More tracks, More polyphony and WAV / AIFF Import please  rating of iSequence
By: Cotton Candy - 23-Sep-2009
Version: 1.1
I just bought iSequence and like it very much. The plan is to us it to compose on the road and export the MIDI to my DAW. I bought it because of the MIDI export option. What I would really like to have is more polyphony, 5 notes is nice, but I want a option for inputting complex chords/harmony - at least a "CHORD Track" with a polyphony of up to 8 notes - just for the chord track. I hapily give you 5 STARS - you deserve them. The sound quality is great considering the limitation of the hardware. I wish I had a tool like that when I was a teenage, back in the days, you would have had to spend $$$$ to get the equivalent. Keep up the great work, and please more polyphony and more tracks. How about adding dedicated track chord like PianoStudio? YES !!! Oh I forgot, so I amended my post, would be awesome if we could import WAV or AIFF files, at lease for a "Drum track" so we could import custom beats/loops - how about that?

Best synth so far  rating of iSequence

I've tried a lot of these programable synth apps.
isequence has the best sounds and a good selection of them.
It's a very intuitive layout; very simple to program exact melodic notes, placement, velocity, and composition.
Yes, more space for more tracks would be nice, but 4 works.
Sometimes programming each note step-by-step feels tedious. I would like to see a way to record in real time with easily "touchable" pads.
Great work. The best synth in the app store.

I've been waiting for an app like this!!  rating of iSequence

I've actually spent a lot on music apps... Beatmaker, Gigbaby, Four Track, Guitar Toolkit, Noise.io (all great btw), but Ive really been missing something to actually compose songs "from scratch". Beatmaker comes close, but it's really for loops, and beats... Not an easy way to make your own melodies. This app is near-perfect, esp for first version. Very slick, simple but powerful, extremely intuitive, great selection of sounds. Inside of 15 mins, I had some cool sequences going. I'm really hooked! I may never get off the toilet now :))Couple suggestions, not at all comprehensive since Ive only used it for about an hour. 1) want a way to easily make a copy of an existing sequence 2) would like to store mixer settings per sequence (don't really need to automate them within a seq, although that would be dope too) 3) selecting notes by dragging doesn't always work well. Often have to try a few times to get the region highlight to show up 4) emailing songs would be cool 0.1) actually MOST useful would be an undo!! Great app! Thanks for making this, it's going to get a lot of use :)

Unless you are a Psychic, you would not know that pattern copy is possible because there's no manual. The Help button just shows you an image of the interface with labels. It does not explain to newbies and dummies what is what and how to work with them. All it takes is a 3-4 sentence paragraph to give people a general idea and get then started. You have to realize that most people (including myself ) that purchased iSequence and other similar iPhone music creation apps are not serious and experienced professionals. We are either aspiring DJs, producers, or just want to have some fun and impress our friends. Don't for this is a phone with 480-by-320 screen. WOW! So, help us out by getting us started with a manual. Oh! If you are working on a piece of music and you put down the phone for a while without exiting iSequence to do something else, when you resume, you are most likely going to forget what app you are working on. If a friend heard your composition and wants to know how to get that same app on iTunes, you have to exit and hopefully find the right app among many just to get the name. So, in a future version it would really be helpful to have an internal manual or a link to a web page. Overall, it's excellent and gets the job done precisely. OncallPromo.com

I've been waiting for a simple sequencing program to come along that really works well, and sounds great. This gets much closer than the handful of others I've bought and tried, i've already put down a few song ideas, and pretty quickly! One bug, after I saved my song then came back to it later and loaded it and added more and hit save again, it wanted me to enter a new filename. Not a big deal, I just saved it to a new file. Would make more sense that the song would just save using the name I saved it under the first time. More tracks! Thanks for a cool program guys.

This is a great app for a great price. After about 5 min of playing around with the interface I knew that this app has lots of depth for the price. Give it a try if you're on the fence. Im gonna have a lot of fun making my own beatd. At the moment the only thing I can ask for is an option to export my creations to my computer. A few apps are starting to support that feature and it would make this app near perfect.

A great little app, with room for improvement  rating of iSequence

The best sequencer yet. Rather quirky controls, and it helps to check out the tutorial movies on the website, but it's possible to add multiple tracks to get a good sound.
A few requests for future releases...
1. More instruments! We need some woodwind and brass in there!
2. Please, give us a piano keyboard rather than the numbered keys. Would make it so much easier.
3. How about an Undo button? It's too easy to erase a key by accident and forget what it should have been.
4. The sequences positions are numbered from 00, but the sequences themselves from 01... how about tying these together?
Greatly looking forward to the next release. Good work so far.

