Reviews:
Great radio app! By: Zipbow - Jul 15, 2008 Version: 1.0 I've tried playing back the music on both WiFi and EDGE (don't have a 3G yet). Audio quality on EDGE connection is a bit poor (but it streams pretty well), and the music sounds great on WiFi. UI is very intuitive. The app provides quite a vast selection of music genre, and the song selections are decent too. Although apps aren't allowed to run in the background, the music does continue to play when the phone is locked, which is a nice feature.
Nice One AOL & CBS 10/10 Stars By: ryanstune - Dec 31, 2008 Version: 1.2.1 I'm a KCRW addict, greatest station on planet earth, hard to find a reliable Radio App, I've paid and tried most and Wunder is pretty okay, the Rogue Amoeba one is just two expensive for to little (Audio Hijack is great guys but your app is an insulting price). I found the most reliable to date for me was "Tuner" it has a pretty basic UI but works nicely. Low and behold I discovered this and it's awesome, amazing and like the AOL /CBS powered Web based website it's awesome. Nice One AOL for the best Radio app there will ever be, I'd have paid 20bucks for this.
The best of them all. By: Satrad lover - Jul 25, 2009 Version: 1.2.4 Other than exclusive content on Sirius/XM that requires one to use that app, this is probably the best radio app for music. It has a LOT of choices, but doesn't overwhelm like some others. As for the music, it's not really internet radio, which implies a convergence of internet and radio, but pure internet music, so it's a better experience overall. It's very intuitive, displaying album art and artist information, and allows users to tag music for later purchase. A great app!
Amazing on EDGE 2g 2.1 firmware By: Goldy540 - Jul 23, 2009 Version: 1.2.4 What can I say. So far it's flawless. Station variety is dynamite. Would never make the time or effort to find a comedy station without a program like this. People with buffer problems must have local area issues. Mabey reeboot would help free up memory. So far most of NYC IS GREAT. Would be nice to be able to run in backround like iPod music. Mabey next upgrade. Love it either way. Thanks.
For upgrade problem try to delete and reinstall fixes bug.
Thank You! By: supernew - Jul 14, 2008 Version: 1.0 I live on Kauai in the middle of the Pacific, and now with this ap, I can listen to stations back in the mainland that I miss, such as KCRW, KROQ, WFAN, WBBM newsradio, etc.... in addition to world music and even Hawaiian music radio stations via AOL radio. A truly great application, I can hook up the iPhone to my car stereo and drive into work listening to some great radio stations. Thank you AOL and Apple!
Greatest App ever to have By: EDiva75 - Nov 25, 2009 Version: 1.2.5 I have discovered radio stations in other cities in which I am able to pick up listening to my regular radio shows (Steve Harvey & Michael Basiden). I've also discovered stations in cities in which I have now become interested in other things to listen to such as black talk radio in Atlanta, conservative radio stations in Charlotte and Philly (to listen to those of that ilk) as well as Progressive talk radio in Seattle, WA. So I have a nice well rounded outlook on all aspects to listen to thru downloading of this app. I hope it also allows you to broaden your radio listening as well!
the kind of stations I like. By: Cheeseburgerz - Jul 7, 2009 Version: 1.2.4 the app store lacks a good radio app. this is what I happen to realize. radio app is a broad term. radio could be Internet radio, or radio stations from France. Every app in the store has a number of stations, and people rate the apps lower than they should just because they don't have station they like instead of the apps preformance. This app is really nice, it works great, has a huge list of stations, categories, and genres. Try to ignore the three star rating and give it a try, if it does appeal to you due to the stations, try another app and give it the benefit of the doubt.
We ask, they listen By: BigB1814 - Jul 25, 2008 Version: 1.0 The last time I reviewed this I only gave it 4 stars b/c it wouldn't let you play the AOL stations over 3G. It looks like they must have fixed that because now I can listen to all the great AOL stations at work and even while driving in the car! There us still a volume issue but honestly it is already quite load, pluged in through AUX in I don't even turn it all the way up. I think that this app and a few others for net radio streaming are really finally going to make web radio a viable modle.
Needs Some Tweaking, But Free and Great By: DisneyEcho - Jul 2, 2009 Version: 1.2.3 Under 3.0 operating system on 3GS the AOL Radio App can stop for no reason or time out. Please fix. I use the App frequently to listen to syndicated talk shows in situations when I cannot have access to a radio to listen to local affiliate or to listen to these shows when local affiliate time shifts the show to late hours and I'd rather listen live. If developer can solve the stopping-timing out issue I'd give this five stars! It's free. Makes keeping up with syndicated talk shows no matter where you are (use earphones) easy. Great App!
Lovee it! But little request By: TiaraMarie. - Dec 16, 2008 Version: 1.2.1 I absolutly love this app! I use it everyday of my life! But the only thing I wish it could do is to continue playing once u exit the app because if one of my favorite songs is on and I recieve an e-mail I have to exit to read it and then by the time I'm done my song is over): I understand if it's impossible to fix that but if not please do! and it would also be cool if there was some sort of request button u could hit to type in a request, but overall great app! Five stars!!!!!:D

Best Music App So Far!!! By: japanjacob - Aug 25, 2008 Version: 1.1 I'm not really one to write reviews but this is hands down the best thing that ever happened to the IPhone, musically speaking. It's also the most used app on my IPhone 3g. I have my IPhone hooked up to my car stereo and this is all I need. Unless you're an avid Howard Stern fan, there's no need to have satellite if you have AOL Radio. With so many more stations to choose from, including a few HD stations, you're set. The signal has failed once or twice on me when I have it hooked up in my car but quickly reconnects. I'm sure AOL will incorporate the skip feature and maybe a few others later on but I'm very satisfied with this application for now. Great job!
