Fractional excretion of calcium...YES!

Finally a great calc app that includes fractional excr of calcium. You can even choose between different units such as mg/dL, mmol/L, and mg/L. The result is output as a percent; if you want to convert this to the fraction number, just need to know to convert this yourself by moving the decimal to the left 2 places. This calculation can also be used to calculate the "calcium-to-creatinine ratio" to rule out FHH; you just input the 24 hr urine #'s instead of the mg/dL #'s. Bonuses: categories, can search for formulas, saves recently used formulas in a special tab as well as allows you to 'star' formulas which can be used as your favorites folder. Developer is responsive to comments. Great app and it's free!

With a few colleagues we have compared MedCalc to the other commercial and non-commercial apps available on the app store, and it definitely seems MedCalc is the best calculator. Thank you Dr Tschopp and Pfiffner for your open source application!
We wish only Apple would better highlight quality 'free' apps, or have a unified listing including both free and paid apps, as in this case the paid ones (some almost 5$!) just didn't compete. I have a few colleagues that definitely felt a bit ripped off by the price of some of the alternatives, but hey, it's just a few bucks anyways...

I like the calculator and all of it's functions! I'm a respiratory therapist- so I play around on this a lot trying to utalize it in my work. I'd love to see RSBI (Rpaid Shallow Breathing Index) available as a calculation. It's respiratory rate (frequency) divided by tidal volume (ml). It's also been shown that RSBI can be calculated this way: RSBI = RR / (MV/RR) (where RR is respiratory rate and MV is minute volume). The first calculation is most common. The units are typically bpm/L. This calculation was developed as a weaning parameter. Thanks for a great and helpful product and I look forward to more calculations! Thanks!

Amazing, intuitive app! I only really use it for paed fluid calculations and QTc, but has other equations which I'm sure I will use in the future. Cannot recommend it enough, keep up the great work guys! And it's free - amazing!
