Rating: rating 10(3481)
Version: Agile
Size:

Price:  $9.99

Description:

Essential guitar utilities, including an amazingly accurate tuner and a library of over 500,000 chords, all on your iPhone or iPod touch. One of the highest rated applications in the App Store.
FEATURES
- Direct support for 6- and 12-string guitar, 4-, 5- and 6-string bass, banjo, mandolin, and ukulele with a full chord library, standard and alternate tunings for each instrument.
- Highly accurate chromatic tuner using the iPhone microphone (or iPod touch with microphone headset).
- Precisely accurate metronome with a visible flash option, tempo tap pad, 13 sound effects and 12 time signatures.
- Massive chord library (over 500,000 chords) for quick and easy reference: strum chords to hear what they sound like. Includes chords for alternate tunings.
- Chord finder: simply touch the notes on the fretboard that make up a chord, and GuitarToolkit tells you what that chord is! This is a lot of fun and a great way to learn about those great-sounding chords you've been playing.
- Scales references in standard or alternate tunings: use the interactive fretboard to touch each note and hear what it sounds like.
- Supports “lefty mode” which adjusts chords and scales to reflect a left-handed instrument.
Note: The original iPod touch does not have microphone capabilities, thus there is no tuner support. GuitarToolkit Lite is intended for those users. The tuner works great on all newer iPod touches using headphones with an integrated microphone.

Super Helpful!  rating of GuitarToolkit
By: BitrateBabe - Sep 24, 2009
Version: 1.3
I hesitated on buying this because it was $10; however, I'm glad I did. The tuner is excellent on it - I play bass and was skeptical, so I compared it with my real tuner. Each string was dead on and the same as the tuner, except the E string was a tad off (this app said it was on, but my tuner said it was slightly sharp). However, for $10, you can't even buy a tuner and metronome for that price, so I still think this app is worth the purchase. The other nice features are the fretboard where you can use to play on when you don't have your bass nearby - kind of an interesting feature if you come across some tablature online and want to see if it sounds right! Plus, the chord charts are pretty cool - they have it for each instrument including for bass. If you're on the fence about buying this app, you should! It's pretty darn cool!

This is a fantastic app!  rating of GuitarToolkit

I've been using this app for almost a year now and it's been a handy, useful part of musician's bag of toys - when I don't have a dedicated tuner handy, I use my iPhone. When I don't have a metronome to practice, I use this app. If I needed a quick chord lookup, I use this app. Now, with the newest (and still free!) update, I can use this same app for my ukuleles too, and have access to hundreds of thousands of chords and scales, in any tuning and in any key. I use open tunings and on my guitars sometimes, and it's so nice to have chord libraries handy for so many alternate tunings now - dozens and dozens of them for guitar (around 50) and even 5 different ukulele tunings. This app is among the most expensive I've purchased for my phone, but given its incredible functionality and continued improvements, it's very well worth the price.

Unbelievably great. Wow.  rating of GuitarToolkit

Everything you want this to do, it does at a very high level. The tuner is amazing - showing the hertz & the cents... Now THAT's in tune! You can do all the chords & scales (any key, many patterns, more than just major & minor) in standard tuning, or in a bunch of alternate tunings! There's also a bunch of bass stuff (regular & 5-string). The metronome has all the sophisticated functionality you want, too. An amazing app for $9.99. Worth much more!

Excellent software, Excellent Customer Service  rating of GuitarToolkit

Version: 1.3.1
This is one of the best apps I have seen for the iPhone. It works better than any tuner I've purchased at a music store. Plus the alternate tunings, chords charts & scales are awesome. Even better, customer service is great. I got an email within a hour when I asked about adding a violin tuner. Turns out the mandolin is tuned to the same notes a can already be used to tune a violin. Definately worth every penny.

New update just eliminated my need for 3 other apps...One more feature to go!  rating of GuitarToolkit
By: Matt Compton - Sep 21, 2009
Version: 1.3
I purchased this app with the previous version and quite liked it. If I were reviewing that version I'd probably give it 4 stars. To supplement, I had also purchased an app that could do chord discovery, and was near to purchasing separate mandolin and banjo chord tools. But this insane update eliminates the need for any of those and easily earns its 5 stars.
The last feature that I'm looking forward to is some sort of tabulature and lyric tool. I'd like to be able to just have my guitar and my iPhone to sit down and write a song, notating riffs and chords atop lyrics. As it stands I still need a piece of paper or a laptop to keep track of it all. I know the app doesn't tout itself as a songwriting tool, but this final feature would certainly make this the premiere app for stringed musicians. Actually, I think it already is, but still...
Thank you Agile Partners, and if you're looking for one more awesome bullet point to your product, please do consider my suggestion.