Fantastic By: Brett Michael - Aug 22, 2008 Version: 1.1 Yes, the sound quality isn't great on some stations. But hunt around. There's plenty of music here that sounds great. Try Shuffle; it sounds great through headphones (the only way I've listened), which usually expose compression flaws. As an app itself, it does exactly what it should, and gives me a constant flow of new music. This is the holy grail, with minor flaws. No iPod has ever done this; it's bigger to me than holding 100,000-some songs. I hear stuff on here I haven't heard in years, or never, and would never think to look for otherwise. I never thought I'd ever, *ever* be saying this, but: nice job AOL.
Great free app, but had some volume issues By: Matty K. - Jul 23, 2008 Version: 1.0 Pandora works more smooth than this, but this has some great channels and when it's flowing smooth, it is an amazing app. The fact that you get all these XM stations for free is something to jump up and down about. All Pearl Jam, All MB for free...yeaaaaa!!!! Thanks aol....never thought I'd say that. Had some cracking and static with the volume turned all the way up, so I turned it down.
Wow. Awesome App By: PodHed - Jul 13, 2008 Version: 1.0 This app works when you turn off the iPod Touch screen. I was afraid that I would need to leave the screen powered on. One difference with listening to your own music library on your iPod is that this can't run in the background when you're doing something else on your iPod. The radio station selection is nice. I never expected to find a video game soundtrack station, an anime music station, or a Final Fantasy station here. Nice!
Great but needs more By: Baseballplayer15 - Jun 21, 2009 Version: 1.2.3 This app is the best in its class. The stations work great. They always come in clearly and are always on. I can see room for much improvement though. One feature that I think would be much appreciated is the ability to leave the app but still have the station playing in the background. Also, I think AOL should try to get more popular stations in some of the smaller but well known cities. I look foward to seeing what AOL will do in the future.
Excellent for the 3G By: Coderz - Aug 17, 2008 Version: 1.1 Really, really great app. For my 3g, it works great. No skipping, great sound quality, just great. And what I really like, is that unlike other radio apps, you can listen to this one while you do other things. Other radio apps made you stay on the page....but this is great for multitasking. I've heard bad things, though, about it not working on the first gen iPhones. Works well with wifi. Definitely worth the $9.99. Oh, wait, it's free....
Fantastic By: sdeetz - Aug 16, 2008 Version: 1.1 This app is WAY better than I thought it would be. Great audio and tons of radio stations.
Not every station in the country is here obviously, so some people are complaining that one or two specific stations in their town is not included.
And some idiots are complaining they can't skip songs. IT'S RADIO PEOPLE! Can you skip songs when listening to the radio in your car?
These people are comparing it to Pandora radio. Pandora is NOT live radio. Pandora simply creates playlists of songs for you based on your likes and streams them over the Internet to you. AOL radio is actually radio! Huge difference people!
They have tons of options in here for everyone. Sports radio, talk radio, every genre of music imaginable, and so on. Download it. You'll love it.
Great App By: Just2340 - Nov 4, 2008 Version: 1.1 I just bought my Ipod Touch from costco earlier today and I downloaded a couple of free apps (Google Earth,AOL radio,Yahoo Messenger etc.) By far this is my favorite one. I Like the fact it is almost like XM radio except there are some commercials on certain channels. I like the variety of music styles, from Classic Rock to R&B. One Fault: NO LED ZEPPELIN ONLY, theres All Metallica All Springsteen and All Korn, but no Zeppelin?!?!
Presidential Save! By: Robtigeronez - Jan 21, 2009 Version: 1.2.1 I am a principal at a k-8 school in Michigan. Today we gathered our students into the gym where we planned to project the Presidents speech from an Internet live feed. Unfortunately, the demands on the system were such that our streaming feed cut out about 30 seconds in. In fear that our students would miss this historic event, my brain went into overdrive. I grabbed my iPhone and searched through aol radio news stations until I was able to locate a site broadcasting President Obama's speech. I hit the button, and after a few seconds, the voice of the president came through loud and clear on my iPhone. I grabbed a microphone and pressed the phone's speaker against it. Over the gym's loud speakers, President Obama's voice rang crystal clear. In this instance, aol radio made it possible for our students to be a part of this historic event. This program may not have worked out as we origionally planned, but we were able to address a difficult situation using the materials at hand. For the clarity of the broadcast, and a design that saved the day; I offer my highest regards and recommendations for aol radio. Many, many thanks!
Great app that fills a gap By: EmmG - Jul 13, 2008 Version: 1.0 I can't pick up AM radio in my office, and my work doesn't allow streaming audio or video on their network. I have an XM radio that fills most of the audio content "wants" that I have during the day, but now and then there's a talk radio show that I want to listen to that isn't offered on XM. I hoped the iPhone 1.X would fill that gap, but I was disappointed when I realized that I couldn't stream my fave stations through iPhone Safari. Now with iPhone 2.0 and AOL Radio I've got exactly what I was looking for. I can have live news and talk radio wherever I go, anytime, right on my phone without needing an additional radio! If AOL Radio would add my favorite Nashville sports station this App might surpass perfect. Good audio quality, works great for me via EDGE and WiFi.
