Wow By: Track79 - 08-Sep-2009 Version: 1.3.4 A brilliant sample-based beat sequencer - didn't realise this kind of thing was possible on an iPod. One suggestion for the next update - it would be REALLY useful if you could name your patterns, as it gets a bit confusing when you've got a big song with lots of them playing on top of each other. Would be very easy to implement too, i'd imagine. Also, the ability to record realtime changes in effects would be great, if possible. And maybe some reverb? Cheers.
Top Notch, Quality App for Musicians and Aspiring Musicians By: theconduits - Aug 15, 2008 Version: 1.0.2 I am very impressed. As a songwriter and performer, I can see so many uses for this incredible application. Great tool for creating pro sounding beats, soundscapes and you can even incorporate your own sound files from your computer! I can see using it live to trigger sfx and loops. It's amazing how convenient it is to have all this in my Ipod Touch. Great buy. If you're a modern music creator or aspire to be, just get it.
Un fkin real By: Kevinhenry.fdp - Aug 15, 2008 Version: 1.0.1.1 For people like me who want to drag there mpc to work with them, this is for you. This is not some cheesy beatmaker, this is a full sequencer with ALL the bells and whistles. This beats programs like fruity loops, garage band and cake walk. And it's 20 bucks!!. I would pay MUCH more for this app.
The ability to make my own kits with my own set of 16 trigger fingers on a phone just blows my mind.
I would like to see an a few things, but I'm giving this 5 stars. Incredible app!
Simply amazing By: Robert xxsfhgtgg - 02-Aug-2009 Version: 1.3.4 I hesitated before buying this at first because of the price, and because, apart from technobox, all the other music apps have been quite lame (iSyn being unuseable.) But this is in a different league. You do need to give yourself a good few hours to find your way around, because this is DEEP. But if you're familiar with something like FL studio then you will catch on faster. The pre-loaded sounds didn't do it for me so the first thing I did was create my own from VEC samples. Be aware that the interface for loading your own samples is confusing at first. However, with vengeance samples loaded I quickly knocked out a half-decent hard dance track!! The sound quality is great. Through my monitors it is breathtakingly punchy! Buy it and invest time in learning how to use it. You will not regret it if you like dance music.
Wow! By: catchawave - Aug 14, 2008 Version: 1.0.1.1 This is fantastic! And those who are complaining about the price obviously haven't bought it, because if you do buy it, you won't regret it. This is the best app in the store. All the things you can do with your beats amazed me: create kits, mix beats, effects, syncing with beatpack, etc. My one suggestion to the developers would be to add capabilities for swing tempo and alternate time signatures. All in all a great app!
Awesome By: Cha Sui - 05-Feb-2009 Version: 1.3.2 This program is really fantastic. Considering it's an application for a mobile phone, what it can do is amazing. Only issues were that it tended to crash when I put one of my own kits on - probably due to the fact that the samples on some of the pads exceeded 30 seconds (stupid, I know). Otherwise this program is a lot of fun and isn't, like others said, a "toy". Good fun to be had when you have some spare time and what to get some ideas out.
This app might actually have changed my life By: Lol O'Connor - 17-Jul-2009 Version: 1.3.3 I have been a user of cubase since version 1.0 and of just about every version and every other music technology since. This app absolutely blew me away from the moment I started using it.It is intuitive to use whilst not patronising the user- offering a rich array of subtle, creative features and total control, if you want it.I can actually use this tool on phone for serious music making- amazing.Big thanks to the folks who must have stayed-up late plenty to design, develop & test this gem.
Ok... whoa. By: Trakus - 14-Aug-2008 Version: 1.0.1.1 So, I was somewhat skeptical regarding this app as I'm just getting into Reason and thought, "there's no way a little app like this can make decent beats effectively." I stand corrected. Let me just say that the interface is extremely well planned and the scope this app has is beyond anything I imagined. If you are even slightly tempted to make your own music, this is $20 you won't regret.
Surprised By: AntztA - 14-Dec-2008 Version: 1.3 Man, at first I didn't expect much from this app given it's on a mobile device. However I'm blown away. It would have been worth getting my iphone just for this app alone! It is expensive, the most I've ever spent, but it's no toy or gimmick so it makes all the other toy apps I wasted money on look like a joke. Really good to see some dedicated muso's putting in quality like this. Well done & thank you so much!
Brilliant, a must have By: darwiniandude - 08-Dec-2008 Version: 1.3 The best pro music app on the iPhone by a huge amount. It is basicly an MPC style drum pad sampler, with intuitive editing, real time pattern sequencing, editable pitch per step in patterns (compose melodies from a single sample by pitch shifting each step.) If you have any interest in things like MPCs, Fruityloops / FL Studio, Reason, etc... Then this is the app to get. A free app for your computer allows drag and drop wav import / export, midi export. It has three busses, and each sample can go to one of these. Main bus is uneffected output. Fx1 goes to effects bus 1, fx2 to effects bus2. But each of these effects busses is a chain of effects including 3 band DJ style kill eq, comprehensive delay unit with timing flexibility and feedback wet / dry, bit crusher for lofi distortion, and now a flexible multimode ressonant filter. Extremely brilliant. You can now in this update sample directly. For example I sampled a couple of large chords from our piano using the built in mic in the iPhone. Then I sampled a few notes. By laying the chord samples out and pitch shifting the reporions of the individual notes, I was able to accurately recreate a piano piece I was working on. I love this app, it's rock solid stable too, which I love.