I would rate this at 12 stars!!!  rating of GuitarToolkit

This summer I wanted to pick up guitar after playing piano for a few years. I wanted an app that could teach me all the basic chords and more. I picked out this app to find it better than I ever couldve imagined! I learned how to play guitar in 3 months with mostly just this app. It has all the most complex chords that I use in playing a wide variety of music an has a ton of inversions. And with the new update you can make chords, it helps me out so much!!!! It's a must have for any guitar (and now any stringed instrument..) player.

Awesome app! A must have for stringed instrument lovers.  rating of GuitarToolkit

After downloading the Version 1.3 update, I must say I was totally blown away! -So many new features ... I love the chord options (notes, finger positions or intervals). I love that I can put notes on a fretboard and it'll tell me the chord name, and thank you for adding support for the ukulele, not to mention all the other intruments and alternate tunings! The auto-strum option is really nice also. This app was great before the update - even though I was reluctant to spend the ten bucks. But after this update, it's an absolute must-have for all guitar, banjo, ukulele, mandolin and bass players! Agile Partners has set the bar very high with this one. Graphics, Sound and Presentation are all top notch! Buy it - It's amazing - You won't be disappointed.

Great, get it !  rating of GuitarToolkit

Version: 1.2.2
Great tool if you play guitar. It can tune your guitar to many diferent tunings. Also, it lets you tune each string separately from the list of tune possibilities... So, you can tune your guitar to any way you want, like 1 and 1/2 step down C# for example. It is worth for the tuner itself since it is cheaper than a conventional tuner, but it also has tons of scales, chords, and even a metronome, all with sound. I think this is one of the best apps I've seen.

Better than my old analog tuner box. Realistic string sounds too!  rating of GuitarToolkit
By: Juh-nick - Dec 13, 2008
Version: 1.2.2
I don't know why there is such a split between great/terrible reviews regarding the tuner. Maybe the negative reviews are from people using it in a noisy atmosphere? My home office is pretty quiet and the tuner is amazing in my opinion, compared to my old $50 battery-operated tuner box that had a weaker microphone. This app also seems to tune better (or just easier) than my Line6 Pod (the popular kidney-shaped effects box).
My second favorite feature is that when you pluck/strum the chords, the strings sound like a real guitar. Most of the other chord tools I've tried in the past sound more like a piano or electronic instrument. This one sounds nice, and makes it easier to experiment with chords since they sound familiar to my ear.

The best app I ever bought  rating of GuitarToolkit
By: valital - 30-Sep-2009
Version: 1.3
I don't leave app reviews out of habit, it is either because an app is terribly frustrating or because, as in this case, it is so good that you feel you must give something back to the developers by letting them know what a fantastic job they've done and doing a bit of advertising for them. I bought the app at the previous version and I thought it was great. The update blows my mind. Customised tuning, better metronome, various tablature viewing styles. Anything you might ask for in this type of app. Awesome!

Would have saved me a bundle had I not been cheap and got it earlier - worth every penny! So let's make this simple for everyone on the hedge: awesome tuner $50 to $100 + great metronome 50 - 80 dollars + chord book & books of scales for guitar and bass in different tunings probably well over a $100, all of that vs this app at 9 bucks. In the BEST interface of any iTunes app I've seen (trust me, I've seen a few - have bought around 50 and own 80+ total apps.

Utterly Fantastic  rating of GuitarToolkit
By: Hawkman - 28-Sep-2009
Version: 1.3
This is a beautiful and highly functional piece of software - the guitar tuner Apple would have written.
This is one of the first apps I bought, way back when, and it's still one of only three that have earned a place on my first home screen. The tuning is noticeably better than the cheap(ish) tuner I bought with my guitar, and much more fun. The chord lookup is excellent, and has completely changed my playing habits -- I always look up variations now, because it's so darn easy. Every aspect of this app looks gorgeous and works excellently, and it's had several major feature updates, all for free.
My one niggle is that the chords are a little too eager to play themselves when you're browsing through them, which can get in the way of quick scrolling; but this minor complaint could not possibly mar an otherwise perfect experience.

Wonderful app, keep it all in the same place!  rating of GuitarToolkit

Version: 1.2.3
I've loved this app. Being a highschool 2nd year guitarist in an advanced jazz class, It helps so much. Has 95% of all chords you will ever need (does not have 13 chords with accidentals, but if you're using 13's you probably know how to alter them anyway) and the tuner, metronome, and scales all in one place is fantastic, along with how each chord sounds and multiple voicings and inversions. Includes dozens of alternate tunings (I use the Eb/hendrix one most, as well as the standard 440) and just a smooth and user-friendly design. A definite buy.

