Excellent!  rating of FStream
By: [Nickname Goes Here] - 01-Jun-2009
Version: 1.0.4
This program is perfect. The only problem I'd agree with others about is the volume control but if you leave it at the highest point and use the iPod/iPhone speaker (with side volume control or by double tapping the home button) it's fine. Those that are complaining about it not playing in the background really shouldn't rate it down, Apple don't let 3rd Party Developers run their apps in the background so the developers can't do anything about it.Finally you do have to enter your radio streams before you can listen but this keeps the program free, if there was a list of radio stations they would all want a fee for using their stream, we don't have to because we re the end user! Besides this way it means the possibilities are endless rather than having to listen to listed stations! It beats all the other internetn radio apps on the app store easily!

Brilliant  rating of FStream

So there I was, out in deepest Essex, third day of the final test of the Ashes. But wait! There's no Sky and no radio with longwave and no way to bring the low-battery laptop into the garden. With this neat app and a quick google for the URL for radio 5 live sports extra I was happily ensconced on the lounger in the sunshine enjoying the cricket. Thanks guys! Ps the streaming was v high quality and mostly lag-free on my phone's edge connection - 3G not required.

A hidden gem...  rating of FStream
By: PrinceGaz - 14-Aug-2009

This app has to be one of the best apps very few people know about, and that's because it doesn't turn up in any of the searches an English-language using person would attempt which could find it (radio, stream, streaming, audio, etc). Just adding those words into the description of it would no doubt result in many more people installing it.
The web-management of stations is a great feature which allows stream URLs to be added quickly and easily. It is a shame that it has trouble handling WMA streams-- you often need to manually change http:... to mms:..., and/or open the file in a text-editor and then try giving FStream a URL contained within that file, until you drill down to the stream URL which FStream will play. You do get there eventually but it is a shame that FStream can't do that automatically (possibly saving the working URL alongside the original link so it only has to attempt to try various URLs in future if the correct one it has associated with the original link fails). A feature request would be the ability to play real media streams (.ram links) as a few stations are only available in that format.
However, none of the above can change the fact that this is already worth 5*. It's just a shame that it could be improved from excellent to perfect with those additions.

Most Useful App for the iPhone  rating of FStream
By: Brassclat - Jun 24, 2009

Beats me why an app this good is free, while the apps "yo mamma" and "call in sick sounds" cost money. This app is the most useful app I own on my iPhone. It allows me to stream psychedelic net radio as well as any other net radio stations all while I'm driving. I'm hoping with my new 3G S that it wont drop so much, but I think thats to do with AT&T's network not having enough coverage in LA or just not providing enough bandwidth. 5/5 for this app, thank you Julien-Pierre!! You are a saint!

Great web radio application  rating of FStream

This is IMHPO the best internet radio application one could have. Adding my own little finds are very easy and the searching of radio stations from iTunes, SourceMac & Shoutcast. The only thing that would make this application perfect would be hook into the iPod function of still playing while the iPhone is in locked status playing. I know this is because of the iPhone software itself so I can't fault the little unknown gem. By the way I am using version 1.04 and have not seen any bugs as of this release.

The Best Net Radio App for iPhone  rating of FStream
By: LG73 - 7-Oct-2008
Version: 1.0.1
FStream is an awesome player on Mac and now on iPhone! Finally an iPhone app that does proper HE-AACv2 decoding. With the latest update all formats now play flawlessly. FStream plays mp3, AAC+v2 (HE-AAC), Ogg and wma streams with crystal clear sound. FStream shows song information when available.
After the latest update:
1) FStream now continues playing when you hit the sleep button.
2) No longer has buffering problems with HE-AAC streams. Sound quality is superb. HE-AACv2 streams with parametric stereo play in stereo, unlike other apps like Tuner or StreamitALL that fail to decode the extended attributes of HE-AAC.
3) Ogg streams are now clear and sound great.
32k HE-AACv2 stereo streams are ideal for listening with EDGE connections. FStream plays them flawlessly
Interface improvements that would be welcome:
1) Directory access with search to something big like the Shoutcast directory would be cool.
2) Some form of level display would be nice.
FStream is off to an excellent start on iPhone with best in class sound quality and the widest range of stream formats decoding and it's free! My iPhone also has Tuner, VisuaRadio, StreamItAll and FlyCast on it. None of them can touch FStream for sound quality.

