Best Internet radio  rating of Slacker Radio
By: monkeychomper - May 5, 2009
Version: 1.0.1
It would be nice if you were able to make this app run in the background like music. So when you double click home a small slacker music box will pop up. So then I can listen to music while I'm on aim and myspace and when I'm just playing a game. I have a G1 and it has Imeem which is exactly like this but it runs in the background so you can do other things on the phone. I would love if you could do that for this. Thanks.

All reason for satellite radio is gone  rating of Slacker Radio
By: Ex-XM - Jan 23, 2009

Between this and the multitude of apps available on the iPhone for Internet Radio, there is no reason to pay $13 a month for watered down FM without commercials. If you dislike ads, and the low skip limit on the free service you can subscribe to slacker plus ($3.99 a month, or $47 a year) to get rid of all that. As well as unlimited requests. The killer app here is to make your own custom stations with artists and bands you want to hear, whereas you would have to pull teeth to get a song played on XM or Sirius, you can easily request songs, ban songs you don't like and favor songs you do. The web app also lets you ban artists as well as songs, something Slacker's own G2 portable does not allow. It is the killer app for the iPhone, and it should make SiriusXM very worried.

Very impressive radio app  rating of Slacker Radio

The programmed genre stations was enough to convince me to switch from pandora. You can still create stations by song or artist but you also have the option to listen to programmed stations such as todays top hits or popular songs of the 90s, for example. This makes it great for listening at work. The app itself has no ads but there audio ads. For a great free radio service, I have no problem with that.

Got the full version!  rating of Slacker Radio

Still the best radio out there. It replaced my pandora, and just today I got someone to switch to Slacker. Today, after most of the year listening to the free version I went ahead and bought the full version of Slacker. Four bucks a month, roughly 48 dollars a year. With that you're able to skip as many songs a you please and it's add free. Nevertheless, Slacker free or not is still worth it =^^=

Better Than Pandora!!  rating of Slacker Radio
By: Anjunabeats20 - Jan 23, 2009

I have to say this app is the best radio app I've seen yet! They're Trance station is awesome! They're up to date with most artists. The sound quality is very good also! I also like how I can swipe between songs :) 5 stars definitely! One thing that would be awesome for an update would be where u can listen to the station while ur exited out of the app like the iPod :) then it would be a six star!! Haha

Much better than Pandora!  rating of Slacker Radio
By: Conrad1 - Aug 24, 2009
Version: 1.2
Much more variety available to create stations. Music mix is very consistent. Pandora has too much of "where the hell did that song come from?" Pandora also seems to lock into one era for 6 or 7 songs then transitions to another era instead of just having a nice blend. Say you want a station of classic rock. Pandora plays several songs from the 70's then several from the 80's rather than mixing them. Slacker does have more ads. But it's a free service. Spend 4 bucks a month and you can play ad free.

My new favorite radio app  rating of Slacker Radio
By: homerZ - Jan 22, 2009
Version: 1.0.1
Much better audio quality than Pandora, especially over 3G/Edge. Better connection stability than Flycast. Very slick user interface - this is the most polished radio app yet. This is the best radio app for a car stereo as well, since it loads very quickly and stays connected, even through Edge/3G changeovers. Pandora is cool, but the poor audio quality over cellular prevents it from cpmpeting with my Sirius radio. Slacker radio is a whole different story- the quality is as good as my Sirius, plus it doesn't cut out when I drive under bridges and such. Seriously, this is the most polished radio app yet.

Great  rating of Slacker Radio
By: Don't Be cheap - Jan 20, 2009

First of all.... Yes you only get 6 skips per station per hour if you have the free version... But that's because it's free. How would they make any money? They wouldn't! Great app! Worth upgrading to 4$ a month also. Which gives you unlimited skips and other things. One thing I don't like about it is you can't check your texts or anything without stopping the music. But other than that its great!!