Simply Amazing!!  rating of GuitarToolkit

Version: 1.2.2
This application is an amazing set of tools essential for ANY player of ANY skill level or style! A tuner is a must have for every guitarist...metronomes are great practice tools for nailing your speed and accuracy...the chord chart is off the charts! (pun intended)...this chord chart has any formation imaginable and also shows you every variation possible for any given chord anywhere on the neck it can be fretted...the scales and chords are displayed on a virtual rosewood fretboard...you can also turn on the auto-strum feature for the chord charts which will play the strummed chord in realtime as you select it...also you can press the notes displayed in the scales in the fretboard and it will play them too...you can choose all types of scales and even MODES!! You can set this thing to show chords and scales for 6 or 12 string guitars or even bass guitars!! You can also use alternate tunings!!! Bottom line, yes this appbis $10...but a comparable chord book will run you $14 easy...and that book won't strum the chords for you!! Only con I've found so far is that the scales on the fretboard even with the master volume open all the way, the audible notes are a little too faint...but headphones easily fix that... Buy this app!! Now!!

Brilliant!  rating of GuitarToolkit

This app is utterly fantastic! I'm no aficionado when it comes to tuning, but it seems pretty accurate to me (I've been playing the guitar for 9 years). It has a huge chord library which is really useful. I really like the fact that it has different tunings (drop D, tuning in 4ths, etc) and even the functionality to make your own custom sets of tuning. OK, it costs £5.99 and is one of the most expensive apps of its type, but you'd spend easily that much on a tuner that can't offer the great extras of this app.

The 'Swiss Army Knife' of pro tuners  rating of GuitarToolkit
By: Old Bumpy - Dec 10, 2008
Version: 1.2.1
The best tuner and best metronome I've ever used. Accurate and fast even against the background sounds of a symphony orchestra warming up (my gig), or a generator running - post-hurricane Ike! Finds my double bass low pitches instantly. On a recent church performance was able to tune exactly 7 cents flat to match the organ before going on stage. Using this tuner on numerous basses daily in a repair shop, found any needle fluctuation invariably indicates dead or 'false' strings. Plus, how cool is it to have a tuner in your iphone? I've used a drum machine for 20 years as a metronome...has not been turned on once since guitar toolkit. Simply no need to reach any further than the iphone that's always in my pocket.

Outstanding  rating of GuitarToolkit
By: Furvel Lankman - Dec 9, 2008
Version: 1.2.1
This app has pretty much replaced all of the more expensive guitar store tuners I've bought over the last few years. The tuner works well with both guitar and bass, and either accoustic or electric. The only thing I wish it had was the ability to enter custom tunings. Even though the current library is fairly extensive, it's not complete. I prefer to tune my guitars to baritone "A", which unfortunately isn't on the list. Still, the amount of tunings is fairly broad and I like being able to try new tunings I wouldn't normally consider. I purchaced this app shortly after it was released and it's been one of the most useful programs on my phone.

I'm not moved to leave reviews very often - this is only my second - but I felt compelled to spread the word on this brilliant app (after the update). Before it was pretty damn good. Now, it's indispensable. I'm a guitarist who also plays uke and banjo, and the update means I can now delete the slightly annoying uke chord app I had. Plus there's banjo and mandolin versions thrown in for good measure! The other great new feature is the ability to map out a chord you have 'invented' and have the app tell you the official name of said chord. Great when you have to communicate with eg. a pianist. The interface is really intuitive, it's lovely to be able to hear the notes, and also to have tuner etc built in, plus the different tunings - great! I just want to say thanks and well done to the devs, you've made a good app damn near perfect.

what are you waiting for? get it!  rating of GuitarToolkit
By: engel556 - Dec 8, 2008
Version: 1.2.1
This is the best app I've downloaded (free and paid included) so far. The tuner is decent (about what you would expect out of a $20-$40 chromer) and I haven't been able to get sounds to work on the fretboard or metronome yet (but I seem to be the only one with that problem). The true beauty of this app lies in the chord and scales library, absolutely amazing. For $10 you get way more than you're paying for, so don't hesitate to get it.

Simply Stunning  rating of GuitarToolkit

Since buying my iPhone 3G, I've had this app, and I have loved it from the start. The new update only continues to improve on what I previously thought was the best app on the app store. The Chord finder is especially useful when deriving new riffs based around a bass line. Coupled with the new instruments and the new metronome it's truely the best app for any musician. This app is with out doubt, the best £5.99 you can ever spend
