Perfect Radio Application!

I saw a lot of review, with very bad comments, with all that I bought the application and I tell you what...Who left a bad comment they don't know how to use this awesome software!!!
If you can't find your favorite radio in the list, you can ADD and bookmark it. For instance I took a random radio station from Hungary, I looked on their webpage to see if they have online streaming and all i had to do just to type in the link to that streaming file which was .pls. You can add as many radio stations as you want! Great application once again, well done!
As for future, if they can add more visualisation types it would be absolutly great! Well worth the money!

Problems

I have had this app for ages and use it alot. I upgraded to 2.0.1. App still worked. Well until one of my other apps crashed. Then no apps worked. I restored, all worked fine. Different app crashed. Then couldn't get into any apps again. Even if I turned off or hard reset. 6 times this happened all within two days. I went back to the 2.0 firmware. At least if an app crashes now. I can turn the phone off and back on to get it working again. I think 2.0.1 was rushed. I'd rather put up with the keyboard glitches etc until they sort the problem out. At least that way I can use the apps I paid for. Anyway. This is a fantastic application. :)

Great way to listen to web radio

First off, ignore those whinging that there are no BBC stations etc. When the BBC start streaming their stations in MP3 or AAC format then Tuner will work with them, but as they're currently in WMA or Flash format the iPhone won't play them. Blame the BBC, not this excellent app.
That aside, there are still many great stations worth listening too here, and almost all are pure music with no mind numbing DJ between the tracks or adverts. Plus they're sorted by genre so everything is easy to find. Many stations also have multiple streams at different quality levels, so if you're in one of O2-UKs many, many, many areas without 3G you can drop down to a low quality stream.
The only downside with this is simply the battery drain. Again this is not the fault of this app, it's just the impact of maintaining a data stream across the cellular network. Best plug the iPhone into a charger if you intend to listen to this for a prolonged period.

So I am one of those tote bag tugging NPR elites you are always hearing about....
Spent the better part of the evening search for an app that streams more than preloaded stations like AOL etc. This worked like a charm. Also has A LOT of preloaded stations and genres, also good to have. Neat interface. Prone to crashing when setting up bookmarks but not during streaming.
Definitely worth a fiver.

This along with Pandora are killer apps. for the iPhone. Now I can get my SomaFM fix anywhere I have WiFi, 3G, or even Edge access! Useful search feature helps you locate the streams you want by name or description. Broken into genres so you can browse stations of interest. Displays bitrates of each stream -- keep in mind many channels broadcast in multiple bitrates, so choose whichever is most appropriate (typically 128kbps).

I have been using this app most days for over a year without any major problems. Simple to use interface. It plays all of the file types that they claim to play. The sound quality depends on the quality of the stream. Some streams have moved and they are not updated. You can easily enter your own streams and save them in your bookmarks. It's great if you like to listen to your own special stations.

for anyone who enjoy's aac streams, this is an excellent app. Works on edge like a champ. For those who complain that the sound is not good, first you need to know what bit rate the stream you are trying to access is streaming on. For the 24 kbps bit rate I am listening to in shoutcast, the sound is just as good as I would expect it. The sample SKY.FM that comes in the bookmarks sounds excellent.

I tried all the radio apps for iPhone / iPod Touch. This one has the complete Shoutcast library with all bitrates. Has a bookmark function. Yes, it does have a Search function also. Wonderful user interface. Genres. Top 500. Has a volume adjustment also, although it is sluggish. This review is based on Wi-Fi performance. I don't know about other types of transmission.
Much better than allRadio app. I shouldn't have bought that one: missing volume adjustment, no search, can't delete bookmarks, crashed and reset several times, has many, many gaps in Shoutcast library. Maybe in time allRadio will improve as it has a nice interface. But on a whole Tuner is the clear winner with a better interface that is easier to use, has more features, is more stable, and just pretty. I wish I could show a screenshot of Tuner's Now Playing screen: gorgeous.
This is the best app for Internet radio on the iPhone / iPod Touch. Hope they can fix the sluggish volume setting. 5 stars.

4/20/09Still one of the first & best radio apps in market. 1/3/09Still #1 radio app available. People that gave this APP less than 4 star had a bad day! This is insane. I've tried: Pandora, VisuaRadio (Don get it cuz you'll be disappointed), Last.fm & AOL Radio for weeks. Tuner is the best radio APP ever. Why? 1- Excellent quality 2- It comes with a cool visualizer 3- You can add your own stream 4- Doesn't get cuaght off like other Radio's 5- You can bookmark your favorite stations 6- Track/artist information while you're listening 7- It has more than 500 stations already Try Vocal Trance (One of the best Trance radio stations), XTC.RADIO.LONDEN, 1.FM-Trance if you like electronic music Try Jelly Radio, RDL 101.1, and 181.FM if you are a Hip Hop fan. Recommended!

I think it’s pretty good to have, like they said the sound is low but hey there are some international channels that I haven't even heard of, and guess what they work I already put it on my car, it works great now I have radios that I can’t get only online haha so I think it’s a great apps. I think it’s great for people who like international music not even iTunes radio provides it. I like to listen to my Turkish Arabic and Persian music on the go. Nice job!!