Great app!  rating of FStream

Couldn't agree more with all the positive comments here. It loads quickly, is simplicity itself to add streams too, uses RDS or its digital equivalent, buffers streams quickly and runs in great quality. If only Apple would let multiple apps run then I'm sure this would be rewritten to run in the background. After all the iPod can continue to play music when you open othe apps. Come on Apple! Live up to the quality of th AppStore vendors! :-)

Works well - allowing for the "known bugs" - even on EDGE!  rating of FStream
By: Vintage Season - Sep 26, 2008

Using a first generation iPhone, two days ago I tested this with a 24kbps MP3 stream from wncw.org (their lo-fi option... they also offer a 128kbps MP3 stream, suitable for Wi-Fi or 3G). Over the course of a 20-minute drive the player never once lost the stream, and even seamlessly switched between my home network and EDGE, once I drove out of range. Very nice!
Suggestions:
- Make the Play/Pause button larger. No real need for a Stop button per-se, as pause effectively does the same thing, and closing the app stops the stream from buffering.
- Once a stream is playing, go to a "Now Playing" screen with more info about the stream, so that the "Playing..." line doesn't have to keep scrolling. If people want to change the channels, they could then simply click on the list view to navigate away.
- It would be really nice if there was a way to add "Station ID" artwork for each stream. Perhaps allow a secondary URL to an image, which would then be stored locally once loaded the first time? Entering a new URL for that particular station artwork could then cause the image to be reloaded/overwritten in the local copy.

Fantastic free app  rating of FStream
By: Colonel - 10-Feb-2009

What a great app this is and it's free! I can get all BBC national stations, but have had no joy with BBC local stations which appear to be only streamed via realplayer. Has anyone got a solution for this? Agree that the volume slider is not very responsive and is too close to the bottom function buttons. It does help to turn the iPod upside down to adjust the volume, but the slider is still hit and miss.

Free!? KNBR! Record?!  rating of FStream
By: redsnow77 - Sep 23, 2009

Can't believe this app was free. Just wanted to use it to listen to KNBR. Now I'm never out of the SF even though I now live in LA. Never tried ootunes and wunder radio but they'd have to be really great to beat FREE. Quality is awesome. It can even record! How awesome is that? Got an interview you want to record or a radio station you can listen to in airplane mode? Stupendous!BTW Bill there is a way to manage favorites and recordings on your desktop through a web browser. How freakin clever was that? On FStream go to MORE then WEB MANAGEMENT. Switch ON the Activate Server. Then type in that IP address in your web browser! Default user/pass is admin/admin.

Best internet radio player and for free  rating of FStream
By: golalmo - Sep 1, 2009

Access to shoutcast and itunes radio library is all that needed. plus you can add your own custom station and it will support most formats.though it doesn't say so, you can timeshift and record streams (but not export)my wishes:- better info screen when playing with song details on top instead of scrolling.- station stream info in player screen.- access to station db without the need to go thought the favorites.so 4 stars for the app + 1 for being free.

Perfect!  rating of FStream

I found this when I was looking for a way to listen to RixFM on my phone. Fstream handles not only that, but the rest of my "eclectic" collection of stations from here and there in the world. The volume slider can be slightly stubborn, but a great little app, easy to use, and *much* more convenient than having my Springboard cluttered with different apps for various stations (assuming I could even find apps for the stations I like). Fstream has a place of honour right on my Dock (nice icon, too!)

Simple, Smart, Superb  rating of FStream

On my search for an application allowing me to play webradio on my iPod Touch I was quite surprised to find the application store cluttered with apps for specific stations. What a nonsense. This player is just all you need. If you know the url for your station you can just enter it. If you want to pick a station from Preset Lists you can choose from iTunes, SourceMac and SouthCast.
And this is not only a radio solution on the go: If you have a stereo rack with an iPod Dock in your room then this app extends it with internet radio capability.

I love the simplicity  rating of FStream

Simple and functional. I have spent $11 on 2 radio apps. This one is free and my favorite. No clutter. You enter the stream you like (a few seconds) - Done. I'll keep one paid app for browsing stations but fstream will be the app on my cover page. The app is free but it is worthy of a nice donation. To the writer of this app, keep writing apps and keep the interface simple. By the way, I learned about this app at the website for WBACH. This may become my favorite app - it's the first one I've done a review on.

Possibly the most remarkable iPod app out there  rating of FStream
By: TitlePK - 29-Dec-2008
Version: 1.0.2
Once you get the hang of entering in radio streams it does a great job of streaming radio to the iPod. The record feature is brilliant and the app acts like a webdav server so you can download your recordings to your computer via a web browser. The only missing feature I can see is not being able to search for radio stations in the iTunes list. Other than that the app is a textbook case of innovative software design. Congratulations to the developer - thank you!

These are the first guys who made the mms stream a reality. Great Great App. Couple of things to make this perfect.
* Equilizer Settings
Finally make this effort Chargeable
PS: Update. Its still the best app out there for the iphone. In my case this was the reason I got the phone because of the mms:// streams. If only an update would enable better buffer management. That would be great. I'd pay for this kind of app.
