Description:
Eponyms brings a short description of more than 1'700 common and obscure medical eponyms (e.g., Rovsing's sign, Virchow's node) to your iPhone or iPod touch. A perfect tool to quickly look up the meaning of any eponym. It uses the beautiful eponym database from Andrew J. Yee (http://www.eponyms.net/) who still maintains the database, updates can be installed right from within Eponyms. *** Features: • More than 1'700 eponyms, updates can be downloaded right from within the App • Full text search • 28 categories as well as the full list • Customizable "starred" list to keep track of the eponyms you tend to forget or which you know to be favorites of your professor ;) • List of recently accessed eponyms • Learn mode *** Learn Mode: After enabling learn mode in the preferences (accessible from the category overview screen by tapping the (i) button): • Shake your device sideways in order to display only the name of a random eponym • Shake it up and down to only display the description of an eponym In both cases, a "Solve" button appears which displays the missing information. Learn mode randomly displays eponyms from the category you're currently visiting (or you've last visited). So you can either learn eponyms from a given category, only the ones that you've starred or just all of them. *** Non-students: This is the free student version. Please only download the free version while you (still) are a student.

Reviews:
Not only good, but respectful By: cjmike - Aug 6, 2008 Version: 1.0.1 The application is extremely useful! As a student it is always nice to be able to look things up quick and easily. On top of that, the author has been gracious enough to allow a free version for students! I would beg anyone who is NOT a student and using this program for work or any way you earn more money than a student, buy the other version!!! :) ps, i have no relation at all to the author, I just find his/her generosity extremely respectful
Re depression, bipolar and coccidiowhatever By: anonymous eponym - Jul 14, 2009 Version: 1.1 This is a great little app. It is a useful but very limited type of medical dictionary, just like an app that listed only "syndromes" and their definitions would be, and it doesn't pretend to be anything more than that. It's fun just to read down the list for personal education or for prep for a board exam. Mine hasn't crashed (iPhone 3GS), no problems to report. I would suggest that users who can't find "depression" or coccidiowhatever refer to a regular dictionary first so they know what an eponym is, then a medical dictionary for a definition of the non-eponymous term in question.
Shame on you careless reviewers! By: EmergencyFiddle - May 2, 2009 Version: 1.1 Seriously. I came by to write a short note thanking the app developers and requesting a new feature and then found myself enraged by some of these idiotic and careless reviews.1) If you are going to waste your own time and everyone elses, not to mention degrade the economic value of someones hard work, you should at least bother to find out what the app is FOR! Just because you are too uneducated to know and too lazy to look up in a dictionary what an eponym is, is not an excuse for giving a low rating to someones work.2) Eponyms is a simple and easy to use reference for medical eponyms. I'm a doctor and I have not yet looked up an eponym that wasn't in the database. It's fast, simple, and has no bugs. This is clearly a four or five-star implementation of a reference for a very specific data set. 3) also, just because YOUR iPhone crashes after using a particular app does not prove that there is anything wrong with the app itself and should not warrent a negative review. Please limit your rating to the app itself and not you defective piece of hardware.Ok. Well, with that off my chest, let me thank the developers for a job well done and for a very useful app.A feature that I would like to have and that should be relatively simple to implement would be to have a 'study' mode in which you would be shown a random eponym and then could reveal the definition, like a flashcard. (it would be good to have the reverse too where the definition is shown and you have to remember the eponym...)Anyway, thanks again, hope you read this and considering adding that feature.Cheers
Great application for all Med students By: LivMed - 03-Aug-2008 Version: 1.0 Great app!! Great idea, I was looking for an of such focus. Very usefull, informative and a definite for any Med student put there!! Easy to use, straightforward and works perfectly.
For future updates and improvements I would like to see the use of diagrams, illustrations and flow charts! Also a section where you are able to test yourself would be great and ideal.
A suggestion to developers of designing a similar app focused on the core case frameworks of the key common disease and presentations!
A huge thanks to developers.
P.S. It's FREE!! Would definetly pay for this!!

Love It!!! By: Emedic121 - Feb 22, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Fantastic!! I couldn't ask for a better App of Eponyms.I even love the fact how everything is broken down into categories of body systems. Sure it doesn't have everything out there, it's not a Harrison or anything, but definitely good when you need to quickly look up something. Could be updated from time to time but it's still good for m.. As for anyone who disagrees, this App like any other one is not supposed to have everything out there and def not to do our job, that's why we went to school for.
Superb... By: Trismegistus - 11-Aug-2008 Version: 1.0.1 ...very helpful for those such as myself who can remember the procedures for e.g. Apley's but not always the name and hence have difficulty in writing up notes, however for this reason it would be nice to be able to search for key words (in this example, 'meniscal tear' or some such). However, extremely good as a quick reference if you see an eponym in case notes. It would also be good if there were a more general medical dictionary app availalbe (Whaddya say, Pascal...?)
P.A.student By: Perreo D - Oct 8, 2008 Version: 1.0.1 Playing medical jeopardy, I used this application to show to the judges that they were wrong about an answer to a question. I like this app., needs updates and needs a section called "triads".

Awesome! A great downtime review for physicians... By: Zorchy - Aug 14, 2008 Version: 1.0.1 I love this. When I've got a moment or two between patients, I'll just glance at a few of the catagories to stay fresh on the variety of conditions described. Keep up the great work!
