Reviews:
Very Cool Indeed!!! By: ses83642 - Sep 26, 2008 Version: 1.1.1 Just downloaded this app tonight and having been using it on my iPod Touch via wi-fi. It streams perfectly and I have had not problems at all. It is pretty cool that it can interface w/ Winamp as well as iTunes, or scan your music straight from your hard drive. Anything that allows me to avoid iTunes as much as possible is a great thing. I had no problems or delays w/ the program accessing my songs on my hard drive, but then again I only have about 1,500 songs. I really like the lyrics option, as well. IMHO a very good app for the price (free).
I had to rate it 5 stars By: iBeej - Mar 25, 2009 Version: 1.2.1 Because the app allows me to play my ENTIRE music library from anywhere... why do I even need a 16GB iPhone? Setting it up is EASY as hell. Install software on computer, pick a username, and connect with the iPhone. Done. I use it all the time. All day long at work. The ability to shuffle anything is awesome. iTunes/WMP works great and detects all your playlists (Even GENIUS!) Loading up the artwork is slick, and I LOVE the lyrics integration. It can take a minute or two to get a first time connection, but after that buffering only takes 5 seconds. It's good about detecting network drops and switches between 3G/WiFi. Only thing I want, is a repeat option. Also, I want to force a bandwidth setting, because it plays the first song at a terrible bitrate.. somewhere around 90kbps.. after 1 minute of playing a song, when you switch songs, it ups the data stream to it's detected max. But, I love how it scrobbles to Last.fm, and it does FAR more things (and better) than ORB does where music is concerned. Comparing Simplify to ORB sound (bitrate) quality with both maxed, I can tell ORB sounds better... but by only a little bit. I'm an audiophile and musician, so the difference is noticeable. If you want TRUE unaltered bitrates, then ORB does it better. But most people wont be able to tell. ;) GREAT APP, Can't wait for more updates!!!
This app is better than I thought, it's simply great By: iPhone Convert - Sep 18, 2008 Version: 1.1.1 This App is better than I thought and I felt compelled to give it a review. I have about 48 apps on my phone and this is the first one I'm reviewing. What can I say. Easy to setup (took me less than 5 minutes to get it going from download to install to setup to listening to the first track). I can access all of the music on my computer from anywhere I have a connection...which is almost everywhere in the area I live. The part that blows me away...besides having full access to my music without needing to have it stored locally on my phone. The service identifies the artist and provides a little blurb about them. Too cool for words. Top that off....it provides lyrics for the songs too. I'm just blown away. It's useful, easy to setup, free and stable. KillerApp
JUST ADDED 1,000 GIGS to MY IPOD TOUCH! AN AMAZING PROGRAM! By: zzmoviecom - Sep 17, 2008 Version: 1.1.1 Ok...now iphone is blowing me away. With this FREE AP below, you can listen via streaming with WIFI or CELLULAR, your ENTIRE LIBRARY at your home based computer, ANYWHERE. AND, you can share your library with 30 friends, SO, we can all listen to each others libraries. Just added 1,000 gigs to my TOUCH. It works great (wondering if video is possible....may be tough to stream....tho u know it's next) The menu show up on your iphone as though its part of you regular library. AND, you can listen to different songs on your home computer while you or someone else is streaming on the phone. AMAZING.
Absolutely Fantastic By: Chapplenick - 29-Oct-2008 Version: 1.1.4 What a fantastic program! Why even bother storing songs on your iphone when you can access your entire itunes library at teh click of a button!!! (joking)...Buffering the track takes a max of 5 seconds, and when playing a song the program automatically downloads the lyrics and shows them to you! I am overwhelmed that this kind of thing can be done i just reckon its amazing. I would pay $20 for this program...well worth the money!
Great App. 1 Bug. Still Gets 5 Stars By: AggieVaulter - Sep 16, 2008 Version: 1.1.1 GREAT APP!! Works really well and will only get better. The only bug I have come across is that sometimes when it tries to display the lyrics to a song, it will only let me see the lyrics that are on screen. If I try to scroll the lyrics to follow the song, sometimes it cuts off the rest of the song. This may not be a bug with the actual program and may be a bug from the site that it is pulling the lyrics from. Great app. Can't wait for more updates that allow album art and maybe a fix for the lyric bug.
Been waiting for this since I got my iPhone! By: SturmB - Aug 17, 2008 Version: 1.1 Outstanding app! I've been using the desktop version for a little while now and when I heard the iPhone version was coming to the App Store soon, I was overjoyed! The thought pcs listening to my entire music collection (and that of my friends') was VERY appealing!
Mind you, there are a few quirks, most of which have already been mentioned here and will hopefully be addressed in a future release. My biggest complaint, however, is that the program does not alphabetize things properly, the way iTunes does. For example, every song that begins with an "a" or "an" are under "A.". Similarly, songs beginning with "The" are--you guessed it--filed under "T."