Best App Available by Far  rating of Slacker Radio
By: CEK777 - Jan 20, 2009
Version: 1.0
Just downloaded this app and it's amazing. It recreates the Slacker online experience perfectly while driving or walking down the street. The interactive album art is a very cool touch and so is all the artist information and album reviews. You can create stations on the fly, search for artists, songs and then have all the changes automatically copied to your online account. I have a premium account which makes the service even better (for $7.95/ month I now have unlimited access to what seems like an unlimited database of music...I even have a Wesley Willis station). If you have an iPhone and you don't have this app there might be something wrong with you.

Made Me Love Music Again!  rating of Slacker Radio
By: Jonathan Bloom - Jul 12, 2009
Version: 1.2
I downloaded this application and gave it a whirl. Within a few hours my musicabulary (sorry was trying to be clever) increased to artists I had heard before and artists I had never heard before. I love being able to turn on this application and not worry about how much I'm spending on music. I've calculated that if I were to buy all of the songs Slacker played (with complete rights from the labels) it would have cost me over $150 in my first two days! If I don't like I song, I can ban the artist or song on that station. The sheer volume of music is insane! Plus, if you can't find an artist/song you can request it and they'll add them when they can get the rights. I tried the other radio applications, but Slacker just seems to fit for me. The application seems to work great on 3G (haven't tested out Edge) and the music sounds like CD quality. This is one application you need to try and I do not think you will be disappointed! (Disclaimer: I loved Slacker so much that I purchased the $4.99 Plus package. It's free, but Plus removes ads and the skip limitations)

Great Internet Radio!!!  rating of Slacker Radio
By: Ilovemusic!!!! - Apr 14, 2009
Version: 1.0.1
This is by far the best radio app out there that I have found. Blows both pandora and last.fm out of the water. Love how they have actual genres of music to listen too instead of just searching your favorite artists. Love slacker radio. Would be aesome if you could run other apps while using but that has nothing to do with the people who put this app out I would imagine? The indie electronic station is surprisingly good!!!

In response to Meshebe  rating of Slacker Radio

You obviously didn't take the time to go over the application, because you are way off. Slacker DOES allow personalized radio stations based off band, track or genre under the Find Music Tab which lets you save those stations in your favorites. Now Slacker won't let you mix the stations like you can in Pandora, but I find using both applications gives me the best mix for when my onboard library gets old. Slacker gives you the XM radio experience with an option to skip tracks (albeit limited in the free version) in addition to finding and playing individual tracks (something you can't do in Pandora). I don't see any harm in them charging a small fee for the extra options if you really enjoy their application, because what you get for free is amazing. I think some people are just way too jaded these days to realize a great deal when they see it.

Slacker vs. SiriusXm, Pandora, Last.FM  rating of Slacker Radio
By: KJED82 - Jan 19, 2009
Version: 1.0.1
Slacker vs. SiriusXm:
I have been a SiriusXm subscriber for the past year and am canceling my subscription because not only does slacker replicate the Satellite radio experience, it improves upon it. The programmed stations are tremendous both in content and number (as good or better than SiriusXm programming), you can fast forward through tracks you don't like, and there are no DJs. If you have an iphone and an aux input cable, get slacker and save yourself $14 a month.
Slacker vs. Pandora/Last.FM
If you're into creating your own stations Pandora or Last.FM might be a better option for you, though slacker is no slouch in this arena. However, if you want professionally programed stations Slacker is THE way to go. The audio quality is tremendous, better than either service. The UI is better than both, and as a young program will presumably get even better.
Pros:
- Great selection of well programmed stations.
- Beautiful, feature rich UI.
- Great audio quality.
- Ability to "fine tune" stations with options like music currency and popularity.
Cons:
- Not as good at creating user stations.
Conclusion:
If Slacker catches on, it will put Satellite radio out of business. If you're looking for a traditional radio experience without the DJs and without the constant commercials, Slacker is for you (yes there are occasional commercials, but they are short and non-obtrusive). I would like to see controls for creating your own stations added to the app, something that will presumably come with time. If Apple were to let Slacker (or the other music streaming apps for that matter) run in the background, that would turn it into not only one of the best apps, but the elusive "Killer App". In this case what it would kill is Satellite/FM radio as we know it. Highly recommend, if you love music you'll love Slacker.