I may have been a bit harsh in my first review (2 stars). Having just updated i decided to reload my tune and add an extra track and I'm very pleased with what I have made. Now that it has wav export I can load them into beatmaker and loop producer (I hope). I would still like to see filters and an option to import samples. I'm a bit unsure if this is worth £2.99 but if it keeps getting updated then it would be worth every penny. Looking forward to next update.

A Great Start  rating of iSequence
By: MikiStrange - 26-Jul-2009

If you've ever encountered a sequencer then you will be writing tunes in minutes. If you haven't then it'll only take a little longer. The sounds are good enough to end up with a finished track. You can't tweak them but that just gives you more time to compose. Sometimes less tweaking equals more tune and that's a good thing. I would like to see at least 8 tracks so that drums could be more inventive and lead lines could sit over pads and bass. More FX would be good to as would being able to name patterns so that song composition becomes easier. But, and it's a big but. This is only the beginning. Patience and good feedback will reap rewards I'm sure. I love this app and look forward to the future.

Great app with potential to be better still  rating of iSequence
By: Unclejambo - 15-Jul-2009

At present this app is great for making short loops on the move. I've already written myself into a corner so to speak once I've exceeded about 10 bars as keeping track of different patterns can be tricky.
Perhaps having a bank of 8 patterns to program and choose to would be handy with the ability to make small changes once these patterns are laid out in the sequencer. i.e. adding an extra snare hit to a pattern within the song should not affect where that same pattern has been used later on.
....I'm not sure I'm explaining myself clearly. :S
Basically the developer boasts filters and automation for future releases which is great but please also make song structuring more user friendly. I'd be happy to beta test!

Overall, I think this is a great app, very reasonbly priced. Similar apps that cost three times as much have only a few additional features. The limitations of isequence are: no stereo panning for individual tracks or instruments; only one effect (delay), the level of which cannot be adjusted differently per track, though it can be turned off/on for different tracks; only five tracks, though you can use multiple instuments on a single track, so if you're creative you can fill out the sound on off-notes; it does crash, but not as often as others are saying, at least not for me. Still, the capabilities of this app far outweight its limitations.

Great App with bags of potential.  rating of iSequence

After reading the 1st review of this app I was very put off, then after some dialogue with the Developer decided to buy it and see for myself.
I was very pleased I did, this app has bags of potential and for a version 1 gives you a nice idea of what is possible with further development.
I have not had any crashes at all using Ipod Touch 2nd Gen 16gb and 2.2.1 firmware.
As iSequence is now it is a great stable App that will let you get your ideas down and worth every cent.
congrats to the dev :-)

Have been waiting for a tracker style sequencer since the app store came out. This is close to what I'd hoped for. Wish you could press a note and a contextual menu would pop up for all the great note tweaks available on traditional trackers (glide, offset, volume, etc). Would also love to be able to set more (or less) default steps per pattern. An amazing start though! I hope the author will continue to develop this program!

Can't give it 5 yet....  rating of iSequence
By: Jacksondale - Jul 10, 2009

But it has lot's of potential. However 4 tracks needs to expand to at least 16 or more to add real functionality to this app. 4 tracks start to jumble up pretty quick just trying to lay down a drum line. Sounds are good and the copy and paste is nice. Interface is good, doesn't take long to figure out. Need to be able to insert a pattern but maybe you can by copying a blank pattern not sure on that yet. Worth the few dollars but really need to expand those tracks. Further developement could make this sweet!

Great application, Love it!  rating of iSequence

It's very intuitive for old school mod makers. More of everything (tracks, notes per pattern, polyphony) would rock. The pattern sequence UI is a bit limited. Ideally it would be awesome if you could layer two of more patterns together (that would even make the limit of 4 tracks and 16 notes per pattern somewhat acceptable, and encourage more reuse of patterns). It would be nice to have a mode where the cursor auto advances to the next note in the pattern so that it would be even faster to compose small sequences. Apart from that, it's the by far the most intuitive way for me to create music on the go. At 2.99$, you can't be wrong if you want something quick on the go.
Awesome work.

Great little step sequencer with lots of sounds to use- easy to use but could use more tracks please? *Can't seem to figure out how to change volume on induvidual notes-please explain. Would make sense if this volume function worked like the transpose function does- select one or more notes then select + or - value. Then value could be shown on volume bar on note? Also, color coding notes according to which instrument is playing them would be great since multiple intruments can be played on one track Great start though- been looking for something like this to play around with.

Works well at iPhone scale. More sounds/instruments please. Update: Since I am now using this app far more than any other and i also found that you can cut and paste large blocks at a time, I feel compelled to give it five stars. I find it adds great momentum to my composing.