Having said that, I still believe this app is WELL worth the download even if they charged $10 for it!
Thanks for reading.
Works well, fantastically useful By: MrPenpenGendo - 23-Sep-2008 Version: 1.1.1 Sure, it doesn't have the video support features of Orb, but using this one won't void your warranty. :) While this app obviously streams everything via the internet when you're away from your local wifi network, when you are at home it only requires the internet for signing-in on startup; after that it's a local data transfer. I haven't examined the network traffic but I can tell you that you can login on your pc and iphone, turn off your modem and it'll be perfectly happy playing, browsing and changing songs. However if you start up the PC app without internet available they won't be able to find each other. Slight buffering lag, still limited to files formats supported by iTunes, no video, requires internet for login, -apart from that a fantastic free app!
Mouth dropping amazing! By: tadaaaaaa! - Sep 15, 2008 Version: 1.1.1 It's amazing how many crap apps there are free or not and then this one is quietly hidden. I installed this at work (with a tough firewall) because my computer is always on. The app still managed to stream all of my music to my iphone. The sound is great as far as I'm concerned. I would only drop the buffer when my phone changed from 3G to Edge which it does a lot around Seattle. Using WIFI was flawless. It's odd that this is a free app when the weather app goes for $14.99 o_0
A few updates away from greatness By: Hsnyc - Mar 11, 2009 Version: 1.2.2 First off, great app. All the good things you'va read about it are true! I have been using it for a while now and it rocks...very happy happy with it. Now, to do my part, here are a few suggestions that would make this a better experience.
> Make the PC program run as a service on the machine (I hate having to log in everytime I reboot my server)
> Have a way to either Tag or bookmark the songs you are listening to, like as a favorite. This helps when you have a large libary and play it in Ramdom for instance, there is no way to go back and find out the songs that you played.
> Have a rating system, so that you can rate the songs you like best.
> Have a search function.
And that's all I have ..
Thank you for the great app.

Opens a huge can of worms! By: Emilio Estevez - 19-Aug-2008 Version: 1.1 There's something pretty sweet about riding around on my bike and having full access to my entire iTunes library which is sitting in a dingy office many kilometres away. The lyrics view is just icing on the cake, now I can sing along without making up the words as I go anymore. This application works a treat! I will now force my friends (the ones with good taste only) to install this application to their computer and add me as a friend so I can listen to their music whenever I feel like something different. Best app yet! If you like listening to music with your iPhone, this is a must have. I better just keep a close eye on my internet usage now, so I don't get stung!!
THE perfect iPhone APP By: Boiler_Up - Aug 16, 2008 Version: 1.1 This APP alone is reason enough to get an iPhone. This APP works best over Wi-Fi, I have had issues over edge. Its great for parties when someone is looking for a specific song that you may not have locally. I had issues with my playlists not intially loading, but after a few resets they appeared. I also have had issues with the lyrics loading past the first screen. Hoepfully both of these issues will be worked out in future releases.
"Simply" the BEST iPhone App TO DATE. By: bigfloydfan - Aug 16, 2008 Version: 1.1 This is a FANTASTIC app. I have 5000 songs and obviously cannot fit all of them on my iPhone. Not that I would need them all at once, but if there was something in my collection I didn't sync, NOW I can access the majority of my collection. Plus I get a bio of the artist and lyrics. True, there are some bugs (volume control for one) but this is version 1.0 - it'll get fixed, people! What an great find and for now it's FREE.
In a word... Wow! By: rphares - Aug 14, 2008 Version: 1.1 I can't believe how easy this was to set up and use. I'm blown away at the functionality of this app. I can easily see, as it's intigrated into my every day life, becoming more used than the iPod icon. Being able to FINALLY get full use of my music library during my daily commute is invaluable. Five stars is a definite for this one. I just tested it on the Edge network - a few seconds to buffer and it was playing music. The only minor complaint is I have is that the music seems to be a much lower quality than the original audio file.
This App just made my iPhone the best music player ever. By: PeoplePhobic - Sep 13, 2008 Version: 1.1.1 Wow! Now my tiny little iPhone can access all the songs on my 'puter! I work in a place with WiFi and they let me play my music. I had been trying to fill all my 8gig 1st gen iphone with music so I could listen to all my favorite songs. Unfortunatly I have like 40 gigs of my favorite songs. It would always irritate me when I wanted to listen to a song that i always used to have in my pocket on my 80 gig ipod and I would find it missing from my iphone because its capacity was so limited that I would have to have to pick and choose and hope that its on there. No more! Now I just have my driving playlist (GSM buzz in my car is SO bad... I need sheilded speakers or something) and I can put.... video! on it. Yes I have room for movies now! I don't have to worry about what to sync because its all there. No more rushing on tuesday mornings to download new music. I can just buy what I want and walk out the door while it downloads and it will be accessable from my phone when I get to work. There are a lot of apps that I really love but this one has brought the most to my phone. Oh yeah and it downloads lyrics automatically from lyricswiki.
