needed (like chain restaurants' new locations not added yet), but over all I like this better than other local/search-near apps. This is AT&T, folks. Give it time, the investment is there, the functionality will continuously improve!

Useful with some gaps!

There are a few things it doesnt have, but if you are somewhere and you know what store/business you need, especially by name, this does a good job of fodning and mapping to it. It was a litttle difficult to get it to let go of my first location and use the current location, but after that, it was great.
It didnt have the Raley's at Robb and Mae Anne in Reno-Sparks, but it did have like 7 others. Some gaps in the data, but aside from that, lots of good stuff...like the event listing.

The only reason I have given this four stars is because I've only had it for a day. I am using it on my iPod touch and it works great. I just searched for restaurants near my current location and it came up with 53 results ( I live just outside of Madison, Wi, so I think this is a pretty good number) And they weren't all fast food places either. It works very well with google maps to get directions. Love this app. It even gave all (or most, not exactly sure) of the restaurants in the Malls.
I do wish that when there are more than one subway, mcdonald's etc, that there was an option to list it as one and then list all the locations within.

Further update:The events listing when sorted by date lists all events regardless of popularity.The workaround is:- sort by date- then go back to the searchscreen and search again this time not sorting by date etcYou will now events listed by poularity but also starting after the date you specified earlier.Also, you van specify any city not just the current location so I don't know what the complaining is about. You guys really beefed up this app...there seem to be more results that come up with each search. I was actually able to locate more businesses using your app than with my desktop!!! I've read a few of the other reviews and the only issue I would agree with is the proximity seach option. Please bring it back. I liked being able to find the closes "whatever I needed" to where I was currently located. Also, if you could throw in voice recognition searching that would be perfect!!! Thanks...rcp

This app is very easy to use and has a simple and clean interface. I searched for restaurants in my home town and it had places listed I had never even heard of, and I've been living here for 16 years now. If the app can't find you, you can simply type in your location. Also the events tab is great if you ever want to do out and do something but you don't feel like skimming through every local newspaper for something.

AWESOME app! I'm addicted to Events and it's about time that someone invented a way to share multiple items with multiple friends. And it finds my location like Google Maps. Love it!

one must have app. finds what you need by general name (ice cream store) or by specific name (Baskin Robbins), points it on map, gives directions, phone #, even many places Google photo from street! amazingly handy- and free!