This Is What An Application Should Be By: Gerardc - Aug 11, 2008 Version: 1.0.1.1 There's a lot of garbage floating around in the app store but BeatMaker isn't one of them. It does what it says it does, and it does it with style. It's easy to use and rarely crashes unlike many other app store applications. In addition it's premise is unique unlike the 20 flashlight applications or solitaire incarnations. I would highly recommend paying $20 dollars to support the development of this highly polished app. If you want to lay down a beat you can do it seconds with the kits/pads and then easily edit it by adding FX and arranging it in the sequencer. You can also export your beats to the computer and add your very own kits. This application is not cut down at all for the iPhone and if released for the computer it would still be a competent beatmaker.
Wow! By: tkingart - Aug 11, 2008 Version: 1.0.1.1 Alright...I played violin, guitar and piano, but never drums. I have used Sony Music Acid Studio for animation music. I have to say 1. I hate typing on my itouch but 2. This app deserves a mention on here. This is simply amazing... 16 pads and TONS of samples to play with. Someone mentioned no hi-hats or snare, that is not true. Those are in here, and then some. Amateur or Pro, this is THE killer App for the iPhone and iTouch. Endless fun, and what a way to show off the device. I actually plan to use this to produce music for my 3d animations.
20 BUCKS ?! By: emile_epiphone92 - 3-Aug-2008 Version: 1.0.1.1 These were the greatest spent 20 bucks of my life. I've never seen an app with such a potential, and powerful like this one. It is well-developed, has a lot of features, is really really professional and could be compared with any powerful music engine on computer that we can't get lower than 50$. It's not even the half of that - and you can take it out of your pocket everywhere, anytime ! Playing beats with headphones have never been easier and cheaper ! It is really worth every penny : a must-get !
Awesome BeatMaker!!! By: jarofclay73 - Aug 10, 2008 Version: 1.0.1.1 I just uploaded some new kits into my BeatMaker. It's awesome how I can do this wirelessly. I'm just a guy who loves to fiddle with drum machines and this definitely takes care of that. Most of the people who criticize this program have: 1) never downloaded it or used it, 2) never bought a real drum machine before, 3) don't have any use for this. Well, $20 for a full-featured drum machine that I could actually use on stage and yet fit in my pocket and take it on the go - this program is a STEAL!!!
Amazing!! By: o Neji o - 12-Oct-2009 Version: 1.3.4 I wont go in to detail, but this is an amazing app. Do not be turned off this app because of the price, it is more than worth it. Ill be completely honest, my friend has got this app for free by jailbreaking or whatever and he let me fiddle around with it and I have to say I was astounded at the depth and scope of this application, I dont believe in jealbreaking so I happily paid for the app. BUY THIS! ahah.
An MPC with an easier interface, for 20 bucks. By: drummer, the - 25-Jul-2008 Version: 1.0.0 This little piece of software blew me away. It's actually one of the easiest to use non-computer interfaces to quickly lay down a beat. It doesn't give up power for ease of use though. For example, you can build your own kits, using your own samples. They did the basic layout / function of the program exceptionally well, and then tucked in an incomprehensible amount of extremely useful features. It is powerful, versatile, not cluttered, easy to use, and is probably one of the best $20 purchases I have made in my life. Now every time I think of a beat, I will be able to lay it down, tweak it, and save it as an audio file in about 5 minutes. Woah. As far as I can tell, the only downside of the program is that that one person gave it a 1 based purely on suspicion, and so it does not have the five star average rating that it so clearly deserves.
WOW, you can do that on a phone?!? By: Brother Mack - 28-Jul-2008 Version: 1.0.1 I have been an avid Fruity Loops user for about 6-7 years but since switching to a Mac, i can no longer use this program so i have been searching for replacements. I didnt think one of the major candidates would be coming from the App Store! This app is very impressive. Very in depth and with plenty of control. It takes a couple of goes but once your get it its awesome. Yeah, its a little pricey but just know that this isn't a toy or a simple time passer. Its a pretty serious piece of musical software. It may even be over a few peoples heads as far as what it can do. Be sure to check out the video reviews before buying. Importing your own kits is easy and totally awesome. I have not exported yet, but im assuming its going to be as easy as importing. I cant wait to fully put this app through its paces. Pure awesome drum fury in your pocket :)
AMAZING APP!!! By: MICHECK ENT - Aug 9, 2008 Version: 1.0.1.1 I was waiting to see what the iPhone App Store would bring and I have to say in the beginning I was kinda disappointed. To me, the apps I reviewed wasn't "REAL" apps... You, know, something you can sink your teeth into... When I saw the BeatMaker App... I was blown away... I started producing and arranging beats right away... I'm still loving the App after a few weeks of having it... And of course blown my friends away when they see I can actually produce a beat on my iPhone and it sounds good!... I'm not even mad at the fact that the price went down, lolol.