No longer Anxious about 8 GB iPhone! By: erhosion - Aug 16, 2008 Version: 1.1 The people writing negative reviews are either naive, spoiled, or impatient to not recognize the awesomeness of this app (For being free or even 4 $, seriously come on people). I'm simply blown away that I can now access my full library of 7,000 songs on my phone wherever I want. When I decided to buy an 8GB instead of the 16, I almost instantly regretted my decision, which I had made in hopes that something like this would come along as well as great apps like pandora and AOL radio, so I could somehow still have a good music selection. I figured if I couldn't hold all 30 gigs of music on my device, there was no point in only having half for the extra hundred bucks. Well, no more anxiety, because now I really only have one random playlist on my actual iPod in the phone and about 7 or 8 necessary albums, leaving 5 1/2 gigs for movies or whatnot, because I have Simplify Media. While the interface may not be as intuitive as the iPod, the added features of automatic Band info and Lyrics is definitely a nice added bonus! Addressing complaints: -Give your computer time to scan all the files, geez, and be patient. I DLed this app at night before I went to bed and checked all my music folders (not just iTunes), and when I woke up, I had access to all my songs. It may take awhile, so why not just relax and play with some other apps or go to sleep. -the sound button is not broken, it just balances between the volume rocker and the on-screen adjuster. If you turn it up all the way on the side of the phone, you won't hear a difference when you adjust on-screen, and vice-versa. -No rewind/FF: maybe a "flaw," but why not just enjoy the full song instead of having iPod ADD? or play the song over again... -Bad quality/functionality: turn off wi-Fi if you're not statically in a hotspot. I've been driving all around the cities using this app and it works fine on 3G/Edge, although you do have to restart every once in awhile if it switches (is this really THAT big of a deal?) By turning off WiFi, it reduces the amount you will need to restart... Get over yourselves (negative) people, and realize that this is a beautiful piece of programming that thwarts the storage problem of the iPhone for dedicated music lovers, and also waves a steady hand at Apple for having the one-up on them and releasing this ability so quickly. Well Done Simplify Media!!
The MUST HAVE App for your iPhone/Touch By: Cranie - Aug 14, 2008 Version: 1.1 I have been a Simplify Media user and beta tester for about a year now and I have to tell you all that this app is one you have to have. It will basically allow you to never have to load up your phone's drive with music..you can access your entire iTunes library (and anyone else's who's added you to their list) from practically anywhere. Which in turn will allow you to have room for MORE apps on your phone! Your portable music collection will no longer be limited by your iPhone drive size. The streaming quality is great and it also lists the album art, lyrics and band bio's. And I've been told VIDEO is in the works. They should be charging 20.00 for this app but they chose to go free for the first 100,000 downloads so get it NOW!
Impressed By: sandiego1989 - Feb 25, 2009 Version: 1.2.1 I love both this app and the comp version. My iPod is pretty much only used for the videos, podcasts, etc. The app has some flaws similar to Pandora...but nothing to trip about. You can have several comp's to listen to all at one time. Definitely worth the money...besides I've spent more on fast food.
All of you complaining that it should be able to play in the background are ignorant. No third party application for the iPhone is able to work like that because of how much of the battery they use up, the creators are just straight up denied the ability. Only the original apps are capable of this.
But overall I'd say if you own Pandora, you should check this out. It would be quicker w/ the 3g, but E works fine.
Great app!! By: XxandrewxX - Aug 16, 2008 Version: 1.1 I was extremely skeptical of this app when downloading it but am now a believer. I am streaming 13,000+ songs to my phone nearly instantly over EDGE. Though I love this app there are still some things I would love to see improved in the future versions. First and foremost is the inability to multitask with this app. Second would be the ability to stream protected AAC, which may never happen. Other than that a few tweaks and this app is flawless.
P.S. As others have stated give the app on your computer a while before using it. It took mine over an hour to build my 13,000 song library.
Wonderful!!! By: Jimtowner - Aug 16, 2008 Version: 1.1 The install was easy. In no time I was listening to my music in bed on my iM600. Wow. Went to sleep listening to Vivaldi. I haven't been loading my classical music on my Touch due to space constraints. Now that's not a problem. At first I noticed that a lot of my music wasn't listed. But when I woke up it was all there--all 4,865 songs. As others have said, the app takes a while to index the music on the PC side. So what--I can only listen to a song at a time and since my library has all my favorites I have no problem finding something to play while the app is doing it's thing. This app along with Pandora, Last.fm, and Tuner have opened up a world of music and sound I never dreamed possible on the Touch.
