This is one of my favorite and most used apps. It's perfect for my long trips across midwest highways, where I can just listen to one station, rather than searching around the dial once one station starts to get fuzzy. It's also wonderful for when I go to the park and want to listen to classical music, but don't have a handheld radio. I haven't experienced any problems with crashes or bad sound quality, and the on-demand section as well as the featured sections make it easy to find new things. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves public radio!

Found all my favorite NPR stations within seconds. Streaming starts super fast and without ads. And it tells me the frequency of NPR stations close to me, so I can hear the local flavor. My only request would be more map integration so it can tell me what to listen to along planned road trips when I'm off the network. To the critics, a few notes: a) this is a public radio tuner, quite clearly. Don't complain that you can't find all your clearchannel easy listening hits, that's not what's on the menu here b) the streaming issues seem to be primarily bandwidth related - I've never lost a stream on wifi, only between cells and mostly when on edge. So don't blame the developers for AT&T's (or your carrier's) network issues. This also varries based on the station I'm streaming, so it may be poorly run streams as well. Also out of the app's controll. It's free, and great. Give it a try.

This is a fantastic app that does exactly what it says with great streaming on Wi Fi.
It was designed for National Public Radio Stations in the USA so why download it and expect it to have UK stations?
If I downloaded an app for UK radio stations I wouldn't expect it to have USA or any other foreign stations.
Please read the app description prior to downloading before giving it a poor rating.

...there are people who actually get this app for listening to popular music! Wow. Public radio is mostly news, discussion, education, etc. If that sounds boring to you, this probably is not for you! "There's no rock!" they say! OMG- *shaking my head* As for the dropped feed issue, my experience is that it is improved with this version. Old version would crash out after about 15 minutes. So far so good with this one!

I enjoyed the older version (1.2) and also have 2.0 installed on my 3GS running 3.0. It starts and streams my favorite local radio station just fine. Further, I installed it on a 1st gen iPhone running 3.0.1 and guess what......works great. I agree with comment, however, with losing your place on podcasts. But I'll add an extra star to balance out the others who don't know how to do basic troubleshooting on your own phone!

I was really skeptical about downloading this app after reading the other reviews, but it's working great! It took a little bit to load, but nothing unreasonable. I'm addicted to WUNC NPR station, and we dont' get good reception at our house, so I usually listen to it over my mac...now I can have it playing over my mac downstairs and over my iphone upstairs! I haven't used it (yet) away from the house (where we have a wireless router), but regardless its working perfectly for what I need it to do! Highly recommend this app!

I write very few reviews, but came here specifically to thank the developers for their awesome update. I am very surprised to see people complaining about it. This new version not only gives you live streaming, but it gives you the CURRENT SCHEDULES of all the programs around the country (making it so easy to find a station playing Morning Edition or Talk of the Nation, for example), it also provides on-demand listening and has "feature" stations, so I can discover ones I don't normally listen to. I'm actually blown away by how great it is and I use it every single day. It crashes occasionally, but it's not "slow," as others have said. And I use 3G almost exclusively (e.g., on my bike, in my car), not WiFi. If you listen to public radio, this is the app to get. Thanks, NPR tech folks!
p.s. You really should reboot your phone (not just turn it off) after loading this and any other application. I'm guessing any problems would be solved with that simple fix.

As an addicted public radio listener, this is the best app. Many of the low ratings given earlier versions mention the signal and streamed programs dropping out. I used previous versions for 4 weeks, both on wirelesss networks and AT&T's 3G network, and only had the signal drop out once. It restored easily.
This is a very convenient method of listening to your favorite public radio program. Podcasts don't work for me because I never go back and listen to the programs. With this app, I can listen to the radio just like I always have, most of the places I go. The only limitation is AT&T's coverage, not the app.

This app has gotten so much better I have to write another review. I slammed it before because it dropped so quickly and so many times it was worthless. It is so improved that I choose it to listen to In the morning rather than my radio. If a call drops (and I can listen the whole morning and it not drop) it picks back up in a few seconds on the same station. Kudos to the people who produce this. This is REAL customer service - a business that listened to what people were saying and did something about it!!!