Better than pandora, sound quality better too.  rating of Slacker Radio
By: GinoDotCom - Jul 8, 2009

Edit: when are we getting a bookmark to mark songs that well want to later purchase or download?? It's so overdue. Download it and you'll immediately see Why this app is better than Pandora ;) When creating a station with a particular song, Slacker will play that song right away!! Think about it. A million songs. You'll never find yourself at a party again without have the ability to play a particular song someone is requesting

Better than the rest  rating of Slacker Radio
By: bboy178 - Aug 7, 2009

I've kept an open mind about radio/ music apps, and after giving each one a shot I've definately found Slacker to be the best. The apps I tried before Slacker (Pandora, iHeart Radio, iMeem, Yahoo) were each ok and all did something slightly different. Slacker has in my opinion has pulled it all together nicely. It is what I've been looking for in a radio app. Very customizable, great music variety, and solid search tools.

'bout time!  rating of Slacker Radio

It seems like I've been waiting forever for this app. So glad it's finally here! And it's as well done as I'd hoped. I've played with it for a bit tonight and see just a couple things that would be great to have in an update: 1. The ability to chose whether the iPhone goes dark or not while the app. is running. Chosing a song as a favorite, banning a song, or just viewing the album cover or artist information enhances the app and having to push the button and slide the bar just to get at the app is cumbersom (but needs to only be an option as there are times when it would be better to go dark). (yea! This was added in an update today! Thanks! That's one down.) 2. As others have already stated, the ability to cache songs would be great. 3. I don't see how to set up and customize (add artists, songs, etc.) a new station from the iPhone. I may be missing something but if not that option would really be nice to have. 4. The ability to access a list of recently played songs, similar to the desktop/web versions would come in handy. The Slacker web site is wonderful and I am so happy to finally have the same great music service on my phone! I've used a lot of apps but this is the only one I've ever been excited enough about to write a review for. Thank you, thank you, thank you! (do I sound excited?!)

excellent and better than pandora  rating of Slacker Radio
By: slpslp - Jul 4, 2009

larger collection of music---I can go for days without hearing a repeat. the ads are just for Slacker and I didn't find them to be annoying, though I did upgrade to help support development and get unlimited skips. I love the "ban track" feature and the large number of excellent, pre-programmed stations for those of us who are too lazy to fully create our own---and you can tweak the pre-programmed stations to hear more of what you want as well. Buffer use seems to be better than Pandora as well; I can drive around for miles without too many instances of a song cutting out. Highly recommend!

Best by Far  rating of Slacker Radio

I love being able to really customize my own created station. You simply cannot get the level of customization with Pandora. The sound quality us great rather you listen via Edge, 3G or Wifi. I love this app and recommend it highly! Create some custom stations and this will allow you to experience the best radio app available. I also recommend the $3.99 per month sub for a totally commercial free service.

Best music app available!  rating of Slacker Radio
By: Jmeister87 - Aug 7, 2009
Version: 1.2
In response to Tally's review that criticized the inability to play music in the background (and, for that matter, upload stations so you don't need reception to play them), which Slacker's Blackberry app will allow: this is not Slacker's oversight. Apple will not allow anything but their iPod software to run in the background, nor will it allow any app to access the hard drive. I'm sure that these features will become available as soon as Apple will allow apps these privledges. In the meantime Slacker is the best music app out and when Apple will allow these capabilities it will be absolutely amazing.

Very Nice Application -  rating of Slacker Radio
By: MikeMpls - Jan 17, 2009

Of all the radio app's I've been using I like this one the best. The design and user interface of Slacker is the best in my opinion compared to AOL, Iheartreadio, Radiolicious, and Shoutcast.
In addition, if you like Dance music, I think they have the best mix of Dance music compared to the others. I didn't know about Slacker until the iphone app came out - I liked it so much
I subscribed to the Slacker Plus service to be able to not hear DJ's, commercials and have unlimted skip ability - Great job on the app!
