Reviews:
Great resource for quick information during my inpatient ward rotations By: Digger Dog - Aug 9, 2009 Version: 1.3 It is a great resource. I use it often and it saves me time when otherwise I would have to find an unused computer or text book to answer a quick medical question, especially regarding definitions. It also has useful Appendices and Images. Honestly, I didn't purchase access to Taber's until I discovered the iPhone application. I really get my money worth now, and use it more often on my phone than on my laptop. The application is simple, however that is fine, I'm usually just looking for quick answers. For those of you who review this without reading the Application Description on the top left of the Taber's Application Page... really? How could they be any more clear? Taber's is a reliable and comprehensive medical resource online. If you have subscription, then this free application is a great way to take advantage of that subscription while on the move. If you don't have a subscription to their service, then you shouldn't be downloading this application anyway. It does not provide a way of view for free the material that they provide online. It is unfortunate that you skew the rating of this application because you don't take the time to read the description prior to downloading it.
Requires subscription, but worth it By: julianad - Jul 26, 2009 Version: 1.3 Even though this app is "free" on iTunes, it requires a subscription to download the content. That is actually good news for current subscribers of Unbound's Tabers because you can move your subscription from your Palm or Win mobile device to iPhone without paying anything extra. New users need to purchase a subscription ($49) but what you get is fantastic. Unbound's version has tons of photos, audio pronunciations and is very easy and intuitive to use on the iPhone. Highly recommended!
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! By: Surffiend - Jul 11, 2009 Version: 1.3 Definitely don't buy if you plan to upgrade your phone or have a bug and need to contact customer service. Im a physician and thought the $50 fee was reasonable, but I bought the new iphone 3GS/changed my phone# and I am no longer able to access Tabers. When I try to login, it denies me access and says to call customer service. When I called customer service, I always got an answering machine which said they will call you back in 1 business day. THEY NEVER CALLED BACK!!!! I've left a message nearly everyday for a 2 weeks, still no call back. I'm definitely not paying another $50 just to get this dictionary, and I will tell all my colleagues to never buy from Unbound out of pure principle.
Ignore 2-star rating from those who can't be bothered to read the app's description By: Jdk690 - Jun 13, 2009 Version: 1.3 many of whom are also among those who expect something for nothing. This app is a free iPhone/iTouch interface for the Taber's Dictionary which, like most if not all things of value in this world, costs money. There are a number of apps on the appstore which don't cost anything to download but require membership or purchase of something elsewhere in order to function. This is one of them. It works very well as an interface for Taber's Medical Dictionary. I *much* prefer Unbound's interface for common medical references such as Taber's to that of the competition, ie Skyscape. (Note that skyscape avoids getting bashed for a "free but not free" app by providing a few free chunks of content with it's reader/interface app. If you want Taber's through skyscape, however, you'll still have to pay for it.)
Convenience By: Daniel Marrero - Apr 3, 2009 Version: 1.2 First thing you should know is that its not free, but that said, this App is very useful, its got pictures and audio, were it pronounces the words for you, its full of information the same that you would find in the book, but it’s a lighter version of it, you don’t have to carry that book around, you have some extra space in your backpack and the information is right in your fingertips, convenience isn’t that what the iPod and iPhone were made for?
Nursing Student "Must Have!" By: Sdclose - Mar 6, 2009 Version: 1.1 I almost dropped my iPhone (in excitement!) when I first discovered the availability of Taber's on the app store. I've been using the Palm PDA version of Taber's for a year now and love it. The new version here on the app store also provides users with all of the "figures" that were previously not available in the PDA versions. The outstanding figures take advantage of iPhone and iPod Touch’s unique ability to zoom in and out and include such things as the heart and cranial nerves among a thousand others. The program is also "self contained" meaning that after you download and purchase it you no longer need to connect to the web to use it, unless updating the software which is included for a year. I can't get over how amazing it is to have one of the best medical encyclopedias in my pocket with the amazing interface Apple has provided. Flawless! This is a "must have" for nursing students.
Awesome App!!!! By: NMD2B - Feb 11, 2009 Version: 1.1 I have been surprised (in a good way) by the amount of information I got in this app... True, I needed to get a subscription to Unbound for $50, but after the initial download, I now have SO MUCH information at my fingertips... wherever I go... (no internet required to access info after the initial download!) It really is so worth the money! Just think, we spend more than $100 on one textbook, which just sits on our shelves most of the time... But, this book, and all it's info, travels with you! I had some questions while setting it all up and the Unbound people were very prompt and helpful! Overall, I'm very impressed!!
come on! By: Lunash - Oct 10, 2009 Version: 1.3 After much hesitation due to negative reviews, I purchased the Taber's. I already own the hard copy of the 20th edition but really needed it for work on my ipod touch. It works so far. Same content and info as the hard copy! You get the updates for a year, but get to keep the Taber's dictionary on your ipod touch. Also, you do not need wifi connection to access the info (except for the first download and the updates as well as the pronounciation feature), which was a big concern when I purchased the dictionary. However, I agree that the "free program" classification can be misleading. Hey, the book sells for $35, it's not going to be free.
Good dictionary, laggy program By: John4053 - 19-Feb-2009 Version: 1.1 The dictionary itself is very good, going beyond simple definitions on many terms to include clinical guidance and images. Audio for pronunciation is handy but it's a shame that it needs to access the internet every time rather than storing the sound files on your phone. The installation process is somewhat clunky (presumably to get around paying Apple a cut in the iTunes store), but the upside is that they let you "buy" the software rather than "renting" a subscription. My biggest issue with the program is how long it takes to load and then how long it takes to bring up and index once the program has started - a big drawback if you just after a quick definition on the wards or in a lecture. Hopefully this will improve in updates
Buy a subscription, download the app! By: Dr PG - Sep 15, 2009 Version: 1.3 The app is FREE, subscription is NOT. Reading is so overrated!!
READ THE DESCRIPTION By: HyBR!D - Sep 8, 2009 Version: 1.3 This is a very useful app provided you already have a Taber's subscription. Quite simply, its an app that acts as a free interface for a seperate service which happens to require a subscription, much in the way bloomberg's app can act as a free interface for the Bloomberg Anywhere service.
Tom H. By: tadnjj - Sep 7, 2009 Version: 1.3 I have used this product for years now, and I find it the best reference on the market. There is none better. Tom H. RN
Better than lugging around the books to clinicals! By: MNDA - Aug 20, 2009 Version: 1.3 Yes, you have to pay for the actual dictionary. You have to pay for the paper version as well. This interface is great, and I like that I have my Taber's in my pocket. An indespensable resource made even more indespensable!

Worth Every Penny :-) By: Sammysags - Aug 9, 2009 Version: 1.3 As someone who has just come off a serious illness, this is an actual lifesaver. Information means 'no-stress,' and 'no-stress' is VITAL. The title says it all. Stay positive!!

excellent resource at your fingertips By: jules182_ - Jul 6, 2009 Version: 1.3 bought because started nursing school and already proved invaluable, having this on your phone instead of lugging around the heavy book is such a convenience! yes it's 50 bucks, but it's worth it!