I listen to Public Radio a lot and now I have access to many stations, including the WI HD-2 Classical Station that I've heard about but never been able to hear. The app seems to be working really well for me, especially when I'm using it at my home.It seems to drop stations if I'm out and about due to loss of signal. It's amazing to be able to choose from such a long list of good radio stations. Thank you!

i am a huge public radio listener, and i LOVE this new update. new stations have been added, and i especially like how it tells you what is currently playing on each station, and what the next show coming up is.
regarding other raters complaints about slowness:
i don't find it slow at all, it even works in my car when i'm driving around and my iphone is only using G3 instead of wifi to connect.
i've been waiting and waiting for the app to update, and and very happy with version 2.0 .
(and i'm glad its still free!)

Outstanding, a must have for public radio fans.

Nice new interface, guide & schedule, past episodes on demand. All very nice. Having said that, I was a bit confused with the updgrades that took place with 1.1.2 to 1.2, and then to 2..0 where I experienced a slower app, and the loss of my two favorite stations (they're back now). But, I am aware that they are working on the performance issues and this will improve. In the meantime enjoy this nice free app, it's really rich with good content. Give it a chance. Support public radio. Five stars.

Love it! (... but where are the guides and "on-demand" content?)

Overall I am very impressed with this new incarnation of the app, and it easily deserves five stars. I am slightly puzzled about the "'What's Playing Now' program guide for each station" and the "Hundreds of public radio shows on-demand" in the app description, though. If I wish to hear ALL THINGS CONSIDERED on-demand, how would I go about finding it? I was completely unable to locate any particular station "guide," either. Perhaps those features did not make it into this initial release?

Works perfectly! Thank you. Loads in 5 secs, switches screens without lag, and starts live streaming in 2-3 secs. On demand also starts in about 5 secs. This program is fantastic, and free to boot! I'm running 3GS on ATT 3g connection and didn't reboot after installing. I've never had the program previously. Perhaps problems are with upgrading. For a fresh install on the fast hardware with a quick connection it is perfect. Have to see how it runs when I run it at home where my 3g signal is not as fast.

Huge improvement in an already good app!

One of my most-used apps before the most recent update, and now even better! Find local stations using GPS, shows what's playing now and for the next couple hours before you commit to a station, and allows you to access shows you missed via the "on demand" function (which links to podcasts). Easier than subscribing to all the podcasts I'd want, and saves space on my phone. I haven't had any connectivity problems, and have been using Wi-Fi and 3G each for a while. Great app!

(This is am update to my review of the previous version) I disagree with the negative reviews for this app - please read on ... The new version (2.0) has corrected my complaints from my original review. My biggest issue with this app was that it would drop the stream of the station constantly - 2.0 fixed this! I have a 35-45 min commute in VA and use this app to listen to my hometown NPR station from Oklahoma (KGOU, Norman OK) and it no longer drops the stream for my entire commute. I have listened to KGOU thru this app for several hours (while sitting in a bookstore and then walking out to my car and then driving home) and the stream never dropped once! I have used all versions of this app (originally on a 3g, and now on a 3Gs) and I have never had it crash - ever. If you are an NPR listener like me and want to catch your favorite shows anytime, anywhere -- this app is for you!

AMAZING!!! I can't live without it!!!

I have been using the Public Radio Tuner since it was released, and with the update to 2.0, it is an even more vital part of my daily life. Simply put, I can't imagine what I did before I had it. Version 2.0 is even more amazing. The addition of nationwide program schedules and On Demand shows is brilliant! I'd GLADLY pay for this program, however thankfully it's free! Thank you so much, PRX, for doing a wonderful service to those of us in the community that treasure public radio!

This new update is truly amazing! The developers of this App really hit it on the nail this time! And to the people who complain about drop streams, that's not always the apps fault. I have never have had a problem with any of the Wisconsin Public Radio Streams but I can never stay connected with some of the non-Chicago Illinois streams. That makes me conclude that it's the stations fault and not the app. If your reading this and are on the fence, DONT BE! Download it now!

Exactly what I was looking for. It must have every NPR station in the country. Good looking. Stations nicely labled. If you like NPR, then download this now. Minimum dropouts. Not bad on the battery under wifi. It's free! I get a kick out of the kids' reviews who stumble onto this. Sorry, not much hip hop on NPR, but please don't dis NPR or this app (not to mention older folks) for being what they are. They didn't dupe you, you just don't understand what this is. It's not fair to give a bad review simply because of your ignorance and confusion.