Tuner is excellent. It allows you to search through all of the many net radio stations available and bookmark the good ones. These are the same radio stations available in iTunes and now you can have them anywhere you have a net connection. If you have an iPhone 3G it even works well in the car. Also the sound quality is great! Just buy this app, it will add so much more musical functionality to your iphone or ipod touch!

I like to listen to streaming radio in the car and this does the trick. It does expose some weak links in the 3G network. I notice that even at ground zero for Apple (i.e Cupertino and San Jose) there are 3G dead spots. Come on AT&T get this network finished. (I commute regularly between San Francisco, Oakland & San Jose and there are dead spots everywhere.) The radio however works great everwhere 3G is solid.

Can the UK Radio1/2 moaners please read the description for this app. It can stream MP3 and AAC. BBC streams are Windows media or Realmedia - you should of known they would not play, it is quite clear. Nullriver simply cannot 'add' these stations, BBC don't broadcast them for use like this! Nullriver provide a player and a player only, streams and sources are not their concern. The app does everything it claims and more, I highly recommend it. I can listen to 192kbps streams whilst driving in the UK on O2.

This just works! It streams all my favourite mp3 stations in high quality. 192kbps streams are fine via wifi and it works in screensaver/off mode too.
Top 500 list included which is easily scrollable and the ability to search the list of streams. Clean, clear and easy to use. You can add you own streams along with bookmark creations.
One downside is that is has to be the active application, if you let it 'minimise' then it stops. Used on a 3g iPhone.

Not just for commercial streaming audio

Certainly, as with every app, there are some tweaks that will make future versions perform better than this.
What impresses me with this app is that it can play any feed (assuming a supported format) unlike some other apps which only play pre-established streams, you can setup bookmarks for any steam to which you listen. For me, this is the Fire and EMS streaming radio feed (scan60.com) so I am never out of range to respond. It's also nice when I am traveling to hear the goings-on back home.
I would like to see improved stability in maintaining the stream (maybe an auto-restart), continued play when using other features or apps, and the ability to see and edit bookmark details. Some documentation or information would be helpful as well. I only found out by accident that touching the screen twice will rotate through a range of colors on the "equalizer".
Great app -- well worth the small charge.

Worth the money

Tried aol radio and while it's free, it has a VERY limited selection of stations. Also, aol radio has no NPR station and tuner does. This is major selling point for me! Lots of good stations. I think it's plenty loud, especially with headphones. It doesn't skip at all on my wifi network, and I listen to it while driving around the city with no problems! This is by far my favorite and most used iPhone app.

Different Bit Rates

After playing with this some more I can confirm that the stations have different bit rates. What is nice is that the bit rate is listed right next to the channel while you are browsing so you know what to expect.
Quite a few of the channels on here are also listed on Shoutcast so most of these are pre existing Internet radio streams.
So far this is exactly what I was hoping for.

This seems fantastic so far - works well over edge (at least for 56 & 48k streams i tried) At last I've got 50 & 60s Jazz radio in my living room (just pop the iPhone in the dock - connected to hifi)
let alone KJAZ when out and about
Very polished app - wondering about battery issues but will just use the car charger more when out
You just have to get this app to believe what's possible - and just 100k or so!

BEST RADIO APP

This is by far the best radio app Ive used. I'm a really big NPR listener. The other ones either lack live radio, using old podcasts or lack NPR all together. The best thing about this is that you can add live radio streams from any stations that provide a .pls link. I can listen to my local Philadelphia NPR station anytime anywhere now. :). This is the most used app on my iPhone!! Worth every penny I spent on it.

Whether you are using this for just the selection of stations provided or adding your own, I really enjoy using it. Whether it is stereo music, listening to Airports like JFK Tower in NY, NOAA weather streamed audio, NPR, Shoutcast, public service radio streamed on the Internet, this program is only limited by your own imagination. Don't listen to those who think the current list of music is too limited. Get out and find what you want and add it to your own bookmarks with this program. Thank goodness the effort was put in to make this a winning combination of ease of use and quality audio. Great.sounding all the way. Keep up the good work NullRiver!!!! I, for one, appreciate the effort. IMPORTANT UPDATE: After my iPhone required a restore more than once AND after verifying a good sync it was determined that the bookmarks on this application do not get restored. This means you will have to type in the URL's each time you do a restore. What a headache. Reducing my rating to 3 stars as a result from 5. Hopefullly, this will get corrected. Thanks in advance.

Tuner is a spectacular application that does exactly what it says and opens the door for a whole litany of new discoveries. I know internet radio is nothing new, but having this on a "everywhere-you-go-I-go-with-you" device really makes it happen. I do love the fact that I can listen to all sorts of radio streams that it suggests, but the reason I purchased it was the ability to link to whatever shoutcast streams I want.
It's one of the stellar additions to the App Store and worth every penny. Whether on WiFi, 3G, or EDGE, I've had nothing but tremendous success with this product and now internet radio is more accessible, for me, than either my XM or terrestrial FM! Love it!
